• Fedora12 Slow USB 2.0 Write Speed, ehci_hcd module is missing

  I am using Fedora 12, the problem I am facing is USB 2.0 write speed. I have a dual boot system with Windows XP and Fedora 12. USB 2.0 write speed in Windows XP is much faster then what I am getting in Fedora 12. After searching Google I came to know that ehci_hcd module is missing/not present in my system. ehci_hcd module is neither loaded nor it is present in the available list of modules. Can someone guide me how to fix this issue? Does ehci_hcd have something to do with USB 2.0 write speed? Do I have to recompile the kernel and add/enable the ehci_hcd module?

• vim command palette, similar to sublime text

  In sublime text, we can press ??P to bring up the command palette. Are there any similar tools for vim? I’ve been trying vim-ctrlp-cmdpalette, and although it works relatively well (there are some small issues), it depends on ctrlp (not a huge problem), and it looks like it won’t see much development (it has 14 commits over the course of 3 days, 5 months ago, for an “Initial experimental version”), so I was wondering if there are any known alternatives, since searching for “vim command palette” is a bit limiting; maybe there are some other terms more appropriate for this.

• Execution plan different on two different Sql Servers

  On our sql server, a query takes 20 ms. If I look at the execution plan, parallelism is used, hash match, Bitmap create, ... a lot of images with two arrows pointing to the left. On sql server of a customer where our product runs, the same query takes 2500 ms. If I look at their execution plan, no parallelism or any of the things with arrows are used... I've been searching for a couple of days no why the query runs so much slower on their sql server. Is parallelism and all of the other things something that can be configured on their sql server? And how to you configure that? What are the dangers of using parallelism? Another strange thing is that on our server, the query needs some 1200 reads and 0 writes. On their sql server it needs 1.5 million reads and some 1500 writes. Why these writes when a read query is done?

• IE session (-nomerge) management application?

  I'm in need of an application that can manage multiple Internet Explorer instances (to be precise nomerge sessions) like you can in Remote Desktop Manager with RDPs. This app should host them in single window and arrange IE instances e.g. in tabs or lists. OK, in Remote Desktop Manager you can create Web session, but in embedded mode you cannot set the nomerge option - all windows and tabs share the same session. I've been searching the web, but with no results. So I put this question whether anyone know of such application or any workaround. Or I have to write my own app?

• How to open embedded Visio files with only Visio Viewer?

  For some bizarre reason Visio Viewer seems incapable of opening vsd files when they're embedded within a (2010) Excel document: However if I open the Excel document with 7-zip, browse to xl\embeddings, extract oleObject1.bin and rename it to a .vsd file extension it opens perfectly fine with Visio Viewer in Internet Explorer. Since this opens fine on a computer with the full Visio installed, my guess is it's trying to launch Visio rather than IE. Is there something I can do to fix this? I've been scanning with Process Monitor and searching with RegScanner comparing a Visio-installed system to a VisioViewer-installed system and there doesn't actually seem to be any sort of registry value giving direction here... maybe it's just the nature of OLE. (If it can't be fixed I'm okay with converting the extracted one to a .png or so to replace the embedded object, but the "solutions" I've found for vsd to image conversion are very poor or non-working, i.e. buggy code, code with Visio dependencies, or online services.)

• How to make IIS7 stop adding etag to response headers?

  For performance reasons, I'm using expire headers for static files (adding long expiration periods like 50 years or so). Now I'm trying to get rid of etag headers which are automatically added by IIS7. I've done some searching but it seems harder than what I thought (there doesn't seem to be a straight forward way). I found some workarounds but they all use httpmodules (which I'm keeping as a last resort). I strongly prefer to not get the etag header added in the first place. Did anyone manage to do this? • How to unblock chm files - unblock button is missing

  I downloaded a CHM file. When I double click it it prompts me to open / save / cancel. Whether I open or save a new copy, the 'new' version will prompt the same open / save / cancel popup ad infinitum. Searching google it seems that Microsoft have deemed it right for security reason to block these files by default. The solution is to right click the file, and click the 'unblock' button at the bottom: The problem is that I don't have that button on my system: BTW, the button is also missing for .exe files.I'm using Win7 64bit. Any ideas?

• Redirect 'host-based' requests to a port (inside a docker container)

  I'm trying to achieve this fun project of having multiple 'postfix/dovecot' instances inside a docker container. I'm searching for 'something' that would redirect any incoming request on port 25 (any maybe later 143, 993) to the right container on a different port. Here's the idea : +-------+ +----------+ (internet)----(port 25) |mainbox| ---- (port 52032) |container1| (postfix) +-------+ | +----------+ \ (port 52033) +----------+ |container2| (postfix) +----------+ So the idea is to 'redirect' requests coming to port 25 and based on 'hostname' to forward to the right port (internally); ideally, it would be great to manage this 'mapping' with a database/textfile Any ideas ? • Windows XP waits for usb drive on almost every operation.

