  • MVC 1.0 + EF: Does db.EntitySet.where(something) still return all rows in table?

    In a repository, I do this: public AgenciesDonor FindPrimary(Guid donorId) { return db.AgenciesDonorSet.Include("DonorPanels").Include("PriceAdjustments").Include("Donors").First(x => x.Donors.DonorId == donorId && x.IsPrimary); } then down in another method in the same repository, this: AgenciesDonor oldPrimary = this.FindPrimary(donorId); In the debugger, the resultsview shows all records in that table, but: oldPrimary.Count(); is 1 (which it should be). Why am I seeing all table entries retrieved, and not just 1? I thought row filtering was done in the DB. If db.EntitySet really does fetch everything to the client, what's the right way to keep the client data-lite using EF? Fetching all rows won't scale for what I'm doing.

    Using a three-tier architecture, I have a list of objects List<object> careerList = new List<object>(); ModuleDTO module = new ModuleDTO(); careerList = module.getDegreeCodeByQualification(qualificationCode); which I then add to a gridview like so: gridViewMaster.DataSource = careerList; gridViewMaster.DataBind(); What I'd like to do is then enable paging on the gridview. My gridview so far is: <asp:GridView ID="gridViewMaster" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False" GridLines="None" BorderWidth="1px" CellPadding="2" DataKeyNames="Grouping" ForeColor="Black" onrowdatabound="gridViewMaster_RowDataBound" CssClass="mGrid" PagerStyle-CssClass="pgr" AlternatingRowStyle-CssClass="alt" OnPageIndexChanging="gridView_PageIndexChanging" AllowPaging="True" > Is it possible to do enable paging on a list's without having to change that list to a Datatable or Dataview? If there is a way, this would help a lot.     Is there a way to convert data in an existing database into objects that can easily be put into a seed method? Essentially I'd like to let some people add lines to my DB via a form and then convert that into an object that I can re-seed the DB anytime I need to make changes.     I have two projects, both of them data access layers, and both using EF. I have another project calling services related to the two different assemblies. Are there any pitfalls on using two different models on two different databases linked to the same database? I'm asking this because I've been getting this generic "EntitySqlException" could not be resolved in the current scope or context. Make sure that all referenced variables are in scope, that required schemas are loaded, and that namespaces are referenced correctly., near escaped identifier. that does not appear when are run separately but appear when under the same project.

  • WCF operationcontract with List type unavailable in (Silverlight) client

    This is the first time I have tried returning a List of data to a Silverlight client, so I'm having trouble getting the client to recognize this operationcontract. All others are fine. I have a method on the server called ReadOwFileData that needs to return a List. ReadOwFileDataCompletedEventArgs shows up in the Object Browser in the client, but not ReadOwFileDataAsync. What I want is similar to the tutorial here. The Dictionary collection type on the client is set to System.Collections.Generic.List. I tried deleting and recreating the service reference. Web.Config on the server is using basicHttpBinding.     Hi I started building apps with this technology and I am facing a weird problem... on some machines I need to add theese lines to the app.config to get to work: <system.data> <DbProviderFactories> <add name="MySQL Data Provider" invariant="MySql.Data.MySqlClient" description=".Net Framework Data Provider for MySQL" type="MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlClientFactory, MySql.Data, Version=6.3.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=c5687fc88969c44d" /> </DbProviderFactories> </system.data> while in other machines it runs well without theese lines.... the thing is that when I add theese lines the app wont run on machines that did not needed theese lines in the firs place, and I would like not to publish to versions of the app, is there a way to solve this?

  • How do I deal with connection strings in a Click-Once application?

    I'm thinking of building a Click-Once application, and am trying to wrap my head around how to handle the whole connection string issue. The problem is the following: I want to use EF to get data directly from each client, thus requiring each client to have a connection string configured (this is not the issue). How do I deal with clients that are not on the same domain as the SQL Server being queried? In other words, if I tried to run my app from home as opposed to from work, what should my connection string look like? Would I need to configure my SQL Server differently to allow this scenario?     I'm using the Linq to Entities. I've got my main table, Employee setup with a field named vendorID. Vendor ID is a foreign key into the Vendors table. As it is right now, the Employee object does not directly expose the vendorID. Instead, I can only access it this way: var employee = (from e in context.Employees.Include("tbl_vendors") where e.employeeID = 1 select e).FirstOrDefault(); //this gets the vendor ID int vendorID = employee.tbl_vendors.vendorID; That is just fine and dandy, but it is extra work on the database because it is forcing a join where none is needed. Is there a way to get that key value without being forced to do a join to the tbl_vendors table?

    Question With the following linq code snip I get a list of clients with address filtered by the specifications but the form of the entities returned is not what i had expected. The data is 1 client with 2 addresses and 1 client with 1 address. The query returns 3 rows of clients each with 1 address Client 1 = Address1 Client 1 = Address2 Client 2 = Address3 var query = from t1 in context.Clients.Where(specification.SatisfiedBy()).Include("ClientAddresses") join t2 in context.ClientAddresses.Where(spec.SatisfiedBy()) on t1.ClientKey equals t2.ClientKey select t1; My expectation was a little more like a list with only two clients in it, one client with a collection of two addresses and one client with a collection of one address. As far as I understand, it means that I can set up certain conditions for the columns and when data is inserted it needs to fulfill these conditions. For example: if I set up a rule that an ID needs to consist of 5 integers ONLY then when I insert a row with ID which is made up of integers and some chars then it won't accept it and return an error. The same store must be able to support multiple languages via the user's language selection and/or browser preference. I have two tables: Item (id, sku, price, ...) ItemDetails (item_id, language, title, ...) For each Item, there will be multiple rows corresponding to the item, where the (item_id,language) pair will be unique.
