• How do I create a Windows Batch file that does not show the Command Prompt when executed?

  I have installed a ruby gem called Redcar, which is launched from the command line. When it runs, it steals the shell until it terminates, so I have to create a new shell window to continue doing command line work. The shell I'm using is the GITBash shell from MySysGit. I found a Redcar.bat file which is meant to launch Redcar as a shortcut, I presume, but I don't want the extra command prompt window to open whenever I launch the BAT file. How do I just run the BAT without seeing the prompt?

• Visual Studio 10 Disable Find Autocomplete

  When I misspell something in Visual Studio 10's find box (the one that shows in the editor's main window, not the popup window "Find and Replace" window), VS10 autocompletes to that misspelled word whenever I try fixing it. A Ctrl+Z will remove the entire autocompletion, including the last character I typed (which it can case change!). Backspacing and retyping will still autocomplete to the misspelled word. Only a cut and paste seems to work. Is there a way to disable this horrible feature!? This is a picture of the find box that I am talking about:

• print job doesn't go to print queue

  I have two printers hooked up to my intel imac. I am having a printing error. It seems that whenever i try to print (a simple text doc) I am unable to get the print job to go to print queue with one of my printers. I have a HP c7280 and a HP c3100. I am able to get one working properly, but the other doesn't seem to allow it to go to the print queue. I have switched usb cables (with the printer that I know works) and both printers are recognized by the computer in the printer preferences pane. I've tried reseting the printer system in the printer setup utility.. reloaded the drivers from HP.. etc. If anyone has a suggestion or could point me to a little help i'd be VERY grateful Best Regards.. • iis windos authentication way to turn off password prompt

  IIS noobie here. I have an intranet website hosted by IIS (6? I'll check after the weekend) that is set to Windows Authentication. Whenever there is some sort of authentication failure, the website gives the user a windows account sort of password prompt and doesn't display a 403 (or 401 or whatever) page unless the user cancels the prompt. However, entering a password is never, ever a use case for this website. Is there a way to turn off the password prompt and just display the error page? Bonus: are there any good hooks for this precise point for code that would do diagnosis and logging?

• How to prevent Windows from doing this

  I am using Windows 7 Professional 64bit. This is my webcam. It is first time using this webcam in my pc. It's name is A4tech - PK-331F. When I plugged that webcam, windows start installing drivers automatically but unfortunately it installed wrong drivers. The drivers Windows 7 installed are Vimicro USB 2.0 PC Camera (Venus) and these drivers aren't related to this webcam. Now I did some modifications to windows so it isn't installing drivers automatically but whenever I plug that webcam but same name of drivers and doesn't install it. I think because of it, I can't install it's original drivers. I don't want Windows recognize this webcam with this name. How can I prevent Windows from doing this?.

• Samba + Centos (Share not working)

  I've done this a few times already, but for some reason this time it's not working. I have a folder called ruby (root:root - 0777) on /home/placona I'm trying to see this folder from my WindowsXP box, but keep getting permission denied. I can see the global share though, but whenever I try clicking on the ruby share, it won't let me in. Here's my smb.conf settings: [global] log file = /var/log/samba/samba.%m guest account = nobody netbios name = DEVBOX server string = DEVBOX CENTOS workgroup = WORKGROUP encrypt passwords = yes security = share max log size = 50 [ruby] path = /home/placona/ruby I want to be able to open this folder without using password (hence the guest account = nobody). I tried even with password, but never seems to work. Can anyone spot anything wrong with my settings?

• Issue with Visual C++ 2010 (Express) External Tools command

  Hi all, Normally we develop in VS 2005 Pro, but I wanted to give VS 2010 a spin. We have custom build tools based off of GNU make tools that are called when creating an executable. This is the error that I see whenever I call my external tool: ...\gnu\make.exe): *** couldn't commit memory for cygwin heap, Win32 error 487 The caveat is that it still works perfectly fine in VS2005, as well as being called straight from the command line. Also, my external tool is setup exactly the same as in VS 2005. Is there some setting somewhere that could cause this error to be thrown?

• PHP fopen fails - does not have permission to open file in write mode.

  Hello. I have an Apache 2.17 server running on a Fedora 13. I want to be able to create a file in a directory. I cannot do that. Whenever I try to open a file with php for writing fopen(,'w'), it tells me that I don't have permission to do that. So i checked the httpd.conf file in /etc/httpd/conf/. It says user apache, group apache. So I changed ownership (chown -R apache:apache .*) of my whole /www directory to apache:apache. I also run chmod -R 777 * Apart from knowing how terribly dangerous this is, it actually still gives me the same error, even though I even allow public write!