  Hello everyone, I have a problem with my Windows XP operating system, particularly with the USB device that is plugged in - 1TB WD My Book external drive. I haven't found any information about such behaviour when searching in Internet, so I have to ask You. The problem is: when I am using computer, especially during work (programming), when I try to access any information on a hard disk ("internal" one), Windows seems to "consult" it with the external drive. For example, when I open file selection dialog window, if I try to change directory, system activates external drive, reads something (I hear the disk's operational noise) and after some seconds of such pause it makes the operations I requested. There are many situations in which I can reproduce this behavior - opening My Computer, shutting down system, opening partition folder from My Computer - every operation involves the usage of external drive. Please understand me properly - this is not something that happens EVERY time, but at least "many" times a day. What causes such behavior and how can I "turn off" external drive when it's not needed? • Outlook Search starting date

  I am having a problem with Outlook 2003 search on 2 desktops - 1 XP, 1 Windows 7. They are both connected to the same exchange 2007 server. There are several other users connected to the same server, inside the lan and outside using RPC none of whom are having this issue. When the user searches Outlook, search starts from the date Outlook OST file was created and then searches more recent items. The result is that if user is searching for some phrase, e.g. "Blade" in their inbox folder, search results from months ago are returned first then the more recent results. If i delete the OST file and restart Outlook it rebuilds a new one, and resynchronizes normally, then search works normally again, however approximately 6 weeks later the problem will start again (see second paragraph). Anyone experience this ? Any Suggestions ?

  After reading this question about maxing out an SSD I decided to do so myself. My mobo only supports SATA 2 and has two PCIe 2.0 x1 connectors (which promiss up to 500 mb/s). So after some searching I decided to go with this controller from amazon. My Samsung magician benchmark before upgrade (running SATA 2): Now after installing the controller all of the benchmark scores are lower (even though the Samsung Magician app confirms its connected to a SATA 3 port): What can I do to remedy this? Any help is appreciated.

  I am searching for a way to type a keyword in the start menu Search programs and files field and that it will return the application that match the keyword. An example will better explain this: Suppose that I want to start the powershell. Currently what I can type in the search field is power and the first item that appear is the 64bits powershell shortcut. Now suppose that I'd like ps to return powershell as the first item of the search list. Currently, typing ps return all files with the .ps extension, along with a control panel options about recording steps but not the powershell executable itself. How can I do that?

• Windows XP runs New Hardware Wizard for usb keyboard and mouse, can't find drivers

  I have a PC that up until a couple days ago was working fine. I moved it from one site to another and now when I plug in the USB mouse or keyboard (the same ones that were working previously) XP brings up the New Hardware Wizard. Going through it, the correct keyboard and mouse are identified, but XP can't find the drivers. I've tried manually searching for the driver (using the Have Disk option) - the first file it's looking for is in the c:\i386 directory, but that installs a generic HID mouse device; the system then runs the hardware wizard for a new "unknown" device. The system was SP2, I have installed SP3 in hopes that would help, and I've also downloaded and installed the mouse drivers from Dell's site (there are no specific drivers for the keyboard), with no change. Before I completely reinstall XP, is there anything else I should try?

The tutoring will involve a lot of off-the-cuff illustrations. I am hence searching for a suitable software which will emulate a blackboard over an internet connection. I need the software to enable sharing of a common canvas on which I can draw, write and point to. Say a Microsoft paint canvas on internet. Could you point out a suitable software? • DD-WRT login does not work on Linux in Virtualbox

  I am running on Windows 8 and installed Lubuntu 13.04 in VirtualBox. I cannot login to DD-WRT in Virtualbox. I can login to DD-WRT on Windows 8. I have used the same credentials and tried many times, but to no avail. How can I login successfully to DD-WRT in VirtualBox? I have even tried searching on the Internet but I could not find any relevant solutions. Additional Information: Using Chromium ( I have tried it on Firefox and it does not work ) Enabled secure shell: but it still does not work. • Mystery "users" email group

  This morning, our entire company received a spam message sent to [email protected], where "ourdomain.on.ca" is our actual domain. There is a distinguished name that this could correspond to: CN=Users,DC=ourdomain,DC=on,DC=ca Looking at the attributes though, there is no mail, no proxyAddresses, no signs that there is a mailbox configured there. I did some LDAP queries, searching for: (proxyAddresses=smtp:[email protected]) ([email protected]) But am not seeing any records. (I also search for known email addresses to ensure the tree was being searched properly.) We are running Exchange 2003. Is there another place to look for group email addresses? Is it possible that the distinguished name is being automatically translated to an email address?

