  • Multiple Java Versions

    - by user327486
There are few applications which use Java 1.6.2x , few 1.7.1X and other uses 1.7.4X versions. Since we decided to push all three applications to the user .How to make the applications to use its particular version. There are few web based apps and enterprise apps which requires only a specific set of java versions which is creating issues. Os : Win 7 IE - ver 8 Work around In Progress : Trying to apply a batch file for each app to set the require java version path , but its not the required solution. Do we have any generic way which automatically maps to its required java version , instead of running batch file for each application. Looking forward your valuable suggestions.

  • Java web app deployment and ControlTier adoption

    - by Ran
I've been searching for a configuration and deployment manager tool for my java-linux based web service and have been looking mainly at ControlTier (http://controltier.org). We operate at a medium scale (100's of hosts, multi-DC, dozens of services). There seem to be be plenty of lower level system admin tools such as chef, puppet, cfengine, bcfg2 and more and my understanding and the reason I'm calling them "low level" is that they are great for system level administration tasks such as setting up a mount, file permissions, users etc but aren't designed, for example for java deployments, which usually come with a build process and special java semantics. In many cases any tool can be used to do anything but if it was not designed for the task it can get uncomfortable. OTOH control-tier seem to have been designed just for that - java application deployments, at least that's what all the tutorials on their site demonstrate but here's the problem - The wiki at http://controltier.org/wiki/ is pretty good and stuffed with examples and the company behind the open source CT product is very responsive (pushy...) however, I'm yet to have seen any material from 3rd party users on the net. No success stories, no detailed blog posts, no best practices, no cheat sheets, not even hate letters, nothing. This plays badly for DTO solutions, CT's sponsor for two reasons, one is that it makes me suspicious what's the reason for the poor adoption? and second, what do I do if I get stuck and there's no help page on CT's wiki page and the mailing list is too slow to answer. I'm stuck with a "free" product that a consultancy company is pushing. So my question here - I'd be interested in hearing if anyone has had real world experience with CT for java based web app deployments and if he'd thumb up the product? Any other comments that may enlighten me are welcome of course...

  • Running Java 32bit and 64bit on same computer

    - by Joris Meys
I ran into a rather puzzling problem, trying to install Vuze 4.2.0.2 on my Windows 7. I have a Java 6 JDK 64bit, but Vuze complains that it can't find a correct 32bit JRE. Yet, as far as I know it shouldn't matter which Java is installed on the computer. (See also these answers). Now I was wondering : if it makes sense running a 32bit and a 64bit Java on the same machine, Whether that is possible, and if so what I should pay attention to in order to make sure that the correct Java is found. Thank you in advance PS : I have my reasons no to use the latest Vuze, so please don't tell me to update Vuze. I know.

  • Eclipse on Ubuntu: Rectangles instead of Strings and some Java methods and classes

    - by Claus Hausberger
after upgrading from Ubuntu 9.04. to 11.04 (new installation), I have weird problems with the Eclipse editor. With the Eclipse PyDev plugin, whenever I typ single quoted strings like 'bla', they appear as rectangles (both the quotes as well as the string). First I thought this was a problem with the PyDev plugin, but it also happens with Java and Scala Plugins. With Java, it happens, for example, when typing System.out.println("bla") and then "out" is shown as rectangles only. Weird is that for about half a second I see "System.out.println" and then the editor changes it to System.[][][].println (not really [] (here I used two brackets), it is shown as rectangles). This is very weird. I've never had this before with any Ubuntu, Java or Eclipse version. Currently, I use: Ubuntu 11.04. Eclipse 3.6 Java 1.6.0_25 The latest plugins for Python (2.1) and Scala (beta 5) where used. Eclipse and Ubuntu Terminal is set to UTF-8. The problem also happens when using KDE instead of Gnome. I doubt is has anything to do with Java as I use the same versions on older Ubuntu installations (10.04, 9.10, etc) at work. It does not happen with Netbeans. But I saw once error dialog message from the Update Manager where there were some rectangles in the error widget. Maybe this is the same problem Any ideas what could be wrong here and how to fix this? Eclipse is unusable but I need this for work and also for Scala and Python (the Eclipse plugins for those are very good now). Claus

  • JavaApplicationStub Compatibility with all java versions

    - by neelamsharma
Hi, I am running a Java application on Mac Leopard & on Mac Mini. My Mac Mini upgraded, it is using Java Version 1.6.0_17 and Mac Leopard have version 1.5.0_13. To run that application on Mac Mini I have to copy JavaApplicationStub from path -"/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Resources/MacOS/JavaApplicationStub" to my application "Content/Resources/Java". But this application successfully run on Mac Leopard. If I do not copy stub at Mac Mini then I am unable to launch application using app by double click, it shows icon for few second then disappears, so in that case I have to run application with its jar. I want that without copying explicitly JavaApplicationStub, how can I run app with all versions of java. If this possible then what changes I have to made? The info.plist file contain JVMVersion is 1.4+. Thanks!

