  • Snort not detecting outgoing traffic

    - by Reacen
I'm using Snort 2.9 on windows server 2008 R2 x64, with a very simple configuration that goes like this: # Entire content of Snort.conf: alert tcp any any -> any any (sid:5000000; content:"_secret_"; msg:"TRIGGERED";) # command line: snort.exe -c etc/Snort.conf -l etc/log -A console Using my browser, I send the string "_secret_" in the url to my server (where Snort is located). Example: http://myserver.com/index.php?_secret_ Snort receives it and throws an alert, it works, no problem ! But when I try something like this : <?php // (index.php) header('XTest: _secret_'); // header echo '_secret_'; // data ?> If I just request http://myserver.com/index.php, it does not work or detect anything from the outgoing traffic even though the php file is sending the same string both in headers and in data, with no compression/encoding or whatsoever. (I checked using Wireshark) This looks to me like a Snort problem. No matter what I do it only detects receiving packets. Did anyone ever face this sort of problems with Snort ? Any idea how to fix it ?

  • Redirect non-www ssl traffic to www ssl (apache)

    - by The NinjaSysadmin
Hello, I'm attempting to get a redirect which is failing, and for some reason I can't think today. I have a vHost file within HTTPD that listens on standard port 80 and port 443. I'm attempting to redirect https://domain.com/(.*) to https://www.domain.com/$1 so that the URL remains intact. My config is as follows: ServerName www.domain.com ServerAlias tempdomain.testdomain.co.uk ServerAlias domain.com My rerwrite rule I'm using is. RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^domain.com$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://www.domain.com$1 [R=301,L] I've also tried removing the . and $ but nothing.. When I visit the url https://domain.com/secure.page?action=comp it doesn't redirect to https://www.domain.com/secure.page?action=comp I do also have other SSL pages, the above was just an example.. Can anyone point out my stupidity.

  • visually documenting web server configuration and infrastructure

    - by Alex Ciarlillo
I have just finished a large re-organization and update of our institutions web server(s). This server hosts 3 virtual hosts, 3-4 blogs, 2 wikis, some legacy static HTML pages, and many hosted documents (PDF, .jpg, .xls). I have organized the site into a structure of something like: /var/www/sites/vhost1, vhost2, vhost3 .../wordpress/blogX .../mediawiki/wikiX Data is in a seperate directory structure so I can run a cron task over it to make sure it is all writeable and such. I then symlink to these data directories for each application. /var/www/data/vhost1, vhost2, vhost3 .../wordpress/blogX/uploads .../mediawiki/wikiX/images All Apache configs are in /etc/httpd/conf.d/vhosts.d/vhost1,2,3.conf On top of this there is also a testing server which mirrors this setup. Once changes are fully tested, they are rsynced down to the live server. All the wordpress installs and mediawiki installs are straight form SVN and updates are done by switching branches or "svn up". So my question is how can I best document to share with a) co-workers, b) possible future replacement, c) myself 6 months from now. Obviously I can make a wiki page, excel document, whatever and fill it with text, but I am looking for a more visual representation that I can use to explain the architecture to less-technical people. Ideally it would be awesome if this visual representation could then be expanded to get more technical details.

    I have a codeigniter php application on nginx. It works as expected on Apache but after moving to nginx, I noticed that the index.php is automatically removed from the URL in all my links. Infact when I try using index.php it does not go to the desired URL but gets redirected to my default controller. below is a coopy of my nginx.conf file. server{ listen 80; server_name mydomainname.com; root /var/www/domain/current; # index index.php; error_log /var/log/nginx/error.log; access_log /var/log/nginx/access.log main; location / { # Check if a file or directory index file exists, else route it to index.php. try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php ; } location ~* \.php { fastcgi_pass backend; include fastcgi.conf; fastcgi_buffer_size 128k; fastcgi_buffers 4 256k; fastcgi_busy_buffers_size 256k; fastcgi_read_timeout 500; #fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME $document_root/index.php; add_header Expires "Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:01 GMT"; add_header Cache-Control "no-cache, no-store, private, proxy-revalidate, must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0"; add_header Pragma no-cache; add_header X-Served-By $hostname; } location ~* ^.+\.(css|js)$ { expires 7d; add_header Pragma public; add_header Cache-Control "public"; } # set expiration of assets to MAX for caching location ~* \.(ico|gif|jpe?g|png)(\?[0-9]+)?$ { expires max; log_not_found on; } } I need to use my URL With the index.php -- please help.

