  • How do I set or remove a Windows SMB password?

    - by David Is Not Here
I recently purchased a computer with the intention of using it as network-attached storage. It presently has no Windows password and only one account. Can I create two different shares (share two different folders) in different ways -- make one publicly accessible, and make another only visible to people with a certain username/password combination? Creating multiple users isn't a problem, I just can't figure out where to start within Windows.

  • How can you avoid being asked to enter your BitBucket password when you push to BitBucket wiki?

    - by CalumJEadie
I'm not sure if everyone experiences this - when I edit a BitBucket wiki locally (through a git repository) I have to enter my BitBucket password for every pull and push. Is there any way around this? I have ssh correctly configured to use a key that is unlocked by gnome-keyring. Pushing to the code repository for my project in BitBucket works fine - I do not need to enter either by BitBucket or ssh key password.

  • How do I get SQL Profiler to show statements with column names like 'password'?

    - by Kev
I'm profiling a database just now and need to see the UPDATE and INSERT statements being executed on a particular table. However, because the table has a 'Password' column the SQL Profiler is being understandingly cautious and replacing the TextData column with: -- 'password' was found in the text of this event. -- The text has been replaced with this comment for security reasons. How do I prevent it doing this because I need to see the SQL statement being executed?

  • Is Flash a secure content delivery technology for password protected digital content?

    - by Merkel Fastia
We are working on a project that would be a competitor to Yudu for online publishing and what we are debating is whether to use Flash for content security protection as Yudu does. See for example "The Testicle Cookbok" for which a limited (3-frame) preview is available before a password is requested by the Flash application running in the browser. Do you see any problems with this approach or could you recommend an alternative technology for password proected digital content?

  • Password-protect a directory, but not that directory's files? [Apache]

    - by Onion
Hi, I was just wondering if it was possible to protect a directory with a username/password combination using .htaccess and .htpasswd files, but not protect the files within. i.e. One is able to link, say, images within that directory to friends, but browsing the directory itself would not be allowed without a username/password. Thanks to all in advance.

  • Share Folders & Files Between Vista and XP Machines

    - by Mysticgeek
Since Microsoft has three operating systems in use, chances are you’ll find yourself needing to share files between XP, Vista, Windows 7, or some combination of the three. Here we take a look at sharing between a Vista and XP on your home network. Share Without Password Protected Sharing If you’re not worried about who’s accessing the files and folders, the easiest method is to disable Password Protected Sharing. So on the Vista machine open Network and Sharing Center. Under Sharing and Discovery make sure Network Discovery, File Sharing, and, Public Folder Sharing are turned on. Also turn off Password Protected Sharing… Now go into the Vista Public folder, located in C:\Users\Public, and add what you want to share or create a new folder. In this example we created a new folder called XP_Share and added some files to it. On the XP machine go into My Network Places and under Network Tasks click on View Workgroup Computers. Now you’ll see all of the computers on your network which should be part of the same Workgroup. Here we need to double-click on the Vista computer. And there we go…no password to enter so we can access the XP_Share folder or anything else that is located in the Public folder. Share with Password Protected Sharing If you want to keep Password Protected Sharing turned on, then we need to do things a little different. When it’s turned on and you try to access the Vista machine from XP, you’re prompted for a password, and no matter what you think the credentials are, you can’t get access…very annoying. So what we need to do is add the XP Machine as a user. Right-click on Computer from the Start Menu or desktop icon and select Manage from the context menu. The Computer Management screen opens up and you want to expand Local Users and Groups, then the Users folder. Then right-click any open area an select New User. Now create a new user name and password, you can also fill in the other fields if you want. Then make sure to uncheck User must change password at next logon and check the box next to Password never expires. Click the Create button and close out of the New User screen. You’ll then see the new user we created in the list and you can close out of the Computer Management window. Now back on the XP computer when you double-click on the Vista machine, your prompted to log in. Just type in the username and password you just created. Now you’ll have access to the Public folder contents. Set up Sharing on XP If you want to access a shared folder from the Vista computer located on the XP machine, it’s the same process in reverse. On the XP computer in Shared Documents, right-click on the folder you want to share and select Sharing and Security. Then select the radio button next to Share this folder and click Ok. Go into Computer Management and create a new user… Now from the Vista machine double click on the XP machine icon, enter the password, then access the folders and files you need. If you have multiple versions of Windows on your home network, you’ll now be able to access files and folders from each of them. • How does the rsync algorithm correctly identify repeating blocks?

