  • sendmail on ubuntu (9.10) machine "stopped" sending mail

    - by Doron
I'm developing on my ubuntu 9.10 machine for the web (php). I'm using it sendmail for sending mails, and while developing on my local machine, I send local mails (to my user 'doron'). Up until a few days ago, I was able to send mails both from php's mail() function, and from the command line using the mail command. I'm using sendmail with mailutils. Since the last few days, it seems like it stopped working. When I try to send mail from the command line, I get the following in my syslog (and mail.info, and mail.log): Mar 3 13:27:58 doron-desktop sendmail[4693]: o23BRwlA004693: from=doron, size=84, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<201003031127.o23BRwlA004693@doron-desktop.>, relay=doron@localhost Mar 3 13:27:58 doron-desktop sm-mta[4694]: o23BRwtQ004694: ruleset=check_rcpt, arg1=<doron@doron-desktop>, relay=localhost [127.0.0.1], reject=553 5.1.8 <doron@doron-desktop>... • Ubuntu: Unsupported Sources

    - by Scott
What kind of software is available in that source tree ? Also what is the best way to see what kind of software is available in a repository ? I have always reluctant to enable it because I didn't want to wind up with an unstable system.

  • Why can't I get Apache2 mod_dumpio working under Lucid Lynx Ubuntu?

    - by bland328
I'm trying to capture all of the traffic to and from an Apache2 web server for troubleshooting purposes, so I did the following to try to set mod_dumpio up properly: Used a2enmod to enable mod_dumpio Changed LogLevel to "debug" in apache2.config Added "DumpIOInput On", "DumpIOOutput On" and "DumpIOLogLevel debug" to apache2.config Issued "/etc/init.d/apache2 restart" to restart Apache Issued "apache2ctl -t -D DUMP_MODULES" to make sure mod_dumpio was loaded I'm watching /var/log/apache2/error.log, but not seeing much there, and certainly not a dump of all input and output. Can anyone help?

  • who has files open on a linux server

    - by Robert
I have the fairly common task of finding who has files open on our Linux (Ubuntu ) file server in our Windows environment. We use Samba on the network and I use Putty from my workstation to establish a shell window to run bash scripts. I have been using something like this to find what files are open: (this returns a list of process ids with each open file) Robert:$ sudo lsof | grep "/srv/office/some/folder" Then, I follow up with something like this to show who owns the process: (this returns the name of the machine on the network using the IP4 protocol who owns the process) Robert:$ sudo lsof -p 27295 | grep "IPv4" Now I know the windows client who has a file open and can take action from there. As you can tell this is not difficult but time consuming. I would prefer to have a windows application I can run that would just give me what I want. So, I have been thinking about creating some process I can run on Linux that listens on a port and then returns a clean list of all open files with the IP address of the host who has the file open. Then, a small windows client application that can send the request on the port. It seems like this should be a very common need but I can not find anything like this that has been done before. Any suggestions?

  • Ubuntu Nvidia Xorg Twinview doesnt like my monitors

    - by Andrew Bolster
Basically, using the latest available ubuntu drivers (195.36.15) I cannot for the life of me get my two monitors to operate at suitable resolutions. When not using the drivers atall and going single-screen, both monitors support 1680x1050, but this option is only shown for one monitor in nvidia-settings, and when i manually add a metamode into the xorg.conf, it just gives up initialising the second screen. • MySQL moving ibdata & ib_logfile

    - by XoR
    I'm trying to move ibdata & ib_logfile on ssd drive. I tried this way, but it don't work: service mysql stop cd /var/lib/ cp -ra mysql mysql_backup cp -a mysql/ibdata1 mysql/ib_logfile* /ssd_drive/mysql my.cnf looks like this (relevant parts): innodb_log_group_home_dir=/ssd_drive/mysql innodb_data_home_dir=/ssd_drive/mysql After all changes I get following errors: InnoDB: Unable to lock /ssd_drive/mysql/ibdata1, error: 13 InnoDB: Check that you do not already have another mysqld process Do I need to remove some lock files, or there is something else that I forgot... Also I setup mysql apparmor so it can rw on this directory, and rebooted afterward: /usr/sbin/mysqld { ................. /ssd_drive/mysql/* rw, ................. }

  • Turn off tap-to-select on IBM UltraNav keyboard

    - by gworley3
I have an IBM UltraNav USB keyboard with a trackpoint and a touchpad. Using xinput I've gotten a number of things working how I would like, but I've got one remaining problem. I can't find a way to turn off tap-to-select on the touchpad. I've searched around and everyone describes how to do it using the synaptics driver, but for some reason I can't seem to get this installed and working correctly on my Ubuntu 10.04 install. What can I do to turn this feature off without having synaptics? I'm about to lose my mind from all the accidental clicks.

  • Ubuntu 9.10: how do I troubleshoot a startup script that doesn't appear to run?

    - by TheDeeno
I've created a bash script 'foo'. I've made that script executable with chmod+x and added it the the start-up by running sudo update-rc.d foo defaults 80 Despite that, it doesn't appear to be working at startup. Is there a way to have my script echo messages to a log? Or is there some log that would record events/errors for this? atm, I feel like I'm flying blind and don't really know how to troubleshoot this.

