    I'm new to asp.net and now following through the http://nerddinnerbook.s3.amazonaws.com/Part1.htm howto. All is fine except of when code is falling with exception i see Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.3053; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.3053 but at project properties 3.5 is selected. what is wrong and how to fix it? ps: i'm running code directly from VS2008 (by pressing ctrl+f5) without any dedicated IIS.

  • VSLauncher starts wrong version

    I have 3 versions of Visual Studio installed, and 3 projects that require a specific version. VSLauncher USED to look at the SLN or VCPROJ file and open the correct version of Visual Studio. Now it only starts the most recent version, regardless of the project. Note that this has nothing to do with the commonly reported problem with beta versions of VS. none of the SLNs have ever been touched by a beta VS.

  • Access Control Service: Protocol and Token Transition

    ACS v2 supports a number of protocols (WS-Federation, WS-Trust, OpenId, OAuth 2 / WRAP) and a number of token types (SWT, SAML 1.1/2.0) – see Vittorio’s Infographic here. Some protocols are designed for active client (WS-Trust, OAuth / WRAP) and some are designed for passive clients (WS-Federation, OpenID). One of the most obvious advantages of ACS is that it allows to transition between various protocols and token types. Once example would be using WS-Federation/SAML between your application and ACS to sign in with a Google account. Google is using OpenId and non-SAML tokens, but ACS transitions into WS-Federation and sends back a SAML token. This way you application only needs to understand a single protocol whereas ACS acts as a protocol bridge (see my ACS2 sample here). Another example would be transformation of a SAML token to a SWT.     I would like to start using Unfuddle for my project on 1&1 server. I never used subversion and core control before. So, I read a lot of documentation about it but each time, I get lost at the very beginning : I've downloaded the latest version of subversion. But on every tutorial, the way to follow is different. First I sae, on a lot of tuts, that you have to enter command lines. Is that ONLY for Linux ? Like here : http://chwalisz.org/2007/08/05/subversion-on-11-shared-hosting/ I also find something completely different on some website, I think (correct me if I'm wrong) it is the Windows tuts, deeply different frm the linu one.     I'm looking for a version numbering scheme that expresses the extent of change, especially compatiblity. Apache APR, for example, use the well known version numbering scheme <major>.<minor>.<patch> example: 4.5.11 Maven suggests a similar but more detailed schema: <major>.<minor>.<patch>-<qualifier>-<build number> example: 4.5.11-RC1-3732 Where is the Maven versioning scheme defined? Are there conventions for qualifier and build number? Probably it is a bad idea to use maven but not to follow the Maven version scheme ... What other version numbering schemes do you know? What scheme would you prefer and why?

  • MS Bing web crawler out of control causing our site to go down

    Here is a weird one that I am not sure what to do. Today our companies e-commerce site went down. I tailed the production log and saw that we were receiving a ton of request from this range of IP's 157.55.98.0/157.55.100.0. I googled around and come to find out that it is a MSN Web Crawler. So essentially MS web crawler overloaded our site causing it not to respond. Even though in our robots.txt file we have the following; Crawl-delay: 10 So what I did was just banned the IP range in iptables. But what I am not sure to do from here is how to follow up. I can't find anywhere to contact Bing about this issue, I don't want to keep those IPs blocked because I am sure eventually we will get de-indexed from Bing. And it doesn't really seem like this has happened to anyone else before. Any Suggestions? Update, My Server / Web Stats Our web server is using Nginx, Rails 3, and 5 Unicorn workers. We have 4gb of memory and 2 virtual cores. We have been running this setup for over 9 months now and never had an issue, 95% of the time our system is under very little load. On average we receive 800,000 page views a month and this never comes close to bringing / slowing down our web server. Taking a look at the logs we were receiving anywhere from 5 up to 40 request / second from this IP range. In all my years of web development I have never seen a crawler hit a website so many times. Is this new with Bing?

