I use VMWare Fusion on Mac OSX and backup my system with Time Machine. Now I read, that this will not backup my virtual machine with usable results. What are my possibilities to back up my virtual machine?
Is there an emulator that would enable me to test the appearance of an email as it is being read on a smartphone (without specifying the phone type)? What I would like to be able to do, is to send an email to this emulator, and then scroll down through the email using the emulator.
Ive searched online, and any emulators I found are for testing software rather than exploring the visual appearance of email.
I'm using Mac OSX - thanks in advance.
How can I easily import all addresses in an email to my address book in Entourage, including the from and CC fields?
This is for a friend and she uses a Mac.
I'm thinking of getting the Dell UltraSharp U2311H monitor which apparently comes with a DisplayPort. (I used the word "apparently" because I find DisplayPort support a little bit too good to be true, coming from Dell. But great news nonetheless if it's really true)
I plan to connect it to a Mac Book Pro (2010) via a mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable. Has anyone tried this setup? Does it work? Thanks.
Hi,
When I ran the uptime on my MacBookPro machine I got the following result:
Last login: Thu Jun 3 14:43:40 on ttys000
Osama-Gamal-MBP-2:~ iOsama$ uptime
14:49 up 7 days, 20:10, 2 users, load averages: 0.29 0.24 0.24
Why it lists that there are two users? is it normal? and who is the other user, is it the root user or what?
PS: I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.3
Does anyone knows if it is possible to have more than 16 desktop "spaces" with Mac OS X Snow Leopard?
I know that it does not seem possible at all from the System Preferences settings, but I was wondering if there exists some software tools that would enable one to use more Spaces, say 20-25.
Thanks for the help.
I've recently switched to a Mac and want to improve my workflow a bit. I often need to run scripts using the terminal that are in several different folders.
How do I create something like Windows shortcuts that launches the Terminal app with it's initial working directory set to a particular folder?
After googling for some Mac OS X terminal shortcuts, I wanted to find how can I go back characters on a line on the terminal or words or similar. I found ALT + B but it does not work.
Do you know some other shortcuts, or how can I customize them or links to cheat sheets?
I am looking for a application under Mac OS X that would have most of Outlook (Windows) functionnalities, mainly mail (including rules and tagging), calendar, contacts and Echange 2007+ integration (not using pop or imap)...
Anybody got that? I don't want to have to wait for Outlook 2011 which is rumored to arrived... in 2011!
Thanks.
I have created a 3-fold brochure in Mac iWork - Pages.
If I print the brochure then I can 3-fold it and everything is fine.
But if I want to export as PDF then I get a 2-A4 size pages, and this distorts the user the order of the pages, I would like to export each layout as a separate page.
The 'Layout Break' option is diabled and I don't know how to enable it?
Any ideas? Thanks.
I'm looking for a piece of software or a script that will take my iTunes library and give me an output (either as HTML or PDF) of simply a list of all the albums I have, preferably as Artist - Album format. Working with iTunes 9 on a Mac.
So I'm a programmer and I run my own web development company. In the past I have been able to get away with just doing some simple number crunching at the end of each year to do my taxes, but my company has grown substantially over the last year, and now that I am sitting down to do my taxes it has become an absolute nightmare because none of my information is organized at all. I want to be abel to easily keep track of my monthly and yearly financial data for my company (I use a Mac), any suggestions?
I use SweetFM on my Mac (running OS X Leopard) to play (and export) last.fm music. But I find it annoying I have to look at the station on the website (in Safari 4) and enter it in manually in SweetFM. How can I make it so the little "play" buttons () will open in SweetFM instead of in Safari?
When I create a new image, fill it with a single color, and save it as *.png or *.jpeg, it gets a slightly wrong color. When I save it as *.gif, the color is correct.
Does this have something to do with a color profile? How can I turn it off?
(Gimp 2.6.7 on Mac)
BTW, when I use "Digital Color Meter" to check the color in the GIMP window, I also get a wrong value - but that value is again a little bit different.
Hi
I need to control a Windows 7 PC via VNC from a Mac in an office LAN. Since the IPs are dynamically assigned, I'd like the PC to appear in my "Places" and in the automatically detected nearby servers in VNC client I'm using -- both of which require the PC to advertise its VNC server via Samba (right?).
I tried installing ultravnc, which works when I access it directly by IP, but it doesn't seem to advertise itself in the network.
Any ideas?
I use Transmission on Mac for handling my torrents. I just reformatted and reinstalled Transmission. How do I go about letting Transmission know that the .torrent files I have, are already downloaded and to start seeding without starting downloading again?
I've been using (and enjoy using) Windows 7 through bootcamp on my mac for some time now.
The only problem I've been having is with the audio, I seem to get a low hissing noise which is more prevalent when wearing headphones. Whilst it's not stopping me from using Windows 7 it's something I'd like fixed.
I've tried downloading the latest drivers from Realteks website, but to no avail.
Any suggestions?
I have a mac that is hooked into a sound board, I have external sound card that interfaces between the computer and the soundboard, this works great.
However, whenever the computer restarts it sets the input & output to the 'internal microphone' and the 'built in output'.
I'd like to default to the other soundcard. How can I do this?
I'm running OS 10.6.3

When I try to open the Security preference pane on my iMac running Mac OS 10.6.6, it says "loading..." and it never opens. I get this in the console:

I'm a new Mac OS X 10.6 user, and I was trying to change the Network Proxies settings. However, it's all grayed out and was wondering how to make it editable? I'm the admin of the computer, so this is quite puzzling.
I have an odd issue with a Netgear WIFI router, 4 computers, 2 pc laptops with XP and 7 installed, one macbook pro and one older mac mini.
With security off everything can connect to the wifi.
With WPA-Security on only the macs can connect to the wifi.
I've reset the Netgear router, done everything again from scratch, no deal. The PCs just can't connect.