    - by Kai
I'm on a personal quest to learn how the rsync algorithm works. After some reading and thinking, I've come up with a situation where I think the algorithm fails. I'm trying to figure out how this is resolved in an actual implementation. Consider this example, where A is the receiver and B is the sender. A = abcde1234512345fghij B = abcde12345fghij As you can see, the only change is that 12345 has been removed. Now, to make this example interesting, let's choose a block size of 5 bytes (chars). Hashing the values on the sender's side using the weak checksum gives the following values list. abcde|12345|fghij abcde -> 495 12345 -> 255 fghij -> 520 values = [495, 255, 520] Next we check to see if any hash values differ in A. If there's a matching block we can skip to the end of that block for the next check. If there's a non-matching block then we've found a difference. I'll step through this process. Hash the first block. Does this hash exist in the values list? abcde -> 495 (yes, so skip) Hash the second block. Does this hash exist in the values list? 12345 -> 255 (yes, so skip) Hash the third block. Does this hash exist in the values list? 12345 -> 255 (yes, so skip) Hash the fourth block. Does this hash exist in the values list? fghij -> 520 (yes, so skip) No more data, we're done. Since every hash was found in the values list, we conclude that A and B are the same. Which, in my humble opinion, isn't true. It seems to me this will happen whenever there is more than one block that share the same hash. What am I missing?

  • Bacula windows client could not connect to Bacula director

    - by pr0f-r00t
I have a Bacula server on my Linux Debian squeeze host (Bacula version 5.0.2) and a Bacula client on Windows XP SP3. On my network each client can see each other, can share files and can ping. On my local server I could run bconsole and the server responds but when I run bconsole or bat on my windows client the server does not respond. • Working with a large data object between ruby processes

    - by Gdeglin
I have a Ruby hash that reaches approximately 10 megabytes if written to a file using Marshal.dump. After gzip compression it is approximately 500 kilobytes. Iterating through and altering this hash is very fast in ruby (fractions of a millisecond). Even copying it is extremely fast. The problem is that I need to share the data in this hash between Ruby on Rails processes. In order to do this using the Rails cache (file_store or memcached) I need to Marshal.dump the file first, however this incurs a 1000 millisecond delay when serializing the file and a 400 millisecond delay when serializing it. Ideally I would want to be able to save and load this hash from each process in under 100 milliseconds. One idea is to spawn a new Ruby process to hold this hash that provides an API to the other processes to modify or process the data within it, but I want to avoid doing this unless I'm certain that there are no other ways to share this object quickly. Is there a way I can more directly share this hash between processes without needing to serialize or deserialize it? Here is the code I'm using to generate a hash similar to the one I'm working with: @a = [] 0.upto(500) do |r| @a[r] = [] 0.upto(10_000) do |c| if rand(10) == 0 @a[r][c] = 1 # 10% chance of being 1 else @a[r][c] = 0 end end end @c = Marshal.dump(@a) # 1000 milliseconds Marshal.load(@c) # 400 milliseconds Update: Since my original question did not receive many responses, I'm assuming there's no solution as easy as I would have hoped. Presently I'm considering two options: Create a Sinatra application to store this hash with an API to modify/access it. Create a C application to do the same as #1, but a lot faster. The scope of my problem has increased such that the hash may be larger than my original example. So #2 may be necessary. But I have no idea where to start in terms of writing a C application that exposes an appropriate API. A good walkthrough through how best to implement #1 or #2 may receive best answer credit.

