• ajax send parameter to jsp but failed

  I am trying to send data to my jsp via:"xhr.send(projectCode);" but apparently the parameter is not received when I am trying to realise it with System.out.print it is a null displayed. so the story from the begining. my javascript function send the parameter to the jsp whitch construct an xml file and resend to the first one. this will reconstruct my second dropdownList with the xml code constructed and received. so the problem that the parameter dosent sent at all. What should I do.

• Connecting to Google app email servers in Python to send from an alias

  I'm looking to send many emails via Python and would like to connect to Google's email servers to send it from my company email address (it's for work). I've got working code for sending the email through the old company email ([email protected]) which is our login, but can't figure out how to send it through the alias ([email protected]) we use frequently. Long story short, logging in with my regular Google Apps account won't do and I need to sign in with an alias (nickname) instead. Alternatively, I can sign with the regular account ([email protected]) but send via a different email ([email protected]). Working in python and pretty new to programming, but am a good listener! • How to get flash player to display under content on a PC?

  Long story short, I'm developing a theme template for a blog that enables you to view the posts in blocks. The main part of the post is displayed at first, then the secondary content is displayed over that when you hover over the post block. Everything works fine on a Mac Versions of all major browsers, but start browsing on a PC, and all hell breaks loose when you start trying to display content over Flash Video embeds. The flash element remains visible over the content. It's completely unusable. From a PC, you can view an example of the problem here: http://photorific.tumblr.com I'm almost certain this is a bug in the Flash Plugin for Windows, but I was wondering if anyone else had come across this problem before, and if there were any solutions. This problem has presented itself for a while now and any help would be really, really, really appreciated!

• how to import other schema jars when using the scomp tool

  there is a huge amount of xml schemas for the business, some of them are common types like Money.xsd, Address.xsd, etc, while others are business specific like Customer.xsd, ShippingOrder.xsd, etc. So I decide to compile these schemas into 2 jars, one is commonbeans.jar, the other is businessbeans.jar. I've separated them into different folders. to build the commonbeans.jar is simple, just run "scomp -out commonbeans.jar ....\common*.xsd"; while run "scomp -out businessbeans.jar ....\business*.xsd" is a different story, there are errors say can't find those common types, and run "scomp -out businessbeans.jar ....\business*.xsd ....\business*.xsd" will blindly duplicate all the common types into the businessbeans.jar. so is there any way to link the commonbeans.jar when compile those busimess schemas, maybe something like "scomp -out businessbeans.jar ....\business*.xsd commonbeans.jar". I hope my poor english has expressed my issue!

• PHP: $_POST array to XML file and display results.

  I'm creating a "Madlibs" page where visitors can create funny story things online. The original files are in XML format with the blanks enclosed in XML tags (Such as blablabla <PluralNoun></PluralNoun> blablabla <Verb></Verb> ). The form data is created using XSL and the results are saved using a $_POST array. How do I post the $_POST array between the matching XML tags and then display the result to the page? I'm sure it uses a "foreach" statement, but I'm just not familiar enough with PHP to figure out what functions to use. Any help would be great. Thanks, E

• How to give a timeout to an FTP connection

  The story behind: Old script written in ruby 1.8.6 that opens a connection to a ftp and download a configuration file. For a specific client with a windows ftp server the script just hangs. The log stops writing after it opens the connection to the ftp. It's an old script, it's in ruby and I'm not an expert on it. What I tried: So I tried this implementation of a timeout to check if an ftp connection hangs out with this code Timeout::timeout(5) { ftp = Net::FTP.new(host,pass,host) } The problem is that this isn't working. My guess is that the interpreter stops on opening the connection and the timeout doesn't kill the connection because the interpreter is stuck. Is it possible that that's the problem? Could you tell me if there is maybe an alternative solution or if I'm doing something wrong?

