• SharePoint's CAML query the "Created By" field with username

  Hey, I have a form for administrators where they insert a user name ("domain\name") and the code gets and sets some information out of it. It's a huge project and some of the lists contain the username as a string ("domain\name"), but some lists only count on the "Created By" column, which is auto-created. I want to know what's the fastest way to query these lists using the username string. I tried to use the same query as the one I use for the first kind of lists and it obviously didn't work - <Where><Eq><FieldRef Name='UserName'/><Value Type='Text'>domain\\username</Value></Eq></Where> Thank you.

  I've been trying to debug the following problem for several weeks now - this method is called from several places within the same datamodule, but this exception (from the subject line of this post) only occurs when integers for a certain purpose (pickup orders vs. orders that we ship through a carrier) are used - and don't ask me how the application can tell the difference between one integer's purpose and another! Furthermore, I cannot duplicate this issue on my machine - the error occurs on a warehouse machine but not my own development machine, even when working with the same production database. I've even created a second dataset from scratch and removed all references to the original dataset in case some property of the original dataset in the .dfm might be corrupted, but the same error occurs under the same circumstances. The commandtext for this dataset is a simple select ValueA from TableName where ValueB = @ParameterB I'm about ready to do something extreme, such as writing a web service to look these values up - it feels right now as though I could destroy my machine, rebuild it, rewrite this entire application from scratch, and the application would still know to throw an exception whenever I try to look up a secondary value from a primary value, but only for pickup orders, and only from the one machine in the warehouse, but I'm probably missing something simple. So, any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

  Hi All, I have configured my list so that users can only read and edit items they have created. I now need to configure this list so that a particular group of users can edit and read all items on this list. I know users with the 'Manage Lists' permission would be able to do this. My question is can this be configured to be even more granular to apply a permission that works like the 'Manage Lists' permission but only for a particular list, rather than all lists?   Hi, Is there a simple way to have a bindinglist composed of serveral bindinglists ? ie that is the "view" of the lists. That is to say : I have 3 lists (list1,list2,list3). I want a list that is alway the union of the 3 listx (we can suppose that no object is contained in 2 different lists). • Multi-threaded Pooled Allocators

  I'm having some issues using pooled memory allocators for std::list objects in a multi-threaded application. The part of the code I'm concerned with runs each thread function in isolation (i.e. there is no communication or synchronization between threads) and therefore I'd like to setup separate memory pools for each thread, where each pool is not thread-safe (and hence fast). I've tried using a shared thread-safe singleton memory pool and found the performance to be poor, as expected. This is a heavily simplified version of the type of thing I'm trying to do. The problem is that I'm dealing with lists of strings, so when I do lists:flatten([["str1","str2"],["str3","str4"],["str5","str6"]]) I get "str1str2str3str4str5str6" However, if the elements of the original list where just atoms, then lists:flatten would have given me what I needed. How do I achieve the same with strings?

• Mapping over multiple Seq in Scala

  Suppose I have val foo : Seq[Double] = ... val bar : Seq[Double] = ... and I wish to produce a seq where the baz(i) = foo(i) + bar(i). One way I can think of to do this is val baz : Seq[Double] = (foo.toList zip bar.toList) map ((f: Double, b : Double) => f+b) However, this feels both ugly and inefficient -- I have to convert both seqs to lists (which explodes with lazy lists), create this temporary list of tuples, only to map over it and let it be GCed. Maybe streams solve the lazy problem, but in any case, this feels like unnecessarily ugly. In lisp, the map function would map over multiple sequences. I would write (mapcar (lambda (f b) (+ f b)) foo bar) And no temporary lists would get created anywhere. Is there a map-over-multiple-lists function in Scala, or is zip combined with destructuring really the 'right' way to do this?

• Tiny MCE (jquery plugin version) not showing toolbar in IE (works fine in other browsers)

  I had an implementation working well but for some reason IE decided it was tired of playing nice. I have an advanced implementation of TinyMCE (the jquery plugin version - see http://tinymce.moxiecode.com/examples/example_23.php for details). It still works great in all browsers but IE. In IE it shows the drop-down options for Format, Font family, and Font size, but only as text.. not as a drop down normally looks. All other buttons on the toolbar are missing. (I've tried IE8 and IE8 Compatibility Mode) I get a javascript error: Syntax error Line 36 Char 1. Unfortunately the javascript is being loaded dynamically so this doesn't help me. • ASP.NET - Google Chrome caching DropDownList selections

