• Writing annotataion schemas for Callisto

  Does anybody know where I can find documentation on how to write annotation schemas for Callisto? I'm looking to write something a little more complicated than I can generate from a DTD -- that only gives me the ability to tag different kinds of text mentions. I'm looking to create a schema that represents a single type of relationship between five or six different kinds of textual mentions (and some of these types of mentions have attributes that I need to assign values to), and possibly having a second type of relationship between the first two instances of the first type of relationship. (Alternatively, does anybody know of any software that would be better for this kind of schema? I've been looking at WordFreak, but it's a little clumsy, and it doesn't support attributes on its textual mentions.)

  How can I draw a string centred within a rect? I've started off with: (an extract from the drawRect method of my custom view) NSString* theString = ... [theString drawInRect:theRect withAttributes:0]; [theString release]; Now I'm assuming I need to set up some attributes. I've had a look through Apple's Cocoa documentation, but it's a bit overwhelming and can't find anything for how to add paragraph styles to the attributes. Also, I can only find horizontal alignment, what about vertical alignment? Thanks.

• Django comparing model instances for equality

  I understand that, with a singleton situation, you can perform such an operation as: spam == eggs and if spam and eggs are instances of the same class with all the same attribute values, it will return True. In a Django model, this is natural because two separate instances of a model won't ever be the same unless they have the same .pk value. The problem with this is that if a reference to an instance has attributes that have been updated by middleware somewhere along the way and it hasn't been saved, and you're trying to it to another variable holding a reference to an instance of the same model, it will return False of course because they have different values for some of the attributes. Obviously I don't need something like a singleton , but I'm wondering if there some official Djangonic (ha, a new word) method for checking this, or if I should simply check that the .pk value is the same with: spam.pk == eggs.pk I'm sorry if this was a huge waste of time, but it just seems like there might be a method for doing this, and something I'm missing that I'll regret down the road if I don't find it.

  Hi, what would be the xpath for the following: Find all child nodes with a specific attibute value but starting from a node with a specific attribute value. This is kind of related to a question I posted earlier about parsing and rdf xml file - I thought I had solved it but not quite yet. For example I am trying to parse and grab all of the rdf:about attribute values. I have this working fine. I need to add the following condition though - parsing needs to start after a specific rdf:about value is found. I am working in php and and using DomDocument and am using the following xpath query: $xpath-query('//@rdf:about') - it is finding all rdf:about attributes fine. I need to extend this to only find thos attributes that come after the node who rdf:about attribute is equal to something. Hope this makes sense.

• ImageMagick: convert png fail via PHP and works via bash shell

  I've got a very weird bug which I've yet to find a solution. UPDATE see solution below What I am trying to do is convert a full size picture into a 160x120 thumbnail. It works great with jpg and jpeg files of any size, but not with png. ImageMagick command: /opt/local/bin/convert '/WEBSERVER/images/img_0003-192-10.png' -thumbnail x320 -resize '320x<' -resize 50% -gravity center -crop 160x120+0+0 +repage -quality 91 '/WEBSERVER/thumbs/small_img_0003-192-10.png' PHP function (shortened) ... $cmd = "/opt/local/bin/convert '/WEBSERVER/images/img_0003-192-10.png' -thumbnail x320 -resize '320x<' -resize 50% -gravity center -crop 160x120+0+0 +repage -quality 91 '/WEBSERVER/thumbs/small_img_0003-192-10.png'"; exec($cmd, $output, $retval); $errors += $retval; if ($errors > 0) { die(print_r($output)); } When this function runs $retval equal 1 which means the convert command failed (thumbnail isn't created).   Hi - I am searching for a command-line tool (or XSLT technique, or C# code that can be made into a command-line tool, etc) for Windows that will do XML pretty-printing. Specifically, I want one that has the ability to put attributes one-to-a-line, something like: <Node> <ChildNode value1='5' value2='6' value3='happy' /> </Node> It doesn't have to be EXACTLY like that, but I want to use it for an XML file that has nodes with dozens of attributes and spreading them across multiple lines makes them easier to read, edit, and text-diff.

• How can I stop sorl thumbnail from breaking with very long filenames?

  I've noticed that when working with SORL thumbnail, sometimes a user will upload an image with a very long filename, longer than the varfield in the database can hold. The name gets truncated in the database and the project gives errors whenever the image is requested. Is there a smart and safe way to have django automatically truncate long filenames in sorl uploads (prior to saving them in the database) to prevent this sort of thing? Can anyone suggest how I do this? Or do I need to specify the types I want to allow somewhere and switch on the property's type to see if it's allowed? That's a little messy, so it'd be nice if I there was a tidier way.

• Java, filling arrays, and inheritance

  Hi folks, I think I'm running into an inheritance conceptual wall with my Java arrays. I'm kind of new to Java so please tell me if I have things upside down. In essence, I want to do three things: Create a runnersArray with the attributes of my Runners class. Fill my runnersArray using my GenerateObjects method of my GenerateObjects class. Access the contents of my filled runnersArray in my Evaluating method of my Evaluating class. The problem seems to be that runnersArray is not visible to the methods in steps 2 and 3 above, but their classes (due to design reasons) cannot inherit or extend Runners class. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.   Can Automapper map values from a NameValueCollection onto an object, where target.Foo receives the value stored in the collection under the "Foo" key? I have a business object that stores some data in named properties and other data in a property bag. Different views make different assumptions about the data in the property bag, which I capture in page-specific view models. I want to use AutoMapper to map both the "inherent" attributes (the ones that always exist) as well as the "dynamic" attributes (the ones that vary per view and may or may not exist).

