  • Power manager keeps shutting down the display

    I'm probably missing something here. I'm using the default Ubuntu power manger, I set it up like this: On AC: no screen dimming when idle, never put computer to sleep, never put display to sleep. On battery: I kept the default settings. Still, Ubuntu does whatever it likes, and after 15 min it puts the display to sleep. Does anyone have the same problem and found a way to solve it? I'm using an Eee PC with Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop.

  • Root cause for high CPU usage; which measurement to trust more: Windows Task Manager or Process Explorer?

    Consider this Windows 8.1 machine (in-place upgrade from Windows 8) with differing reports on its CPU usage. The machine is idle, and has been for 3 days. There are no CPU intensive tasks running currently nor over the 3 day idle period. Windows Task Manager is reporting CPU usage constantly at an incredibly high value (and increasing over time!) at around 75%. Process Explorer from SysInternals reports that the CPU usage is much different at around 42% How does Process Explorer report 42.14% usage, but its columns report Idle at 57%, with the sum of the other processes not even approaching 10%? Which of these two values should I trust more, and why should it be trusted over the other measurement? How can I actually determine which process is causing Task Manager to report its values?     I dual-boot my laptop due to lousy VM performance, and have a new 500GB/7200rpm drive coming in to replace the stock 320GB/5400rpm drive. I have the drive set up in three partitions: one for the Win7 system files, one for storage, and the third as the ext4 Linux file system. The system file and storage partitions are both NTFS. What I'm planning to do is use the system image creator built in Win7, then move that over to the new drive. However, how can I migrate the Ubuntu partition, and how do I make sure that the Grub bootloader isn't overwritten by the Windows loader?

  • What are possible reasons why a calendar entry in OWA is at a different time than in Outlook?

    We have two Exchange 2003 servers, our primary server and a front-end server that hosts Outlook Web Access (OWA). When I open my boss' calendar via Outlook 2007 (from my Outlook client as well as hers) I see the event scheduled for 10:30 am. When I open her calendar via Outlook Web Access, the same event is scheduled for 4:30 am. I don't understand Exchange well-enough to imagine how this is possible. If you have any ideas why this could be happening, I greatly appreciate it. I'd also very much appreciate any insight you have to how this could be possible. There must be some cached data on the front-end server that causes the calendar entry to appear at a different time, I suppose. Any insight into how Exchange manages that cache and where I could look for an issue would be very helpful. Thank you!

  • Not recognized as operating system on startup

    I am new to Ubuntu and just decided to install it in (on my new lenovo thinkpad) in addition to my windows 7 operating system. Now, whenever I reboot the computer, it only runs window 7. I went (in windows) to Control Pannel ? System ? Advanced Settings ? Startup and Ubuntu is not even listed as a choice for operating system. I tried installing ubuntu again, but now it wants to partition the already partitioned windows folder. I can't figure out how to get Ubuntu, which seems to be installed, to run. I saw on another question here that I could be able to edit my mrb settings using EasyBCD but I can not figure out how to choose ubuntu as an operating system. My disk is already partitioned (seen from the attempted second install) so I'm pretty sure it is on the disk. Basically, how can I get ubuntu to run when I can't choose it as an operating system? Thank you for your help.

    I'd like to update to 11.04 from 10.10 (but I don't like upgrading system, I prefer full reinstalling) I'd like to install whole new system, but I want to keep my /home folders (Music, Movies, Documents and so on). If I keep /home while installing - this will keep all my program settings too (but I have lots of trash there too, and 'd like to clean it too). Can I delete all .folders in /home and then reinstall system (keeping old /home) ?

  • 2 Google Tag Manager containers = double triggers?

    I have a Joomla website with existing analytics done by a GTM tag and I need to add another image tag (1x1 pixel) from a separate GTM container. I set the event name for the additional GTM container to a different name from from the existing GTM container (default 'gtm.js') so that the new tag only fires under the specified event. The new container tested out fine in a blank HTML page, but when it is put in the website, it ends up firing twice. I know that because Firebug showed 2 1x1 pixels being loaded and I mark each request with a randomly-generated UID to distinguish them on the server side. I suspect this being caused by having multiple GTM container tags but want to check whether anyone has run into this problem before? As of now, I could not verify nor fix the double counting problem.

    I download an iso file and installed Ubuntu 12.04 from a USB , i had windows -7 installed already on C drive , i installed ubuntu on E drive (sda5) , after the installation completed , it asked to restart , then i restarted , but the machine automatically loads windows-7 , ubuntu doesn't show up , help me out please ! Okk , my machine doesn't support CD's , so can i do this boot repair without any Live CD !

    I have this consistent problem of RDSM crashing in Server 2008 R2. It is either really slow to open, sometimes never opens, or after it's been open and working properly for a bit, stops working, and forces an unload of the snap-in. It's done this since the deployment of this server, new hardware, new instance of S2k8. Domain Administrator login. I am using it to manage 3 Terminal Servers, the other two are S2k3. I've used it without issues on other 2008 servers.

  • User cannot book a room resource

    Im having a problem with a specific user not being able to book a room resource. No error message is generated at all. The user attempts to add the room as a meeting resource and it simply doesnt register with the resources calendar. I have tested the resource with other accounts and other rooms for this user but it is only this room that is having issues for this user. This Exchange server was migrated from 2007 to 2010. All rooms except for the problem room were created back on Exchange 2007. This new room was created with Exchange 2010. Maybe this clue has something to do with the problem? What should I do when admin/editor clicks on Delete user link? Should I redirect him to new yes/no confirmation page or display some jquery popup window? Should I then redirect him to the home page and display message The user has been successfully deleted from the system, or simple redirection should be just fine?

  • How to debug wifi connection?

    I am using Ubuntu's Network Manager to connect to a local wifi router. My problem is, that it often disconnects without any visible reason (router is on, internet connection seems to be working, wifi diodes are blinking). I mostly have to disable wifi from Network Manager, enable it again to get wifi connecting again. Plus I am often experiencing Network Manager trying to connect to my wifi, trying several times but then giving up. I even tried an external usb-wifi card, but with the very same results. My question is: How can I debug this? Which logs should I read to see what is really happening when all of these errors occur - so I can post them here and see how to proceed?

  • SBS2008 : can't have a mailbox accessible from outside?

    We have a SBS2008 server with 9 users using the embeeded Exchange. The MX record points to this server. This works fine. We want 2 remote users to also have a mailbox on this server. The consultant say we can't because SBS don't allow to have remote users for Exchange. He may be right but seems very strange to me. I don't find anything related to that. I don't want to touch this server for political reasons. So I can't to the test. Can anyone confirm if Exchange on SBS2008 can or can't be reach from outside ?

  • Outlook or OWA: How can I convert an e-mail message to a draft?

    There's an option in Thunderbird called Edit as new... which converts a message to a draft. I am looking for something similar in Exchange. Reasoning: We migrated old e-mail of a user from an IMAP server to Exchange. The user had many drafts saved. According to exchange though, the messages are not drafts anymore. My hunch is that, if we find a similar procedure as Thunderbird's Edit as new..., that should do the trick.
