  I want to open a dialog on the IPhone so a user can grant my application permission to post on a Facebook page that the user administers. Following the docs, I can grant permissions for the user's stream and I can even post on a page that he is a fan of. However, the post on the page is listed as from the username, not on behalf of the page itself, even though he is an administrator of the page. According to the Prompting for Permissions section at: http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Authorization_and_Authentication_for_Desktop_Applications I should be able to create a prompt on the IPhone for granting permission to publish_stream on a Facebook page that he administers. The sample url they give for a web "popup" dialog is: http://www.facebook.com/connect/prompt_permissions.php?api_key=YOURAPIKEY&v=1.0&next=http://www.facebook.com/connect/login_success.html?xxRESULTTOKENxx&display=popup&ext_perm=read_stream,publish_stream&enable_profile_selector=1&profile_selector_ids=1234%2C5454 This works as expected and a drop down of the pages is displayed. However, since my application is on the IPhone, I change the display=popup to display=touch. This does not seem to work and I've tried fiddling with the parameters several ways but the drop down never comes up. Anyone find a way around this? The popup option doesn't seem to work since I get an error trying to display it.

  I'm having an issue connecting to Facebook through the Javascript Client Library in Adobe AIR. It works fine in the browser but in Adobe AIR it seems to not be able to find the Facebook functions.   Programming has always interested me, but after learning some of the basics of Java(I'm talking high school level), I don't really know what to do from there. I want to be able to apply what I learned in some way, whether it be a volunteer project or something, but I probably don't know enough programming. Is it possible for a novice Java programmer to be useful in some way whatsoever. I want to do this because I feel like I could learn more about programming by helping people in theirs, but I'm not sure if I'm even able to this though. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can contribute to other people's project in some way or how to apply it in some way?

• How to make game menu Java

  I've been searching all over for how to make a game menu, but I haven't found anything useful. I have a very simple Pong like game (source-code here), and I want to add a main menu to it. This wouldn't be too much of a problem if I was making a standalone with JFrame instead of an Applet, but I want this to be available on the web (not downloaded). I might have been able to do some of it myself, except for the fact that it would mean having a very heavy main class (in this case the GNP.java file). So I was thinking, is there a way to basically have a Java Applet and have it use a JFrame and how? and if not, what could I do? Thanks!

• Java on Ubuntu server 12.04?

  I'm a little confused at the moment. My back story in short, is that I'm trying to set up a Minecraft server on an Ubuntu server I've recently set up, obviously to do this I needed Java, but after googling for a short while I wasn't entirely sure whether it is possible (or legal?) to do so in Ubuntu 12.04 due to licensing type issues - so I installed open JDK instead which appears not to work properly with the Minecraft server software (I half expected this) I'm now considering uninstalling open JDK and instead trying to get proper Java on there instead, my question is, is this possible? Is it Legal? And if so how do I go about doing it? Because I'm finding it very difficult to find any instructions on how to do so for 12.04 . . .

  I'm an electrical engineering student ( Power, control & instrumentation). 2 months ago I started learning C, and I found programming something really enjoyable and I'd like to continue learning C and few other programming languages along with my electrical engineering degree. So my university is offering an extensive Java Oracle course for 7 days (like 5-6 hours a day) for a really decent price, do you think as an electrical engineer this would help me in my future career? What are the benefits of learning Java for an electrical engineer of my specialization? Do you think it's a good idea for someone in my case to take such an extensive course? I'm hardworker and I really enjoy these things, so I don't think that would be a problem for me.

  this is my first question I've posted. I've used this site to look at other questions to help with similar problems I've had. After some cursory looking I couldn't find quite the answer I was looking for so I decided to finally succumb and create an account. I am fairly new to java, only a few weeks into my first class. Anyway, my project is to create a program which takes any amount of students and their grades, and then assign them a letter grade. The catch is, however, that it is on a sort of curve and the other grades' letter are dependent on the the highest. Anything equal to or 10 points below the best grade is an a, anything 11-20 points below is a b, and so on. I am to use an array, but I get this error when ran "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException." I will go ahead and post my code down below. • Logging out of Facebook invalidates offline_access token

  I'm getting an offline access token like this: https://graph.facebook.com/oauth/access_token?scope=offline_access&client_id=MYCLIENTID&redirect_uri=MYREDIRECTURI&client_secret=MYSECRET&code=MYCODE obviously the MYCLIENTID and stuff have been changed for the sake of this post. Anyway, as soon as the user logs out of facebook, the key seems to no longer be valid. Am I not requesting offline_access properly (there's still an "expires" value on it, should there be if it is actually getting offline access), or is that just how it works? If it's the latter, how can I get a key that will persist, regardless of if the user logs out of facebook? I'm sure this is possible, because Tweetdeck can still write to Facebook, even though I'm currently logged out.

• How to control the "flow" of an ASP.NET MVC (3.0) web app that relies on Facebook membership, with Facebook C# SDK?