Hi, I'm using ubuntu 8.10. I want to do benchmarking using autobench. I could install httperf by the command sudo apt-get install httperf I thought I should be installing autobench in the same way using apt-get. But the package was not found. Can anybody please suggest me what should I be doing in order make this "autobench" command work for me in ubuntu? Any help in this regard will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • How to stop blanking screen although I am active on Ubuntu Karmic on old IBM Laptop

    - by Glen S. Dalton
How to stop blanking screen although I am active on Ubuntu Karmic on old IBM Laptop 600E? After some time of working on the machine the screen goes blank. When I hit ESC on the built-in keyboard (not on the attached USB keyboard where I work) it comes back and everything works fine until the next screen-blanking. I suspect it is some power management issue. When I use an old keyboard that has a ps2 connector it does not happen. So my guess is that the usb keyboard does not update the power management timer that detects when the session was last used? I am using fluxbox window manager. I do not want to disable power management because it is nice that the fan only works at the necessary speed (the fan spped is regulated which I can hear) But I could disable power management for testing purposes.

  • What is this dm-0 device?

    - by Jeff Shattock
While poking around trying to figure out why a Linux - Linux file transfer is running slower than I think it should, I stumbled across something I'm not familiar with. /dev/dm-0 seems to be my bottleneck, but I have no idea what it is. On my destination server, the iostat command shows a device at the bottom, /dev/dm-0, as being 100% utilized. This server has 6 disks in a mdadm raid5 set, with LVM running on top of it. Each of the underlying disks are sitting around 50% util. The transfer is writing to a logical volume located on this raidset. What is this /dev/dm-0 thing? Once I know what it is, maybe I can find how to increase its speed, or at least understand why its the speed that it is.

  • remove tasksel lamp-server

    - by RickyA
I was tricked in running "sudo tasksel install lamp-server" on the wrong server (UBUNTU 10.4). Now I am stuck with a system where apache won't start because of a "Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80" error. I now want to remove this task, but documentation on that crappy tasksel says you cant use it to uninstall stuff (!!!???). My question is where can I see what packages it installed, and how can I get rid of a selection of them (apt-get?). I want to keep apache, but mysql, php and the other stuff can go... [edit] I managed to get rid of most of the lamp stack. (/var/logs/dpkg.log is usefull for recently installed packages). However it did something in a configuration somewhere, and now two apache intstances start at boottime. Killing the first one and starting a new one gets rid of the "could not bind at adress..." error. Does anyone know where the startup of the first one is configured?

  • Ubuntu 9.10 server requires frequent reboots to free up memory

    - by bcmcfc
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 on my server. It works fine, it's just that over time (usually a couple of days) the memory usage just grows and grows until it invariably runs out and needs to be rebooted. It's running Apache, Samba, ProFTPd, Postfix, Munin & Webmin. Is there anything that can be done to free up the memory that it doesn't need anymore?

  • Opera: closed window w/many tabs, window still open w/one tab, how to retrieve the many tabs

    - by Abel
This is a little recipe for a little disaster: accidentally close a window with many important tabs open, only to find out that another window is still active with one tab open. Closing it will overwrite the saved tabs of the other window, which I want to recover. I need to recover the window with "many tabs" if possible,I didn't yet close the window with the one tab open, hopefully that prevents overwriting the saved settings. How do I retrieve, now that Opera is still active, the tabs of the closed window? I.e., where would Opera normally store these tabs when it closes a window? Can I prevent it from overwriting the saved state of "many tabs" with the current "one tab"?

  • connect remotely to apache2 on ubuntu 10.04

    - by ronakin
I've apache2 server installed on a machine that connected to two different networks, therefore it has two different addresses: 192.168.1.111 (static ip on ethernet network) and 109.253.78.211. when connecting through 109.253.78.211 on the browser, the web pages are displayed perfectly, However, when connecting through 109.253.78.211 the web pages are displayed partially. I've not installed any firewalls. I'll really appreciate if you could redirect me to checks I should commit to reach the source of the problem. Thank you :)

  • Is Subversion(SVN) supported on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 32bit?

    - by Chad
I've setup subversion on Ubuntu 10.04, but can't get authentication to work. I believe all my config files are setup correctly, However I keep getting prompted for credentials on a SVN CHECKOUT. Like there is an issue with apache2 talking to svnserve. If I allow anonymous access checkout works fine. Does anybody know if there is a known issue with subversion and 10.04 or see a error in my configuration? below is my configuration: # fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 32bit sudo apt-get install apache2 apache2-utils -y sudo apt-get install subversion libapache2-svn subversion-tools -y sudo mkdir /svn sudo svnadmin create /svn/DataTeam sudo svnadmin create /svn/ReportingTeam #Setup the svn config file sudo vi /etc/apache2/mods-available/dav_svn.conf #replace file with the following. <Location /svn> DAV svn SVNParentPath /svn/ AuthType Basic AuthName "Subversion Server" AuthUserFile /etc/apache2/dav_svn.passwd Require valid-user AuthzSVNAccessFile /etc/apache2/svn_acl </Location> sudo touch /etc/apache2/svn_acl #replace file with the following.
