• What static analysis tools are available for C#?

  What tools are there available for static analysis against C# code? I know about FxCop and StyleCop. Are there others? I've run across NStatic before but it's been in development for what seems like forever - it's looking pretty slick from what little I've seen of it, so it would be nice if it would ever see the light of day. Along these same lines (this is primarily my interest for static analysis), tools for testing code for multithreading issues (deadlocks, race conditions, etc.) also seem a bit scarce. Typemock Racer just popped up so I'll be looking at that. Anything beyond this? Real-life opinions about tools you've used are appreciated.

• Action Controller: Exception - ID not found

  Hi Everyone, I am slowly getting the hang of Rails and thanks to a few people I now have a basic grasp of the database relations and associations etc. You can see my previous questions here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2714621/rails-database-relationships I have setup my applications models with all of the necessary has_one and has_many :through etc. but when I go to add a kase and choose from a company from the drop down list - it doesnt seem to be assigning the company ID to the kase. When I just ret without calling exit(), the application does not terminate and needs to be killed. Could anyone shed some light on this? It only happens when I make the call to SDL_SetVideoMode().

• Getting Windows XP colours in .NET

  I am trying to get a specific colour used by Windows XP in my .NET application. In Windows XP, if you go the Control Panel in 'category view', on the left hand side you have some 'See Also' options (Windows Update, Help and Support, Other Control Panel Options). The colour I'm trying to get is the light blue background colour shown behind these options. I don't need the hex/RGB value of the colour, as it can change depending on the style settings used on the desktop. My question is - is it possible to programmatically get hold of this colour in a .NET app? The colour doesn't appear to be in SystemColors, although it's very similar to SystemColors.InactiveCaptionText (and I think I can probably get away with using this). I'm just wondering if there is a way to get hold of the exact colour.

• Interface Builder - XCode link broken with iPad-converted xib

  In porting my app to a universal iPhone / iPad app, the xibs I created by using Interface Builder's "Create iPad Version" will not link to the project properly: They don't pick up on classes and images from the project file. IB tells me that "there is no xcode project associated with this document" with a gray light in the status bar. Yet the xib is in the project, was launched by double-clicking in xcode, and both are open. The old xibs work fine though. I don't understand what could be causing this. So, my question is, how do I restore the link?

• difference in logging mechanism: API and application(python)

  I am currently writing an API and an application which uses the API. I have gotten suggestions from people stating that I should perform logging using handlers in the application and use a "logger" object for logging from the API. • Two windows fullscreen on two different screen.

  Hi! I'm actually working on an app to display an image onto a Dome. The dome projection system is constitued of two projector and a pc running a GentoO Linux and KDE, with nvidia TwinView system. Since here i've used SDL to display a fullscreen windows, and it display my app onto the two screen. But i just figured that i need to project two different images, one on each projector. That's why i search for a solution to display a fullscreen window on the first screen (projector) and another on the second. But SDL fullscreen just extend the window to the two screens. I can use any librairie (since it light and free, as i will wrap it into my small "API"), or change display setting. BTW it would be nice to have openGL support, since SDL manage only one window ^^"

  Let's say I have the MSP430 assembly segment below: r15: 439c Memory map: 4390: 6045 0200 9c43 6400 8844 5044 363a 0000 Code: 448a: cmp #0x363a, 0x0(r15) 4490: jnz $+0x1c 4492: Code continues . . . 44ac: Jump to location The goal is to have the Z flag high. To do this with a cmp, both src and dst must be equal. If I have 363a in the memory location of r15, why is it that the resulting cmp does not trigger the Z flag? Through experimentation, I found that putting 3a36 in the memory location of r15 did in fact trigger the Z flag, but I don't understand why. If anyone could bring this to light, I would greatly appreciate it. If more information is needed, I will gladly provide it.

• Problem with a SQL statement

  I'm trying to enter values into a database table using a form and a PHP function. The PHP seems to be fine as the SQL statement it creates looks okay, but the database always throws up an error. This is the SQL statement that my code has generated (with arbitrary values): INSERT INTO Iteminfo ('itemName', 'itemSeller', 'itemCategory', 'itemDescription', 'itemPrice', 'itemPostage', 'itemBegin', 'itemEnd', 'buynow', 'itemPicture') values ('gorillaz album', 'ben', 'music', 'new one ', '5.00', '1.00', '2010-03-15 14:59:51', '2010-03-16 14:59:51', '0', 'http://www.thefader.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/gorillaz-plastic-beach.jpg') This throws up an error both when I use the PHP function to evaluate the query and also when I use phpMyAdmin to enter the query manually. However, I can't see anything wrong with it. Can anyone shed some light on this? All of the fields are VARCHAR values, except for itemPrice and itemPostage (which are stored as DECIMAL(4,2)) and the itemBegin and itemEnd, which are stored as DATETIMEs.

• How to get Jquery form plugin and Jquery validation to work together.