  • Visual Studio 2008 marks solution files as version 10.00

    Hi After trying out VS2010b2 also my VS2008 installation changes the versions of solution and project files to "Version 10.00". The MSBuild.exe on our CI Server does not support them. Is there a way to make VS2008 generate sln files with version number 9.00 again? I know, i can fix that manually. But each time I open a solution, the version gets changed back, which is annoying. I have searched for an answer and so far I have found the following solutions: Using System.Windows.Forms WebBrowser wb = new WebBrowser; wb.Version; SELECT path,filename,extension,version FROM CIM_DataFile WHERE path="\\Program Files\\Internet Explorer\\" AND filename="iexplore" AND extension="exe" AND version>"8.0" And there is probably a way of looking up in the registry. Is there must a more elegant solution to this?

  • Fan control on Acer Aspire One D255 netbook

    I have Ubuntu netbook edition on my Acer Aspire One D255 netbook and I notice that I always hear the fan working at 100% despite the actual temperature. I run the sensors command its only at 13c, theres no reason why the fan needs to be running this hard at that temp. root@adam-netbook:~# sensors acpitz-virtual-0 Adapter: Virtual device temp1: +13.0°C (crit = +100.0°C) I'm guessing I may need some drivers in order to interact with the fan? Does anyone have any experience with this? It also seems that "sensors" may not be all that accurate, the temperature never seems to fluctuate.

From right-clicking on My Computer, and selecting Properties, it appears that such information is not readily available. Typing ver at the command prompt also doesn't seem to return anything about the nature of the platform in which it is installed. Under Linux, I'd use uname -a to find out what kernel was running. Is there an analog on Windows?

  • Access Control and Accessibility in Oracle IRM 11g

    A recurring theme you'll find throughout this blog is that IRM needs to balance security with usability and manageability. One of the innovations in Oracle IRM 11g typifies this, as we have introduced a new right that may be included in any role - Accessibility. When creating or modifying a role, you simply select Accessibility along with Open, Print, Edit or whatever rights you want to include in the role. You might, for example, have parallel roles of Reader and Reader with Accessibility and Contributor and Contributor with Accessibility. The effect of the Accessibility right is to relax some of the protection of content in use such that selected users can use accessibility tools. For example, a user with the Accessibility right would be able to use the screen magnification tool, which IRM would ordinarily prevent because it involves screen capture. This new right makes it easy for you to apply security to documents yet, subject to suitable approval processes, cater for the fact that a subset of users might be disproportionately inconvenienced by some of the normal usage constraints. Rather than make those users put up with the restrictions, or perhaps exempt them from using sealed documents altogether, this new right allows you to accommodate them in a controlled manner, and to balance security with corporate accessibility goals.

  • How to sort a ListView control by a column in Visual C#

    Microsoft provide an article of the same name (previously published as Q319401) and it shows a nice class 'ListViewColumnSorter ' for sorting a standard ListView when the user clicks the column header. This is very useful for String values, however for Numeric or DateTime data it gives odd results. E.g. 100 would come before 99 in an ascending sort as the string compare sees 1 < 9. So my challenge was to allow other types to be sorted. This turned out to be fairly simple as I just needed to create an inner class in ListViewColumnSorter which extends the .Net CaseInsensitiveComparer class, and then use this as the ObjectCompare member's type. Note: Ideally we would be able to use IComparer as the member's type, but the Compare method is not virtual in CaseInsensitiveComparer , so we have to create an exact type: public class ListViewColumnSorter : IComparer {     private CaseInsensitiveComparer ObjectCompare;     private MyComparer ObjectCompare;     ... rest of Microsofts class implementation... } Here is my private inner comparer class, note the 'new int Compare' as Compare is not virtual, and also note we pass the values to the base compare as the correct type (e.g. Decimal, DateTime) so they compare correctly: private class MyComparer : CaseInsensitiveComparer {     public new int Compare(object x, object y)     {         try         {             string s1 = x.ToString();             string s2 = y.ToString();               // check for a numeric column             decimal n1, n2 = 0;             if (Decimal.TryParse(s1, out n1) && Decimal.TryParse(s2, out n2))                 return base.Compare(n1, n2);             else             {                 // check for a date column                 DateTime d1, d2;                 if (DateTime.TryParse(s1, out d1) && DateTime.TryParse(s2, out d2))                     return base.Compare(d1, d2);             }         }         catch (ArgumentException) { }           // just use base string compare         return base.Compare(x, y);     } } You could extend this for other types, even custom classes as long as they support ICompare.   • SteelSeries & JavaFX External Control via Tinkerforge

