  • Passing a ManagedObjectContext to a second view

    - by amo
I'm writing my first iPhone/Cocoa app. It has two table views inside a navigation view. When you touch a row in the first table view, you are taken to the second table view. I would like the second view to display records from the CoreData entities related to the row you touched in the first view. I have the CoreData data showing up fine in the first table view. You can touch a row and go to the second table view. I'm able to pass info from the selected object from the first to the second view. But I cannot get the second view to do its own CoreData fetching. For the life of me I cannot get the managedObjectContext object to pass to the second view controller. I don't want to do the lookups in the first view and pass a dictionary because I want to be able to use a search field to refine results in the second view, as well as insert new entries to the CoreData data from there. Here's the function that transitions from the first to the second view. - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { // Navigation logic may go here -- for example, create and push another view controller. NSManagedObject *selectedObject = [[self fetchedResultsController] objectAtIndexPath:indexPath]; SecondViewController *secondViewController = [[SecondViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"SecondView" bundle:nil]; secondViewController.tName = [[selectedObject valueForKey:@"name"] description]; secondViewController.managedObjectContext = [self managedObjectContext]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:secondViewController animated:YES]; [secondViewController release]; } And this is the function inside SecondViewController that crashes: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; self.title = tName; NSError *error; if (![[self fetchedResultsController] performFetch:&error]) { // <-- crashes here // Handle the error... } } - (NSFetchedResultsController *)fetchedResultsController { if (fetchedResultsController != nil) { return fetchedResultsController; } /* Set up the fetched results controller. */ // Create the fetch request for the entity. NSFetchRequest *fetchRequest = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; // Edit the entity name as appropriate. // **** crashes on the next line because managedObjectContext == 0x0 NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"SecondEntity" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; [fetchRequest setEntity:entity]; // <snip> ... more code here from Apple template, never gets executed because of the crashing return fetchedResultsController; } Any ideas on what I am doing wrong here? managedObjectContext is a retained property. UPDATE: I inserted a NSLog([[managedObjectContext registeredObjects] description]); in viewDidLoad and it appears managedObjectContext is being passed just fine. Still crashing, though. Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: '+entityForName: could not locate an NSManagedObjectModel for entity name 'SecondEntity''

  • Showing login view controller before main tab bar controller

    - by Padawan
I'm creating an iPad app with a tab bar controller that requires login. So on launch, I want to show a LoginViewController and if login is successful, then show the tab bar controller. This is how I implemented an initial test version (left out some typical header stuff, etc)... AppDelegate.h: @interface AppDelegate_Pad : NSObject <UIApplicationDelegate, LoginViewControllerDelegate> { UIWindow *window; UITabBarController *tabBarController; } @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIWindow *window; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UITabBarController *tabBarController; @end AppDelegate.m: @implementation AppDelegate_Pad @synthesize window; @synthesize tabBarController; - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { LoginViewController_Pad *lvc = [[LoginViewController_Pad alloc] initWithNibName:@"LoginViewController_Pad" bundle:nil]; lvc.delegate = self; [window addSubview:lvc.view]; //[lvc release]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; } - (void)loginViewControllerDidFinish:(LoginViewController_Pad *)loginViewController { [window addSubview:tabBarController.view]; } - (void)dealloc {...} @end LoginViewController_Pad.h: @protocol LoginViewControllerDelegate; @interface LoginViewController_Pad : UIViewController { id<LoginViewControllerDelegate> delegate; } @property (nonatomic, assign) id <LoginViewControllerDelegate> delegate; - (IBAction)buttonPressed; @end @protocol LoginViewControllerDelegate -(void)loginViewControllerDidFinish:(LoginViewController_Pad *)loginViewController; @end LoginViewController_Pad.m: @implementation LoginViewController_Pad @synthesize delegate; ... - (IBAction)buttonPressed { [self.view removeFromSuperview]; [self.delegate loginViewControllerDidFinish:self]; } ... @end So the app delegate adds the login view controller's view on launch and waits for login to call "did finish" using a delegate. The login view controller calls removeFromSuperView before it calls didFinish. The app delegate then calls addSubView on the tab bar controller's view. If you made it up to this point, thanks, and I have three questions: MAIN QUESTION: Is this the right way to show a view controller before the app's main tab bar controller is displayed? Even though it seems to work, is it a proper way to do it? If I comment out the "lvc release" in the app delegate then the app crashes with EXC_BAD_ACCESS when the button on the login view controller is pressed. Why? With the "lvc release" commented out everything seems to work but on the debugger console it writes this message when the app delegate calls addSubView for the tab bar controller: Using two-stage rotation animation. To use the smoother single-stage animation, this application must remove two-stage method implementations. What does that mean and do I need to worry about it?