  Hello guys, I was hoping someone can shed some light on what might be occurring on my page. Okay what I currently have on my page is a simple form that collects first name, last name, city, state and email. Once submitted it will hit a PHP page that updates our DB and echo's back to the designted div with a class of .response. I am using jquery.validation and placing that dynamic function within the submitHandler like so: submitHandler: function(form) { $(form).ajaxSubmit({ target: '.response', // target element(s) to be updated with server response resetForm: true, success: function() { $('#commentform').hide(); $('.response').show(); } }); So what I am getting is a div that is not being populated with the echo from my php file in FF and in IE I am getting the message of thank you but the page is taking me to the update.php script in which I have the form action pointing to. • Getting started with silverlight 3 mvvm

  I've just written my first silverlight 3 app. It's written using the code behind in a rater messy way. I want to refactor into mvvm. I'm finding it extremely difficult to find any tutorials on this. So far from what I can gather I'll probably need a mvvm framework. Mvvm-light toolkit sounds like it might be what I want, but I can't find a beginners tutorial. This is actually more frustrating than I thought - do I actually need a framework? Would I maybe be better just trying to do this from scratch with out a framework? How did you get started with silverlight and mvvm? Also I'm using vs2008 so silverlight 4 is a non starter for me. However, the HQL parser seems to be ignoring my parenthesis, thus changing the meaning of my statement. Can anyone shed any light on the matter?   From the preface of the second edition of Kernighan and Ritchie's "The C Programming Language": As before, all examples have been tested directly from the text, which is in machine-readable form. That quote threw me for a loop. What exactly does it mean? Was the original manuscript written as a literate program? My first thought was that this book, published in 1988 (original, first edition in 1978) predates literate programming, but now I'm not so sure. Can anybody shed some light on this?

• Adding HTML to the DOM through the client.

  Hi all Just wanted your views on the most efficient way to render content on demand, the reason this has come to light is that I'm maintaining a AA compliant website and we recently added video to it, and one of the techniques to avoid invalidation was to add the HTML for the video to the DOM after the page has loaded - which is fine and working ok. However, I found 2 possible techniques and I would appreciate some views, the one I'm currently using is an AJAX call that returns the HTML, the other technique is a hidden field that contains the HTML - I'm presently using the former. The main reason I'm asking the question is because there may be times when this particular control is also requested via an AJAX call, so I would end up with back-to-back AJAX calls, which seems a bit inefficient to me. I hope this makes sense, are there any better techniques to achieve this? Am I worrying too much over the consecutive AJAX calls? Thanks

• Using JavaScript eval to parse JSON

  Question: I'm using eval to parse a JSON return value from one of my WebMethods. I prefer not to add jquery-json because the transfer volume is already quite large. So I parse the JSON return value with eval. Now rumors go that this is insecure. Why ? Nobody can modify the JSOn return value unless they hack my server, in which case I would have a much larger problem anyway. And if they do it locally, JavaScript only executes in their browser. So I fail to see where the problem is.   Hi I'm somewhat of a newbie to python and I'm using app engine and aptanna studio - I need to run some python shell commands so that i can complete the tasks in this Tutorial on how to set up 118 and django. I have got this all working but i don't understand how i run the python commands to compile the dictionarys such as $ PYTHONPATH=/path/to/googleappengine/python/lib/django/ /path/to/googleappengine/python/lib/django/django/bin/make-messages.py -a To be honest - why am i saying that! I dont know where in aptanna studio i run this command -then worse I don't quite understand what exactly i type based on the above command line. My path to google app engine is D:\Program Files\Google\google_appengine\ Can anyone help shed some light on how i do this from aptanna / the root of my project?? • Presenting MVC to Old C++ Spaghetti Coders?

  I wish to present the idea of MVC to a bunch of old C++ spaghetti coders (at my local computer club). One of them that has alot of influence on the rest of the group seems to finally be getting the idea of encapsulation (largely due in part to this website). I was hoping that I could also point him in the right direction by showing him Model View Controller, but I need to do it in a way that makes sense to him, as well as it probably needs to be written in C/C++! I realize that MVC is a very old architectural pattern so it would seem to me that there should be something out there that would do the job. I'm more of a web developer, so I was wondering if anybody out there who is a good C/C++ coder could tell me what it is that made the MVC light switch turn on in your head.

• Grails application hogging too much memory

  Tomcat 5.5.x and 6.0.x Grails 1.6.x Java 1.6.x OS CentOS 5.x (64bit) VPS Server with memory as 384M export JAVA_OPTS='-Xms128M -Xmx512M -XX:MaxPermSize=1024m' I have created a blank Grails application i.e simply by giving the command grails create-app and then WARed it I am running Tomcat on a VPS Server When I simply start the Tomcat server, with no apps deployed, the free memory is about 236M and used memory is about 156M When I deploy my "blank" application, the memory consumption spikes to 360M and finally the Tomcat instance is killed as soon as it takes up all free memory As you have seen, my app is as light as it can be. Not sure why the memory consumption is as high it is. I am actually troubleshooting a real application, but have narrowed down to this scenario which is easier to share and explain.

• In SICP exercise 2.26 using DrScheme, why does cons return a list, instead of a pair of lists?

  In SICP exercise 2.26, this Scheme code is given: (define x (list 1 2 3)) (define y (list 4 5 6)) Then this cons call is given: (cons x y) I expected a pair of lists would result, ((1 2 3) (4 5 6)) but the interpreter gives, ((1 2 3) 4 5 6) ...a list with 4 elements, the first being a list. Why is y treated differently? I've tried looking up other SICP answers for an explanation, but couldn't find something satisfactory. So could any Scheme/Lisp experts please shed some light on this aspect of cons? Thanks in advance for any insight.

  Hello, So i decide to to develop my asp.net site into Silverlight. I today start to search articles about MVVM pattern which i want use in my Silverlight app, and i am confused :/ It's hart to me understand how works this pattern. I am find 3 frameworks which supports MVVM pattern in Silverlight - Caliburn, MVVM Light Toolkit and GoodLight. Should i start from own implementation of pattern or use framework? Is this frameworks only a project solutions in which i can insert my code? Which framework is the best for novice and which for professional? I ask for this, cause i must start to rewrite my app from asp.net to Silverlight and i don't know that i can do it first and later (when i understand MVVM pattern and framework) implement this pattern in finished app ? Or from begining rewrite project to MVVM framework?
