  • WPF performance for large number of elements on the screen

    Im currently trying to create a Scene in WPF where I have around 250 controls on my screen and the user can Pan and Zoom in and out of these controls using the mouse. I have run the WPF Performance Suite tools on the application when there are a large number of these controls on the screen (i.e. when the user has zoomed right out) the FPS drops down to around 15 which is not very good. I have seen other SO questions about this and people say to do custom drawing, but I dont really see how that make sense when you have to zoom and pan like I do.     I have a gridview that includes dynamically created dropdownlist. When changing the dropdown values and doing a mass update on the grid (btnUpdate.click), I have to create the controls in the page init so they will be available to the viewstate. However, I have several other buttons that also cause a postback and I don't want to create the controls in the page init, but rather later in the button click events. How can I tell which control fired the postback while in page_init? __EVENTTARGET = "" and request.params("btnUpdate") is nothing

  • How can I make a child window topmost?

    Hi, I have a parent form, with some child windows (not forms - just windows, for example label controls) inside it. Under certain circumstances, I want one of those child windows to be drawn "above" the others, to display a message over the entire main form. I've tried setting HWND_TOPMOST and HWND_TOP on the child windows, but it doesn't seem to have any effect at all. Am I doing something wrong, or do HWND_TOPMOST and HWND_TOP only work on forms, as opposed to controls within forms? Thanks.

    using visual studio 2008 Asp.net HTML Designer Howdy, Silly question but im using the HTML desinger in vs2008 to produce a ASP.net webform page, and i cant seem to find a way to select/group multiple controls with the mouse and move them all about the page in one group to keep them all aligned. I can select multiple controls with cntrl/click combo, and use the align options, but once they are selected i cannot move them aroound the webform as a group any advice appreciated

Since an inner Control is a Panel, I'd like to use it as container at design time. But it isn't...     I have one class that controls one window, and another class that controls a different window in the same xib, however, the second window never displays what it should. In the first class I alloc and init the second class, then pass some information to it. In the second class it displays that data in the table view. Yes, in the .xib I have all the connections set up correctly, I've quadruple checked. Also the code is correct, same with the connections, I've quadruple checked.

    I'm working on an ASP.NET webapp using the MVP pattern, and as I'm organizing my files I'm wondering - are there conventions on folders within projects and how they relate to namespaces? I have a bunch of controls and a bunch of pages, and I was going to throw them into Controls and Pages folders with subfolders, but I didn't know if it was bad form to do this if I wasn't also going to seperate them out into namespaces.     I'm using the TTThumbsViewController section of the three20 framework, and I have the status bar hidden throughout my application. When the user views the full size image, taps the screen(hiding the controls), when they tap again the controls reappear but the status bar is there too. I've searched through the whole library and been unable to isolate the section where this is happening. I'd love it if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks, BB

But the items in the this.Controls collection are not of type Control (they are Object). I can't seem to remember the safe way to cast this to call hide if it is really of type Control and do nothing otherwise. (I am a transplanted delphi programmer and I keep thinking something like control is Control.)

    I'm building a webpage that is composed of several controls, and trying to come up with an effective somewhat generic client side sibling control communication model. One of the controls is the menu control. Whenever an item is clicked in here I wanted to expose a custom client side event that other controls can subscribe to, so that I can achieve a loosely coupled sibling control communication model. To that end I've created a simple Javascript event collection class (code below) that acts as like a hub for control event registration and event subscription.   • How do I measure the size of a TextBlock in WPF before it is rendered?

    I have a WPF DataTemplate with two TextBlock controls (stacked) and then some other elements underneath. Due to some complicated layout code, I need to know the height of the two TextBlock elements so that I can draw some fancy connector lines, and line up other controls, etc. If I know the text that's going into the TextBlocks, and I know the font, etc., is there some way I can compute or measure the height of these TextBlocks without actually rendering them?