  • Go back to 32-bit Java in OS X so I can use Chrome

    - by Mac Kris
Recently Apple released a Java update. I mindlessly downloaded and installed it, thinking it must be good (I know that was stupid on my part). Now chrome doesn't work where sites require Java support. In terminal, java -version shows I have the 64bit version installed. I know Chrome does not support 64bit Java. I'd like to go back to the last version that worked for me, the 32-bit version. I don't want to use Safari or Firefox. I'd like Chrome to work. I have too much invested in customizing it to work with another browser.

  • How to Install Apache Solr / Java on CentOS?

    - by geerlingguy
I've seen only one or two tutorials for installing Solr, and particularly Java, on a CentOS machine, and they seem to be overly complex; heck, I can't quite figure out which version of Java (it seems there are many) to install... I'm not a full time sysadmin, so I would like to know what Java version/package I would need to use, and if there's a good tutorial with relatively easy to follow steps for installation. I'm going to try to get Solr working with some Drupal sites, and that part of the equation doesn't seem as hard as the Java side...

  • Problem uninstalling and installing Java on new pc running Windows 7 64 bit os

    - by Brian Gerrin
I have a new Dell Studio XPS running Windows 7 64 bit os. I am attending online classes which require IE 8 and Java version 6 build 20. The pc came with IE 8 32 bit and Java 6 build 21 already installed. I tried to uninstall Java using add and remove programs but after about 45 minutes of "Preparing to remove application" I got an error refering to a missing dll file and the uninstall failed. I used a third party program to remove Java and downloaded Java 6 build 20. My problem is when I try to install it I get the box telling me "Installing program ... this may take a few minutes" however after 30 to 45 minutes nothing has happend and there is no indication in the progress bar that anything is happening then all of a sudden the program bar is full and the program is supposedly installed. When I try to run it however it doesn't work. Someone help please! I can't get access to my classwork with out this! Thanks

  • Compiling/executing Java on Sublime Text 2 works fine except that it cannot read user input

    - by meiryo
I am a student learning Java and I want to compile and run some simple Java on ST2. Also Eclipse is very slow on my laptop. Here is my JavaC.sublime-build file so far: { "cmd": ["sublimejavaexec.bat", "$file"], "file_regex": "^(...*?):([0-9]*):?([0-9]*)", "selector": "source.java" } So far it can run code that does not require user input. However when I have something that uses the Java input scanner it either skips through or generates an error. Can anyone suggest a solution such as a plug-in or if ST2 actually has this kind of feature on its console? Thanks.

  • How can I persist certificates in Java's cacerts?

    - by Alan Spark
We need to have a certificate in Java's cacerts keystore for one of our servers that is authenticated by LDAP. We are using Ubuntu server. We have successfully done this by updating the cacerts file in /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk-amd64/jre/lib/security but occasionally a Java update is installed and the cacerts file seems to be getting replaced by a default one that doesn't contain our changes. This doesn't happen very often but it is becoming a bit of a pain when it does happen. Is there a better way of adding things to cacerts so that they don't get lost when a Java update happens? Thanks, Alan

  • Cannot install Java 7 update 9 32-bit on Win 7 64

    - by J. Parrino
As there were several versons of Java on my laptop, I decided to uninstall them all and reinstall only the current version. I uninstalled all 64-bit and 32-bit versions using Revo Uninstaller. After dowloading the current versions, when attempting to install them, I get a message that both the 64-bit and 32-bit versions cannot be installed as they are already installed. Both the Windows 7 Programs and Features and Revo show no Java installed at al. I then tried the Microsoft Fixit for install and uninstall issues (KB 2438651). I was then able to install the 64-bit version, but continued to have the issue with the 32-bit version. I ran CCleaner, Glary Utilities and Auslogics Registry Cleaner, and noticed Java keys that were to be uninstalled. After cleaning the registry, I attemped to install the 32-bit version of Java once more, to no avail. Any suggestions on how to rectify this problem? Thank you for any guidance you can provide.

