• Ubuntu 14.04 doesn' t boot after upgrade from 12.04 installed inside Windows 8.1

  I have Ubuntu 12.04 installed like an app on windows 8.1 (Ubuntu 12.04 allow to be installed like an app in Windows 8.1 and it can be removed when you don't need it any more from Control Panel). Usually, to chose what os to boot when you start the laptop, you can choose between windows 8.1 and Ubuntu after windows logo appeared at start up and that was ok until I made this upgrade. Now when I try to choose Ubuntu the laptop try to boot it but, after that full colored screen is showed the screen go black and this messages appear: mount: mounting /dev/loop0/ on /root failed : Invalid argument mount: mounting /dev on /root/dev failed: No such file or directory mount: mounting /sys on /root/sys failed: No such file or directory mount: mounting /proc on /root/proc failed: No such file or directory Target filesystem doesn' t have requested /sbin/init No init found. Try passing init = bootarg. BusyBox v1.21.1 (Ubuntu 1:1:21.0-1ubuntu1) built-in shell (ash) Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands (initramfs) _ I don' t know what to do after this screen appears. Please help !

• Computer won't wake from hibernate

  So I have a pretty dumb problem...I accidentaly pressed Hibernate while trying to Restart...since then my computer wont boot into Ubuntu anymore (through normal mode or single user mode - rescue mode that is)...all I get is: mount: mounting /dev on /root/dev failed: No such file or directory mount: mounting /sys/ on root/sys failed: No such file or directory mount: mounting /proc on /root/proc failed: No such file or dirctory Target filesystem doesn't have requested /sbin/init. No init found. Try passing init= boot arg. BusyBox v1.15.3 (Ubuntu 1:1.15.3-1ubuntu5) built-in shell (ash) Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands. (initramfs) Obviously I tried to fire up the Live CD and run fsck (or e2fsck) from there (or just try to do a Check of /dev/sdb1 my partition via gparted - which is basically the same thing). But it doesn't allow me...both gparted and fsck say that the device is busy (I can't even mount it in the LiveCD to rescue data)...umount /dev/sdb1 says its not mounted...any ideas?

  In the coming months we're going to begin a project where we take a system we've built for a client (v1) and rebuild it from scratch. Our goal with v2 is to make it modular, so that this specific client will have their own set of modules they use, then another client may use a different set of modules altogether. The trick here is that Company A might have a series of checkout and user modules that change how that system works. Company B might stick with the standard checkout procedure but customize how products are browsed. What are some good approaches to application architecture when you're building an application from scratch that you want to have a Core that's shared among all clients while still maintaining the flexability for anything to be modified specifically for a client? I've seen CodeIgniter's hooks and don't think that's a good solution as we could end up with 250 hooks and it's still not flexible enough. What are some other solutions? Ideally we won't need to draw a line in the sand.

  I'm using LibGDX v1.1.0 and I see that the label of a TextButton is not properly centered. I have the following code: m_resumeButton = new TextButton("resume", skin); m_resumeButton.addListener(new ChangeListener() { public void changed(ChangeEvent event, Actor actor) { m_state = GameState.RUNNING; getGame().getWorld().pauseWorld(false); } }); The default TextButtonStyle is defined as: "com.badlogic.gdx.scenes.scene2d.ui.TextButton$TextButtonStyle": { "default": { "up": "menu-button", "down": "menu-button-down", "checked": "menu-button-down", "disabled": "menu-button-disabled", "font": "font24", "fontColor": "white" } } The menu button images are simple 240x48 bitmaps saved as 9-patch images.   I'm polishing an old project that i released some years ago, and the main purpose on that, is to arrange some folder structures and port the entire code from actionscript to haxe. All the game features, assets and design will remain the same. I have some doubts regarding versioning the project in this circumstance. Assuming that the only thing that will be drastically changed is the code migration, is it correct maintaining the new project changes on the same repository ? I was thinking in tagging it something like V1.1 or Branch the entire project. But i'm afraid that i'm gonna deviate from the versioning patterns. How can i use this version control issue in the best practice way ? Thanks.

  Possible Duplicate: Data input validation - Where? How much? I'm a new PHP developer and am into Powershell quite a bit but this question is language agnostic. I've been questioning my code quite a bit lately thinking about how many nets I should setup to catch exceptions, verify results, etc. I realize that I could go crazy trying to verify each and every line of code but at the same time I want the code as resilient as possible. I'm not talking about user input but verifying output from methods. Is there some standard or rule of thumb to go by when deciding when and where to do data validation?

• How do I ensure all of the ports on my machine are open or reachable?

  I was testing port connectivity on my machine because WoW (which uses TCP ports 3724, 6112, and 6881-6999) couldn't connect to the Internet. So I downloaded PFPortChecker application and ran it using Wine (v1.3). After I tried to check every port, it seems like they're not reachable/closed. Why is that? My firewall is disabled so why is this happening? How can I open these ports and how can I see if these ports are opened or not? Also, how can I determine which application is using them?

  I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on external HDD. How can I boot it? I used grub4dos before, and it worked with Fedora distributions. Problem I have now is that I don't know which initrd and vmlinuz files to use. Tried with one I have in /boot directory, but booting did not worked... Can you give me some ideas what to try, do i have to use different initrd and vmlinuz, or I can solve this with other solutions. Also, just to mention that boot goes to BusyBox v1.18.4 command prompt. Thank you in advance!

So the user would type e.g. London, UK and I need to load the query as below: http://query.yahooapis.com/v1/public/yql?q=select%20woeid%20from%20geo.places%20where%20text%20%3D%20%22London%2C%20UK%2C%20UK%22&format=xml After which I need to grab the WOEID value from the returned XML. Is there a way to do this all client side, using Javascript/ JQuery? Thanks alot

  I am following the SampleSyncAdapter and upon startup, it appears that my SyncAdapter is not configured correctly. It reports an error trying to load its meta-data. How can I isolate the problem? You can see the other accounts in the system that register correctly.   Is there a Google API similar to Yahoo and Bing's API's to check for the number of indexed pages on a specified domain? For example, for Yahoo if I type in the following URL: http://search.yahooapis.com/SiteExplorerService/V1/pageData?appid=MTSlade&query=http://www.dave-sellers.co.uk&domain_only=1&results=1 Then it will return some XML detailing the number of pages indexed as 'totalResultsAvailable' Any idea?   I need to read a website's folders using WMI and C# in IIS 6.0. I am able to read the Virtual directories and applications using the "IISWebVirtualDirSetting" class. However the physical folders located inside a website cannot be read using this class. And for my case i need to read sub folders located within a website and later on set permission on them. For my requirement i dont need to work on Virtual Directories/Web Service Applications (which can be easily obtained using the code below..). I have tried to use IISWebDirectory class but it has been useful.   I am using NVelocity to process various PowerShell scripts before they are executed against a server. My question is how to escape a backslash trailing a variable: e.g. ls \\$computername\c$ $computername should be replaced with a valid computer name at runtime, but the trailing backslash (\c$) means that it does not.
