• C# Application self-destroy at specific date

  Is there anyway I can use to destroy my deployed application at specific date?. How can I order the application to destroy itself at specific date after installation?. Say I deployed my C# application at PC1 today. After a specific date the application is deleted and removed off PC1 automatically (Installation folder removed). How can I do that?. If this is not possible, at least how can I prevent the user from using it anymore after specific date?.

• Is it possible to temporarily disable Python's string interpolation?

  I have a python logger set up, using python's logging module. I want to store the string I'm using with the logging Formatter object in a configuration file using the ConfigParser module. The format string is stored in a dictionary of settings in a separate file that handles the reading and writing of the config file. The problem I have is that python still tries to format the file and falls over when it reads all the logging-module-specific formatting flags. { "log_level":logging.debug, "log_name":"C:\\Temp\\logfile.log", "format_string": "%(asctime)s %(levelname)s: %(module)s, line %(lineno)d - %(message)s" } My question is simple: how can I disable the formatting functionality here while keeping it elsewhere. My initial reaction was copious use of the backslash to escape the various percent symbols, but that of course permanently breaks the formatting such that it wont work even when I need it to. Also, general pointers on good settings-file practices would be nice. This is the first time I've done anything significant with ConfigParser (or logging for that matter). Thanks in advance, Dominic

• Using C preprocessor to construct a string literal for scanf?

  I'm attempting to create an sscanf string literal to aid in buffer overrun prevention in C99. The goal is something like: #define MAX_ARG_LEN 16 char arg[MAX_ARG_LEN] = ""; if (sscanf(arg, "%"(MAX_ARG_LEN-1)"X", &input) > 0) The obvious "manual" solution is something like: #define MAX_ARG_LEN 16 #define MAX_ARG_CHARS "15" char arg[MAX_ARG_LEN] = ""; if (sscanf(arg, "%"MAX_ARG_CHARS"X", &input) > 0) However, I would prefer something to automatically generate "%15X" given a buffer size of 16. • What to Return? Error String, Bool with Error String Out, or Void with Exception

  I spend most of my time in C# and am trying to figure out which is the best practice for handling an exception and cleanly return an error message from a called method back to the calling method. For example, here is some ActiveDirectory authentication code. Please imagine this Method as part of a Class (and not just a standalone function.) bool IsUserAuthenticated(string domain, string user, string pass, out errStr) { bool authentic = false; try { // Instantiate Directory Entry object DirectoryEntry entry = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://" + domain, user, pass); // Force connection over network to authenticate object nativeObject = entry.NativeObject; // No exception thrown? We must be good, then. authentic = true; } catch (Exception e) { errStr = e.Message().ToString(); } return authentic; } The advantages of doing it this way are a clear YES or NO that you can embed right in your If-Then-Else statement. The downside is that it also requires the person using the method to supply a string to get the Error back (if any.) I guess I could overload this method with the same parameters minus the "out errStr", but ignoring the error seems like a bad idea since there can be many reasons for such a failure... Alternatively, I could write a method that returns an Error String (instead of using "out errStr") in which a returned empty string means that the user authenticated fine. string AuthenticateUser(string domain, string user, string pass) { string errStr = ""; try { // Instantiate Directory Entry object DirectoryEntry entry = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://" + domain, user, pass); // Force connection over network to authenticate object nativeObject = entry.NativeObject; } catch (Exception e) { errStr = e.Message().ToString(); } return errStr; } But this seems like a "weak" way of doing things. The downside with this way of doing it is that the user has to put this method in a try-catch block. Thoughts? Is there another way of doing this that I'm not thinking of?

  The argument my C# function is getting is a string which is merely a Date or a DateTime. I am suppose to convert this String to DateTime, to carry on furthure calculation. Now I need to test whether the incoming data is a Date, if it is date(examle:"12/31/2009"), then I need to add "00:00:00" (24 hours format) to it, so that it will become "12/31/2009 00:00:00". If string manipulation is one possible way, I want to confirm whether there is some other way where we can automate the testing and conversion within DateTime.TryParseExact() method. • How to choose my own filename format for subscribed podcast files?