  • How to get user input before saving a file in Sublime Text

    - by EddieJessup
I'm making a plugin in Sublime Text that prompts the user for a password to encrypt a file before it's saved. There's a hook in the API that's executed before a save is executed, so my naïve implementation is: class TranscryptEventListener(sublime_plugin.EventListener): def on_pre_save(self, view): # If document is set to encode on save if view.settings().get('ON_SAVE'): self.view = view # Prompt user for password message = "Create a Password:" view.window().show_input_panel(message, "", self.on_done, None, None) def on_done(self, password): self.view.run_command("encode", {password": password}) The problem with this is, by the time the input panel appears for the user to enter their password, the document has already been saved (despite the trigger being 'on_pre_save'). Then once the user hits enter, the document is encrypted fine, but the situation is that there's a saved plaintext file, and a modified buffer filled with the encrypted text. So I need to make Sublime Text wait until the user's input the password before carrying out the save. Is there a way to do this? At the moment I'm just manually re-saving once the encryption has been done: def on_pre_save(self, view, encode=False): if view.settings().get('ON_SAVE') and not view.settings().get('ENCODED'): self.view = view message = "Create a Password:" view.window().show_input_panel(message, "", self.on_done, None, None) def on_done(self, password): self.view.run_command("encode", {password": password}) self.view.settings().set('ENCODED', True) self.view.run_command('save') self.view.settings().set('ENCODED', False) but this is messy and if the user cancels the encryption then the plaintext file gets saved, which isn't ideal. Any thoughts? Edit: I think I could do it cleanly by overriding the default save command. I hoped to do this by using the on_text_command or on_window_command triggers, but it seems that the save command doesn't trigger either of these (maybe it's an application command? But there's no on_application_command). Is there just no way to override the save function?

  • Login Page using ASP.Net & Ajax

I'm trying to make a login page using html, ajax & ASP.NET.The data is truly passed to the ajax function, but when I debug the asp page the username and password are sent with NULL. The code is supposed to take username & password then returns the userid Html page: <div id="usernameid">Username:</div><input id="username" type="text"/> <span id="username_status"></span> <div id="passwordid">Password:</div><input id="password" type="password"/> <span id="password_status"></span> <div> <input id="loginbutton" onclick="UserLogin()" type="submit" value="Submit" /></div> Javascript: function UserLogin() { var postData = JSON.stringify({ "username": JSON.stringify($("#username").val()), "password": JSON.stringify($("#password").val()) }); alert(postData); $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "http://localhost:49317/LoginPageForLearn.aspx", data: postData, contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", dataType: "jsonp", jsonp: 'jsoncallback', success: callbackfunction, error: function (msg) { alert(msg); } }); } Asp.net page: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { string userName = ""; int userId = -1; string PassWord = ""; if (Request.QueryString.Count != 0 && Request.QueryString["username"] != string.Empty && Request.QueryString["password"] != string.Empty) { userName = Request.QueryString["username"]; PassWord = Request.QueryString["password"]; userId = GetUserID(userName, PassWord); } } Do you have any ideas why isn't the data passed correctly ? Or do you have any other ideas on how can I make a login page using html and access the data at SQL. Thanks a lot.