I have quite a bit of experience with RoR, but don't have that many starting from scratch with only a vision experiences and would appreciate the wisdom of others who've been there. I'm looking for an order of events, reasons for the order, and maybe why each part is important. • Page not rewriting in ExpressionEngine

  I recently just launched an ExpressionEngine site and one of the last steps I take is removing index.php from the URL. In the case of this site, the default template group is called "site". Long story short, after removing index.php from the URL, all pages continue to work great with the exception of my contact page, which also lives in the "site" template group. Going to http://example.com/contact/ gives me a 404 while going to http://example.com/site/contact produces the desired result. In past ExpressionEngine site setups (including my own) this has never happened, so does anyone have thoughts on why this might not be working?

  I do not want to create a custom navigation bar. I am pushing a UIViewController and I want to customize how the navigation bar looks for that UIViewController In story board, we just specify the segue and a nav bar show up on the screen. We just drag and drop UIBarItem to the left and right. In XIB, the navigationBar simply doesn't show up. I can add navigation Item but the one I added is ignored. I've heard that there used to be an outlet called navigationItem but it's deprecated for reason I do not know. I can add UINavigationBar, however that would be adding my own custom bar. I want the navBar that's provided by UINavigationController.

• Problem opening Solr *.jsp pages with urllib2.urlopen.

  I'm trying to open a page at http://localhost:8983/solr/admin/stats.jsp but urllib2.urlopen returns a blank string.   What is the worst real-world macros/pre-processor abuse you've ever come across (please no contrived IOCCC answers *haha*)? Please add a short snippet or story if it is really entertaining. The goal is to teach something instead of always telling people "never use macros". p.s.: I've used macros before... but usually I get rid of them eventually when I have a "real" solution (even if the real solution is inlined so it becomes similar to a macro). • Should HTTP POST be discouraged?

  Quoting from the CouchDB documentation: It is recommended that you avoid POST when possible, because proxies and other network intermediaries will occasionally resend POST requests, which can result in duplicate document creation. To my understanding, this should not be happening on the protocol level (a confused user armed with a doubleclick is a completely different story). What is the best course of action, then? Should we really try to avoid POST requests and replace them by PUT? I don't like that as they convey a different meaning. Should we anticipate this and protect the requests by unique IDs where we want to avoid accidental duplication? I don't like that either: it complicates the code and prevents situations where multiple identical posts may be desired.

• Continuous Deployment with an ASP.NET website?

  I have a website in C#/ASP.NET that is currently in development. When we are in production, I would like to do releases frequently over the course of the day, as we fix bugs and add features (like this: http://toni.org/2010/05/19/in-praise-of-continuous-deployment-the-wordpress-com-story/). If you upload a new version of the site or even change a single file, it kicks out the users that are currently logged in and makes them start over any forms and such. Is there a secret to being able to do deployments without interfering with users for .NET sites?

• POST serialized JSON object to a Coldfusion remote method instead of using FORM

  I have javascript object which consists of complex array of structures with nested structures of other javascript objects created dynamicaly on page etc. long story. I can't use form since my vars would be like 2_34_x_y_foo_bar_235423 due to the nature of UI. When I send that stringified object using GET .ajax request to a remote cfc method everything runs ok until JSON becomes 4000+ chars long, and usually it will be longer then that. When I use POST .ajax, I get 302 status and redirection to cfcexplorer. Is there some way I could "attach" object to a form and send my data as form submit, or some way to send JSON object as it is now using ajax call?

• How to enable i18n from within setup_app in websetup.py ? (formatted resend)

  From within the setup_app function (websetup.py) of a pylons i18n application, which is making use of a db, I was trying to initiate multilingual content to be inserted into the db. To do so the idea was something like: #necessary imports here def setup_app(command, conf, vars): .... for lang in langs: set_lang(lang) content=model.Content() content.content=_('content') Session.add(content) Session.commit() Unfortunately it seems that it doesn't work. the set_lang code line is firing an exception as follows: File ".. i18n/translation.py", line 179, in set_lang translator = _get_translator(lang, **kwargs) File ".. i18n/translation.py", line 160, in _get_translator localedir = os.path.join(rootdir, 'i18n') File ".. /posixpath.py", line 67, in join elif path == '' or path.endswith('/'): AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'endswith' Actually I'm even not sure it could be possible launching i18n mechanisms from within this setup_app function without an active request object. Anyone has tried some trick on a similar story ?