    The first photo shows me controling a JavaFX chart by rotating a Tinkerforge device, while the other two are of me using code by Christian Pohl from Nordhorn, Germany, to show components from Gerrit Grunwald's SteelSeries library being externally controled by Tinkerforge devices: What these examples show is that you can have a robot (i.e., an external device), of some kind, that can produce output that can be visualized via JavaFX charts and SteelSeries components. For example, imagine a robot that moves around while collecting data on the current temperature throughout a building. That's possible because a temperature device is part of Tinkerforge, just like the rotating device and distance device shown in the photos above. The temperature data collected by the robot would be displayed in various ways on a computer via, for example, JavaFX charts and SteelSeries components. From there, reports could be produced and adjustments could be made to the robot while it continues moving around collecting temperature data. The fact that Tinkerforge has Wifi support makes a scenario such as described here completely possible to implement. And all of this can be programmed in Java, without very much work, since the Java bindings for Tinkerforge are simple to use, such as shown in yesterday's blog entry.

  • Is Error Recovery Control or TLER necessary for software RAID5 using LVM

    I ave been told that for RAID configurations you don't what to use standard desktop drives because they when/if they enter a error recovery mode they might time out and get dropped from the raid. Is this true for LVM software RAID or this this a hardware RAID issue primarily?. We are running this server primarily as a backup server and would like to take advantage of the lower price of the desktop drives.

  • Set which pulseaudio sync is affected by volume control buttons

    On my previous installation of ubuntu 10.04 it was possible to set a sync in pavucontrol, which is affected by the volume up-/down buttons on my keyboard. Now in Lubuntu 11.10 this does not work anymore. I can check the green tick, but this affects nothing, still always one and the same sink is affected. Did anybody have this before? Where is this function configured - is there a config file, in which I could change this configuration directly?

    Compare two input dates to avoid invalid dates. In this example I have created two textboxes and namded as "TextBoxSeminarDate" and "TextBoxBookingDeadline". Booking deadline date must be before date to the Seminar date. Therefore I used Operator as "LesThanEqual". I have validated "TextBoxBookingDeadline" value comparing with the "TextBoxSeminarDate" value as follow.   <asp:CompareValidator ID="CompareValidatorBookingDeadline" runat="server" ControlToCompare="TextBoxSeminarDate" ControlToValidate="TextBoxBookingDeadline" Display="Dynamic" ErrorMessage="Please check the seminar date and select appropriate date for booking deadline" Operator="LessThanEqual" Type="Date"  ValueToCompare="<%= TextBoxSeminarDate.Text.ToShortString() %>">*</asp:CompareValidator> The important thing is "ValueToCompare" property of the compare validator. Here I have assined it to the value of the TextboxSeminarDate and then compered it with the booking deadline date.

  • Subsumption architecture vs. perceptual control theory

    I'm a new person to AI field and I have to research and compare 2 different architectures for a thesis I'm writing. Before you scream (homework thread), I've been reading on these 2 topics only to find that I'm confusing myself more.. let me first start with stating briefly what I know so far. Subsumption is based on the fact that targets of a system are different in sophistication, thus that requires them to be added as layers, each layer can suppress (modify) the command of the layers below it, and there are inhibitors to stop signals from execution lets say. PCT stresses on the fact that there are nodes to handle environmental changes (negative feedback), so the inputs coming from an environment go through a comparator node and then an action is generated by that node, HPCT or (Hierarchical PCT) is based on nesting these cycles inside each other so a small cycle to avoid crashing would be nested in a more sophisticated cycle that targets a certain location for example. My questions, am I getting this the right way? am I missing any critical understanding about these 2 models? also any idea where I can find simplified explanations for each theory (so far been struggling trying to understand the papers from Google scholar :< ) /Y

    When I was using subversion for the code for an application, I could append a period and the result of svnversion to the version number to create a unique and monotone-increasing version number and also be guaranteed that any check-out of the same revision of the code would generate the same version number. In Mercurial, because revision numbers are not necessarily consistent across clones, the local revision number is not suitable. The hash is appropriately unique and consistent, but does not create a number that is monotone-increasing. How can I generate a suitable number to append to the version number based on the Mercurial repository commits?