  • ClassCastException when casting custom View subclass

    - by Jens Jacob
    Hi I've run into an early problem with developing for android. I've made my own custom View (which works well). In the beginning i just added it to the layout programmatically, but i figured i could try putting it into the XML layout instead (for consistency). So what i got is this: main.xml: [...] <sailmeter.gui.CompassView android:id="@+id/compassview1" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_below="@id/widget55" android:background="@color/white" /> [...] CompassView.java: public class CompassView extends View { } SailMeter.java (activity class): public class SailMeter extends Activity implements PropertyChangeListener { public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); compassview = (CompassView) findViewById(R.id.compassview1); [...] } } (Theres obviously more, but you get the point) Now, this is the stacktrace: 05-23 16:32:01.991: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10742): Uncaught handler: thread main exiting due to uncaught exception 05-23 16:32:02.051: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10742): java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to start activity ComponentInfo{sailmeter.gui/sailmeter.gui.SailMeter}: java.lang.ClassCastException: android.view.View 05-23 16:32:02.051: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10742): at android.app.ActivityThread.performLaunchActivity(ActivityThread.java:2596) 05-23 16:32:02.051: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10742): at android.app.ActivityThread.handleLaunchActivity(ActivityThread.java:2621) 05-23 16:32:02.051: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10742): at android.app.ActivityThread.access$2200(ActivityThread.java:126) 05-23 16:32:02.051: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10742): at android.app.ActivityThread$H.handleMessage(ActivityThread.java:1932) 05-23 16:32:02.051: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10742): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 05-23 16:32:02.051: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10742): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:123) 05-23 16:32:02.051: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10742): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4595) 05-23 16:32:02.051: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10742): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 05-23 16:32:02.051: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10742): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:521) 05-23 16:32:02.051: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10742): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:860) 05-23 16:32:02.051: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10742): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:618) 05-23 16:32:02.051: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10742): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) 05-23 16:32:02.051: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10742): Caused by: java.lang.ClassCastException: android.view.View 05-23 16:32:02.051: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10742): at sailmeter.gui.SailMeter.onCreate(SailMeter.java:51) 05-23 16:32:02.051: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10742): at android.app.Instrumentation.callActivityOnCreate(Instrumentation.java:1047) 05-23 16:32:02.051: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10742): at android.app.ActivityThread.performLaunchActivity(ActivityThread.java:2544) 05-23 16:32:02.051: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10742): ... 11 more Why cant i cast my custom view? I need it to be that type since it has a few extra methods in it that i want to access. Should i restructure it and have another class handle the logic, and then just having the view being a view? Thanks for any help.