Driver: HP OfficeJet 5600 Series Whenever I try to print, it fails while saying "connected to printer" or "Printer is busy...zill try again in X seconds" Both Windows 7 and Windows XP computers on the network can successfully access this printer, identifying it as "HP5610 on http://192.168.1.10:1631/" I tried clearing all tasks and printers (ctrl-click in the menu), and resetting it to (socket, http://192.168.1.10:1631/printers/HP5610, HP5600 series) but to no success.

• Enterprise laptop doesn't recognize WiFi

  My cousin is using an enterprise laptop for home work, but for some reason she can't connect to her home WiFi. The laptop isn't able to detect any WiFi networks, although she used to be able to detect and connect to the network. Whenever I troubleshoot for possible issues, Windows Vista is telling me the switch for wireless reception is turned off, but I'm sure it's turned on (If I turn it on, the HP Wireless Assistant tells me it's turned on, so...). But if I take a look at the settings, I get this message (sorry it's in Dutch): So for some reason, the WLAN reception is deactivated and I cannot activate this... Does this have something to do with the laptop being an enterprise laptop? Or is there a simple setting I missed? The most recent driver of the Wireless Network Card (Intel Wireless 5100) is installed.

• Having problems with Grub2 booting Ubuntu from my External Hard Drive

  I installed Ubuntu on my external hard drive but it won't boot on my laptop. what do i do? i did some reading and traced the source of the problem to grub2. Apparently, grub2 doesn't use the device's UUID, and uses the linux directory instead (/dev/sdf2). This means that whenever i plug my E-HDD into a system that has a different number of drives connected to it, i won't be able to boot without editting the boot command. I don't understand it too well but that's what i got from what i read. Is there anyway to fix this?

• Why is my laptop only producing sound when the headphones should be active?

  I think Skype may have corrupted my laptop speakers somehow. The other day I was listening to music on my headphones when a coworker started sending me IMs. Whenever the alert sound played, the music and alert would both come out through the laptop speakers for a second instead of the headphones. Now sound only comes out through the speakers when skype is playing sounds, or if I right click the volume control, select Playback Devices and test the headphones. So if I play music it's silent. If I go into Skype and dial the sound test call the music will start coming through the speakers. Any ideas how to fix this? Win7 by the way.

  Hii all i am trying to change the port no of my tomcat server installed in ubuntu. for this i have changed the file server.xml and made a change there as: <Connector port="8081" protocol="HTTP/1.1" connectionTimeout="20000" URIEncoding="UTF-8" redirectPort="8443" /> But the problem is that whenever i try to open the localhost:8081 it is working fine but when i tried to open localhost:8080 then it is still accessible. So please explain this why this is happening. Secondly when i made the default port to 80 then localhost:80 or localhost then it was not accessible. So please explain this why this is happening.   We have a CentOS 6.2 x86_64 system that's logging what looks to be erroneous audit information. We were receiving alerts for failed logins by a user who wasn't actually trying to log in. After some diagnosis, we figured out that the source of the events is our tool that periodically checks to see if SSH is answering. When that happens, we see this log this entry: type=USER_LOGIN msg=audit(1340312224.011:489216): user pid=28787 uid=0 auid=501 ses=8395 subj=unconfined_u:system_r:sshd_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023 msg='op=login acct=28756E6B6E6F776E207A01234567 exe="/usr/sbin/sshd" hostname=? addr=127.0.0.1 terminal=ssh res=failed' This is the entry we get whenever there is an incomplete ssh connection, but usually the auid is the same as the ses= value. For some reason, on this system, it's using a particular user's auid, regardless of the login user. For example, ssh'ng to this system as [email protected] and cancelling before providing a password generates this error. Attempting to log to an unrelated account with a bogus password will also create an entry with the incorrect auid value.

  I have a HP laptop. I upgraded to windows 7 ultimate from home basic. Now I'm trying to upgrade to Windows 8 but when I do I get a message saying not enough system partition. So I opened the disk manager and increased the size of system reserved partition and it was of no use I still got the same error. Then I unfortunately deleted the 100MB system reserved partition by right clicking it and clicking format in the disk manager! Now I am not able to boot any CD's from the startup including OS and recovery CD. Whenever I press esc it always goes to the login screen and it doesn't say anything about the boot from CD option. Now I could not even use my recovery CD. I have 3 questions: Is it necesseary to create a system reserved partition if so how to create it? How to use my recovery cd How to install win 8

• Configure akamai to ignore favicon errors [on hold]

  We have hosted our services through akamai and have configured and alert in akamai to notify us of 404 errors. We dont want to serve favicon from our services (as they are rest webservices which are not consumed by humans, hence no point in serving favicons). But whenever thesewebservices are accessed from a browser the browser would send a request for the favicon, which ends up being logged as a 404 and akamai sends us an alert for this. Is there a way to configure akamai in a way that it understands that favicon 404s should not contribute to the alert?