  I'm experiencing what seems to be a caching issue with Google Chrome and Safari on my cart page. In the cart there are 2 dropdown lists. When you hit the checkout button after changing the values in the dropdown lists, it commits what's selected in the lists to the database. It's a little bit hard to explain the unexpected behavior so I will try to write it out step by step with an illustration of my problem. Lets say the first dropdown list has the values of: VALUE1 VALUE2 VALUE3 And the second dropdown list has the values of: DUMBO1 DUMBO2 DUMBO3 I add an item to my cart. Screen Says: VALUE1, DUMBO1 Database Says: VALUE1, DUMBO1 I hit Checkout. Database says: VALUE1, DUMBO1 (I can't see the dropdown lists after I hit checkout because i'm not at the cart page) I hit the back button. Screen Says: VALUE1, DUMBO1 Database Says: VALUE1, DUMBO1 I drop down the VALUE1 combo and select VALUE2, VALUE2 is selected momentarily and then the site posts back and VALUE1 is re-selected in the drop down list (from being reloaded from the DB) MOMENTARILY Screen Says: VALUE2, DUMBO1 Database Says: VALUE1, DUMBO1 THEN AFTER POSTBACK FROM DROPDOWNLIST_SELECTIONCHANGED EVENT Screen Says: VALUE1, DUMBO1 Database Says: VALUE1, DUMBO1 Hit Checkout. Database Says VALUE1 ,DUMBO1 (I can't see the dropdown lists after I hit checkout because i'm not at the cart page) Go back. Screen Says: VALUE2, DUMBO1 Database Says: VALUE1, DUMBO1 So it appears that it's remembering my selection of VALUE2 even though it jumped back to VALUE1 before I checked out. It seems to be a caching problem, however I've got some no-cache code to prevent caching of that page that works great in firefox and internet explorer but seems to be failing in Chrome and Safari. I'm basically returning in the headers for the cart page: no-cache, no-store, and must-revalidate to attempt to prevent caching, but based on this scenario it seems to be caching the page anyway and not reloading it when I hit the back button. I am open to any solutions or suggestions at this point. Thanks!

• Cleaner method for list comprehension clean-up

  This relates to my previous question: Converting from nested lists to a delimited string I have an external service that sends data to us in a delimited string format. It is lists of items, up to 3 levels deep. Level 1 is delimited by '|'. Level 2 is delimited by ';' and level 3 is delimited by ','. Each level or element can have 0 or more items. An simplified example is: a,b;c,d|e||f,g|h;; We have a function that converts this to nested lists which is how it is manipulated in Python. def dyn_to_lists(dyn): return [[[c for c in b.split(',')] for b in a.split(';')] for a in dyn.split('|')] For the example above, this function results in the following: >>> dyn = "a,b;c,d|e||f,g|h;;" >>> print (dyn_to_lists(dyn)) [[['a', 'b'], ['c', 'd']], [['e']], [['']], [['f', 'g']], [['h'], [''], ['']]] For lists, at any level, with only one item, we want it as a scalar rather than a 1 item list. For lists that are empty, we want them as just an empty string. I've came up with this function, which does work: def dyn_to_min_lists(dyn): def compress(x): return "" if len(x) == 0 else x if len(x) != 1 else x[0] return compress([compress([compress([item for item in mv.split(',')]) for mv in attr.split(';')]) for attr in dyn.split('|')]) Using this function and using the example above, it returns: [[['a', 'b'], ['c', 'd']], 'e', '', ['f', 'g'], ['h', '', '']] Being new to Python, I'm not confident this is the best way to do it. Are there any cleaner ways to handle this? This will potentially have large amounts of data passing through it, are there any more efficient/scalable ways to achieve this?

  suppose I have a list of coordinates: data = [[(10, 20), (100, 120), (0, 5), (50, 60)], [(13, 20), (300, 400), (100, 120), (51, 62)]] and I want to take all tuples that either appear in each list in data, or any tuple that differs from all tuples in lists other than its own by 3 or less. How can I do this efficiently in Python? For the above example, the results should be: [[(100, 120), # since it occurs in both lists (10, 20), (13, 20), # since they differ by only 3 (50, 60), (51, 60)]] (0, 5) and (300, 400) would not be included, since they don't appear in both lists and are not different from elements in lists other than their own by 3 or less. how can this be computed? thanks.

• Unable to connect to Samba printer

  I have a headless Ubuntu 12.04 server for files and printers. It shares files via Samba just fine. However, the HP PSC-750xi connected to the server via USB is not accessible from my Ubuntu 12.04 laptop. I can browse for it in the Printing control panel, but any attempt to authenticate my ID to the printer with my user credentials results in the error "This print share is not accessible". • 64-bit linux kernel only seeing 3 of 4GB after upgrade...