  • Server taking too long to respond error

    - by DCJones
Hi, This is my first post on serverFault and my first entry in to web server configuration. The hardware and software. CPU: GenuineIntel, Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7500 @ 2.93GHz OS: Linux 2.6.18-128.el5 Memory: 2Gb Background. I am running a small database (MySQL), around 1000 records with each record containing 44 fields. At the start of each day “00:01” the tables are cleared and populated with fresh data. The are 10 remote PCs all running Winodws XP and Firefox internet browser. All remote PC’s are connected to the internet using a min 4Gb broadband connection. Each remote PC runs a URL which displays a dynamic page of data which is refreshed every 20 seconds. This is a continual process 24 hours a day. I problem I am having is on odd occasions throughout the day the PC browser error with “Server taking too long to respond error”. What I am trying to find our is if I have the correct setting in the httpd.conf file on the server. Any help or advice anyone can provide would be very helpful. • How can I ensure that my static ip address is read from /etc/network/interfaces rather than dhcp?

    - by jonderry
This is a follow up to the following question. I'm trying to set a static IP by changing /etc/network/interfaces to the following: # interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8) auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.2.133 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.2.1 dns-nameservers 8.8.8.8 and then running /sbin/ifdown eth0; /sbin/ifup eth0. However, the change in IP address doesn't appear to take effect without editing /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf and commenting out the following before running ifdown; ifup: request subnet-mask, broadcast-address, time-offset, routers, domain-name, domain-name-servers, domain-search, host-name, dhcp6.name-servers, dhcp6.domain-search, netbios-name-servers, netbios-scope, interface-mtu, rfc3442-classless-static-routes, ntp-servers, dhcp6.fqdn, dhcp6.sntp-servers; Strangely, after commenting out this line, running ifdown; ifup works, but when I uncomment it, the behavior does not revert to the previous behavior of ignoring changes to my settings in /etc/network/interfaces (this doesn't seem like a problem, but I really need to be able to repeat this problem so that I can be confident that my solution is robust) Also, I'd rather not have to edit /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf to change my static IP since it seems I should be able to do this by only editing interfaces. Can anyone explain the issues I'm seeing above and suggest the best way of making changes to static IP addresses take effect that admits reproducibility so that I can be sure that my approach works?

  • Am I obliged to use ipv6 tunnel services if I want to be able to use it?

    - by Zagorax
I was looking for configuring Slackware to use ipv6 but all instruction I found speak about using an ipv6 tunnel that encapsulate ipv6 request into ipv4 packet and send them to an external router that extracts ipv6 request and sends a reply (or, at least, this is what I understood). Is that necessary? Isn't there a way to configure a pure ipv6 system? If yes, could you please point me to a guide that clearly explain how to enable ipv6 without this trick? I would like to configure my Slackware desktop at first, and then do the same with my Centos server. EDIT: maybe I gave you too few information. Sorry. I'll write some more information thanks to the posted guide. ~$ test -f /proc/net/if_inet6 && echo "Running kernel is IPv6 ready" Running kernel is IPv6 ready So, it seems ipv6 is enabled in my kernel. Some other output from ifconfig, route and /etc/resolv.conf content (with opendns): ~$ /sbin/ifconfig wlan0 | grep inet6 inet6 addr: fe80::21f:3bff:fe60:cc5b/64 Scope:Link ~$ /sbin/route -A inet6 | grep wlan0 fe80::/64 :: U 256 0 0 wlan0 ff00::/8 :: U 256 0 0 wlan0 ~$ cat /etc/resolv.conf inet6 nameserver 2620:0:ccc::2 nameserver 208.67.222.222 nameserver 208.67.220.220 But still, with ping6 I can only ping localhost (::1). Everything else is unreachable. Normal ping works fine. That is why I was asking if I am obliged to use a tunnel.

  • Apache routing vhosts to /var/www

    - by FHannes
One user at my site has reported that he reaches the content at /var/www when browsing to any of the vhosts at my server. As far as I’m aware, my Apache server does not contain a document root that references this folder. On top of that, this user seems to be the only one experiencing the issue. According to his ISP, the issue isn’t caused by them, yet, on his mobile connection, he can access the site. When browsing to my server’s IP, he also receives the correct content from the default vhost. What could be the possible causes of this issue and how can I get it to stop? I’ve explored pretty much every option I could think of.