  • Autocomplettextview filtered by input keys

    - by soclose
    Hi I use autocompletetextview with SimpleCursorAdapter to get data from sqlite. I'd like to get its drop down list started by the entered key. In my autocompletetextview, the list is not shown or filtered by input text. eg, If user enter "an", all text started with "an" will be seen in this list. In Java public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.new); txtPNo = (AutoCompleteTextView) findViewById(R.id.txtSTo); mDbHelper = new DBAdapter(this); mDbHelper.open(); SimpleCursorAdapter notes = fillToData(); txtPhoneNo.setAdapter(notes); } private SimpleCursorAdapter fillToData() { Cursor c = mDbHelper.getName(); startManagingCursor(c); String[] from = new String[] {DBAdapter.Name,DBAdapter.No1}; int[] to = new int[] {R.id.txtName,R.id.txtNo1}; Log.d(TAG, "cursor.getCount()=" + c.getCount()); SimpleCursorAdapter notes = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this, R.layout.autocomplete, c, from, to); return notes; } In new.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <RelativeLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:background="#ffffff" > <AutoCompleteTextView android:id="@+id/txtSTo" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:textSize="18sp" android:textColor="#000000" android:hint="To" android:completionThreshold="1" android:selectAllOnFocus="true" android:layout_alignParentTop = "true" android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"/> </RelativeLayout> In autocomplete.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <TableLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:stretchColumns="0" android:padding="5dp"> <TableRow android:padding="5dp"> <LinearLayout android:orientation="vertical"> <TextView android:id="@+id/txtName" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:textColor="#000000" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/txtNo1" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:textColor="#000000" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> </LinearLayout> </TableRow> </TableLayout> How to implement to get just filtered list?

  • Hiding iPhone Status Bar pulls my tableViews up by 20px

    - by JustinXXVII
When doing an asynchronous HTTP request, I hide the iPhone status bar and animate in my own custom UIViewController to show upload status. So instead of seeing signal strength, carrier, time and battery life, the user gets messages based on the progress of the HTTP request. My status bar is exactly 20px high, and fits nicely where the status bar used to be. When the HTTP activity is done, the custom view animates out and the iPhone status bar animates back in. I would like to just avoid hiding the iPhone status bar completely, and instead bring my custom view ON TOP of the status bar. Currently, if I invoke my custom view animation and keep the iPhone status bar set to visible, my custom view is behind it. This is the code I have: -(void) animateStatusBarIn { CGRect statusFrame = CGRectMake(0.0f, -20.0f, 320.0f, 20.0f); UploadStatusBar *statusView = [[UploadStatusBar alloc] initWithNibName:@"UploadStatusBar" bundle:nil]; self.status = statusView; [statusView release]; status.view.frame = statusFrame; [[UIApplication sharedApplication] setStatusBarHidden:YES animated:YES]; [window addSubview:status.view]; [UIView beginAnimations:@"slideDown" context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.3]; [UIView setAnimationDelegate:self]; [UIView setAnimationDidStopSelector:@selector(animationFinished:)]; status.view.frame = CGRectMake(0.0f, 0.0f, 320.0f, 20.0f); [UIView commitAnimations]; } -(void) animateStatusBarOut { [UIView beginAnimations:@"slideUp" context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.3]; [UIView setAnimationDelegate:self]; [UIView setAnimationDidStopSelector:@selector(animationFinished:)]; status.view.frame = CGRectMake(0.0f, -20.0f, 320.0f, 20.0f); [UIView commitAnimations]; } -(void)animationFinished:(NSString *)name { if ([name isEqualToString:@"slideDown"]) { } if ([name isEqualToString:@"slideUp"]) { [[UIApplication sharedApplication]setStatusBarHidden:NO animated:YES]; [status.view removeFromSuperview]; } } Without the [[UIApplication sharedApplication]setStatusBarHidden:YES animated:YES] you can't see my custom view. How can I get my custom view to just appear on top of the status bar so I don't have to hide it? Thank you!

