  • Custom RoleProvider with MVC 2.0 webconfig

    I have a custom MembershipProvider and a custom RoleProvider. I created the custom MembershipProvider by creating a SimpleMembershipProvider class which implements the MembershipProvider class. After that I changed my web.config and works. So I used the same approach creating a custom RoleProvider. Nothing special, just creating a SimpleRoleProvider class which implements the RoleProvider class. But then when I changed the web.config file and runs the solution I get the following error message: Web.Config <membership defaultProvider="DashboardMembershipProvider"> <providers> <clear/> <add name="SimpleMembershipProvider" type="Dashboard.Web.Controlling.Account.SimpleMembershipProvider" /> </providers> </membership> <roleManager enabled="true" defaultProvider="DashboardRoleProvider"> <providers> <clear/> <add name="DashboardRoleProvider" type="Dashboard.Web.Controlling.Account.DashboardRoleProvider" /> </providers> </roleManager> Configuration Error Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. And tried on the type attribute, which generates the following errors: Configuration Error Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Parser Error Message: Could not load file or assembly 'Dashboard.Web.Controlling.Account' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.     Hi, I am making a call to a controller action in javascript using the getJson method. I need to pass two parameters to my action method on the controller, but I am struggling to do so. I do not fully understand the routing tables and not sure if this is what I need to use to get this working.     Hello everybody, I have [DisplayName("Country")] public List<SelectListItem> Countries { get; set; } property in Model class for DropDownList. When I try to check if the ModelState.IsValid on form postback it's always false & error for Countries tells "Can't convert [value] to SelectListItem" or some of a kind. I figured out there is no straight-forward mapping for drop down selected value (looks like I'll have to read value from Form value collection), but how can I ignore binding and validation for List property? I just want to make ModelState.IsValid attribute to be true if all the other fields are populated properly. Thank you in advance

    Hi, I have custom class level validation attribute, inheriting from ValidationAttribute, on my model. How come it doesn't register a key in the ModelState when its IsValid is false? I can see the the error message in the ModelState.Values collection, but the ModelState.Keys collection only shows an empty string "". Can I provide a key for it - presumably this is because its not assigned to a property? I wanna be able to use ModelState.Remove in my controller to remove this error upon a certain condition, but I have no Key! Any ideas?

    I have a POST method declared in my controller: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult UpdateComments(int id, string comments) { // ... } and an ActionLink in my view: <%= Ajax.ActionLink("update", "UpdateComments", new { id = Model.Id, comments = "test" }, new AjaxOptions { HttpMethod="POST", OnFailure="alert('fail');", OnSuccess = "alert('success');" })%> I get a "not found" error when it tries to route this request. If I remove the POST restriction from the UpdateComments method in the controller, it works fine. What am I missing?

When the code reaches the 1st statement: string username = User.Identity.Name; Debugging stops and I am presented with a message that says that the test failed. Any guidance you can offer would be appreciated.

    Hello All: I have one application in which I want to pass data between Pages (Views) without sessions. Actually I want to apply some settings to all the pages using query string. For example if my link is like "http://example.com?data=test1", then I want to append this query string to all the link there after and if there is no query string then normal flow. I was thinking if there is any way that if we get the query string in any link for the web application then some application level user specific property can be set which can be used for subsequent pages.     I have the following two lines in the head section in my masterpage: <link rel="shortcut icon" href="/Content/Images/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" /> <link rel="icon" href="/Content/Images/favicon.ico" type="image/ico" /> However, the favicon is not displayed in Internet Explorer (version 6, 7, 8). In Firefox and Safari the favicon works fine. I have even tried to replace href with the URL to my website (http://www......./Content/Images/favicon.ico) but that still does not work in Internet Explorer. Am I missing something?

    Ok, this is driving me nuts. I have been trying to figure this out forever now. I want to to perform an async upload using ajaxFileUpload. I have it posting the file to my controller just fine, however, when i try to return a JsonResult from it, I get a "Save File As" dialog box. I have tried everything to get around this and i either get an error or the "Save As" dialog. Im assuming that it has something to do with the content type that is being passed in when the file gets posted. I would be greatly appreciative if anyone could help. Thanks in advance!

Now I would like to change submit method from <input type="submit" id="testClick" value="Submit" /> To some javascript method DoSubmit(). What I tried is : Invoke click on that submit button Invoke submit on form ('form1').submit(), document.forms['form1'].submit() jQuery forms with ('form1').AjaxSubmit(); Create jQuery AJAX $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: $("#form1").attr("action"), data: $("#form1").serialize(), success: function() { alert("epic win!!!1!1!") }, error: function(XMLHttpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown) { alert("epic fail!") } }); All those method created normal request (not AJAX), or they didn't work. So anyone know how I can do AJAX submit "Form", from JavaScript and strongly typed mechanism (public AcrionResult MyFormAction(FormModel model); ) will work?

  • Help with route rewrite in asp.net mvc

    Im having a really hard time understanding routing. Please help me with this problem. Each of my controllers have these three actions right now Users have Index, Create and Edit Locations have Index, Create and Edit Companies have Index, Create and Edit The thing is, it all gets done through ajax. I have jquery ui tabs with two tabs for each, Create and Edit So the Index method is always the one that gets called for action links. and inside this main view is that you can call(by clicking on the tab icon) the other methods that return an ajax view that gets output into the jqeury tab (I hope thats clear) I have a sidebar with links to the controllers. and to specific methods of these controllers. The wanted behavior is that it should actually go into the Index Method and then with some logic autoload the wanted tab. It all works just fine right now. But my urls are horrible. To get to the create method for Users I have to go this url http://localhost/Users/Index/1 http://localhost/Users/Index/2 I want the behavior of these links to be remapped to these links http://localhost/Users/Create http://localhost/Users/Edit So even though it seems as if you are calling the Create method of the controller you are actualling always calling the Index Method.... (I know how to transform Create into "1" and Edit into two, so dont worry about that part Hope thats clear. Thanks in advance Edit: Just realized that this might not be possible cause then when I actually need to call the methods (with ajax) it wont know what to do.... am I correct?

    Fellow stack overflowers, I'm currently working on a project that has a sizable amount of both client and web code. The client code is written in C# and the web piece is written in PHP. Maintaining consistency between the two worlds is becoming cumbersome, and I want consolidate the web code to .Net. The issue is that I hate web development in ASP.Net Web Forms. I want something as raw as PHP, just using C# instead. I've read a little about ASP.Net MVC, but it looks like it abstracts too much of the request logic for my liking. Does anyone know of a lightweight way to allow C# + .Net to handle web requests? Should I be looking more closely at MVC? Thanks in advance, -- Breck

    Hello, I have a service which has a method that's called when a certain controller method is triggered. My service returns a custom result object PlacementResult in which I want to communicate errors that may have happened (validation) back to the controller method. Should PlacementResult have a ModelState or a ModelStateDictionary to communicate errors back to the controller (and finally view)? How would I string this together? Finally, how do I get the ModelState/ModelStateDictionary (whichever you tell me I should choose) back into the view (highlighting the appropriate text box, show the error message etc.)? Thank you !

  • Custom Errors "Could no load type error"

    I am creating ASP.Net MVC application and want to handle errors globally. I have set web.config value as mode=On and defaulRedirect="Error.aspx". I have Error.aspx at two places. One at Views/Shared folder and one at project root folder level. But each time an unhandled error occurs, the error page at root level gets called. How can I make it redirect to the one at Shared folder level? I want to do this becasuse, currently I am getting error as "could not load type System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage" when any error is occuring.