  I subscribe to several podcasts where the filenames of the downloaded mp3 files have no particular pattern to them. When I copy the directory of accumulated mp3 files into my mp3 player, the files play in alphabetical order. What I really want is to play the files chronologically by release date. I currently use iTunes on Windows XP to download the files. What I do now is manually rename the files, adding the date in YYYYMMDD format to the start of each filename so that an alphabetical listing of files will correspond to their chronological order when I listen to them later in PocketTunes on my Palm Centro. Is there some way to get the release date into the filename automatically? If so, I could automate or possibly skip the file renaming step. I would switch from iTunes to something else if that would solve my problem. The file creation time on my local disk isn't a reliable indicator because sometimes I download a few days worth of content at one time, and the files don't necessarily get downloaded in chronological order.

  I'm running this query: SELECT TOP 1 [DVD Copy].[Stock No] FROM [DVD Copy] WHERE [DVD Copy].[Catalogue No] =[Forms]![New Rental]![Catalogue No] And [Issue Date] = Null; Which works fine without the null check for Issue Date. I'm trying to select rows without a Date in the Issue Date column. Is Null the wrong kind of value to use for here?

  I'm writing a kind of HTTP proxy, so I need to be able to do 3 things: Parse an HTTP-date given any of the 3 formats specified in RFC 2616, sec 3.3, Convert a file date-time to an HTTP-date string, and Output the date to a string. For reference, theses are examples of the date-times I need to parse. I will output only the first format: Sun, 06 Nov 1994 08:49:37 GMT ; RFC 822, updated by RFC 1123 Sunday, 06-Nov-94 08:49:37 GMT ; RFC 850, obsoleted by RFC 1036 Sun Nov 6 08:49:37 1994 ; ANSI C's asctime() format I'm pretty sure Boost date_time can do all of this, but I'm having some trouble with number 1. Does anyone already have code to do this? Perhaps I'm not using google proficiently, but I can't find an example of how to do this with boost anywhere. Thanks for any help!

I have a string in my XSLT file that I can display like this: <xsl:value-of select="@Description/> and it shows up, rendered in a browser like: <div>My text has html entities within it</div> <div>This includes quotes, like &quot;Hello World&quot; and sometimes whitespaces.&nbsp;</div> What can I do to get this string rendered as html, so that <div></div> results in newlines, &quot; gives me ", and &nbsp gives me a space? I could elaborate on things I've already tried that haven't worked, but I don't know if that's relevant.

• System time wrong after running ntpdate because DST ignored

  When I run ntpdate, my system clock displays the time as an hour behind what it should be. I know that ntpdate does everything in UTC, so I'm guessing there's a timezone setting wrong and it's ignoring Daylight Savings Time, but I can't figure it out. Here's what I've done so far: ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/EST /etc/localtime to set the timezone Set UTC=true in /etc/sysconfig/clock so that DST will be automatically applied date -s hh:mm::ss to set system clock correctly hwclock -systohc --utc to set the hardware clock correctly At this point date and hwclock both display the correct time. But if I then run ntpdate 0.us.pool.ntp.org, the date output is an hour behind what it should be. I've looked at a dozen tutorials and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Does anyone have any ideas?

• Copying single files into a folder that changes name every time the batch file is executed

  Can you please help, I am using this to put the text files made by the batch file into the folder created by the batch file as well. but my problem is that the name is changed of the new folder every time because it is named by the date and time it was created.   i want to normalize date fields from an old badly designed db dump. i now need to update every row, where the datefield only contains the year. update table set date = '01.01.' + date where date like '____' and isnumeric(date) = 1 and date >= 1950 but this will not work, because sql does not do short circuit evaluation of boolean expressions. thus i get an error "error converting nvarchar '01.07.1989' to int" is there a way to work around this? the column also contains strings with a length of 4, which are not numbers (????, 5/96, 70/8, etc.) the table only has 60000 rows

  In need to find the age in days - months - years in OpenOffice. There is DATEDIF() in Microsoft Excel. You can use it to find the difference in days/months/years between two dates. Age Calculation You can calculate a persons age based on their birthday and todays date. The calculation uses the DATEDIF() function. The DATEDIF() is not documented in Excel 5, 7 or 97, but it is in 2000. (Makes you wonder what else Microsoft forgot to tell us!) Birth date : 01-Jan-60 Years lived : 52 =DATEDIF(C8,TODAY(),"y") and the months : 4 =DATEDIF(C8,TODAY(),"ym") and the days : 30 =DATEDIF(C8,TODAY(),"md") One can calculate by below formula, but it is cumbersome to calculate months. Another way to calculate age This method gives you an age which may potentially have decimal places representing the months. If the age is 20.5, the .5 represents 6 months. Birth date : 01-Jan-60 Age is : 52.41 =(TODAY()-C23)/365.25