  • NginxHttpAuthBasicModule with Sinatra & Passenger

    - by scainey
Hi, I'm serving static pages from a Sinatra application using Nginx. I've implemented Basic Authentication for one page on the site using NginxHttpAuthBasicModule, the authentication succeeds but Nginx doesn't resolve the link. Error log gives - 2010/03/22 12:15:19 [error] 7143#0: *2902 open() "/home/me/live/mysite_home/public /mypage" failed (2: No such file or directory), client: 82.71.18.122, server: mysite.com, request: "GET /mypage HTTP/1.1", host: "mysite.com" The actual file is found at: /home/me/live/mysite_home/live/mypage.erb The configuration file is: server { listen 80; server_name mysite.com; root /home/me/live/mysite_home/public; passenger_enabled on; location /mypage { auth_basic "Restricted"; auth_basic_user_file htpasswd; } } server { listen 443; server_name mysite.com; root /home/me/live/mysite_home/public; passenger_enabled on; ssl on; ssl_certificate /etc/nginx/conf/certs/server.crt; ssl_certificate_key /etc/nginx/conf/certs/server.key; keepalive_timeout 70; location /mypage { auth_basic "Restricted"; auth_basic_user_file htpasswd; } } Not sure if this is a Sinatra, Passenger or Nginx thing, or if I'm just missing something.

  • Enabling `mod_rewrite` apache, permissions issues

    - by rudolph9
In attempting to enable mod_rewrite on the Apache2 web server installed with Mac OSX 10.7.4. Following these instruction, ultimately using the configuration to host CakePHP applications, I run into permissions issues accessing the site via a web browser when I set the directory block associated with cakephp site /etc/apache2/users/username.conf from: <Directory "/Users/username/Sites/"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride none Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> /etc/apache2/users/username.conf to: <Directory "/Users/username/Sites/"> Options Indexes MultiViews AllowOverride none Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> <Directory "/Users/username/Sites/cakephp_app/"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride all Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> The .htaccess files are the CakePHP 2.2.2 default as follows: /Users/username/Sites/cakephp_app/.htaccess <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^$ app/webroot/ [L] RewriteRule (.*) app/webroot/$1 [L] </IfModule> /Users/username/Sites/cakephp_app/app/.htaccess <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^$ webroot/ [L] RewriteRule (.*) webroot/$1 [L] </IfModule> /Users/username/Sites/cakephp_app/app/webroot/.htaccess <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php [QSA,L] </IfModule> When performing the request via a web browser at to http://0.0.0.0/~username/cakephp_app/index.php the content of the response is Not Found The requested URL /Users/username/Sites/cakephp_app/app/webroot/ was not found on this server. Apache/2.2.21 (Unix) DAV/2 PHP/5.3.10 with Suhosin-Patch Server at 0.0.0.0 Port 80 Upon a request to http://0.0.0.0/~username/ and http://0.0.0.0/~username/cakephp_app/, added to /var/log/apache2/error_log accordingly are the following: [Tue Sep 04 22:53:26 2012] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /Library/WebServer/Documents/Users, referer: http://0.0.0.0/~username/ [Tue Sep 04 22:53:26 2012] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /Library/WebServer/Documents/favicon.ico What is causing the issue? Is there server program, ideally available via a homebrew script, which would make hosting CakePHP applications for testing purposes more effective and efficient?

  • Apache resolves all URLs to default

    - by Ariel
I am using Apache 2.2 on a Debian-based distro. For some reason, all URLs are directed to the default index. No error or anything. That means: example.domain.com goes to domain.com. "example" can be just anything. In the default Vhost file (/etc/apache2/sites-available/default) I've added: ServerName: www.domain.com But it still keeps that odd behaviour. Please let me know how to enable the common, default behaviour. I haven't changed anything by the way, this is since installation. Update: Following SvW's answer, I am looking for a way to force Apache not to accept any URL, only those specified as VirtualHosts.

  • Can Apache be configured to specify more than one docroot per virtualhost?

    - by syn4k
I have a vhost which specifies <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot "/private/var/www/html/cms/sites/" ServerName localhost.com </VirtualHost> I would like to know if localhost.com can also point to /private/var/www/html/wordpress/. This seems like a no brainer but Apache is like black magic; these things are always possible. Anyway, I already know that I could specify a new ServerName entry and set a new docroot. The problem is, both directories need to be available as roots. If I need to provide more info, I will gladly do so.

