    Hi, I want to do some actions before the whole test suite (also after the suite).     I have a page that is just a non interactive display for a shop window. Obviously, I don't link to it, and I'd also like to avoid people stumbling across it (by Google etc). It will always be powered by Chrome. I have thought of... Checking User Agent for Chrome Ensuring resolution is 1920 x 1080 (not that useful as it is a client side check) Banning under robots.txt to keep Google out of it Do you have any more suggestions? Should I not really worry about it?

    I am using a struct to pass to an unmanaged DLL as so - [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)] public struct valTable { public byte type; public byte map; public byte spare1; public byte spare2; public int par; public int min; public byte[] name; public valTable() { name = new byte[24]; } } The code above will not compile because VS 2005 will complain that "Structs cannot contain explicit parameterless constructors". In order to pass this struct to my DLL, I have to pass an array of struct's like so valTable[] val = new valTable[281]; What I would like to do is when I say new, the constructor is called and it creates an array of bytes like I am trying to demonstrate because the DLL is looking for that byte array of size 24 in each dimension. How can I accomplish this?

    I would like to open-source a python project on Github but it contains an API key that should not be distributed. I guess there's something better than removing the key each time a "push" is committed to the repo. Imagine a simplified foomodule.py : import urllib2 API_KEY = 'XXXXXXXXX' urllib2.urlopen("http://example.com/foo?id=123%s" % API_KEY ).read() What i'm thinking is: Move the API_KEY in a second key.py module importing it on foomodule.py; i would then add key.py on .gitignore file. Same as 1 but using ConfigParser Do you know a good programmatic way to handle this scenario?

I have a smart client application being deployed with a CickOnce webpage. here's the current scenario. 1.User runs the application, and the application shows a login form. 2.User enters ID/Password in the login form, and the application sends that information to the server. 3.The server authenticates the user and sends configuration and data to the application. Different users have different configuration and data for their application. I was concerned that anyone can download the application from the webpage if they know the URL. So I'm trying to change the authentication scheme, so that users can login at the webpage to download the application. I want to send the authentication info from the webpage(Program running at the server) to the smart client app, so that application can download the configuration information from the server, without prompting users to make a login again. How can the webpage send the ID/Passoword to the application securely?

  • GNU General Public License (v2): can a company use the licensed software for free?

    When a library is released under the GPL v2, can a company use it internally for free? If they develop software based on it, do they have to release it under the GPL, even if they don't distribute it? Can they make money by using (not distributing) internally developed software that links to the GPL'ed library, without any compensation for the author? I am looking for a software license that only allows non-commercial uses (copy, modify, link to); the resulting derived programs must also be free for non-commercial uses. Is there any software license that does this for non-commercial uses, and prevents any commercial use (including using the software in order to make money)? It looks like the Creative Commons licenses are flexible enough to do something close to that, but I've read against using them for software. What do you think?

  • Implementing a modern web application with Web API on top of old services

    My company has many WCF services which may or may not be replaced in the near future. The old web application is written in WebForms and communicates straight with these services via SOAP and returns DataTables. Now I am designing a new modern web application in a modern style, an AngularJS client which communicates with an ASP.NET Web API via JSON. The Web API then communicates with the WCF services via SOAP. In the future I want to let the Web API handle all requests and go straight to the database, but because the business logic implemented in the WCF services is complicated it's going to take some time to rewrite and replace it. Now to the problem: I'm trying to make it easy in the near future to replace the WCF services with some other data storage, e.g. another endpoint, database or whatever. I also want to make it easy to unit test the business logic. That's why I have structured the Web API with a repository layer and a service layer. The repository layer has a straight communication with the data storage (WCF service, database, or whatever) and the service layer then uses the repository (Dependency Injection) to get the data. It doesn't care where it gets the data from. Later on I can be in control and structure the data returned from the data storage (DataTable to POCO) and be able to test the logic in the service layer with some mock repository (using Dependency Injection). Below is some code to explain where I'm going with this. But my question is, does this all make sense? Am I making this overly complicated and could this be simplified in any way possible? Does this simplicity make this too complicated to maintain? My main goal is to make it as easy as possible to switch to another data storage later on, e.g. an ORM and be able to test the logic in the service layer. And because the majority of the business logic is implemented in these WCF services (and they return DataTables), I want to be in control of the data and the structure returned to the client. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Update 20/08/14 I created a repository factory, so services would all share repositories. Now it's easy to mock a repository, add it to the factory and create a provider using that factory. Any advice is much appreciated. I want to know if I'm making things more complicated than they should be. So it looks like this: 1.     I want to try out some features rolled out in Oracle's new JDK 1.7. I followed the post:- Oracle JDK 1.7 but the post doesn't seem to help.
