• How to align Button to the right, without being overlapped by TextView?

  Hello, I'm trying to get something like this: http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/552/layoutoy.png. I'm using this as a list item (technically as the group view of an ExpandableListView). Here's the XML file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="?android:attr/listPreferredItemHeight"> <TextView android:id="@+id/list_item_text" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:ellipsize="end" /> <Button android:id="@+id/list_item_button" android:text="Click me!" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_alignParentRight="true" android:layout_toRightOf="@id/list_item_text" /> </RelativeLayout> But this doesn't work. The Button doesn't wrap its contents, instead it uses all available horizontal space. The TextView does wrap its contents, but what I want it to do is to cut off when it overlaps the Button. In other words, I want all the buttons to be of the same width, regardless of the amount of text in the textviews. Is this at all possible?

• Why do encodeXxx methods in UIComponent accept FacesContext parameter?

  I haven't ever before created custom components in JSF so I've noticed only now that methods like encodeBegin(), encodeEnd() etc accept FacesContext parameter. FacesContext instance can usually be received with FacesContext.getCurrentInstance(). So, I wonder whether these methods have FacesContext parameter just for convenience or some different objects can be passed there (maybe from external resources..). If the latter is possible then could you give an example pls.

  In the yester Code Jam Qualification round http://code.google.com/codejam/contest/dashboard?c=433101#s=a&a=0 , there was a problem called Snapper Chain. From the contest analysis I came to know the problem requires bit twiddling stuff like extracting the rightmost N bits of an integer and checking if they all are 1. I saw a contestant's(Eireksten) code which performed the said operation like below: (((K&(1<<N)-1))==(1<<N)-1) I couldn't understand how this works. What is the use of -1 there in the comparison?. If somebody can explain this, it would be very much useful for us rookies. Also, Any tips on identifying this sort of problems would be much appreciated. I used a naive algorithm to solve this problem and ended up solving only the smaller data set.(It took heck of a time to compile the larger data set which is required to be submitted within 8 minutes.).   Are there any ways to get count of current unfinished tasks at Google Appengine development server? I need it for making my integration test. I found a way to get this when running it local (just in mem), as described at appengine docs. But when i'm running it as a standalone server, from maven, this doesn't work. Currently what displays in the simulator is just hte contents of the paint function, however the ObjectChoiceField is still selectable if one happens to click in the right location. I would like both the text contents and the paint function contents to appear.   Hi people, i need to write a program, that can redirect's http://localhost:8080 to en.wikipedia.org, it seems to be easy, but i have some problems(only with wikipedia with another sites works good). I make url to wikipedia: URL url = new URL("http", "en.wikipedia.org", 80, "/wiki"); than URLConnection, extract headers, and when i want connection.getInputStream(), i received message 404 Not Found. So i have tried some hack for host header, because in this way host header is localhost:8080, therefor i have tried to change host header to wikipedia, and it works, but after request in browser http://localhost:8080 wikipedia opens, but url in browser changes to en.wikipedia.org, but i want proceed with localhost :)

  Hi there, I'm refactoring a big piece of code atm where a long taking operation is executed in a servlet. Now sometimes I don't get a response after the operation has finished. (It has finished because it is printed into the logs) What I wish to achieve would some "fire and forget" behavior by the servlet. I would pass my params to the action and the servlet would immediately return a status (something like: the operation has started, check your logs for further info) Is this possible with servlet 2.5 spec? I think I could get such a behavior with JMS maybe any other solutions out there?

  Some phones only prompt the user for permission the first time a connection is made. Others pop up the permission prompt whenever the MIDlet attempts to make a HTTP connection! What are the options if we want to suppress the prompt? Can we sign the JAR using only one CA (Certificate Authority) and have it work on all devices? Do we have to pay for a signature on every release? Is it an option to create our own CA certificate and tell our customers to install it on there device? Alternatively, it seems that plain socket connections do not suffer so. Is there a free implementation of HTTP on top of TCP for J2ME?

• Would you take a paycut [closed]

  I make 90K doing JEE5 (it is open I can use any tech I want which is nice) but don't like what I am doing to because it is too hw related. I have an offer for 88K and a bonus that would be 10% (almost assured) that I would guess would be paid in the 4th quarter. It is a j2ee, supposed to be moving to jee5 and there are no hw dependencies (banking type work). I think I would be interested, but I have always been told you do not take a pay cut and don't move laterally (go to another job at the same pay). I have been on other interviews but this is the only one that has panned out. Also with the current job there is 401k match, but with the new one there is 401k also and a pension. What would you do?

  As you know, in Eclipse you can turn on "Unnecessary 'else' statement" check that will trigger on if-then-else with premature return. And, from my experience, there are two most possible situations when use such statement: 1) Pre-check: if (validate(arg1)) { return false; } doLotOfStuff(); 2) Post-check: doLotOfStuff(); if (condition) { return foo; } else { return bar; } In the second case, if the trigger is on, Eclipse will suggest you to change the code to: doLotOfStuff(); if (condition) { return foo; } return bar; However, I think that the return with else statement is more readable as it is like direct mapping of business logic. So I am curios if this "Unnecessary 'else' statement" code convention is widespread or else statement is more preferable?