  • Directories Throwing 404 Errors - Virtual Host Configuration and mod_rewrite

    - by nicorellius
On my production server, things are fine: PHP extension removal and trailing slash rules are in place in my .htaccess file. But locally, this isn't working (well, partially, anyway). I'm running Apache2 with a virtual host for the site in question. I decided to not use the .htaccess file in this case and just add the rules to the httpd-vhosts.conf file instead, which, I've heard, if possible on your server, is a better way to go. The virtual host is working and the URL I use for my site is like this: devserver:9090 Here is my httpd-vhosts.conf file: NameVirtualHost *:9090 # for stuff other than this site <VirtualHost *:9090> ServerAdmin admin@localhost DocumentRoot "/opt/lampstack/apache2/htdocs" ServerName localhost </VirtualHost> # for site in question <VirtualHost *:9090> ServerAdmin admin@localhost DocumentRoot "/opt/lampstack/apache2/htdocs/devserver" ServerName devserver <Directory "/opt/lampstack/apache2/htdocs/devserver"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks Includes AllowOverride None Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> <IfModule rewrite_module> RewriteEngine ON # remove PHP extension and add trailing slash # note - this doesn't work for directories, and throws 404 # TODO - fix so directories use index.php RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^GET\ /[^?\s]+\.php RewriteRule (.*)\.php$ /$1/ [R=302,L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule (.*)/$ /$1.php [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}.php -f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule .*[^/]$ /$0/ [R=302,L] </IfModule> # error docs ErrorDocument 404 /errors/404.php </VirtualHost> The problem I'm facing is that when I go to directories on the site, I get a 404 error. So for example, this: devserver:9090/page.php goes to devserver:9090/page/ but going to a directory (that has an index.php): devserver:9090/dir/ throws 404 error page. If I type in devserver:9090/dir/index.php I get devserver:9090/dir/index/ and the contents I want appear... Can anyone help me with my rewrite rules?

  • Apache Alias - Chiliproject

    - by asdz
I'm trying to setup Chiliproject (a ruby application for project management) I have setup my Apache already. However I want the Chiliproject to be like http://abc.com/Chiliproject as I want the abc.com to be used for other application. Following is my Chiliproject vhost setting: ServerName abc.com DocumentRoot /var/www/chiliproject/public Alias /chiliproject /var/www/chiliproject/public Options -MultiViews AllowOverride all When I go to abc.com, the Chiliproject page will appear but when I go to abc.com/chiliproject, I will reach the 404 page not found instead. If I change the DocumentRoot to /var/www, the page abc.com will be what I want, but the abc.com/chiliproject will comes to the 'Directory view' of my page.

  • Problems restricting access using Apache

    - by Tola Odejayi
I've set up XAMPP on a Windows 7 machine, and I want to restrict access to the htdocs folder to only requests from the local machine. C:\Xampp\htdocs is the web root folder. I have the following in my apache/conf/httpd.conf file: <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None Order deny, allow Deny from all </Directory> <Directory "C:/Xampp/htdocs"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks Includes ExecCGI AllowOverride All order deny, allow deny from all allow from 127.0.0.1 allow from localhost </Directory> All my .htaccess files are blank. But when I navigate to the web root folder via a browser, I get the following message: Access forbidden! You don't have permission to access the requested directory. There is either no index document or the directory is read-protected. I tried adding the IP restrictions to the <Directory>...</Directory>, but it made no difference. What am I doing wrong here?

  • how to remove location block from $uri in nginx configuration?

    - by Jason
    I have a rewrite in my ngix conf file that works properly except it seems to include the location block as part of the $uri variable. I only want the path after the location block. My current config code is: location /cargo { try_files $uri $uri/ /cargo/index.php?_REWRITE_COMMAND=$uri&args; } Using an example url of http://localhost/cargo/testpage the redirect works, however the value of the "_REWRITE_COMMAND" parameter received by my php file is "/cargo/testpage". I need to strip off the location block and just have "testpage" as the $uri I am pretty sure there is a regex syntax to split the $uri and assign it to a new variable using $1 $2 etc, but I can't find any example to do just a variable assignment using a regex that is not part of a rewrite statement. I've been looking and trying for hours and I just can't seem to get past this last step. I also know I could just strip this out on the application code, but the reason I want to try to fix it in the nginx conf is for compatibility reasons as it also runs on Apache. I also should say that I have figured out a really hacky way to do it, but it involves an "if" statement to check for file existance and the documentation specifically says not to do it that way. -- UPDATE: ANSWERED BY theuni: The regex goes in the location block definition. one note of caution is that php handler location needs to be ABOVE this location, otherwise you will get a server error because it goes into an infinite redirect loop location ~ ^/cargo/(.*) { try_files $1 /cargo/$1/ /cargo/index.php?_REWRITE_COMMAND=$1&args; }