  • Sharing a file from Android to Gmail or to Dropbox

    - by Calaf
To share a simple text file, I started by copying verbatim from FileProvider's manual page: <application android:allowBackup="true" android:icon="@drawable/ic_launcher" android:label="@string/app_name" android:theme="@style/AppTheme" > <provider android:name="android.support.v4.content.FileProvider" android:authorities="com.mycorp.helloworldtxtfileprovider.MainActivity" android:exported="false" android:grantUriPermissions="true" > <meta-data android:name="android.support.FILE_PROVIDER_PATHS" android:resource="@xml/my_paths" /> </provider> <activity android:name="com.mycorp.helloworldtxtfileprovider.MainActivity" ... Then I saved a text file and used, again nearly verbatim, the code under Sending binary content. (Notice that this applies more accurately in this case than "Sending text content" since we are sending a file, which happens to be a text file, rather than just a string of text.) For the convenience of duplication on your side, and since the code is in any case so brief, I'm including it here in full. public class MainActivity extends Activity { @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.activity_main); String filename = "hellow.txt"; String fileContents = "Hello, World!\n"; byte[] bytes = fileContents.getBytes(); FileOutputStream fos = null; try { fos = this.openFileOutput(filename, MODE_PRIVATE); fos.write(bytes); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } finally { try { fos.close(); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } File file = new File(filename); Intent shareIntent = new Intent(); shareIntent.setAction(Intent.ACTION_SEND); shareIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_STREAM, Uri.fromFile(file)); shareIntent.setType("application/txt"); startActivity(Intent.createChooser(shareIntent, getResources().getText(R.string.send_to))); file.delete(); } } Aside from adding a value for send_to in res/values/strings.xml, the only other change I did to the generic Hello, World that Eclipse creates is to add the following in res/xml/my_paths.xml (as described on the page previously referenced. <paths xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <Files-path name="files" path="." /> </paths> This code runs fine. It shows a list of intent recipients. But sending the text file to either Dropbox or to Gmail fails. Dropbox sends the notification "Uploading to Dropbox" followed by "Upload failed: my_file.txt". After "sending message.." Gmail sends "Couldn't send attachment". What is wrong?

I need to navigate through station names in listview, using previous, next buttons click. I google for this task and tried in different ways to workout bt im not able to solve. shall any one pls help me out for this issue. Thanks in advance...... • Odd values/movement with UITouch and CGPoint.

    - by Joshua
    I'm getting odd numbers from UITouch and CGPoint and one is different, I also think this maybe causing a flickering affect in my app when I try to move something by following a touch. This is the code I'm using: - (void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { NSLog(@"touchDown"); UITouch *touch = [touches anyObject]; firstTouch = [touch locationInView:self.view]; if (CGRectContainsPoint(but.frame, firstTouch)) { butContains = YES; NSLog(@"butContains = %d", butContains); } } - (void)touchesMoved:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { UITouch *touch = [touches anyObject]; currentTouch = [touch locationInView:self.view]; NSInteger x = currentTouch.x; NSInteger y = currentTouch.y; CGFloat CGX = (CGFloat)x; CGFloat CGY = (CGFloat)y; if (butContains == YES) { NSLog(@"touch in subView/contentView"); sub.frame = CGRectMake(CGX, CGY, 130.0, 21.0); } NSLog(@"touch moved"); } - (void)touchesEnded:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { UITouch *touch = [touches anyObject]; currentTouch = [touch locationInView:self.view]; NSLog(@"User tapped at %@", NSStringFromCGPoint(currentTouch)); NSLog(@"Point %a, %a", currentTouch.x, currentTouch.y); NSInteger x = currentTouch.x; NSInteger y = currentTouch.y; NSLog(@"Point %a, %a", y, x); CGFloat CGX = (CGFloat)x; CGFloat CGY = (CGFloat)y; NSLog(@"Point %g, %g", CGX, CGY); if (butContains == YES) { NSLog(@"touch in subView/contentView"); sub.frame = CGRectMake(CGX, CGY, 130.0, 21.0); } butContains = NO; NSLog(@"touch ended"); } - (IBAction)add:(id)sender{ InSightViewController *contentView = [[InSightViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"SubView" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]]; [contentView loadView]; [self.view insertSubview:contentView.view atIndex:0]; } This is what I get from the touchesEnded method in the Debugger. 2010-04-20 20:06:13.045 InSight[25042:207] User tapped at {50, 78} 2010-04-20 20:06:13.047 InSight[25042:207] Point 0x1.9p+5, 0x1.38p+6 2010-04-20 20:06:13.048 InSight[25042:207] Point 0x1.900000027p-1037, 0x1.38p+6 2010-04-20 20:06:13.048 InSight[25042:207] Point 50, 78 And this is what's happening in the Simulator. fwdr.org/file:y8bd As this is a complicated problem this is the source code of my XCode Project aswell. http://cl.ly/Qjj