  I'm trying to work out a good method to manage code changes on a large project with multiple teams. We use subversion at the moment, but I want more flexibility in building a new release than I seem to be able to get with subversion. Here's roughly I want: for each developer to create easily identifiable patches for the project. Each patch delivers a complete user story (a releasable feature or fix). It might encompass many changes to many files. developers are able to easily apply and remove their own and other patches to facilitate testing release manager selects the patches to be used in the next release into a new branch branch is tested, fixes merged in, and ultimately merged into live teams can then pull these changes back down into their sandboxes. I'm looking at stacked git as a way of achieving this, but what other tools or techniques can deliver this sort of workflow?

• Show facebook status stream of a dedicated person on a website

  Hi all, I've been stomping at this all day :( I want to display a status feed of both twitter and facebook on my website. For twitter, this is not a problem, as my account is public, I can easily get the feed. Facebook however, is a whole different story! I can't seem to find an easy way to just get my last status updates and display it on my website. The code I currently have, needs authentication of the visitor, and I don't want that! This is my current code: $facebook = new Facebook($api_key, $secret); $stream = $facebook->api_client->fql_query("SELECT message,source,time FROM status WHERE uid = $user_id LIMIT 6"); I've seen several possible solutions, including the RSS feed, but as Facebook keeps changing the way their site works, none of the previous methods I've seen (including those from as late as januari) currently work! • Planning a skillset for a fallback career [closed]

  I'm not too certain this is a SO question, but I didn't think it belonged in meta either. Long story short, I am bioinformatics researcher. I like to code, it's my favourite part of the job. I have been thinking for a while that if academia is not kind to me, I might seek a career in software development. My current contract is for three years and I would like to spend some time over the next 3 three years learning and practicing software development as possible. Python seems like a popular language and it what I mostly use to do things for me, but I am also in heavy use of R. So my main question is: Are python and R good things to be learning with a sotfware dev goal in mind, and if so, is there any particular type of programming or software that might be useful to have experience with.   Hello, a few weeks ago a co-worker of mine spent about two hours finding out why this piece of C++/CLI code won't compile with Visual Studio 2008 (I just tested it with Visual Studio 2010... same story). public ref class Test { generic<class T> where T : value class void MyMethod(Nullable<T> nullable) { } }; The compiler says: Error 1 error C3214: 'T' : invalid type argument for generic parameter 'T' of generic 'System::Nullable', does not meet constraint 'System::ValueType ^' C:\Users\Simon\Desktop\Projektdokumentation\GridLayoutPanel\Generics\Generics.cpp 11 1 Generics Adding ValueType will make the code compile. public ref class Test { generic<class T> where T : value class, ValueType void MyMethod(Nullable<T> nullable) { } }; My question is now. Why? What is the difference between value class and ValueType?

I need what logic will be applied for this, like if 1000 people voted for the article, some given rating as 2 or 3 or1 or 5. • Code reviews for larger ASP.NET MVC team using TFS

  I'm trying to find a good code review workflow for my team. Most questions similar to this on SO revolve around using shelved changes for the review, however I'm curious about how this works for people with larger teams. We usually have 2-3 people working a story (UI person, Domain/Repository person, sometimes DB person). I've recommended the shelf idea but we're all concerned about how to manage that with multiple people working the same feature. How could you share a shelf between multiple programmers at that point? We worry it would be clunky and we might easily have unintended consequences moving to this workflow. Of course moving to shelfs for each feature avoids having 10 or so checkins per feature (as developers need to share code) making seeing the diffs at code review time painful. Has anyone else been able to successfully deal with this? Are there any tools out there people have found useful aside from shelfs in TFS (preferably open-source)?

• Qt/C++ event loop exception handling

  I am having an application heavily based on QT and on a lot of third party libs. THese happen to throw some exceptions in several cases. In a native Qt App this causes the application to abort or terminate. Often the main data model is still intact as I am keeping it in pure Qt with no external data. So I am thinking that I could also just recover by telling the user that there has occured an error in this an that process and he should save now or even decide to continue working on the main model. Currently the program jsut silently exits without even telling a story. Please help.

I know I can duplicate my code to make it work but how to dynamically create the services? Thanks!