  • WPF data-bound ComboBox only shows first item of ItemsSource list

    - by Mark
Hi all, I'm sure I'm doing something stupid but for the life of me I can't think of right now. I have a ComboBox that is data-bound to a list of Layout objects. The list is initially empty but things are added over time. When the list is updated by the model the first time, this update reflects properly in the ComboBox. However, subsequent updates never show up in the ComboBox even though I can see that the list itself contains these items. Since the first update works, I know the data-binding is OK - so what am I doing wrong here? Here's the XAML (abridged): <Grid HorizontalAlignment="Stretch"> <ComboBox ItemsSource="{Binding Path=SavedLayouts, diagnostics:PresentationTraceSources.TraceLevel=High}" DisplayMemberPath="Name" SelectedValuePath="Name" SelectedItem="{Binding LoadLayout}" Height="25" Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="0"></ComboBox> </Grid> And the related part of the model: public IList<Layout> SavedLayouts { get { return _layouts; } } public Layout SaveLayout( String data_ ) { Layout theLayout = new Layout( SaveLayoutName ); _layouts.Add( theLayout ); try { return theLayout; } finally { PropertyChangedEventHandler handler = PropertyChanged; if( handler != null ) { handler( this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs( "SavedLayouts" ) ); } } } And finally, the layout class (abridged): public class Layout { public String Name { get; private set; } } In the output window, I can see the update occurring: System.Windows.Data Warning: 91 : BindingExpression (hash=64564967): Got PropertyChanged event from TickerzModel (hash=43624632) System.Windows.Data Warning: 97 : BindingExpression (hash=64564967): GetValue at level 0 from TickerzModel (hash=43624632) using RuntimePropertyInfo(SavedLayouts): List`1 (hash=16951421 Count=11) System.Windows.Data Warning: 76 : BindingExpression (hash=64564967): TransferValue - got raw value List`1 (hash=16951421 Count=11) System.Windows.Data Warning: 85 : BindingExpression (hash=64564967): TransferValue - using final value List`1 (hash=16951421 Count=11) But I get do not get this 11th item in the ComboBox. Any ideas?

  • postfix with mailman

    - by Thufir
What should happen is that [email protected] should be delivered to that users inbox on localhost, user@localhost. Thunderbird works fine at reading user@localhost. I'm just using a small portion of postfix-dovecot with Ubuntu mailman. How can I get postfix to recognize the FQDN and deliver them to a localhost inbox? root@dur:~# root@dur:~# tail /var/log/mail.err;tail /var/log/mailman/subscribe;postconf -n Aug 27 18:59:16 dur dovecot: lda(root): Error: chdir(/root) failed: Permission denied Aug 27 18:59:16 dur dovecot: lda(root): Error: user root: Initialization failed: Initializing mail storage from mail_location setting failed: stat(/root/Maildir) failed: Permission denied (euid=65534(nobody) egid=65534(nogroup) missing +x perm: /root, dir owned by 0:0 mode=0700) Aug 27 18:59:16 dur dovecot: lda(root): Fatal: Invalid user settings. • when should be choose simple php mail and when smpt with loggin+password?

    - by user43353
Hi, My Case: web application that need to send 1,000 messages per day to main gmail account. (Only need to send email, not need receive emails - email client) 1. option - use php mail function + sendmail + config php.ini php example: <?php $to = '[email protected]'; $subject = 'the subject'; $message = 'hello'; $headers = 'From: [email protected]' . "\r\n" . 'Reply-To: [email protected]' . "\r\n" . 'X-Mailer: PHP/' . phpversion(); mail($to, $subject, $message, $headers); ?> php.ini config (ubuntu): sendmail_path = /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i pros:don't need email account, easy to setup cons:? 2. option - use Zend_Mail + transport on smpt+ password auto php example(need include Zend_Mail classes): $config = array('auth' => 'login', 'username' => 'myusername', 'password' => 'password'); $transport = new Zend_Mail_Transport_Smtp('mail.server.com', $config); $mail = new Zend_Mail(); $mail->setBodyText('This is the text of the mail.'); $mail->setFrom('[email protected]', 'Some Sender'); $mail->addTo('[email protected]', 'Some Recipient'); $mail->setSubject('TestSubject'); $mail->send($transport); pros:? cons:? Questions: Can 1 option be filtered by gmail email server as spam? please can you add pros + cons to options above Thanks

  • Are parametrized calls/sanitization/escaping characters necessary for hashed password fields in SQL queries?

    - by Computerish
When writing a login system for a website, it is standard to use some combination of parameterized calls, sanitizing the user input, and/or escaping special characters to prevent SQL injection attacks. Any good login system, however, should also hash (and possibly salt) every password before it goes into an SQL query, so is it still necessary to worry about SQL injection attacks in passwords? Doesn't a hash completely eliminate any possibility of an SQL injection attack on its own?