• 256 colors, foreground and background

  This is a tale of two scripts and is related to a previous question. The two scripts are at http://gist.github.com/50692. The ansi.rb script displays all 256 colors on all 256 background colors. The ncurses.rb script displays all 256 foreground colors but the background displays the basic 16 and then seems to cycle through various attributes like blinking and reverse video. So what gives? Is this the bug in ncurses that it uses a signed integer for color pairs? (ie 'tput colors' says 256 but 'tput pairs' says 32767 instead 65536) It seems like if that were the case the first half of the colors pairs would display properly but the second half would repeat or get into the attributes as the int wraps.

• How does this ruby custom accessor work

  So the method below in class_eval dynamically creates accessors for attributes defined at runtime. It can be used, for example, to create configuration objects with attributes read from a config file (and unknown until runtime). I understanding all of it except for the else branch. If I am correct the else branch returns the attribute value (val[0]) if there is one value passed in *val. However the way its written I would expect it to return an array (val) if there is more then one value passed in *var. In particular, if I have something like the following: value = 5 then from reading the code I would expect "#{@value}" to be [=,5]. However "#{@value}" returns 5 and not the array [=,5]. • Creating an Improved Digital Zoom

  Hey, Ok, so I have a given video source (for the sake of the example, it is a camera). It does not have optical zoom, but we supply digital zoom instead. Now this digital zoom is pretty simple, simply cropping the image to a specified portion, and filling the screen with that portion. The problem is that the zoomed video can have pretty rubbish quality when the digital zoom is enabled. I am wondering if anyone knows of an approach by which a higher quality of digital zoom can be achieved in real-time. The software is on Windows, and the video is rendered using DirectShow, but it isn't a platform solution I'm necessarily after, more just a better approach to the problem. Cheers

  I am developing a simple web page to be viewed after an iphone application completes. I am finding the safari degrades the image quality of the jpg so its all fuzzy. The image is background image applied to a div div.foo { background: url(../images/foo.jpg) no-repeat; width:320px; height:349px; } The width and height are exactly the same as the jpg image. Is there a way to make sure the image gets displayed in its full quality?

• Random noise in Solr score

  I am looking for a way of introducing random noise into my scoring function, and I'm at a loss on how to best proceed. Some background: We use Solr for a web application that manages large-ish sets of photos for agencies. One customer has an interesting requirement for scoring: 'quality' field, maintained by editors, from 1 (highest) to 3 (lowest); 'date' field, boosting more recent photos; I would probably use a logarithmic function; However, due to how the stock photo market works, this will likely result in many similar photos appearing together. Their request is to give 'quality' a large boost, but introduce some randomness so that photos will not appear in a strict date order. Any idea? EDITED: a key requirement is to have "stable" query results: if I search twice for "tropical island" I can get a slightly different result set, but if I ask for the first page, then the second, then the first, I'd better get the same results :)

Does it mean the following are legal? <bean id="test"> <bean name="test"> But this is illegal: <bean non_idnorname="test"> you may also or instead specify one or more bean ids (separated by a comma (,) or semicolon (;) via the name attribute. Does it mean I can specify multiple ids this way: <bean name="id1;id2,id3"> Can someone convince my doubt?

• Is this an example of polymorphism?

  I'm working on a homework assignment (a project), for which one criterion is that I must make use of polymorphism in a way which noticeably improves the overall quality or functionality of my code. I made a Hash Table which looks like this: public class HashTable<E extends Hashable>{ ... } where Hashable is an interface I made that has a hash() function. I know that using generics this way improves the quality of my code, since now HashTable can work with pretty much any type I want (instead of just ints or Strings for example). But I'm not sure if it demonstrates polymorphism. I think it does, because E can be any type that implements Hashable. In other words HashTable is a class which can work with (practically) any type. But I'm not quite sure - is that polymorphism? Perhaps can I get some clarification as to what exactly polymorphism is? Thanks in advance!

• Grails: JSONP callback without id and class in JSON file

  Hi, I am working on a REST based interface where people get a json file. The client needs to access the file from another Domain. I use jsonp which works so far. My problem is the rendering in Grails. At the moment I use the 'as JSON' to marshalling the object: render "${params.jsoncallback}(${user as JSON})" The Json file getting to the client inclused all attributes, incluing the id and class, which I do not want to have in there. In case it is not jsonp, I do it this way, which works great: render(contentType:'text/json'){ userName user.userName userImage user.userImage : : } So how do I get the id and class attributes out of the json when rendering "user as JSON"? • Why does Spring Security's BindAuthenticator require read permissions for users?

  Hi all, I'm currently implementing/configuring the LDAP authentication of a Java web application using Spring Security 3.0. I'm using Microsoft AD LDS as LDAP server and chose the Spring's BindAuthenticator. I found out that the authentication only works if the authenticated user is a member of the partition's Readers role. The BindAuthenticator tries to read the user's attributes after the authentication, which seems reasonable in scenarios where authorities are retrieved from the directory service. Being new to LDAP and AD, is this an acceptable practise when the application is integrated in an existing AD structure? Can fine-tune an give the user dns only read permissions for their own attributes rather than adding them to the Reader group? Thanks Thomas

• Popup window keeps opening after I close it and refresh the page?

  I have an aspx.cs page with the following code: hypPopup.Attributes.Add("onclick", "window.open('Popup.aspx', '', 'height=650, width=800, location=no, toolbar=no, status=no, scrollbars=yes, resizable=yes'); return false" ); When I click the hypPopup link, the window pops up which is fine, but if I close it and refresh the page, the popup keeps popping up. I have to leave the page and come back for it to stop popping up on every refresh. Is this behavior by default or is there a fix to it? hypPopup.Attributes.Add is done in the Page_Load
