• Updating MS - Access fields through MS-Excel cells

  Hi everyone.... Consider that i have an excel workbook and an access table not necessarily having a similar structure (i.e. They may not have same number of columns) When i open the workbook the rows in the excel sheet get populated by the rows in access table (copied from the access table into the excel sheet's particular range of cells specified using macros). Then i modify certain cells in the excel sheet. I also have a button called "Save" in the excel sheet. When pressed, this will execute a macro. My question how can i update the access table to reflect the changes in the excel sheet when the save button is clicked...? Thanks for your time and suggestions...!

• VS 2008 and F# Feb CTP - Can't debug

  I have downloaded the VS2008 integrated shell, and the F# Feb CTP and I have the F# environment working just fine. The problem comes when I try to debug. Nothing happens at all. The output window says ------ Build started: Project: ConsoleApplication1, Configuration: Debug Any CPU ------ ========== Build: 1 succeeded or up-to-date, 0 failed, 0 skipped ========== and none of my breakpoints are hit. My "program" is as simple as can be #light open System printfn "Hello World" Console.ReadKey(true) with breakpoints on the printfn and Console lines. The things I've read seem to suggest that debugging would work with this setup, and there is a debugger folder under common7/packages with files in it. Thanks for any help. EDIT: I'm on Win7 64 bit

It looks like a very confusing "open question" and the candidates are probably expected to ask more questions about the requirements: what the nodes and edges are, how they are serialized themselves, is this graph weighted, directed, etc., how many nodes/edges are in the graph.What about the infrastructure ? Is it a plain file system or we should/can use a database ? So, how would you answer this question ?

  Hi all, I have this generic routine that I wrote that takes a list of sql strings and executes them against the database. Is there any way I can make this work faster? Typically it'll see maybe 200 inserts or deletes or updates at a time. Sometimes there is a mixture of updates, inserts and deletes. Would it be a good idea to separate the queries by type (i.e. group inserts together, then updates and then deletes)? I am running this against an ms access database and using vb.net 2005. • What is the flag to show the nesting of views in a Mac app?

  I have just spet the last few hours trying to find the flag to use in Terminal to launch an app with the colored outlines around the various view elements to show how they are nested. I know that Matt Gemmell covered it during the Cocoa Face Off session of NSConference 2009 (at about the 13minute mark in the video). Unfortunately I can't actually read what he types and he doesn't speak the exact command. I know it has to be in the Apple docs somewhere but the search system is currently not being of any use. It looks like her just adds -showAllViews YES to the end of the command to open TextEdit but that command has no effect in 10.6.6. I have also tried every other capitalization I can think of as well as using view instead of views. Every command opens TextEdit just fine but doesn't show the colored outlines.

• How to transfer large files from desktop to server ( .NET)

  I am writing a .NET 2.0 based desktop client that will send large files ( well largish under 2GB) to a server. Need to develop the server as well. Server can be on any technology It should be secure so an underlying SSL stream is needed What are my options. Any obvious caveats etc I should be aware of To my mind the simplest solution is to open a tcp\ip connection over SSL to the server and send n packets each of size M bytes and then have the server append the chunks to the file and finally send an EOF packet as well IS this horrible. Will the perf suck on the server with all these disk writes What are any other clever options. I am limited to .NET 2.0 on the client if I did move to a WCF client will it buy be something magical and cool for this scenario Thanks

• Getting a table's values into a tree

  So, I have a table like such: id|root|kw1|kw2|kw3|kw4|kw5|name 1| A| B| C| D| E| F|fileA 2| A| B| | | | |fileB 3| B| C| D| E| | |fileC 4| A| B| | | | |fileD (several hundred rows...) And I need to get it into a tree like the following: *A *B -fileB -fileD *C *D *E *F -fileA *B *C *D *E -fileC I'm pretty sure the table is laid out poorly but it's what I have to live with. I've read a little about Adjacency List Model & Modified Preorder Tree Traversal but I don't think my data is laid out correctly. I think this requires a recursive function, but I'm not at all sure how to go about that. I'm open to any ideas of how to get this done even if it means extracting the data into a new table just to process this. Are there any good options available to me or any good ways to do this? (Examples are a bonus of course)

• Show surrounding words when searching for a specific word in a text file (Ruby)

  Hi, I'm very new to ruby. I'm trying to search for any instance of a word in a text file (not the problem). Then when the word is discovered, it would show the surrounding text (maybe 3-4 words before and after the target word, instead of the whole line), output to a list of instances and continue searching. Example "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog." Search word = "jumped" Output = "...brown fox jumped over the..." Any help is appreciated. Thanks! • While in CMD shell, copying files from host OS to guest VM locks files (VMware Player/Workstation)

  We're running the latest versions of VMWare Player and Workstation for Windows. The following behavior is identical across both products. Problem: We open a CMD prompt in our guest OS (XP, Vista, Windows 7) and copy files from our host OS using the standard CMD shell copy command: copy z:\C$\testfiles The copy completes successfully, but from that point forward, all the files that were copied to our guest OS are now LOCKED on our host OS. This does not happen if we use Windows Explorer to copy files - it only happens when files are copied via the CMD shell. As mentioned at the start of this question, this behavior is reproducible in both VMWare Player and VMWare Workstation across multiple machines and multiple guest OS's. I've googled for a workaround, but without success. Any ideas appreciated. Malcolm

  My understanding is that VMMs such as VMware's ESXi Server maintain shadow page tables to map virtual page addresses of guest operating systems directly to machine (hardware) addresses. I've been told that shadow page tables are then used directly by the processor's paging hardware to allow memory access in the VM to execute without translation overhead. I would like to understand a bit more about how the shadow page table mechanism works in a VMM. Is my high level understanding above correct? What kind of data structures are used in the implementation of shadow page tables? What is the flow of control from the guest operating system all the way to the hardware? How are memory access translations made for a guest operating system before its shadow page table is populated? How is page sharing supported? Short of straight up reading the source code of an open source VMM, what resources can I look into to learn more about hardware virtualization?