  • T-SQL select where and group by date

    - by bconlon
T-SQL has never been my favorite language, but I need to use it on a fairly regular basis and every time I seem to Google the same things. So if I add it here, it might help others with the same issues, but it will also save me time later as I will know where to look for the answers!! 1. How do I SELECT FROM WHERE to filter on a DateTime column? As it happens this is easy but I always forget. You just put the DATE value in single quotes and in standard format: SELECT StartDate FROM Customer WHERE StartDate >= '2011-01-01' ORDER BY StartDate 2. How do I then GROUP BY and get a count by StartDate? Bit trickier, but you can use the built in DATEADD and DATEDIFF to set the TIME part to midnight, allowing the GROUP BY to have a consistent value to work on: SELECT DATEADD (d, DATEDIFF(d, 0, StartDate),0) [Customer Creation Date], COUNT(*) [Number Of New Customers] FROM Customer WHERE StartDate >= '2011-01-01' GROUP BY DATEADD(d, DATEDIFF(d, 0, StartDate),0) ORDER BY [Customer Creation Date] Note: [Customer Creation Date] and [Number Of New Customers] column alias just provide more readable column headers. 3. Finally, how can you format the DATETIME to only show the DATE part (after all the TIME part is now always midnight)? The built in CONVERT function allows you to convert the DATETIME to a CHAR array using a specific format. The format is a bit arbitrary and needs looking up, but 101 is the U.S. standard mm/dd/yyyy, and 103 is the U.K. standard dd/mm/yyyy. SELECT CONVERT(CHAR(10), DATEADD(d, DATEDIFF(d, 0, StartDate),0), 103) [Customer Creation Date], COUNT(*) [Number Of New Customers] FROM Customer WHERE StartDate >= '2011-01-01' GROUP BY DATEADD(d, DATEDIFF(d, 0, StartDate),0) ORDER BY [Customer Creation Date]  #

  • Implement OAuth in Java

    - by phineas
I made an an attempt to implement OAuth for my programming idea in Java, but I failed miserably. I don't know why, but my code doesn't work. Every time I run my program, an IOException is thrown with the reason "java.io.IOException: Server returned HTTP response code: 401" (401 means Unauthorized). I had a close look at the docs, but I really don't understand why it doesn't work. My OAuth provider I wanted to use is twitter, where I've registered my app, too. How would I create CellRenderers to display it like this. table.getColumnModel().getColumn(1).setCellRenderer(new DateRenderer()); I also want to add the whole row to be painted in red when the date is later then the current date. And then another column that holds a JButton to open up another screen with the corresponding Appointment as parameter.

  • JAVA_OPTS -XX:+PrintGCDetails affect on performance?

    - by brad
Does anyone know if the PrintGCDetails affects java performance much? I've been monitoring our java garbage collecting on a staging server with the same setup as the production server. I assumed it was safe to say that I shouldn't have this enabled on production but I don't know if there's really any affect on performance.

