I have used norton ghost to backup my hard drive. And it came up with a .v2i file.
Will I be able to use this backup
from my pc to my laptop?
Can I use this backup to restore my dual boot pc back in shape. If the mbr is destroyed/damaged?
Can I use this backup to restore my os and applications on the same machine if the machine's hard drive is reformatted?
My PC(Windows 7) is connected to internet through a proxy server configured in internet options.
I have set up a VPN server in my PC.
But the clients that connect to my VPN server don't have access to internet.
I know that if I set the proxy setting in client they can connect to internet.
But is there a way that my VPN server pass traffic through the proxy server?
What about using another vpn server instead of proxy server?
Suppose i send a mail using the following the following command:
mailx [email protected]
then does mailx first try to find out the SMTP server of my ISP for relaying the mail or does it connect directly. Does it depend on whether my PC has a public IP address or it is behind a NAT.
How do I check the settings of mailx on my PC?
How can I verify this using tcpdump?
I'm on my third power adapter for my HP Pavilion dv4-1435dx in less than one year. I'm not abusing them. I used Mac laptops for 10 years (before needing to switch to a PC) without a problem.
I tried a Targus universal power adapter, but it wouldn't charge my PC, it worked fine on another laptop http://www.targus.com/us/product_details.aspx?sku=APA6911US
Any suggestion for a more durable and reliable power adapter?
My new PC I just finished building has USB 3.0 support as well as eSATA. So this has me wondering, I use a USB stick/thumb drive all the time on my PC for stuff, is there an equivalent available anywhere for USB 3.0 or even eSATA?
When I do an nmap -sV 127.0.0.1 -p 22 of my system I get the following information:
SF-Port22-TCP:V=4.62%I=7%D=11/9%Time=4916402C%P=i686-pc-linux-gnu%r(NULL,2
SF:7,"SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_5.1p1\x20Debian-3ubuntu1\r\n");
How do I go about chaining these two pieces of information? i686-pc-linux-gnu and SSH-2\.0-OpenSSH_5\.1p1\x20Debian-3ubuntu1.
I'm total newbie at tcp/ip and I was experimenting with Wireshark.
What this mean:
1824 578.194204 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy UDP Source port: 17500 Destination port: 17500
In data I can see that my user pc name is sent (happily it's a generic name): does this mean someone is trying to hack my pc ?
The problem:
If i access SharePoint from Windows 7
with IE8 or Chrome5 - I must wait for
like a minute to get a response. If i use other Windows 7 with IE8, just the same - just wait a MINUTE.
If i use Firefox3.6 on W7 machine - page opens up
instantly.
Now switch to IE rendering engine in
Firefox, you will have to wait
just as with IE.
Now i tried IE8 on XP SP3 - page
opens up instantly.
I tried IE8 on Windows Server 2003
SP2 (machine on which SharePoint is hosted) - page opens up
instantly.
IIS6 Logs
I did request almost instantly from all 3 browsers and this is what shows up in IIS logs (first 2 entries for each browser):
Chrome
Ok, IIS saw first Chrome request when i Hit enter in browser, but i had to wait long for things to move on

The question
Similar question has been asked but there is no response and i`m trying to access page without SSL and that happens even on GET requests.
Where do I look? Where would be the problem? Browser? OS? I don't even know what to think about.
Just a note
Just a note about chrome's process isolation: I found it sad that while I was waiting that minute with Chrome, i could not use any other tab (i could switch, but i could not, for example, scroll or use any controls)
My PC currently has 2x1GB RAM sticks, and was considering on buying a 2GB RAM stick so that I could move it to a new PC in the future in case it was needed. Would I get the benefits of dual channel or should I necessarily buy 2x1GB sticks? (which, in a way, restricts me to 4GB of RAM if I don't want to scrap a couple of those later).
we just setup a windows 7 ultimate file server, and all the other computers on the network, found the server expect the windows 8 computer.
computers on the network: vista, win 7 ultimate, mac os, win 8 (problem)
I setup a homegroup on the win 7 server pc, but the windows 8 computer can't find the homegroup, nor can it connect to the server by typing its network ext //server-pc
i've tried to turn on all the windows 8 sharing to discovery ON, on Private and Public and all Networks, and got nothing.
should be noted that the computer is using norton firewall/AV, im not sure if that's a factor
What king of hardware/service do I need to create a voip system in my LAN ( only PC-to-PC call and without internet connection !! ) ?
1) Internet Connection
2) Voip phones
...
.
Help me to compile the above list ;)
I often need to remotely manage PC and Macs for desktop support. I'm after a remote desktop management support tool that I could email (or send a url) that the customer could click on (or run) and I could then remotely manage their PC/Mac
A tool that could work on both operating systems would be great but not mandatory (a separate tool for both/either will suffice)
A tool that has an iPhone App would be fantastic too but this would just be very much a 'wish list'
Looking forward to your suggestion!
I have a soundcard in my new PC at work that does not have the right driver installed, and I'm not sure what the manufacturer is. (it's a generic PC running Windows XP)
Is there a way to figure out what device it is w/o having to open the thing up or pester my IT department?
When I look at it in Device Manager it says IDT High Definition Audio CODEC and when I look around in the Properties dialog boxes there's a Device Instance ID of
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_76C1&SUBSYS_12974001&REV_1001\4&3612FC2B&0&0001