• UIActionSheet Cancel button keeps crashing my app

  I am really puzzeled by this one. I have set up two UIActionSheets in my application. They work perfectly fine until you use the cancel button in the UIActionSheets. • Get local network interface addresses using only proc?

  How can I obtain the (IPv4) addresses for all network interfaces using only proc? After some extensive investigation I've discovered the following: ifconfig makes use of SIOCGIFADDR, which requires open sockets and advance knowledge of all the interface names. It also isn't documented in any manual pages on Linux. proc contains /proc/net/dev, but this is a list of interface statistics. proc contains /proc/net/if_inet6, which is exactly what I need but for IPv6. Generally interfaces are easy to find in proc, but actual addresses are very rarely used except where explicitly part of some connection. There's a system call called getifaddrs, which is very much a "magical" function you'd expect to see in Windows. It's also implemented on BSD. However it's not very text-oriented, which makes it difficult to use from non-C languages.

• autocomplete issue with iScroll

  I am using jQuery Autocomplete on my jQUeryMobile application. It works perfect. Now I'm trying to use iScroll.js to scroll through the list of looked up items. Here is what I'am doing, http://jsfiddle.net/uXbKY/39/ The problem is, iscroll is applying only for the first item of the suggestion box, where as I'm not able to scroll through entire list.Please help me if I'm missing anything in my code.Please help me to acheive this using iScoll. • How does Google implement Microsoft Exchange access?

  I know with Android 2.x there is the ability to tap into Microsoft Exchange, for at least email, if not calendar and contacts. I would like to see how this was accomplished. Particularly because Microsoft Exchange exposes SOAP web services, and I understand there is no native Android support for SOAP. Since this is open source, shouldn't I be able to find something in the Android source? If so, can you point me in the right direction of where to find it in the ~4Gig (!) source? I want to develop an application that accesses Exchange contacts and calendars, but don't want to reinvent that piece. Any other guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

• Disabling security warning caused by BaseIntermediateOutputPath?

  Hi all, Our team overrides BaseIntermediateOutputPath (and other related properties) in our Visual Studio projects in order to have build artifacts go outside the main tree. However, this causes an annoying warning dialog to appear when you open a project for the first time in a new location (which happens on new machines, when you check out a branch to a new location, have to delete corrupted .suo/.user files, etc.). Is there any way to disable the warning? FYI, we are using Visual Studio 2008, and we have encountered this warning on Windows XP as well as Windows 7, so it is not UAC-related.

• Nagios plugin script not working as expected

  I have modified an off-the-shelf Nagios plugin perl script to (in theory) return a one or zero according to the existence, or not, of a file on a remote linux server. The script runs a remote ssh session and logs in as the nagios user. The remote linux servers have private keys setup for that user, and on the bash command line the script works as expected, but when run as a plugin it always returns '1' (true) even if the file does not exist. Some help with the logic or a comment on why things are not working as expected within Nagios would be appreciated. I'd prefer to use this ssh login method rather than having to install nrpe on all the linux servers. • Error Exception 2048 on my website using OpenClassifieds software

  I have a website called e-waitress.net, it is a jobs employment website for the restaurant industry. I installed an open source program called OpenClassifieds and a couple days after installing the OpenClassifieds, I get an error message when I enter my url that is this: ErrorException [ 2048 ]: date_default_timezone_get(): It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. You are required to use the date.timezone setting or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected 'America/New_York' for 'EDT/-4.0/DST' instead ~ APPPATH/ko322/classes/kohana/date.php [ 592 ] I am wondering is this a server issue with my host provider or is it within the OpenClassifieds installation software? I've reinstalled the software twice and it's returned this error after a couple days of working great. Any ideas?

• How to receive HTTP messages using Socket

  I'm using Socket class for my web client. I can't use HttpWebRequest since it doesn't support socks proxies. So I have to parse headers and handle chunked encoding by myself. The most difficult thing is to determine length of content so I have to read it byte-by-byte. First I have to use ReadByte() to find last header ("\r\n\r\n" combination), then read chunk's size etc. But this approach has very poor performance. Can you suggest better solution? Maybe some open source examples or libraries that handle http request through sockets (not very big and complicated though, I'm a noob)

I'm trying to use PHP and fgetcsv to create arrays for each separate piece of data to use PHP to put it into the html code. I know how to open the csv file and to print it using PHP, and how to print each separate row, but not each piece of data separated by a comma. Is there a way to do this? • How to detect crashing tabed webbrowser and handle it?

  I have a desktop application (forms) with a tab control, I assign a tab and a new custom webrowser control. I open up about 10 of these tabs. Each one visits about 100 - 500 different pages. The trouble is that if 1 webbrowser control has a problem it shuts down the entire program. I want to be able to close the offending webbrowser control and open a new one in it's place. Is there any event that I need to subscribe to catch a crashing or unresponsive webbrowser control ?   Okay I just started with Django and it's totally different from PHP. I installed Python 2.6 and Django. Both are located in my C drive. C: Django build django docs Python26 I am doing the django site tutorial and when they say to write django-admin.py startproject mysite from my Python command line, I keep getting: Syntax error: invalid syntax >>>django-admin.py startproject mysite FILE "<stdin>", line 1 django-admin.py startproject mysite ^ My django-admin.py is in the django/bin folder. I installed Python via python setup.py. Am I suppose to use my window's CP? When I do that, I get window's can't open a .py file. I thought I was just creating a folder? How do I create a project with django? Thanks :)