• Can't install software from Ubuntu software center

  I've been experimenting with Ubuntu 10.04(64bit) inside a VirtualBox VM. This isn't my first experience with Linux, but I'm still very much a Linux noob. Whenever I try to install software from the Ubuntu Software Center, the installation gets interrupted and I get a warning that this installation requires untrusted sources. I can install anything I want using apt-get, it's just the gui that doesn't work. I've done research on the issue and taken the following precautions with no result: under software sources Allowed Canonical partners Allowed source code Changed the download source to main server I get no errors when running an apt-get update. Can anyone shed some light on the issue?

• How to block spam site republishing my content

  I noticed today that Google search results shows some spam copies of one of my sites. The url looks something like this: http://[subdomain].spamsite.com/www.example.com ...where example.com is my site. In my Apache access logs I'm noticing several lines like the following whenever I load the above url: 127.0.0.1 - - [219/Oct/2012:19:27:34 +0000] "OPTIONS * HTTP/1.0" 200 - "-" "Apache (internal dummy connection)" The spammer's site shows an exact up to date copy of my site, so I think they are pulling in live data. Any idea how I can block this traffic?

• Nameserver Problem

  I installed Virtualmin GPL with BIND, etc. I created a virtual host for my main domain, and edited the zone file, added the A records for the nameservers ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com. All looks good from the VPS, whenever I do a dig or nslookup, all seems fine, returning correct details. But when I test externally, there are no results. I tried several sites such as intodns, etc. It says my nameservers doesn't point to any IP. I have registered my nameservers with the appropriate IP in my registrar, and I even contacted support to verify this, and they told me that the registration was successful, but when they dig my nameservers, there's no ip address. I can also connect to my server IP's port 53. Also, I know that the DNS propagation is 24-48 hours. But there has to be some server that can return the correct results by now. Please lead me to the right direction, thanks.

  Now, for a number of reasons I need to ping several hosts on a regular basis for a dashboard display.   I upgraded my PC to 4 GB RAM and I get only 3 GB. Windows 7 32-Bit consider that I've 4 GB RAM but didn't use more than 3 GB. Someone told me that MS Windows 32-bit doesn't support RAM larger than 3 GB. So please is there any way to make my OS "Windows 7 32-Bit" support more than 3 GB RAM ? *`Note: I can't move to 64-bit because I've many program doesn't work with a 64-bit OS. Edit:: I tried what Mr. Wonsungi advised me but whenever I check this option: Enable support for 4 GB of RAM I get the following error: 'Cannot access to the registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{E88DCCE0-11d1-A9F0-00AA0060FA31}.' There is no "CLSID" in my registry, I don't know why!.

• Enable 8th bit as Meta in zsh without a warning

  In my quest to configure my shell to work exactly how I want it with respect to the alt/meta key I am having some trouble. Recently I added "bindkey -m" to my .zshrc and now whenever I start a zsh shell (ie open a terminal window) I get this error "warning: `bindkey -m' disables multibyte support". Now since I don't care much about multibyte support atm, is there a way I can disable just this warning? Even better would be a way to use 8th-bit meta as well as multibyte. Also note that this happens on a clean zsh install on 4.3.9 and 4.3.10 My reasoning for wanting bindkey -m vim: alt mappings (my own personal commands/mappings) zsh: alt mappings (such as Alt-. to recall the last argument of the previous command) emacs: alt mappings (lots of built-ins) So, is there any way to disable this warning or otherwise accomplish what I'm trying to do?

• Uninstall nginx on Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS remote machine

  I was given a server to setup, problem is this server was no reset, and the provider is quite slow on resetting it, so I have to completely uninstall some stuff it has, one of which is nginx. I had a few problems when doing setup on my local machine for nginx due to multiple installations of it, so I want to avoid the same mistake now. Problem is, I got no idea how nginx was installed here, and I need to remove it. When I access the server thro SSH i only have this folder $HOME/backups/nginx any idea how to uninstall this? Whenever I google it only come up with apt-get uninstall and so forth. Thank you