  • How can I pass latitude and longitude values from UIViewController to MKMapView?

    - by jerincbus
I have a detail view that includes three UIButtons, each of which pushes a different view on to the stack. One of the buttons is connected to a MKMapView. When that button is pushed I need to send the latitude and longitude variables from the detail view to the map view. I'm trying to add the string declaration in the IBAction: - (IBAction)goToMapView { MapViewController *mapController = [[MapViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"MapViewController" bundle:nil]; mapController.mapAddress = self.address; mapController.mapTitle = self.Title; mapController.mapLat = self.lat; mapController.mapLng = self.lng; //Push the new view on the stack [[self navigationController] pushViewController:mapController animated:YES]; [mapController release]; //mapController = nil; } And on my MapViewController.h file I have: #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import <MapKit/MapKit.h> #import "DetailViewController.h" #import "CourseAnnotation.h" @class CourseAnnotation; @interface MapViewController : UIViewController <MKMapViewDelegate> { IBOutlet MKMapView *mapView; NSString *mapAddress; NSString *mapTitle; NSNumber *mapLat; NSNumber *mapLng; } @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet MKMapView *mapView; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString *mapAddress; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString *mapTitle; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSNumber *mapLat; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSNumber *mapLng; @end And on the pertinent parts of the MapViewController.m file I have: @synthesize mapView, mapAddress, mapTitle, mapLat, mapLng; - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; [mapView setMapType:MKMapTypeStandard]; [mapView setZoomEnabled:YES]; [mapView setScrollEnabled:YES]; MKCoordinateRegion region = { {0.0, 0.0 }, { 0.0, 0.0 } }; region.center.latitude = mapLat; //40.105085; region.center.longitude = mapLng; //-83.005237; region.span.longitudeDelta = 0.01f; region.span.latitudeDelta = 0.01f; [mapView setRegion:region animated:YES]; [mapView setDelegate:self]; CourseAnnotation *ann = [[CourseAnnotation alloc] init]; ann.title = mapTitle; ann.subtitle = mapAddress; ann.coordinate = region.center; [mapView addAnnotation:ann]; } But I get this when I try to build: 'error: incompatible types in assignment' for both lat and lng variables. So my questions are am I going about passing the variables from one view to another the right way? And does the MKMapView accept latitude and longitude as a string or a number?

  • Multiple View App shows Blank Screen in Simulator

    - by Brett Coburn
Hello; I am developing a simple app that first shows a menu screen, and when a button is pressed, a game screen appears. I was able to develop the game screen without any issues, but when I changed the code to first display the menu, the simulator showed a blank screen. • launching mapview from main activity (button)