  • where are the default ulimit values set? (linux, centos)

    - by nomercysir
I have two CentOS (5) servers with nearly identical specs. When I login and do: ulimit -u on one machine, I get unlimited and on the other, 77824 When I run a cron like * * * * * ulimit -u > ulimit.txt I get the same results (unlimited, 77824). I am trying to determine where these are set so that I can alter them. They are not set in any of my profiles (.bashrc, /etc/profile, etc .. these wouldn't affect cron anyway) nor in /etc/security/limits.conf (which is empty). I have scoured google and even gone so far as to do grep -Ir 77824 / but nothing has turned up so far. I don't understand how these machines could have come preset with different limits. I am actually wondering not for these machines, but for a different (CentOS 6) machine which has a limit of 1024, which is far too small. I need to run cron jobs with a higher limit and the only way I know how to set that is in the cron job itself. That's ok, but I'd rather set it system wide so it's not as hacky. Thanks for any help. This seems like it should be easy (NOT) EDIT -- SOLVED Ok, I figured this out. It seems to be an issue either with CentOS 6 or perhaps my machine configuration. On the CentOS 5 configuration, I can set in /etc/security/limits.conf: * - nproc unlimited and that would effectively update the accounts and cron limits. However, this does not work in my CentOS 6 box. Instead, I must do: myname1 - nproc unlimited myname2 - nproc unlimited ... And things work as expected. Maybe the UID specification works to, but the wildcard (*) definitely DOES NOT here. Oddly, wildcards DO work for the 'nofile' limit. I still would love to know where the default values are actually coming from, because by default, this file is empty and I couldn't see why I had different defaults for the two CentOS boxes, which had identical hardware and were from the same provider.

  • How do I simplify my URLs with Apache (or DNS)?

    - by user45015
I'm running Apache 2.2 with WHM / cPanel. Let me know what other info you need to answer this question. I want to set up some kind of forwarding/redirect so that the following occurs: _http://appname.mydomain.com/ (ignore the underscore, couldn't post actual links) actually sends you to _http://mydomain.com:8072/appname/ This can be overt (your browser address bar changes) or not, it doesn't really matter (although if I get to pick I would prefer the address bar NOT change). My initial thought was to use a CNAME, but I've since learned you can't include a port in your cname. Now I'm thinking I have to do something with my Apache VHOST? I am very much a novice at apache / web server internal workings, but I know my way around a command line well enough.

  • Silverlight for Windows Embedded tutorial (step 6)

