      I have been collecting a poll to almost any developer I find on my way as well as business owners. I have been looking to see what a small development shop, medium size company and a big corporate considers when providing development computers to their software developers. This has being very intriguing to me. In my career I found different software developers, the ones that work always with one product and one framework, as well as the one that keeps a few frameworks and projects.     In order to detect user absence GetLastInputInfo() can be used. I want to make GetLastInputInfo() return that I've just used keyboard/mouse all the time - as I've been actively using the computer so that whoever relies on GetLastInputInfo() thinks I'm actively using the computer. Can I use any Windows API functions to achieve that?

  • If i write in assembly or machine language, will the program work on any computer with a compatible processor?

    Basically, i'm wanting to know if i can use either machine or assembly language to write a program that will work on any computer with an x86 processor, despite differences in operating systems. For example, you run a program and no matter what computer it's on, it'll display "Hello, World!" I know it's a little crazy to want to know either of these to languages, but i figure it's an incredible thing to learn, so why not?

    I keep getting this irritating warning when copying files over the network: These files might be harmful to your computer Your internet security settings suggest that one or more files may be harmful. Do you want to use it anyway? I am copying a file from \\192.168.0.197\c$ (home server) to my local machine which is at \\192.168.0.4. How do I turn off this meaningless "warning"?

  • Flash CS3 -- tahoma text loading differently than on client's computer.

    A client has sent me a Flash CS3 website template she was working on. I'm supposed to do some work on it. When I load it, it displays incorrectly. The body type appears incorrectly. It's different then what it appears on her computer. Causing all the body text to overlap each other. She has Windows Vista with Flash CS3. I'm using Windows XP Professional with Flash CS4. When I open the file, it says that 'tahoma' font is missing on my computer. And asks me to select a replacement. Obviously, I have Tahoma on my computer -- everyone does. I even got her to send her version of Tahoma to me from her Windows Font Folder. When I tried to install it, it says "font already installed". So, I pointed it to my Tahoma font as a replacement. This could be the problem. But why does it not recognize my version of tahoma? Anyone know what's going on, or how I can fix it? I'm supposed to be working on this website, but can't proceed because I might be wasting time if it doesn't match up.

Poor asset tracking has left me with a couple of un-locatable machines and I would like to know who used them last. Thanks Edit: Just to clarify, I can't find the machines physically and it doesn't look like its been powered on for a while, that's why I want to know who had them last so I can query them.

  • Login to a Windows 7 Computer with disabled Administrator account.

    I just built a Windows 7 Image using sysprep and a custom answer file that's supposed to attach to our domain. However, it did not attach to the domain and so I have a computer that has been automatically setup via unattend.xml and is sitting at a login screen; with no active users (Administrator account says it is disabled). Is there a way I can activate the Administrator account and rescue this machine or do I have to rebuild it from scratch?
