I had more websites and I hosted new server out my company. And I connect remotely so had to rebuild domain and subdomins for sites also I want to stop old sites from old server . what can I do?
What do you think is the best free distraction removing software for Mac? I get distracted very easily and one main feature that it should have is block certain websites but not the internet connection altogether.
Thanks in advance!
I'm using amazon s3 as storage for users profile pic.
I see that many websites generates large random filenames and put them into the same root directory like:
http://xxx.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/aHR0cHM6Ly9mYmNkbi1wcm9maWxlLWEuYWthbWFpaGQubmV0L2hwcm9maWxlLWFrLWFzaDIvMjczMzkxXzEwMDAwMDMxMjAxMzg5OV81NTk3MjM4Mzdfbi5qcGc.jpg
And my question is: What are the pros and cons of that approach?
If I palce them into different directories, what problems I will have in future?
http://xxx.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/users/id/username.jpg
or
http://xxx.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/users/id/random_number.jpg
Thanks!

Our office's firewall is blocking many websites. i can access those block sites using Hotspot Shield but my question is that do my internet activities log into firewall log?
I have a website hosted in a public server (withoud any streaming content) ,using public hosting instead of private because its cheaper. But in public hosting their are limitations when compared to private hosting such as monthly bandwidth usage (1 GB), disk space, cpu usage etc. I am planning to embedd videos and audios (from other websites like youtube) to my already existing website. My question is if a client streams a embedded video/audio (hosted in another website) from my website any change in bandwidth occurs.
I need to implement a gateway that will allow me to control the access to the internet of a network made up of a about half a dozen of workstations. My main obejectives are the following:
1- Monitoring of traffic
2- Logging of traffic
3- Access control - block websites (mainly adult) and certian traffic(example torrents)
4- Possibly cache content
5- Easy management interface
6- Preferable free and opensource
Serverfault users can you please suggest from your vast experience which software you think is the best to suit my needs?
Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.
Thank you
I owned a linux server. Now there are several users want to build web services on it, but they require different enviroments. For convenience I give a KVM virtual machine root permission to each user.
But obviously the linux server has only one IP. How can I deliver the external requests to corresponding virtual machine?
(I expect it's somewhat complicated. If so I want at least some docs/websites I can start reading.)
I need ti download mother board drivers for my processor, i donna how to get it from Intel's website, Can anyone please explain me briefly, or tell me any websites available to download the things.
My Processor: Intel Celeron
littleblackbox is publishing "private keys" that are accessible on publicly available firmwares. Debian calls these "snake-oil" certs. Most of these routers are securing their HTTPS certs with these, and as I think about it, I've never seen one of these internal admin websites with certs that wasn't self signed.
Given a webserver on IP 192.168.1.1, how do you secure it to the point that Firefox doesn't offer warnings (and is still secured)?
We got attacked by some very-bored teenagers registering in our forums and posting very explicit material using anonymous proxy websites, like http://proxify.com/
Is there a way to check the registration IP against a black list database? Has anyone experienced this and had success?
How would one go about creating a heat map (say, of the US) based on location data from Google Analytics? I'd like to somehow create such a map with the visitor data from several websites that use Google Analytics. I'm not really looking for a step-by-step tutorial, just some suggestions on how to start. Assume little to no programming experience, but a willingness to learn and hack together stuff to make it work.
I am running VMware Fusion on my Mac (10.6) with an Ubuntu 9.10 (32 bit) VM for my development environment. How would I setup SSH to be able to SSH into the Ubuntu VM from the Mac? Also, when I am testing websites in browsers, how would I set it up so that I can go to the site on FF on the Mac and have it point to the site running on the Apache server on Ubuntu?

I can browse all websites except codinghorror.com in any of my browsers (IE, Firefox & Chrome), but that site is not down.
Chrome gives this error msg:
Error 109
(net::ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE):
Unknown error
There's absolutely no problem with internet connectivity. I also enabled TCP/IP version-6 but the site just doesn't open. What could be the problem?
I am web designer/developer, and I design and code "Premium Wordpress Themes" and HTML Websites.
I wish to buy a new PC system with fast features, and will be installing virtual machines too.
What kind of PC system would be best for a professional web designer/developer.
Tell me the PC specs, e.g processor, motherboard, how much hard drive, RAM, graphic card etc.
Don't really care about the price.

Our websites are being crawled by content thieves on a regular basis. We obviously want to let through the nice bots and legitimate user activity, but block questionable activity.
We have tried IP blocking at our firewall, but this becomes to manage the block lists. Also, we have used IIS-handlers, however that complicates our web applications.
Is anyone familiar with network appliances, firewalls or application services (say for IIS) that can reduce or eliminate the content scrapers?
Hi,
I wanted to ask if it is possible to create a user account on Ubuntu so that it had all powers and rights of root account except it would be impossible to edit a certain file.
What I intend to do is to edit host file in order to block access of certain websites, and then create a user account which would be the same as root account except it would be not able to edit host file. Maybe there is an easier way to block an access of certain sites forever?
Thanks!
I work for a small digital agency (10-15 employees). We design and build websites (using php and Django). Are we better off building our own intranet using django or going for a pre built (free or paid for) solution?
Key features needed:
Project management (basecamp clone)
Time reporting
Local and external file sharing (dropbox clone)
I have DG43NB mobo, that have onboard X4500 graphics. Its supports 1900 x 1200 Resolution. But my LCD monitor is only capable of resolution 1024 x 768. I have to test some websites in resolution 1900 x 1200, how can i test?
Is there any concept of virtual desktop using which i can simulate resolution 1900 x 1200.
I have windows xp installed.
thanks
I know that you can use mysqldump. I am currently dumping the following way:
${MYSQLDUMP} --single-transaction -u ${MUSER} -h ${MHOST} -p${MPASS} $db | ${GZIP} -9 > $FILE
From my understanding this locks the database and prevents any type of use of the database and can even lock up websites. Is there a better way to maybe do daily/hourly backups of the MySQL database should the database be in the 100mbs and even 1gbs in size?
Any recommendations on books, websites, or other resources for learning Internet Protocol, the ins and outs of DNS and how Networking and IP Addressing works? I have a fundamental knowledge of this stuff but I need a good reference I can look to frequently.
I have a small website that crashes once or twice a week.
I have spoken to both the websites original designers, who has now retired and its host and both blame the other.
The website can be recovered by simply renaming a .dll file on the server which effectively reboots the website/application.
Is there a script or something that can be set to automatically rename a file at specific intervals?