    - by Valter Minute
In this tutorial step we will develop a very simple clock application that may be used as a screensaver on our devices and will allow us to discover a new feature of Silverlight for Windows Embedded (transforms) and how to use an “old” feature of Windows CE (timers) inside a Silverlight for Windows Embedded application. Let’s start with some XAML, as usual: <UserControl xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Width="640" Height="480" FontSize="18" x:Name="Clock">   <Canvas x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="#FF000000"> <Grid Height="24" Width="150" Canvas.Left="320" Canvas.Top="234" x:Name="SecondsHand" Background="#FFFF0000"> <TextBlock Text="Seconds" TextWrapping="Wrap" Width="50" HorizontalAlignment="Right" VerticalAlignment="Center" x:Name="SecondsText" Foreground="#FFFFFFFF" TextAlignment="Right" Margin="2,2,2,2"/> </Grid> <Grid Height="24" x:Name="MinutesHand" Width="100" Background="#FF00FF00" Canvas.Left="320" Canvas.Top="234"> <TextBlock HorizontalAlignment="Right" x:Name="MinutesText" VerticalAlignment="Center" Width="50" Text="Minutes" TextWrapping="Wrap" Foreground="#FFFFFFFF" TextAlignment="Right" Margin="2,2,2,2"/> </Grid> <Grid Height="24" x:Name="HoursHand" Width="50" Background="#FF0000FF" Canvas.Left="320" Canvas.Top="234"> <TextBlock HorizontalAlignment="Right" x:Name="HoursText" VerticalAlignment="Center" Width="50" Text="Hours" TextWrapping="Wrap" Foreground="#FFFFFFFF" TextAlignment="Right" Margin="2,2,2,2"/> </Grid> </Canvas> </UserControl> This XAML file defines three grid panels, one for each hand of our clock (we are implementing an analog clock using one of the most advanced technologies of the digital world… how cool is that?). Inside each hand we put a TextBlock that will be used to display the current hour, minute, second inside the dial (you can’t do that on plain old analog clocks, but it looks nice). As usual we use XAML2CPP to generate the boring part of our code. We declare a class named “Clock” and derives from the TClock template that XAML2CPP has declared for us. class Clock : public TClock<Clock> { ... }; Our WinMain function is more or less the same we used in all the previous samples. It initializes the XAML runtime, create an instance of our class, initialize it and shows it as a dialog: int WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, LPTSTR lpCmdLine, int nCmdShow) { if (!XamlRuntimeInitialize()) return -1;   HRESULT retcode;   IXRApplicationPtr app; if (FAILED(retcode=GetXRApplicationInstance(&app))) return -1; Clock clock;   if (FAILED(clock.Init(hInstance, app))) return -1;     UINT exitcode;   if (FAILED(clock.GetVisualHost()->StartDialog(&exitcode))) return -1;   return exitcode; } Silverlight for Windows Embedded provides a lot of features to implement our UI, but it does not provide timers. How we can update our clock if we don’t have a timer feature? We just use plain old Windows timers, as we do in “regular” Windows CE applications! To use a timer in WinCE we should declare an id for it: #define IDT_CLOCKUPDATE 0x12341234 We also need an HWND that will be used to receive WM_TIMER messages. Our Silverlight for Windows Embedded page is “hosted” inside a GWES Window and we can retrieve its handle using the GetContainerHWND function of our VisualHost object. Let’s see how this is implemented inside our Clock class’ Init method: HRESULT Init(HINSTANCE hInstance,IXRApplication* app) { HRESULT retcode;   if (FAILED(retcode=TClock<Clock>::Init(hInstance,app))) return retcode;   // create the timer user to update the clock HWND clockhwnd;   if (FAILED(GetVisualHost()->GetContainerHWND(&clockhwnd))) return -1;   timer=SetTimer(clockhwnd,IDT_CLOCKUPDATE,1000,NULL); return 0; } We use SetTimer to create a new timer and GWES will send a WM_TIMER to our window every second, giving us a chance to update our clock. That sounds great… but how could we handle the WM_TIMER message if we didn’t implement a window procedure for our window? We have to move a step back and look how a visual host is created. This code is generated by XAML2CPP and is inside xaml2cppbase.h: virtual HRESULT CreateHost(HINSTANCE hInstance,IXRApplication* app) { HRESULT retcode; XRWindowCreateParams wp;   ZeroMemory(&wp, sizeof(XRWindowCreateParams)); InitWindowParms(&wp);   XRXamlSource xamlsrc;   SetXAMLSource(hInstance,&xamlsrc); if (FAILED(retcode=app->CreateHostFromXaml(&xamlsrc, &wp, &vhost))) return retcode;   if (FAILED(retcode=vhost->GetRootElement(&root))) return retcode; return S_OK; } As you can see the CreateHostFromXaml function of IXRApplication accepts a structure named XRWindowCreateParams that control how the “plain old” GWES Window is created by the runtime. This structure is initialized inside the InitWindowParm method: // Initializes Windows parameters, can be overridden in the user class to change its appearance virtual void InitWindowParms(XRWindowCreateParams* wp) { wp->Style = WS_OVERLAPPED; wp->pTitle = windowtitle; wp->Left = 0; wp->Top = 0; } This method set up the window style, title and position. But the XRWindowCreateParams contains also other fields and, since the function is declared as virtual, we could initialize them inside our version of InitWindowParms: // add hook procedure to the standard windows creation parms virtual void InitWindowParms(XRWindowCreateParams* wp) { TClock<Clock>::InitWindowParms(wp);   wp->pHookProc=StaticHostHookProc; wp->pvUserParam=this; } This method calls the base class implementation (useful to not having to re-write some code, did I told you that I’m quite lazy?) and then initializes the pHookProc and pvUserParam members of the XRWindowsCreateParams structure. Those members will allow us to install a “hook” procedure that will be called each time the GWES window “hosting” our Silverlight for Windows Embedded UI receives a message. We can declare a hook procedure inside our Clock class: // static hook procedure static BOOL CALLBACK StaticHostHookProc(VOID* pv,HWND hwnd,UINT Msg,WPARAM wParam,LPARAM lParam,LRESULT* pRetVal) { ... } You should notice two things here. First that the function is declared as static. This is required because a non-static function has a “hidden” parameters, that is the “this” pointer of our object. Having an extra parameter is not allowed for the type defined for the pHookProc member of the XRWindowsCreateParams struct and so we should implement our hook procedure as static. But in a static procedure we will not have a this pointer. How could we access the data member of our class? Here’s the second thing to notice. We initialized also the pvUserParam of the XRWindowsCreateParams struct. We set it to our this pointer. This value will be passed as the first parameter of the hook procedure. In this way we can retrieve our this pointer and use it to call a non-static version of our hook procedure: // static hook procedure static BOOL CALLBACK StaticHostHookProc(VOID* pv,HWND hwnd,UINT Msg,WPARAM wParam,LPARAM lParam,LRESULT* pRetVal) { return ((Clock*)pv)->HostHookProc(hwnd,Msg,wParam,lParam,pRetVal); } Inside our non-static hook procedure we will have access to our this pointer and we will be able to update our clock: // hook procedure (handles timers) BOOL HostHookProc(HWND hwnd,UINT Msg,WPARAM wParam,LPARAM lParam,LRESULT* pRetVal) { switch (Msg) { case WM_TIMER: if (wParam==IDT_CLOCKUPDATE) UpdateClock(); *pRetVal=0; return TRUE; } return FALSE; } The UpdateClock member function will update the text inside our TextBlocks and rotate the hands to reflect current time: // udates Hands positions and labels HRESULT UpdateClock() { SYSTEMTIME time; HRESULT retcode;   GetLocalTime(&time);   //updates the text fields TCHAR timebuffer[32];   _itow(time.wSecond,timebuffer,10);   SecondsText->SetText(timebuffer);   _itow(time.wMinute,timebuffer,10);   MinutesText->SetText(timebuffer);   _itow(time.wHour,timebuffer,10);   HoursText->SetText(timebuffer);   if (FAILED(retcode=RotateHand(((float)time.wSecond)*6-90,SecondsHand))) return retcode;   if (FAILED(retcode=RotateHand(((float)time.wMinute)*6-90,MinutesHand))) return retcode;   if (FAILED(retcode=RotateHand(((float)(time.wHour%12))*30-90,HoursHand))) return retcode;   return S_OK; } The function retrieves current time, convert hours, minutes and seconds to strings and display those strings inside the three TextBlocks that we put inside our clock hands. Then it rotates the hands to position them at the right angle (angles are in degrees and we have to subtract 90 degrees because 0 degrees means horizontal on Silverlight for Windows Embedded and usually a clock 0 is in the top position of the dial. The code of the RotateHand function uses transforms to rotate our clock hands on the screen: // rotates a Hand HRESULT RotateHand(float angle,IXRFrameworkElement* Hand) { HRESULT retcode; IXRRotateTransformPtr rotatetransform; IXRApplicationPtr app;   if (FAILED(retcode=GetXRApplicationInstance(&app))) return retcode;   if (FAILED(retcode=app->CreateObject(IID_IXRRotateTransform,&rotatetransform))) return retcode;     if (FAILED(retcode=rotatetransform->SetAngle(angle))) return retcode;   if (FAILED(retcode=rotatetransform->SetCenterX(0.0))) return retcode;   float height;   if (FAILED(retcode==Hand->GetActualHeight(&height))) return retcode;   if (FAILED(retcode=rotatetransform->SetCenterY(height/2))) return retcode; if (FAILED(retcode=Hand->SetRenderTransform(rotatetransform))) return retcode;   return S_OK; } It creates a IXRotateTransform object, set its rotation angle and origin (the default origin is at the top-left corner of our Grid panel, we move it in the vertical center to keep the hand rotating around a single point in a more “clock like” way. Then we can apply the transform to our UI object using SetRenderTransform. Every UI element (derived from IXRFrameworkElement) can be rotated! And using different subclasses of IXRTransform also moved, scaled, skewed and distorted in many ways. You can also concatenate multiple transforms and apply them at once suing a IXRTransformGroup object. The XAML engine uses vector graphics and object will not look “pixelated” when they are rotated or scaled. As usual you can download the code here: http://cid-9b7b0aefe3514dc5.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/Clock.zip If you read up to (down to?) this point you seem to be interested in Silverlight for Windows Embedded. • Single django instance with subdomains for each app in the django project

