• How can I migrate lab manager VM to vCloud Director

  A friend of mine has been asked to start experimenting with migrating VMs from Vmware Lab Manager to vCloud. We know the machines/labs have to be undeployed and consolidated, which is done for this testing lab. However, what should be the next steps to make this as efficient as possible, as we have a large number of labs to migrate. Also, the dependencies tree is huge and the consolidation process is a big thing, but we know we cannot avoid this. Thanks :-)

  Hi, I'm looking for a command line tool for windows that will go over a directory tree (recursively) and output a list of all the files in there, and a checksum for each file (can be CRC, MD5, whatever). Esentially, what I want is to compare 2 big directory trees in 2 machines. I'm planning to take the outputs of running this tool in both, and diffing them to make sure they're identical. I appreciate any ideas.

• Change directory upwards to specified goal

  I'm often deep inside a directory tree, moving upwards and downwards to perform various tasks. Is there anything more efficient than going 'cd ../../../..'? I was thinking something along the lines of this: If I'm in /foo/bar/baz/qux/quux/corge/grault and want to go to /foo/bar/baz, I want to do something like 'cdto baz'. I can write some bash script for this, but I'd first like to know if it already exists in some form.

  I've created a directory named "Shared" in my "My Documents" directory (C:\Users\Cory.MYDOMAIN\Documents\Shared). I right clicked on the Shared folder and publicly shared this one directory. At least that's what wanted to do. In reality, Windows 7 shared the entire C:\Users directory. How can I share this one subdirectory without granting access to the rest of the C:\Users tree?

In fact I had tree partitions (system, home, swap) but the installator crashed so I restarted the installation and it has installed everything in the system partition.   Is there a Hyper-V virtual machine client for XP? Linux? Mac? I'm aware that we could VNC or RDP into the virtual machine but the problem is if the VM is not running or is suspend the end user can't start it and IT needs to get involved. I guess what I'm looking for is something like VMconnect.exe that runs on xp or linux. Or, If I am totally barking up the wrong tree let me know. ;-)

  System: Windows 7 Home Premium IE: 11.0.9600.17107 When I have had many, many apps and windows open, sometimes I'll try to access a folder and get a dialog that says "System Call Failed". I have found the fix for it is to open the task manager and End Process Tree on iexplore.exe and iexplore.exe *32. Often times there will be several of these even when I have closed all my browser windows. Does anyone have any experience with this error?

Note: The current command traverses the entire tree from the current location and exclude those being pruned. The exclusion needs to work for any hidden directory regardless off location.

  I have got this file that I can't delete. It happened after a system crash, so the CHKDSK kicked in upon next reboot. After that, I can't delete the file. THis is on Windows Home Server, and the file is one of those hidden Thumbs.db, and my WHS reports a "File conflict" on the file, the reason: Access Denied" What I have tried so far, running as an Administrator: Delete: Access Denied TakeOwn.exe : Access Denied Attrib.exe -s -h : Access Denied Icacls.exe : Access Denied Re-boot in to safe mode and tried the above: Access Denied I have used the CHKDSK /f again, rebooted since some suggestions is that the file has been corrupted, but that didn't change anything. Any suggestions ?

• Disable Windows Key Hotkeys when using Virtualbox

  I'm currently running a VirtualBox of Arch Linux with Windows 7 x64 as the host. In Arch, I use dwm for window management. As dwm is heavily dependent on hotkeys, I've used the ALT key as its META key to prevent conflict with the Windows 7 host. However, when using emacs (also heavy hotkey usage) within dwm, there are issues because it's also using ALT for its own META. I'd like to change either dwm or emacs to use the windows key as META, but commands such as Win+L will be captured by the host machine and lock my system. Is there any way to prevent these hotkeys from being triggered while within VirtualBox?

  After connecting to a remote location via OpenVPN, I am trying to access a server on a network that exists on a subnet such as 10.0.1.0/24. However, the network I am trying to access this remote server from is on the same subnet: 10.0.1.0/24. I am unable to connect to my remote server via typing in its IP because of this conflict. I am unable to even access the public internet while connected to the VPN. Does anyone know how to mitigate this issue? I have access to the OpenVPN Access Server.

  Hi. I have 2 IBM servers Intel Xeon Dual core with 2gb RAM. the problem is that Taskmanager uses one full core when i open it. The same happens when i copy files in the explorer. OS: Windows 2003 Server Things i tried: Installed all updates They has kaspersky anti virus and they previously had Nod32. All drivers installed OK. All unused devices are disabled in the bios. Reinstalled win 2003 SP2. No conflict in drivers Tried opening via remote desktop and the problem continues.   I have a router whose IP is 192.168.1.1 and I be experiencing conflict with another router on my subnet (which probably has 192.168.1.1 as IP too). I think when it tries to connect to the network, eventually taking the place of my router because when I try to access the config page of my router, which appears to me is a config page from another router that is not mine. Do you have any solution except to change the IP of my router to an IP not common? As I have set up the exclusivity that only my IP router? I work with dynamic IPs (wireless networking) and static (for wired). How do I? I just wanna to do some setting in my router that affects all other, so that doesn't conflicts anymore.

  I'm with a small company that plans to sell a rack mounted network appliance which is configurable via a web interface (think of a router configuration page sort of deal), and I'm wondering in large data center like environments what the process usually is for the initial setup of such systems. The main question is, if the system is headless, how do you get initial remote access to it? Do companies usually first plug a server into a monitor/keyboard/mouse in order to configure the network settings before mounting it in a rack? How else would they know what the IP address of the machine was if DHCP (and it can't be hard coded because of IP conflict potential)?

• not able to mount media to ESX 4.0

  Hi, I have ESX 4.0 running on NEC Express 5800 R-120a model. I have 2 VMs running windows XP. I am not able to mount any media to it. When I try connecting the local media to the VM, the error message comes mentioning "a connection to the host could not be established.: I have checked and there is no network issue. ESX is accessible fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Besides, I have opened almost all the ports in the firewall just to make sure there is no port conflict.

  I have an Ubuntu 12.04 64bit server setup under Hyper-V. I have installed Pervasive 64bit SQL drivers so that a stock-updater script can run daily (Updates external MySQL database from another local server running Exchequer software / PSQL database).