    - by arc
Hi all. Going round in circles here i think. I have an activity called Locate; public class Locate extends Activity { public static String lat; public static String lon; public static String number; public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.locate); final Button buttonMaps = (Button) findViewById(R.id.ButtonMaps); buttonMaps.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { Toast.makeText(getBaseContext(), "Button Pressed", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); try { Intent i = new Intent(getBaseContext(), displayMap.class); i.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); startActivity(i); } catch (ActivityNotFoundException e) { Toast.makeText(getBaseContext(), "Activity Not Found", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } }}); // Toast.makeText(getBaseContext(), "lat: " + lat + " long: " + lon + " from: " + testname, Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); } If I make the displayMap class into a normal Activity, and just have display a toast message confirming it has loaded - then it works fine. If i do this though; public class displayMap extends MapActivity { /** Called when the activity is first created. */ public void onCreate() { setContentView(R.layout.displaymap); Toast.makeText(getBaseContext(), "Display Map", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } @Override protected boolean isRouteDisplayed() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub return false; } } Then as soon as I click the Button, I get a force close. I have the correct 'uses-library' tag in my manifest; <application android:icon="@drawable/icon" android:label="@string/app_name"> <uses-library android:name="com.google.android.maps" /> I don't get what it just force closes everytime i try and load it. If I make this my onClick handler then it will fire up a working googlemaps/default mapview public void onClick(View v) { Toast.makeText(getBaseContext(), "Button Pressed", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); Uri uri=Uri.parse("geo:"+Locate.lat+","+Locate.lon); StartActivity(new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, uri)); } But that is not what I am trying to do, I want my own - so that I can add overlays etc to it. But it does prove that the permission are set correctly and that the lib is there. The logcat error when the app FCs is a Unexpected DEX error. Can anyone point in the right direction here?

  • Unexpected behavior of IntentService

    - by kknight
I used IntentService in my code instead of Service because IntentService creates a thread for me in onHandleIntent(Intent intent), so I don't have to create a Thead myself in the code of my service. I expected that two intents to the same IntentSerivce will execute in parallel because a thread is generated in IntentService for each invent. But my code turned out that the two intents executed in sequential way. This is my IntentService code: public class UpdateService extends IntentService { public static final String TAG = "HelloTestIntentService"; public UpdateService() { super("News UpdateService"); } protected void onHandleIntent(Intent intent) { String userAction = intent .getStringExtra("userAction"); Log.v(TAG, "" + new Date() + ", In onHandleIntent for userAction = " + userAction + ", thread id = " + Thread.currentThread().getId()); if ("1".equals(userAction)) { try { Thread.sleep(20 * 1000); } catch (InterruptedException e) { Log.e(TAG, "error", e); } Log.v(TAG, "" + new Date() + ", This thread is waked up."); } } } And the code call the service is below: public class HelloTest extends Activity { //@Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); Intent selectIntent = new Intent(this, UpdateService.class); selectIntent.putExtra("userAction", "1"); this.startService(selectIntent); selectIntent = new Intent(this, UpdateService.class); selectIntent.putExtra("userAction", "2"); this.startService(selectIntent); } } I saw this log message in the log: V/HelloTestIntentService( 848): Wed May 05 14:59:37 PDT 2010, In onHandleIntent for userAction = 1, thread id = 8 D/dalvikvm( 609): GC freed 941 objects / 55672 bytes in 99ms V/HelloTestIntentService( 848): Wed May 05 15:00:00 PDT 2010, This thread is waked up. V/HelloTestIntentService( 848): Wed May 05 15:00:00 PDT 2010, In onHandleIntent for userAction = 2, thread id = 8 I/ActivityManager( 568): Stopping service: com.example.android/.UpdateService The log shows that the second intent waited the first intent to finish and they are in the same thread. It there anything I misunderstood of IntentService. To make two service intents execute in parallel, do I have to replace IntentService with service and start a thread myself in the service code? Thanks.

  • Using android gesture on top of menu buttons

    - by chriacua
What I want is to have an options menu where the user can choose to navigate the menu between: 1) touching a button and then pressing down on the trackball to select it, and 2) drawing predefined gestures from Gestures Builder As it stands now, I have created my buttons with OnClickListener and the gestures with GestureOverlayView. Then I select starting a new Activity depending on whether the using pressed a button or executed a gesture. However, when I attempt to draw a gesture, it is not picked up. Only pressing the buttons is recognized. The following is my code: public class Menu extends Activity implements OnClickListener, OnGesturePerformedListener { @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); //create TextToSpeech myTTS = new TextToSpeech(this, this); myTTS.setLanguage(Locale.US); //create Gestures mLibrary = GestureLibraries.fromRawResource(this, R.raw.gestures); if (!mLibrary.load()) { finish(); } // Set up click listeners for all the buttons. • ListActivity problem when using with RelativeLayout