    - by jwesonga
    I have a django project (django+apache+mod_wsgi+nginx) with multiple apps, I'd like to map each app as a subdomain: project/ app1 (domain.com) app2 (sub1.domain.com) app3 (sub3.domain.com) I have a single .wsgi script serving the project, which is stored in a folder /apache. Below is my vhost file. I'm using a single vhost file instead of separate ones for each sub-domain: <VirtualHost *:8080> ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName www.domain.com ServerAlias domain.com DocumentRoot /home/path/to/app/ Alias /admin_media/ /usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/contrib/admin/media <Directory /home/path/to/wsgi/apache/> Order deny,allow Allow from all </Directory> LogLevel warn ErrorLog /home/path/to/logs/apache_error.log CustomLog /home/path/to/logs/apache_access.log combined WSGIDaemonProcess domain.com user=www-data group=www-data threads=25 WSGIProcessGroup domain.com WSGIScriptAlias / /home/path/to/apache/kcdf.wsgi </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:8081> ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName sub1.domain.com ServerAlias sub1.domain.com DocumentRoot /home/path/to/app Alias /admin_media/ /usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/contrib/admin/media <Directory /home/path/to/wsgi/apache/> Order deny,allow Allow from all </Directory> LogLevel warn ErrorLog /home/path/to/logs/apache_error.log CustomLog /home/path/to/logs/apache_access.log combined WSGIDaemonProcess sub1.domain.com user=www-data group=www-data threads=25 WSGIProcessGroup sub1.domain.com WSGIScriptAlias / /home/path/to/apache/kcdf.wsgi </VirtualHost> My Nginx configuration for the domain.com: server { listen 80; server_name domain.com; access_log off; error_log off; # proxy to Apache 2 and mod_wsgi location / { proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:8080/; proxy_redirect off; proxy_set_header Host $host; proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; proxy_max_temp_file_size 0; client_max_body_size 10m; client_body_buffer_size 128k; proxy_connect_timeout 90; proxy_send_timeout 90; proxy_read_timeout 90; proxy_buffer_size 4k; proxy_buffers 4 32k; proxy_busy_buffers_size 64k; proxy_temp_file_write_size 64k; } } Configuration for the sub.domain.com: server { listen 80; server_name sub.domain.com; access_log off; error_log off; # proxy to Apache 2 and mod_wsgi location / { proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:8081/; proxy_redirect off; proxy_set_header Host $host; proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; proxy_max_temp_file_size 0; client_max_body_size 10m; client_body_buffer_size 128k; proxy_connect_timeout 90; proxy_send_timeout 90; proxy_read_timeout 90; proxy_buffer_size 4k; proxy_buffers 4 32k; proxy_busy_buffers_size 64k; proxy_temp_file_write_size 64k; } } This set up doesn't seem to work, everything seems to point to the main domain. I've tried http://effbot.org/zone/django-multihost.htm which kind of worked but seems to have issues with loading my css,images,js files.

