• Why doesn't my implementation of ElGamal work for long text strings?

  I'm playing with the El Gamal cryptosystem, and my goal is to be able to encipher and decipher long sequences of text. I have come up with a method that works for short sequences, but does not work for long sequences, and I cannot figure out why. El Gamal requires the plaintext to be an integer. I have turned my string into a byte[] using the .getBytes() method for Strings, and then created a BigInteger out of the byte[]. After encryption/decryption, I turn the BigInteger into a byte[] using the .toByteArray() method for BigIntegers, and then create a new String object from the byte[]. This works perfectly when i call ElGamalEncipher with strings up to 129 characters. With 130 or more characters, the output produced from ElGamalDecipher is garbled. Can someone suggest how to solve this issue? Is this an issue with my method of turning the string into a BigInteger? If so, is there a better way to turn my string of text into a BigInteger and back? Each group has 20-200 distinct product numbers (pnumber), so there are at least a few thousand CatalogItems. I am working on formsets for the Transaction model. Instead of a single select menu with the several thousand CatalogItems for the ForeignKey field, I want to substitute three drop-down menus, for group, run, and pnumber, which uniquely identify the CatalogItem. I'd also like to limit the choices in the second two drop-downs to those runs and pnumbers which are available for the currently selected product group (I can update them via AJAX if the user changes the product group, but it's important that the initial page load as described without relying on AJAX). What's the best way to do this? As a point of departure, here's what I've tried/considered so far: My first approach was to exclude the item foreign key field from the form, add the substitute dropdowns by overriding the add_fields method of the formset, and then extract the data and populate the fields manually on the model instances before saving them. It's straightforward and pretty simple, but it's not very reusable and I don't think it is the right way to do this. My second approach was to create a new field which inherits both MultiValueField and ModelChoiceField, and a corresponding MultiWidget subclass. This seems like the right approach. As Malcolm Tredinnick put it in a django-users discussion, "the 'smarts' of a field lie in the Field class." The problem I'm having is when/where to fetch the lists of choices from the db. The code I have now does it in the Field's __init__, but that means I have to know which ProductGroup I'm dealing with before I can even define the Form class, since I have to instantiate the Field when I define the form. So I have a factory function which I call at the last minute from my view--after I know what CatalogItems I have and which product group they're in--to create form/formset classes and instantiate them. It works, but I wonder if there's a better way. After all, the field should be able to determine the correct choices much later on, once it knows its current value. Another problem is that my implementation limits the entire formset to transactions relating to (CatalogItems from) a single ProductGroup. A third possibility I'm entertaining is to put it all in the Widget class. Once I have the related model instance, or the cid, or whatever the widget is given, I can get the ProductGroup and construct the drop-downs. This would solve the issues with my second approach, but doesn't seem like the right approach.

• "Row not found or changed" Problem

  Hi there, I'm working on a SQL CE Database and get into the "Row nor found or changed" exception. The exception only occurs when I try to update. On the first Run after the insert it shows up a MemberChangeConflict which says, that my Column Created_at has in all three values (current, original, database) the same. But in a second attempt it doesn't appear anymore. The DataContext is instanciated on Startup and freed on Exit of my Local(!) Application. I use a sqlmetal generated mapping and code file. In the map I added some Associations and set the timemstamp columns UpdateCheck property to Always while all other have the setting never. The Timestamp Column is marked as isVersion="true", the Id Column as Primary Key. Since I don't dispose the datacontext I expected to be using implicit transaction. When I run the SubmitChanges Method within a TransactionScope. Can anyone tell me how I can update the timestamp within the code ? I know about the Problems one has to deal with if you dispose the datacontext. So I decided not to do this since I use a Single User Local DB Cache File. (I did already use a version where I disposed the datacontext after every usage, but this version had a real bad performance and error rate, so I decided to choose the other variant.) I got it working, but now I can't seem to get it to automatically save the file to the location without prompting the user. It needs to run every day at a specified time, so it can save the previous days leads into a .XSL file on the web host. But when I call validation on IebeUser I only get validation errors for the closedUserAnswers or the openUserAnswers as a whole. I don't get validation errors for each object with a problem which is what I need. I really need an error per instance. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Even when I call the validate method against each closedUserAnswer/openUserAnswer I still only get one per type. Here are my errors.   I'm trying to change the foreground color of the items in the ListBox individually for each item, I've already posted a similar question but this one is more concrete. I hoped that the state of the color is reserved for each item added to the ListBox, so I tried to create a property (in this case "HotkeysForeground"), bind it and change the color when the items are added in the "HotkeyManager_NewHotkey" event, the problem it's changing the foreground color for all the items in the ListBox. How can I do that per item ? • How to generate a Program template by generating an abstract class

  i have the following problem. The 1st step is to implement a program, which follows a specific protocol on startup. Therefore, functions as onInit, onConfigRequest, etc. will be necessary. (These are triggered e.g. by incoming message on a TCP Port) My goal is to generate a class for example abstract one, which has abstract functions as onInit(), etc. A programmer should just inherit from this base class and should merely override these abstract functions of the base class. The rest as of the protocol e.g. should be simply handled in the background (using the code of the base class) and should not need to appear in the programmers code. What is the correct design strategy for such tasks? and how do I deal with, that the static main method is not inheritable? What are the key-tags for this problem? (I have problem searching for a solution since I lack clear statements on this problem) Goal is to create some sort of library/class, which - included in ones code - results in executables following the protocol. EDIT (new explanation): Okay let me try to explain more detailled: In this case programs should be clients within a client server architecture. We have a client server connection via TCP/IP. Each program needs to follow a specific protocol upon program start: As soon as my program starts and gets connected to the server it will receive an Init Message (TcpClient), when this happens it should trigger the function onInit(). (Should this be implemented by an event system?) After onInit() a acknowledgement message should be sent to the server. Afterwards there are some other steps as e.g. a config message from the server which triggers an onConfig and so on. Let's concentrate on the onInit function. The idea is, that onInit (and onConfig and so on) should be the only functions the programmer should edit while the overall protocol messaging is hidden for him. Therefore, I thought using an abstract class with the abstract methods onInit(), onConfig() in it should be the right thing. The static Main class I would like to hide, since within it e.g. there will be some part which connects to the tcp port, which reacts on the Init Message and which will call the onInit function. 2 problems here: 1. the static main class cant be inherited, isn it? 2. I cannot call abstract functions from the main class in the abstract master class. Let me give an Pseudo-example for my ideas: public abstract class MasterClass { static void Main(string[] args){ 1. open TCP connection 2. waiting for Init Message from server 3. onInit(); 4. I need to pass the params selected from one screen using Bundle and / or Intent to the next and then set the correct tab in TabHost and pass those params to the correct tab. I hope that makes sense. In Clevel I have to parse the bundle and operate on those params. Basiclaly I will be pulling data froma DB and using that data to call google maps ItemizedOverlay. onClick calls Clevel.class using Intent. This works and I understand how Intent works. What I need to understand is how to grab or reference the selected radio button and whatever else may be clicked or checked and pass it through TabHost to the correct Tab. This is what I have in Clevel for TabHost. TL;DR - I need to echo within a loop if the item going through the loop exists within another array.

• Performing Aggregate Functions on Multi-Million Row Tables

  I'm having some serious performance issues with a multi-million row table that I feel I should be able to get results from fairly quick. Here's a run down of what I have, how I'm querying it, and how long it's taking: I'm running SQL Server 2008 Standard, so Partitioning isn't currently an option I'm attempting to aggregate all views for all inventory for a specific account over the last 30 days.