    - by tomgamer
    Newb alert, I'm sure I'm doing something dumb here. I've been progressively expanding my UI, and I want to add a ListView in the middle of my UI. When I add it and change the activity to extend a ListActivity instead of just an Activity, I'm getting a Force Close. Using 1.5. Does a ListView not work embedded in a RelativeLayout? Thanks public class Categories extends ListActivity{ final static String[] ITEMS = {"blah", "floop", "gnarlp", "stuff"}; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.categories); ArrayAdapter<String> adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.listrow, R.id.textview, ITEMS); setListAdapter(adapter); XML looks like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <RelativeLayout android:id="@+id/RelativeLayout01" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <ImageView android:id="@+id/ImageView01" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:scaleType="center" android:background="@drawable/background"> </ImageView> <ImageView android:id="@+id/ImageView02" android:src="@drawable/cat_heading" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"> </ImageView> <ListView android:id="@+id/ListView01" android:layout_below="@id/ImageView02" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"></ListView> <RelativeLayout android:id="@+id/RelativeLayout02" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_alignBottom="@+id/RelativeLayout01" android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"> <ImageButton android:id="@+id/ImageButtonRecipes" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" android:src="@drawable/recipes"></ImageButton> <ImageButton android:id="@+id/ImageButtonSearch" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" android:layout_toRightOf="@+id/ImageButtonRecipes" android:src="@drawable/search"></ImageButton> </RelativeLayout> </RelativeLayout> and the listrow.xml: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> <TextView android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:id="@+id/textview"/> </LinearLayout>

  • Creating a ListView and setting the background color of a view in each row.

    - by Tarmon
Hey Everyone, I am trying to implement a ListView that is composed of rows that contain a View on the left followed by a TextView to the right of that. I want to be able to change the background color of the first View based on it's position in the ListView. Below is what I have at this point but it doesn't seem to due anything. public class Routes extends ListActivity { String[] ROUTES; TextView selection; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); ROUTES = getResources().getStringArray(R.array.routes); setContentView(R.layout.routes); setListAdapter(new IconicAdapter()); selection=(TextView)findViewById(R.id.selection); } public void onListItemClick(ListView parent, View v, int position, long id) { selection.setText(ROUTES[position]); } class IconicAdapter extends ArrayAdapter<String> { IconicAdapter() { super(Routes.this, R.layout.row, R.id.label, ROUTES); } } public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { LayoutInflater inflater = getLayoutInflater(); View row = inflater.inflate(R.layout.row, parent, false); TextView label = (TextView) row.findViewById(R.id.label); label.setText(ROUTES[position]); View icon = (View) row.findViewById(R.id.icon); switch(position){ case 0: icon.setBackgroundColor(R.color.Red); break; case 1: icon.setBackgroundColor(R.color.Red); break; case 2: icon.setBackgroundColor(R.color.Green); break; case 3: icon.setBackgroundColor(R.color.Green); break; case 4: icon.setBackgroundColor(R.color.Blue); break; case 5: icon.setBackgroundColor(R.color.Blue); break; } return(row); } } Any input is appreciated and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask! Thanks, Rob