  • How to set up a VirtualHost on Amazon EC2 for phpmyadmin

    - by Oudin
Hi I'm currently working on setting up a VirtualHost on Amazon EC2 for accessing phpmyadmin so i can access it with test.example.com as oppose to it being widely available as it's default example.com/phpmyadmin. So far I've created a file "testfile" in /etc/apache2/sites-available/ with the code below and enabled it "a2ensite testfile" However I'm not getting the vhost to work <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName test.example.com ServerAlias test.example.com #DocumentRoot /usr/share/phpmyadmin DocumentRoot /home/user/public_html/folder RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !test.example.com RewriteRule (.*) [L] <Directory /home/user/public_html/folder> Options FollowSymLinks DirectoryIndex index.php AllowOverride None <IfModule mod_php5.c> AddType application/x-httpd-php .php php_flag magic_quotes_gpc Off php_flag track_vars On php_flag register_globals Off php_admin_flag allow_url_fopen Off php_value include_path . php_admin_value upload_tmp_dir /var/lib/phpmyadmin/tmp php_admin_value open_basedir /usr/share/phpmyadmin/:/etc/phpmyadmin/:/var/lib/phpmyadmin/ </IfModule> </Directory> # Authorize for setup <Directory /usr/share/phpmyadmin/setup> <IfModule mod_authn_file.c> AuthType Basic AuthName "phpMyAdmin Setup" AuthUserFile /etc/phpmyadmin/htpasswd.setup </IfModule> Require valid-user </Directory> # Disallow web access to directories that don't need it <Directory /usr/share/phpmyadmin/libraries> Order Deny,Allow Deny from All </Directory> <Directory /usr/share/phpmyadmin/setup/lib> Order Deny,Allow Deny from All </Directory> ErrorLog /home/user/public_html/folder/logs/error.log LogLevel warn CustomLog /home/user/public_html/folder/logs/access.log combined </VirtualHost> sudo ln -s /usr/share/phpmyadmin /home/user/public_html/folder The above line creates a link of the phpmyadmin in the public folder. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Note: example.com will be replaced with my official domain
