• Is there a log file analyzer for log4j files?

  I am looking for some kind of analyzer tool for log files generated by log4j files. I am looking something more advanced than grep? What are you using for log file analysis? I am looking for following kinds of features: The tool should tell me how many time a given log statement or a stack trace has occurred, preferably with support for some kinds of patterns (eg. number of log statements matching 'User [a-z]* logged in'). Breakdowns by log level (how many INFO, DEBUG lines) and by class that initiated the log message would be nice. Breakdown by date (how many log statements in given time period) What log lines occur commonly together? Support for several files since I am using log rolling Hot spot analysis: find if there is a some time period when there is unusually high number of log statements Either command-line or GUI are fine Open Source is preferred but I am also interested in commercial offerings My log4j configuration uses org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout with pattern %d %p %c - %m%n but that could be adapted for analyzer tool.

  Hello, i have a QMainWindow. It has this parameters: this->setWindowFlags(Qt::Tool); this->setFocusPolicy(Qt::StrongFocus); this->setAttribute(Qt::WA_QuitOnClose,true); After showEvent calles my window is shown but unactivated. I tried to overload show function: ... QMainWindow::showEvent(event); this->activateWindow(); ... But it doesn't help me. EDIT: When i commented line this->setWindowFlags(Qt::Tool); everything worked fine, but i need in tool-flag. Any ideas? EDIT: OS: Linux Programming language: c++ Qt version: 4.5.1

• Why is MonoDevelop compiling with csc.exe?

  I am trying to use MonoDevelop (2.4 beta 1) on Windows (7 x64) in order to test a .NET application on Mono (2.6.4). For some reason MonoDevelop is not using the Mono tool chain to build the application. It compiles it with the Microsoft tool chain - C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.5\csc.exe. The project I am trying to build is a simple ASP.NET MVC application generated from the "New ASP.NET MVC application" template. The "Runtime Version" dropdown in Project \Options-Build-General shows "MONO/.NET 35". What gives? Is there a way to change the .NET tool chain?

  Hi folks, I have a GWT application and wanna to test load and functionality using a tool like jmeter. I am not sure jmeter is right tool for GWT. Can anybody direct me to proper tool or can tell me how to do it with jmeter? I want to test login functionality: I have two text box 'User name' and 'Password' on login screen and want to test how many users can log in simultaneously, how much time a round trip to server it takes. Don't know how jmeter can get 'user name' and 'password' and can submit it to validate against DB for GWT application? Thanks in advance.

  Hello, I want to know if there exists a tool to help in reversing a compressed javascript that has obscure variable names. I am not looking for a pretty-printing beautifier, but for a tool that actually know a to change & propagate variable name choices. Let me be more specific : - some of the functions belong to the 'public' API and i want to impose readable argument names in their prototypes - there are intermediary variables for document, window and other browser idioms I would like to give this knowledge to the tool and then let it create another javascript where the knowledge would have been correctly propagated. thanks Jerome Wagner

• How to debug unreleased COM references from managed code?

  I have been searching for a tool to debug unreleased COM references, that usually cause e.g. Word/Outlook processes to hang in memory in case the code does not call Marshal.ReleaseCOMObject on all COM instances correctly. (Outlook 2007 partially fixes this for outlook addins, but this is a generic question). Is there a tool that would display at least a list of COM references (by type) held by managed code? Ideally, it would also display memory profiler-style object trees helping to debug where the reference increment occured. Debugging at runtime is not that important as being able to attach to a hung process - because the problem typically occurs when the code is done with the COM interface and someone forgot to release something - the application (e.g. winword) hangs in memory even after the calling managed application quits. If such tool does not exist, what is the (technical?) reason? It would be very useful for debugging a lot of otherwise very hard to find problems when working with COM interop.

  I want to create tool tips for each part in a form which employees have to fill in a share point web page. When users move the mouse cursor on each field (Title, description, department etc.) the related tip will be automatically became visible as a simple pop-up (tool tip) and summarize what they should write there. and when the mouse cursor is not on one of these fields there is no tool tip. How can I design such a system via share point designer? I am not able use any add ons. I can't upload any additional things to the server. I have to make page based design.   I have a large tree. I want to be able to visualize it using a GUI tool. I want the ability to pan and zoom the tree image so that i can focus on part of the tree. Is there an existing tool to achieve this?   this seems to be a reoccurring issue: we receive a bug report for our software and with it tons of traces or logfiles. since finding errors is much easier when having a visualization of the log messages/events over time it is convenient to use a tool that can display the progression of events in a graph etc. (e.g. wireshark (http://www.wireshark.org) for analyzing network traffic) what tool do you use for such a purpose? the problem with most tools i used so far is that they mercilessly break down when you feed them huge data traces ( 1GB) so some criteria for such a tool would be: can deal with huge input files ( 1 GB) is really fast (so you don't have to get coffee while a file is loading) has some sort of filtering mechanism

• Preferred way of using UiBinder with multiple screens

  We have a GWT app that has multiple screens, based off of a menu. So App loads user sees Do This Do That Each menu item loads a different screen. What is the best way to switch the screens. Right now what I do roughly is RootPanel.get(CONTENT).remove(menu); RootPanel.get(CONTENT).add(new DoThisScreen()); I ask this because it seems on IE 8 (and I am sure 7,6) that the DoThisScreen is basically not recognize by IE's Developer Tool (wannabe firebug tool, when you press F12). Using IE's dev tool I tell it to highlight a textbox in the DoThisScreen, for some reason it won't highlight it or list it in the html.