  I want to totally remove the standard ASP.NET membership system and use Facebook only for my web app's membership. Note, this is not a Facebook canvas app question. Typically, in an ASP.NET app you have some key properties & methods to control the "flow" of an app. Notably: Request.IsAuthenticated, [Authorize] (in MVC apps), Membership.GetUser() and Roles.IsUserInRole(), among others. It looks like [FacebookAuthorize] is equivalent to [Authorize]. Also, there's some standard work I do across all controllers in my site. So I built a BaseController that overrides OnActionExecuting(FilterContext). Typically, I populate ViewData with the user's profile within this action. Would performance suffer if I made a call to fbApp.Get("me") in this action? I use the Facebook Javascript SDK to do registration, which is nice and easy. But that's all client-side, and I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around when to use client-side facebook calls versus server-side. There will be a point when I need to grab the user's facebook uid and store it in a "profile" table along with a few other bits of data. That would probably be best handled on the return url from the registration plugin... correct? On a side note, what data is returned from fbApp.Get("me")?

  I got into Minecraft 2 months ago and just today I switched to Ubuntu. I downloaded Java from the special script (http://www.duinsoft.nl/packages.php?t=en) and after I verified it said it was installed. So I downloaded the Minecraft.jar file and ran it through the Java runtime. It updated like the launcher should... ... And it froze. Went black, didn't even get to the Mojang screen. Please help me! Minecraft is my favorite game and I can't stand to lose it.

  Hello, I have set a canvas page, and now, my facebook app page goes to a horrible place: http://apps.facebook.com/hificorder/?ref=ts whereas it is supposed to go to: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=123018831077733 So, set the canvas page to the latter link...right? WRONG....when you do so, it causes an error. Set the canvas page to nothing??? FB does not allow. What do I do??? FYI, when you search for "HiFiCorder" in the normal facebook search, the canvas page is what comes up...this is horrible, please help.

But in my team we are facing a concrete problem: We have a business layer offering a service called "createObject", this service makes a lot of operation which can result to problem. E.g: parentObjectDontExist, objectAlreadyExist, dontHaveAuthorizationToCreate, operationFailed... and we want the UI using this service to display different information messages depending which error occurred. In old java dev, we should have create all signed exception type and throw it in createObject. As Clean code says, it is forbidden to use Exception for business logic AND signed exceptions are evil... Why not...But i don't know how to solved this problem and i don't want to use return code. For example, the logging sybsystem: Option 1: All in one package, named to sort nicely Log - static accessor LogMonitor - interface for log minotor LogMonitorBase - abstract class LogMonitorStdout - print log to console LogWriter - interface for file logger LogWriterSimple - log writer with just one log file LogWriterArchiving - log writer that handles old log files Option 2: Subpackages for Monitors and Writers, with better names Log monitors/LogMonitor monitors/BaseMonitor monitors/StdoutMonitor writers/LogWriter writers/SimpleLog writers/ArchivingLog The second maybe looks better, but perhaps it's not so practical from the java point of view (two extra packages). What do you suggest as the best practice here? A lot in one package, grouped by naming prefixes, or a lot of subpackages with better names?

• New to Maven-- Creating Java EE Projects

  Greetings-- I've been developing Java EE web apps with Eclipse for about a year. My employer doesn't use Maven, but the more I read about it, the more convinced I am that Maven + Hudson will be greatly beneficial for us. First, though, I have to become comfortable with those technologies in my spare time, so that I can create a proof-of-concept. Right now, I'm still a Maven newbie. Is there a set of best practices for creating Java EE web apps with Maven? For example, I could create a project with a basic archetype and then add all of the necessary JARs by putting dependencies in the POM for the servlet container, EJB, EclipseLink, etc... That might work, but it might not be the best way to do it. I'd greatly appreciate any guidance that you could provide on this topic. Thank you very much!

• CSRF verification failed, but only with Facebook App

  I am creating a Facebook App using Django. When I access my webpage directly then it works fine. I have then added this webpage as the Facebook canvas URL, so that users are directed to this page when they go to the App. Now, when I enter the App, I get the "CSRF verification failed" error. I think it's because facebook is doing a POST, but without the CSRF token. However, I cannot control how Facebook redirects to my App. Anyone know how to deal with this?   I'm trying to write a Java formula based on this tutorial: 2-D elastic collisions without Trigonometry. I am in the section "Elastic Collisions in 2 Dimensions". In step 1, it mentions "Next, find the unit vector of n, which we will call un. This is done by dividing by the magnitude of n". My below code represents the normal vector of 2 objects (I'm using a simple array to represent the normal vector), but I am not really sure what the tutorial means by dividing the magnitude of n to get the un. int[] normal = new int[2]; normal[0] = ball2.x - ball1.x; normal[1] = ball2.y - ball1.y; Can anyone please explain what un is, and how I can calculate it with my array in Java?