  • iPhone App not saving values to .plist file

    - by Trent
Hey everyone. I am working on an app that displays a modal the first time the consumer uses it. I have a .plist file that will store the information I request once the Save button is pressed. I can read from the .plist file fine and when I run my save method it SEEMS to work fine but the .plist file is not updating. I'm not so sure of the problem here. I show the modal like this. - (void) getConsumerInfo { NSString *filePath = [[[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath] stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"consumer.plist"]; NSMutableDictionary *plistConsumerInfo = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:filePath]; NSString *hasAppeared = [plistConsumerInfo objectForKey:@"HasAppeared"]; if(hasAppeared != kHasAppeared) { ConsumerInfoViewController *tmpConsumerInfoVC = [[ConsumerInfoViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"ConsumerInfoView" bundle:nil]; self.consumerInfoViewController = tmpConsumerInfoVC; [self presentModalViewController:consumerInfoViewController animated:YES]; [tmpConsumerInfoVC release]; } } This is called by the viewDidLoad method in the first view phone when the app is started. Within the consumerInfoViewController I have textfields that have data entered and when the Save button is pressed it calls this method. - (IBAction)saveConsumerInfo:(id)sender { NSString *filePath = [[[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath] stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"consumer.plist"]; NSMutableDictionary *plistDict = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:filePath]; NSString *tmpDiversName = txtDiversName.text; NSString *tmpLicenseType = txtLicenseType.text; NSString *tmpLicenseNum = txtLicenseNumber.text; NSString *tmpHasAppeared = @"1"; NSString *tmpNumJumps = @"3"; [plistDict setValue:[[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"%@", tmpDiversName] forKey:@"ConsumerName"]; [plistDict setValue:[[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"%@", tmpLicenseType] forKey:@"LicenseType"]; [plistDict setValue:[[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"%@", tmpLicenseNum] forKey:@"LicenseNumb"]; [plistDict setValue:[[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"%@", tmpNumJumps] forKey:@"NumJumps"]; [plistDict setValue:[[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"%d", tmpHasAppeared] forKey:@"Show"]; [plistDict writeToFile:filePath atomically: YES]; NSLog([[NSString alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:filePath]); [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; } This all runs fine with no hiccups but the file is never updated. I would like it to update so I can use this information throughout the app and update the flag so it will not show the view again once the data is entered. Please let me know if there is anymore information you need. Thanks in advance!

  • Symfony2 - PdfBundle not working

    - by ElPiter
Using Symfony2 and PdfBundle to generate dynamically PDF files, I don't get to generate the files indeed. Following documentation instructions, I have set up all the bundle thing: autoload.php: 'Ps' => __DIR__.'/../vendor/bundles', 'PHPPdf' => __DIR__.'/../vendor/PHPPdf/lib', 'Imagine' => array(__DIR__.'/../vendor/PHPPdf/lib', __DIR__.'/../vendor/PHPPdf/lib/vendor/Imagine/lib'), 'Zend' => __DIR__.'/../vendor/PHPPdf/lib/vendor/Zend/library', 'ZendPdf' => __DIR__.'/../vendor/PHPPdf/lib/vendor/ZendPdf/library', AppKernel.php: ... new Ps\PdfBundle\PsPdfBundle(), ... I guess all the setting up is correctly configured, as I am not getting any "library not found" nor anything on that way... So, after all that, I am doing this in the controller: ... use Ps\PdfBundle\Annotation\Pdf; ... /** * @Pdf() * @Route ("/pdf", name="_pdf") * @Template() */ public function generateInvoicePDFAction($name = 'Pedro') { return $this->render('AcmeStoreBundle:Shop:generateInvoice.pdf.twig', array( 'name' => $name, )); } And having this twig file: <pdf> <dynamic-page> Hello {{ name }}! </dynamic-page> </pdf> Well. Somehow, what I just get in my page is just the normal html generated as if it was a normal Response rendering. The Pdf() annotation is supposed to give the "special" behavior of creating the PDF file instead of rendering normal HTML. So, having the above code, when I request the route http://www.mysite.com/*...*/pdf, all what I get is the following HTML rendered: <pdf> <dynamic-page> Hello Pedro! </dynamic-page> </pdf> (so a blank HTML page with just the words Hello Pedro! on it. Any clue? Am I doing anything wrong? Is it mandatory to have the alternative *.html.twig apart from the *.pdf.twig version? I don't think so... :(