  Hey everyone. I am running Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit on my macbook. I had 2GB of ram before, and everything ran great. I just upgraded to 2x2GB (4GB), but my system only sees 3GB of it. OS X, which I am dual booting, sees all 4GB. Also, my video performance is incredibly lacking. Before the upgrade my compiz benchmark was full at 80fps, and now it is at 22fps with very choppy window dragging. Has anyone ever heard of this on a 64-bit kernel? There's code in code file to put the value of the GetMessagesCount call in the lblCount, and that always has a sensible value in it. I've tried breaking in the BLL and stepping through, and the backend is getting called, and it is returning what looks like the right information and data, but somehow between the ODS and the GridView it's vanishing. I created a mock data source which returned numbered rows of random numbers and attached it to this form, and the custom paging worked so I think my understanding of the technique is good. I just can't see why it fails here! Any help really appreciated. • Dual Boot issues with Windows 7 and Ubuntu

  I'm finding myself in a rather unique situation. I've read through just about every resource I can find about this and while things have helped me understand some background, I haven't yet been able to find a solution. So I'm asking here. I originally had just a Windows 7 64-bit OS installation on my desktop. Learning that I couldn't do anything with Apache, PHP and MySql from within a 64-bit system, I did some research and found out that I could use Ubuntu. I've installed the latest version: 11.04. I created a CD to install Ubuntu from and the install went just fine. I installed it side-by-side with Windows 7. I can boot into Ubuntu just fine through the dual-boot option. When I reboot to load Windows though, the Grub2 list shows Windows 7 (loader) and when I select this option the Windows System Recovery loads instead of the actual OS. I haven't made it past there because I didn't know what to do. I just shut the computer down and rebooted into Ubuntu. I've been working for the last hour and a half to try to figure out how to boot into the Windows 7 OS and I haven't got a clue. While I'm somewhat proficient with Windows 7, I'm totally new to Ubuntu, so if you do know what needs to happen, please keep it simple enough that I'll be able to understand. • Matchmaking algorithm with a set of filters

  I'm looking for matchmaking algorithm for 1x1 online game. Players must be matched not by their skill or level, as usual, but by some specific filters. Each player sends request, where he specifies some set of parameters (generally, 2-4 parameters). If some parameter is specified, player can be matched only with those who has sent this parameter with exactly the same value, or those who hasn't specified this parameter. I need this algorithm to be thread-safe and preferably fast. It would be great if it'll work for 3-4 or even more parameters, but also I'm looking for algorithm that works with only one parameter (in my case it's game bet). Also I'd appreciate ideas on how to implement or improve this algorithm on my server platform - ASP.NET. One more problem I'm facing is that finding match can't be executed right after user sends request, because if other user sends request before matching for previous is finished, they won't be matched even is they possibly could. So it seems that match finding should be started on schedule, and I need help on how to optimize it and how to choose time interval for starting new match finding. P.S. I've also posted this question on stackoverflow