  • java.sql.SQLException: Parameter number X is not an OUT parameter

    - by Frederik
    Hi guys, I'm struggling with getting the result OUT variable from a MySQL stored procedure. I get the following error: java.sql.SQLException: Parameter number 3 is not an OUT parameter The stored procedure looks like this: CREATE DEFINER=`cv_admin`@`localhost` PROCEDURE `CheckGameEligibility`( IN gID INT(10), IN uID INT(10), OUT result TINYINT(1) ) BEGIN # Do lots of stuff, then eventually: SET result = 1; END My java function takes an array of strings* and creates the CallableStatement object dynamically: public static int callAndReturnResult( String sql , String[] values ) { int out = 0 ; try { // construct the SQL. Creates: CheckGameEligibility(?, ?, ?) sql += "(" ; for( int i = 0 ; i < values.length ; i++ ) { sql += "?, " ; } sql += "?)" ; System.out.println( "callAndReturnResult("+sql+"): constructed SQL: " + sql ); // Then the statement CallableStatement cstmt = DB.prepareCall( sql ); for( int i = 0 ; i < values.length ; i++ ) { System.out.println( " " + (i+1) + ": " + values[ i ] ) ; cstmt.setString(i+1, values[ i ] ); } System.out.println( " " + (values.length+1) + ": ? (OUT)" ) ; cstmt.registerOutParameter( values.length + 1 , Types.TINYINT ); cstmt.execute(); out = cstmt.getInt( values.length ); cstmt.close(); } catch( Exception e ) { System.out.println( "*** db trouble: callAndReturnResult(" + sql + " failed: " + e ); e.printStackTrace() ; } return out ; } *) I suppose I should be using an int array instead of a string array, but it doesn't seem to be what the error message was about. Anyway, here's the output it generates: callAndReturnResult(CheckGameEligibility(?, ?, ?)): constructed SQL: CheckGameEligibility(?, ?, ?) 1: 57 2: 29 3: ? (OUT) *** db trouble: callAndReturnResult(CheckGameEligibility(?, ?, ?) failed: java.sql.SQLException: Parameter number 3 is not an OUT parameter at com.mysql.jdbc.SQLError.createSQLException(SQLError.java:1075) at com.mysql.jdbc.SQLError.createSQLException(SQLError.java:989) at com.mysql.jdbc.SQLError.createSQLException(SQLError.java:984) at com.mysql.jdbc.SQLError.createSQLException(SQLError.java:929) at com.mysql.jdbc.CallableStatement.checkIsOutputParam(CallableStatement.java:692) at com.mysql.jdbc.CallableStatement.registerOutParameter(CallableStatement.java:1847) at org.apache.commons.dbcp.DelegatingCallableStatement.registerOutParameter(DelegatingCallabl>eStatement.java:92) at Tools.callAndReturnResult(Tools.java:156) Any ideas what might be the problem? :) Thanks in advance!

  • Java: Detecting image format, resize (scale) and save as JPEG

    - by BoDiE2003
    This is the code I have, it actually works, not perfectly but it does, the problem is that the resized thumbnails are not pasting on the white Drawn rectangle, breaking the images aspect ratio, here is the code, could someone suggest me a fix for it, please? Thank you import java.awt.Color; import java.awt.Graphics2D; import java.awt.Image; import java.awt.RenderingHints; import java.awt.geom.Rectangle2D; import java.awt.image.BufferedImage; import java.io.BufferedInputStream; import java.io.ByteArrayInputStream; import java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.InputStream; import javax.imageio.ImageIO; import org.apache.commons.logging.Log; import org.apache.commons.logging.LogFactory; public class ImageScalerImageIoImpl implements ImageScaler { private static final String OUTPUT_FORMAT_ID = "jpeg"; // Re-scaling image public byte[] scaleImage(byte[] originalImage, int targetWidth, int targetHeight) { try { InputStream imageStream = new BufferedInputStream( new ByteArrayInputStream(originalImage)); Image image = (Image) ImageIO.read(imageStream); int thumbWidth = targetWidth; int thumbHeight = targetHeight; // Make sure the aspect ratio is maintained, so the image is not skewed double thumbRatio = (double)thumbWidth / (double)thumbHeight; int imageWidth = image.getWidth(null); int imageHeight = image.getHeight(null); double imageRatio = (double)imageWidth / (double)imageHeight; if (thumbRatio < imageRatio) { thumbHeight = (int)(thumbWidth / imageRatio); } else { thumbWidth = (int)(thumbHeight * imageRatio); } // Draw the scaled image BufferedImage thumbImage = new BufferedImage(thumbWidth, thumbHeight, BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB); System.out.println("Thumb width Buffered: " + thumbWidth + " || Thumb height Buffered: " + thumbHeight); Graphics2D graphics2D = thumbImage.createGraphics(); // Use of BILNEAR filtering to enable smooth scaling graphics2D.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_INTERPOLATION, RenderingHints.VALUE_INTERPOLATION_BILINEAR); // graphics2D.drawImage(image, 0, 0, thumbWidth, thumbHeight, null); // White Background graphics2D.setPaint(Color.WHITE); graphics2D.fill(new Rectangle2D.Double(0, 0, targetWidth, targetHeight)); graphics2D.fillRect(0, 0, targetWidth, targetHeight); System.out.println("Target width: " + targetWidth + " || Target height: " + targetHeight); // insert the resized thumbnail between X and Y of the image graphics2D.drawImage(image, 0, 0, thumbWidth, thumbHeight, null); System.out.println("Thumb width: " + thumbWidth + " || Thumb height: " + thumbHeight); // Write the scaled image to the outputstream ByteArrayOutputStream out = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); ImageIO.write(thumbImage, OUTPUT_FORMAT_ID, out); return out.toByteArray(); } catch (IOException ioe) { throw new ImageResizingException(ioe); } } }
