  • Is it allowed to load Swing classes in non-EDT thread?

    After the introduction of Java Memory Model, the Swing guidelines were changed to state that any Swing components need to be instantiated on the EDT in order to avoid non-published instance state. What I could not find anywhere is whether the classloading is also mandated to be on the EDT or can we pre-load key Swing classes in a background thread? Is there any official statement from Sun/Oracle on this? Are there any classes that are known to hold non-threadsafe static state, hence need to be loaded on EDT?

  • How to generate a random number, then display it on screen?

    Ok, im fairly new to android but i have managed to teach myself the basics, i am making an app where you press a button , and a new screen opens and it shows a randomly generated number, the only problem is i dont know how to generate and display the random number, i have been searching the web for ages and have only found little snippets of information , that dosent really make sense to me. :/ If someone could help me , or even give me just a little bit of info that should guide me in the right direction it would be great

  • Are Ms-PL and Apache License Version 2.0 Compatible?

    I need to use two libraries in a commercial product that i'm developing at work. One library is under the Ms-PL license and the other is under Apache License Version 2.0. I know that Ms-PL is not compatible with GPL according to the FSF, and that the Apache License Version 2.0 is only compatible with GPLv3 (and not with GPLv1 or GPLv2). But i don't know if both licenses are compatible. Any help would be appreciated, even if it is that it is impossible :)

    I'd like to create an MDI application using SWT. I've done extensive searches and reach that the Decorations Object is the one responsable for trying supporting behavior.   • ASP.NET MVC Cookie loses value when page is changed

    When a user logs in to my site, I create a cookie with some info in it. However, whenever they change page from logging in, the cookie loses it's value. Cookie is still there but it's empty. I've checked my code and the cookie doesn't get rewritten by anything I've done. Does anyone have any idea to why the cookie becomes empty when the page is changed?

I.e. we do not want to duplicate variables so each process will be able to read them. Additionally, DB solution is no good, as we do not want to be dependent on DB for something like configuration.     I have been trying to find info on the web about the differences between these statements, and it seems to me they are identical but I can't find confirmation of that or any kind of comparison between the two. What is the difference between doing this: BEGIN -- Some update, insert, set statements END and doing this BEGIN TRANS -- Some update, insert, set statements COMMIT TRANS ? Note that there is only the need to rollback in the case of some exception or timeout or other general failure, there would not be a conditional reason to rollback.
