• Mimic property/list changes on an object on another object

  I need to mimic changes (property/list) changes on an object and then apply it to another object to keep the structure/property the same. In essence it's like cloning etc. the biz rules require certain properties to not be applied to the other object, so I can't just clone the object otherwise this would be easy. I've already walked the source object to get INotifyPropertyChanged and IListChanged events, so I have the "source" and the args (Property or List) changed event notifications. Given that I guess I could build a reflection "hierarchy path" starting from the top level of the source object to get to the Property or List changed "source" (which could be several levels deep). Ignoring for the moment that certain object properties should not propagate to the other object, what's a way to build this "path"? Is a brute force top level down to build the "path" (and discard on the way back up if we don't hit the original changed event "source") the only way to do it? Any clever ideas on how to mimic changes from one object to another object?

• Best way to store 3 pieces of data as a single entry

  For a game server, I want to record details when a player makes a kill, store this, and then at intervals update to a sql database. The part i'm interested in right now is the best method of storing the kill information. What i'd like to pass to the sql server on update would be {PlayerName, Kills, Deaths}, where the kills and deaths are a sum for the period between updates. So i'm assuming i'd build a list along the lines of {bob, 1, 0} {frank, 0, 1} {tom, 1, 0} {frank, 0, 1} then on update, consolidate the list to {frank, 14, 3}etc Can someone offer some advice please?

• Applying a function to an arbitrarily long list of arguments

  I want to create a function apply that takes a function with an arbitrary amount of arguments as well as a list of integers, and returns the result of the function (Where each integer in the list is an argument in order. I was thinking something like: apply :: ([Int] -> Int) -> [Int] -> Int apply f x:xs = apply (f x) xs apply f [] = f But I know this won't work because the type signature is wrong - the function doesn't take a list of ints, it just takes some amount of int arguments. Additionally, when I get to the base case the f argument to apply should actually be an integer, violating the type signature anyway. Does anyone know how to deal with this sort of problem?

• Algorithm to classify a list of products?

  I have a list representing products which are more or less the same. For instance, in the list below, they are all Seagate hard drives. Seagate Hard Drive 500Go Seagate Hard Drive 120Go for laptop Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3500418AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive New and shinny 500Go hard drive from Seagate Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 Seagate FreeAgent Desk 500GB External Hard Drive Silver 7200RPM USB2.0 Retail For a human being, the hard drives 3 and 5 are the same. We could go a little bit further and suppose that the products 1, 3, 4 and 5 are the same and put in other categories the product 2 and 6. We have a huge list of products that I would like to classify. Does anybody have an idea of what would be the best algorithm to do such thing. Any suggestions? I though of a Bayesian classifier but I am not sure if it is the best choice. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

• preventing jCarousel form returning to begining position after loading page

  Hi all, i am using jCarousel as a menu in my website. there is a list of links there which is longer than its containing elements and jCarousel is used as a scroll bar to view that list. my problem is that whenever a link is clicked and a new page is loaded, jCarousel resets to its begining position thus sometimes an active link is no longer visible after the page reloads. any idea how i can make jCarousel focus on the specific active link? you can see an example of what i mean here: http://174.133.190.8/~goldarch/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=50&Itemid=57 (check out the menu on top) thank you all.

I know I could query the table once for each word in my list, and use LIKE and the % wildcard character, but I'm wondering if there is a single query method for such a thing?

• SQL Server union selects built dynamically from list of words

  I need to count occurrence of a list of words across all records in a given table. If I only had 1 word, I could do this: select count(id) as NumRecs where essay like '%word%' But my list could be hundreds or thousands of words, and I don't want to create hundreds or thousands of sql requests serially; that seems silly. I had a thought that I might be able to create a stored procedure that would accept a comma-delimited list of words, and for each word, it would run the above query, and then union them all together, and return one huge dataset. (Sounds reasonable, right? But I'm not sure where to start with that approach...) Short of some weird thing with union, I might try to do something with a temp table -- inserting a row for each word and record count, and then returning select * from that temp table. If it's possible with a union, how? And does one approach have advantages (performance or otherwise) over the other?