• PXE Boot PCLinuxOS ISO

  I'm in the process of trying to convert some computers at my local school to be diskless browser stations. We've identified PCLinuxOS as the OS we'd like to use due to it's easy interface for creating custom ISO images (we need WINE and some custom apps installed also, as well as FireFox). I've been having problems figuring out how to get an ISO to boot via PXE. In our network, I only have access to TFTP and HTTP, so I cannot use NFS. The machines all have enough memory (4 gigs) that they could use a ram drive to hold the ISO image, if that helps. Currently I've been looking at GPXE with GRUB/MEMDISK, but I don't know if that's the right solution, or even where a good resource is for setting it up. Searching the web has proved fruitless, as most of the information is either NFS-specific or out of date. The other students and I would appreciate any help! :)

  I need to allow an include path for a vhost subdomain on Plesk 10. I've edited the PHP PEAR path into /etc/php.ini as I'm happy for it to be globally available: include_path = ".:/usr/share/pear/" This works insofar as PHP is able to see the files in that directory when a script tries to include them, but I'm getting the dreaded openbasedir error: Warning: require_once() [function.require-once]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/usr/share/pear/xxxx.php) is not within the allowed path(s): (/var/www/vhosts/xxxx.com/subdomains/test/httpdocs/:/tmp/) Am I right in saying that the subdomain or main domain can have a vhost.conf file in which I can alter the openbasedir allowed paths? I've tried searching out solutions but I'm afraid I can't quite see one yet :)

• Debian Testing install USB menu does not respond to keyboard

  I'm trying to install Debian Testing onto my Acer Aspire One ZG5 using the testing versions of boot.img and debian-testing-i386-CD-1.iso. I previously installed (two days ago) the latest release of stable, and the boot.img/CD1 from that worked fine, and installed seamlessly. With testing though, the menu does not respond to the keyboard as soon as the menu appears to select Install/Graphical install/Help, etc. I have also tried to boot with an external (USB) keyboard, which again, works fine with the stable version of boot.img/CD1, but not testing. I did some searching and couldn't find anything that looked similar. Any ideas?

• Forward Windows Events Logs to Rsyslog

  Thanks for taking time to read this post. Basically I would like to forward Windows Events Logs from all my desktop clients to a linux box with rsyslog on. Rsyslog provide a Windows agent to do just that but its 40 euros per license and when you have x amount of machines that cost adds up. I was wondering if there is a FOSS alternative available I have tried searching the Google but haven't managed to find anything. This is the rule that forward all 80 traffic to my squid3.1 server at DMZ DNAT loc:!10.0.0.126 dmz:172.16.0.198:3128 tcp 80 - !172.16.0.198 Ok, I need to add more ips to avoid transparent proxy. I tried loc:!10.0.0.134,!10.0.0.126...but didnt work (also similars like [ip0,ip1]. I tried to google the answer cant find it (sorry no matches, not searching the right keywords) also I tried to read the docs, but they are really long (and indexes dont help me). Thanks!

• Enable Remote Desktop File Transfer

  Most of the servers I RDP to support cut-and-paste file transfer (from my Win7 64 machine). One does not, and I can't figure out what configuration step is missing. I followed the steps outlined here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313292 but do not see the local file system on the remote server (or vice versa for that matter), and I cannot cut and paste files from the local to the remote system. If I try to cut and paste from the remote system to the local one, I get the error Cannot copy FILENAME: Windows cannot find '%1!ls!'. Check the spelling and try again, or try searching for the item by clicking the Start button and then clicking Search. The remote server is Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition.

• "MAS SMS-CDMA" Bluetooth service

  I have my phone (LG Rumor Touch on Sprint) connected to my Windows 7 computer by Bluetooth. Usually, one of the services is unidentified and no driver is installed. Occasionally I have an issue that is solved by removing and re-pairing my phone with my computer. The last few times I have paired my computer and phone, the unidentified service was found and installed, as "MAS SMS-CDMA". It sounds like an interface that allows sending and reading SMS messages via Bluetooth. However, there is no software available from Sprint or LG that I have found that offers such functionality. Searching Google for "MAS SMS-CMDA" (with quotes) did not provide anything useful, only what appear to be CMDA information written in Spanish. What can I use this service for, and how do I use it?