• VLOOKUP in Excel, part 2: Using VLOOKUP without a database

  In a recent article, we introduced the Excel function called VLOOKUP and explained how it could be used to retrieve information from a database into a cell in a local worksheet.  In that article we mentioned that there were two uses for VLOOKUP, and only one of them dealt with querying databases.  In this article, the second and final in the VLOOKUP series, we examine this other, lesser known use for the VLOOKUP function. If you haven’t already done so, please read the first VLOOKUP article – this article will assume that many of the concepts explained in that article are already known to the reader. When working with databases, VLOOKUP is passed a “unique identifier” that serves to identify which data record we wish to find in the database (e.g. a product code or customer ID).  This unique identifier must exist in the database, otherwise VLOOKUP returns us an error.  In this article, we will examine a way of using VLOOKUP where the identifier doesn’t need to exist in the database at all.  It’s almost as if VLOOKUP can adopt a “near enough is good enough” approach to returning the data we’re looking for.  In certain circumstances, this is exactly what we need. We will illustrate this article with a real-world example – that of calculating the commissions that are generated on a set of sales figures.  We will start with a very simple scenario, and then progressively make it more complex, until the only rational solution to the problem is to use VLOOKUP.  The initial scenario in our fictitious company works like this:  If a salesperson creates more than $30,000 worth of sales in a given year, the commission they earn on those sales is 30%.  Otherwise their commission is only 20%.  So far this is a pretty simple worksheet: To use this worksheet, the salesperson enters their sales figures in cell B1, and the formula in cell B2 calculates the correct commission rate they are entitled to receive, which is used in cell B3 to calculate the total commission that the salesperson is owed (which is a simple multiplication of B1 and B2). The cell B2 contains the only interesting part of this worksheet – the formula for deciding which commission rate to use: the one below the threshold of $30,000, or the one above the threshold.  This formula makes use of the Excel function called IF.  For those readers that are not familiar with IF, it works like this: IF(condition,value if true,value if false) Where the condition is an expression that evaluates to either true or false.  In the example above, the condition is the expression B1<B5, which can be read as “Is B1 less than B5?”, or, put another way, “Are the total sales less than the threshold”.  If the answer to this question is “yes” (true), then we use the value if true parameter of the function, namely B6 in this case – the commission rate if the sales total was below the threshold.  If the answer to the question is “no” (false), then we use the value if false parameter of the function, namely B7 in this case – the commission rate if the sales total was above the threshold. As you can see, using a sales total of $20,000 gives us a commission rate of 20% in cell B2.  If we enter a value of $40,000, we get a different commission rate: So our spreadsheet is working. Let’s make it more complex.  Let’s introduce a second threshold:  If the salesperson earns more than $40,000, then their commission rate increases to 40%: Easy enough to understand in the real world, but in cell B2 our formula is getting more complex.  If you look closely at the formula, you’ll see that the third parameter of the original IF function (the value if false) is now an entire IF function in its own right.  This is called a nested function (a function within a function).  It’s perfectly valid in Excel (it even works!), but it’s harder to read and understand. We’re not going to go into the nuts and bolts of how and why this works, nor will we examine the nuances of nested functions.  This is a tutorial on VLOOKUP, not on Excel in general. Anyway, it gets worse!  What about when we decide that if they earn more than $50,000 then they’re entitled to 50% commission, and if they earn more than $60,000 then they’re entitled to 60% commission? Now the formula in cell B2, while correct, has become virtually unreadable.  No-one should have to write formulae where the functions are nested four levels deep!  Surely there must be a simpler way? There certainly is.  VLOOKUP to the rescue! Let’s redesign the worksheet a bit.  We’ll keep all the same figures, but organize it in a new way, a more tabular way: Take a moment and verify for yourself that the new Rate Table works exactly the same as the series of thresholds above. Conceptually, what we’re about to do is use VLOOKUP to look up the salesperson’s sales total (from B1) in the rate table and return to us the corresponding commission rate.  Note that the salesperson may have indeed created sales that are not one of the five values in the rate table ($0, $30,000, $40,000, $50,000 or $60,000).  They may have created sales of $34,988.  It’s important to note that $34,988 does not appear in the rate table.  Let’s see if VLOOKUP can solve our problem anyway… We select cell B2 (the location we want to put our formula), and then insert the VLOOKUP function from the Formulas tab: The Function Arguments box for VLOOKUP appears.  We fill in the arguments (parameters) one by one, starting with the Lookup_value, which is, in this case, the sales total from cell B1.  We place the cursor in the Lookup_value field and then click once on cell B1: Next we need to specify to VLOOKUP what table to lookup this data in.  In this example, it’s the rate table, of course.  We place the cursor in the Table_array field, and then highlight the entire rate table – excluding the headings: Next we must specify which column in the table contains the information we want our formula to return to us.  In this case we want the commission rate, which is found in the second column in the table, so we therefore enter a 2 into the Col_index_num field: Finally we enter a value in the Range_lookup field. Important:  It is the use of this field that differentiates the two ways of using VLOOKUP.  To use VLOOKUP with a database, this final parameter, Range_lookup, must always be set to FALSE, but with this other use of VLOOKUP, we must either leave it blank or enter a value of TRUE.  When using VLOOKUP, it is vital that you make the correct choice for this final parameter. To be explicit, we will enter a value of true in the Range_lookup field.  It would also be fine to leave it blank, as this is the default value: We have completed all the parameters.  We now click the OK button, and Excel builds our VLOOKUP formula for us: If we experiment with a few different sales total amounts, we can satisfy ourselves that the formula is working. Conclusion In the “database” version of VLOOKUP, where the Range_lookup parameter is FALSE, the value passed in the first parameter (Lookup_value) must be present in the database.  In other words, we’re looking for an exact match. But in this other use of VLOOKUP, we are not necessarily looking for an exact match.  In this case, “near enough is good enough”.  But what do we mean by “near enough”?  Let’s use an example:  When searching for a commission rate on a sales total of $34,988, our VLOOKUP formula will return us a value of 30%, which is the correct answer.  Why did it choose the row in the table containing 30% ?  What, in fact, does “near enough” mean in this case?  Let’s be precise: When Range_lookup is set to TRUE (or omitted), VLOOKUP will look in column 1 and match the highest value that is not greater than the Lookup_value parameter. It’s also important to note that for this system to work, the table must be sorted in ascending order on column 1!