  I've a nice situation, I think at beginning this a usual query but I'm having some problem trying to solve this, the situation is: I've a list of "Houses", and each house have a list of "Windows". And I want to filter for a catalog only the Houses witch have a Blue windows, so my extension method of House is something like: public static List<House> FilterByWindow (this IEnumerable<House> houses, Window blueOne){ houses.Select(p=>p.Windows.Where(q=>q.Color == blueOne.Color)); return houses.ToList(); } Is this correct or I'm losing something? • Java threads not working correctly with linkedlist

  Hi I am working on the sleeping barber problem. with the addition of having priority customer when they arrive they go in the front of the line and they are the next ones to get a haircut. • Jquery autocomplete for input form, using Textpattern category list as a source

  I'm using the Textpattern CMS to build a discussion site-- I have a firm grasp of XHTML and CSS, as well as Textpattern's template language, but PHP and Javascript are a bit beyond my cunning. On the input form to begin a new topic, users need to select a category from a list of over 5,000 options. Using the HTML select-type input element is very unwieldy, but it works. I would like to use some kind of Javascript magic to display a text-type input element that will read user input and display matches or autocomplete from the available categories, passing the required option's value into the appropriate database field. I've seen several autocomplete plugins for jquery, but the instructions presuppose that you understand how Javascript works. As I mentioned above, it's easy for me to generate the category list as a select-type input element, and I can hide that element using CSS. Is it possible to control select-list input using an autocomplete mechanism in a text-type input element? How would I do that?

  In GNU emacs, every time I hit Ctrl-x Ctrl-b to see all of my buffers, the window is split to show the buffer list, or if I have my window already split in 2 (for instance, I will have a shell running in the lower window), the buffer list appears in the other window. My desired behavior is for the buffer list to appear in my active window so that I can select the buffer I want and continue to working in the same window, rather than having to Ctrl-x Ctrl-o to the other buffer, selecting the buffer (with enter) and editing that buffer in the other window... I've googled for it but it doesn't seem to be a common desire? I wonder if anyone has an elispy (or other) solution?

• Is it possible to match with decomposed sequences in F#?

  I seem to remember an older version of F# allowing structural decomposition when matching sequences just like lists. Is there a way to use the list syntax while keeping the sequence lazy? I'm hoping to avoid a lot of calls to Seq.head and Seq.skip 1. I'm hoping for something like: let decomposable (xs:seq<'a>) = match xs with | h :: t -> true | _ -> false seq{ 1..100 } |> decomposable But this only handles lists and gives a type error when using sequences. When using List.of_seq, it seems to evaluate all the elements in the sequence, even if it is infinite.

  The input list can be more than 1 million numbers. When I run the following code with smaller 'repeats', its fine; def sample(x): length = 1000000 new_array = random.sample((list(x)),length) return (new_array) def repeat_sample(x): i = 0 repeats = 100 list_of_samples = [] for i in range(repeats): list_of_samples.append(sample(x)) return(list_of_samples) repeat_sample(large_array) However, using high repeats such as the 100 above, results in MemoryError.   I have an HTML select list which, when an item is selected, must show different information beneath it. The onclick or JQuery change events are triggered when a select list item is selected by being clicked on (mouse), but not when the user uses key presses (keyboard). Any idea what event to watch in order to determine when the selected list item has changed? • LINQ2SQL: how to merge two columns from the same table into a single list

  this is probably a simple question, but I'm only a beginner so... Suppose I have a table containing home-work locations (cities) certain people use. Something like: ID(int), namePerson(string), homeLocation(string), workLocation(string) where homeLocation and workLocation can both be null. Now I want all the different locations that are used merged into a single list. Something like: var homeLocation = from hm in Places where hm.Home != null select hm.Home; var workLocation = from wk in Places where wk.Work != null select wk.Work; List<string> locationList = new List<string>(); locationList = homeLocation.Distinct().ToList<string>(); locationList.AddRange(workLocation.Distinct().ToList<string>()); (which I guess would still allow duplicates if they have the same value in both columns, which I don't really want...)