  Hello, I am new to the code generation tools and I would like to know how does a tool like LLBGen Pro compares with the Entity Framework? On top of that my boos is really looking into a tool called CodeOnTime http://codeontime.com/default.aspx because he likes their good UI support. I am asking here because I really want an unbiased opinion. I am not sure if LLBGen can also generate the UI. So far all the development in the house we do it the classic way coding each layer manually. However we are in need of a fast prototyping tool. • Excluding standard directories from code coverage results with C++/CLI

  I have a Visual Studio 2010 .NET 4 solution with C# projects and a C++/CLI project. I use Visual Studio's built in unit tests and code coverage. Other than the fact that Visual Studio 2010 coverage tool for C++/CLI projects seems to be much weaker than Visual Studio 2008 coverage tool, I get weird results. For example, I get uncovered code in this file: c:\program files (x86)\microsoft visual studio 10.0\vc\include\xstring And some other files in that directory. I want to exclude this code from coverage results. Is there a way to put some exclude attributes on that code? If not, is there a different automatic way to exclude that code from coverage? If not, is there a way to use EXCLUDE option to exclude it? Can it be done automatically within Visual Studio without running the coverage tool from command prompt? Any other solutions?

  I have some code that I thought I had written so that it would play nice on IE. But apparently it does not. I use IE8 for my testing and get quite frustrated with the built-in debugging 'tool'. I found that firebug has a javascript tool that debugs for IE but I have to click it for every page, wait for it to load and then test my script. Is there a way to make IE ALWAYS load the firebug .js file? I tried searching for way to set up a custom header file for my IE installation but was unsuccessful. Is there another tool out there that would be better/easier to use? Another way to test scripts for IE compatibility?

• Seeking a GUI auto-format feature for T-SQL

  Is there a freely available GUI tool that will allow interaction with Microsoft SQL Server (via T-SQL) that provides an auto-format feature? I constantly find myself writing queries in SQL Query Analyzer (Microsoft’s standard GUI tool for T-SQL) and cutting/pasting the whole thing into SQLyog (a GUI tool for MySQL), where I can press F12 and have it reformatted into an easily readable, industry standard format. I then cut/paste this back into Query Analyzer to execute. I do this all the time at work and haven’t been able to find an alternative. I realize that SQLyog is no longer free software, but what I’m looking for is a specific alternative to a MS SQL Server interface (with auto-formatting). Thanks in advance for your help.

  I need a tool which gets a list of machine names and file wildcards. Then it connects to all these machines (SSH) and begins to monitor changes (appendings to the end) in each file matched by wildcards. New lines in each such file are saved to the local machine to the file with the same name. (This is a task of real-time log files collecting.) I could use ssh + tail -f, of course, but it is not very robust: if a monitoring process dies and then restarts, some data from remote files may be lost (because tail -f does not save the position at which it is finished before). I may write this tool manually, but before - I'd like to know if such tool already exists or not.

  We are looking for a web-based document merge solution. Our application is a web-based project management tool built using Xataface - PHP on Windows IIS + mySQL. We have a function that allows the user to generate a status report in Microsoft Word format based on data in the tool. Currently this function is implemented using LiveDocX. We have a status report template, and LiveDocX performs the merge into the template using data from our project management tool. The main drawback is LiveDocx is web-service based. We are looking to replace LiveDocX in order to reduce our dependence on the up-time of a third-party web-service that we cannot control. Does anyone have any suggestions on a web based document merge solution that I can install on my IIS or PHP based server?

• Where does C# and the .NET Framework fail?

  In my non-programming life, I always attempt to use the approprite tool for the job, and I feel that I do the same in my programming life, but I find that I am choosing C# and .NET for almost everything. I'm finding it hard to come up with (realistic business) needs that cannot be met by .NET and C#. Obviously embedded systems might require something less bloated than the .NET Micro Framework, but I'm really looking for line of business type situations where .NET is not the best tool. I'm primarly a C# and .NET guy since its what I'm the most comfertable in, but I know a fair amount of C++, php, VB, powershell, batch files, and Java, as well as being versed in the web technologes (javascript, html/css). But I'm open minded about it my skill set and I'm looking for cases where C# and .NET are not the right tool for the job. The bottom line here, is that I feel that I'm choosing C# and .NET simply because I am very comfertable with it, so I'm looking for cases where you have chosen something other than .NET, even though you are primarly a .NET developer.

  We have a C++/CLI mixed mode assembly out of which we produce an XML file that we use for both, Sandcastle documentation and Intellisense. We use a tool which scans the assembly and create all entries for us, unfortunately I don't know how this tool works and it is unable to handle method signatures like: void foo([Out] long bar); The XML file is expected this parameter to be System.Int32!CompilerServices.IsLong@ but our tool just can't handle that.   I have some stylesheets from different sources in my web project. I want to harmonize them. Some styles I need from the one, some from the other. Is there a tool or method how to systematically resolve style conflicts? I tried IE8 developer tool, and yes, it is possible to view conflicts at the level of each element. Basically I'm looking for a tool that is able to record the clicks and events on the canvas component and is able to replay those events. So far most of the testing tools like Telerik WebUI Testing Suite, Selenium, TestSwarm, qUnit, Jasmine, Hudson seems that they don't fully support HTML5 canvas testing.   Hi, I can easily validate a XML document against a XML Schema, eg. with XMLSpy or programmatically. Is it possible to do this with a WSDL file? It does not seem possible with XMLSpy or any other XML tool I know. For me the only possibility right now is to do it programmatically, eg. by generating Java code from the WSDL and starting a request, which is then marshalled correctly. If there is no tool / easy programmatic approach, is there a tool which can extract XML Schema from the WSDL? Best
