• manipulate objects outside svg with javascript-function inside the svg

  Hello! I'm embedding a svg-graphic on my website and i'd like to manipulate the rest of the website with javascript-commands which are in the svg - though i'm not sure if this is possible. Let me elaborate: I've got a worldmap in svg, i want to click on a country and this click should run an ajax-call and load relevant information of this country into a div in the html site where the svg is embedded. "onclick="location.href='xxx'"" redirects to the respective site which is fine, but i'd prefer to run a js-function that fetches the site with ajax - but running a javascript-function in the svg only seems to work for functions and elements defined in the svg, not outside of it. Is it basically possible to manipulate anything outside the svg through a js-function in the svg? How? Regards Christian

• How can I use the SSRS ReportViewer from VS 2008 in a VS2010 project?

  Hi, I'm working on an ASP.NET MVC 2 / .NET 3.5 project which includes SSRS 2008 reports. After migrating to VS 2010 RC, the new web forms report viewer has been giving so much trouble that I'd like to use the old report viewer from VS 2008 again. Now I'm just wondering what would be the easiest way to do that. The report viewer is embedded in a Webforms ASPX file which is loaded in an IFrame by the the MVC view. Report parameters are currently stored as session variables, and for security reasons I would prefer not to change that for HTTP POST or GET parameters. So I can't just put the report viewer in a separate application and build that with VS2008. Moving the entire project back to VS 2008 is not an option. So, what's the easiest way for me to use the VS 2008 ReportViewer in VS 2010? Is there way to grab an assembly from VS 2008 and use that in my project? Thanks, Adrian

• Eclipse Code Templates with Cobol

  People, My team is just beginning to learn how to use COBOL on Eclipse (as part of the Rational Developer for System Z package) and one of our most desired features are code templates or code snippets. What we'd like to have is a code completion based on snippets just like we have on Java. For example, when I type try and hit ctrl-space Eclipse shows me a list of completion options, where one of those is create a try/catch block. Well, in COBOL one could leverage this when creating, for example, embedded SQL blocks, like EXEC SQL SELECT field, field, field, FROM table WHERE field = value, field = value END-EXEC. However, for some reason, it seems that Eclipse treats COBOL a little differently (no wonder why) from other languages. As such, when looking for the code templates in the preferences menu for COBOL, its appearance is very different from the Java one. The question is: how does one uses Eclipse's code templates with COBOL?

• Error LNK1223 on ARM builds

  eMbedded Visual C++ 3 project, building for PocketPC 2000. On the ARM build, the linker throws the following error: fatal error LNK1223: invalid or corrupt file: file contains invalid pdata contributions On SH3, the project compiles, links, and works. The project also works when built for ARM on Visual C++ 2005, but I need to test builds specifically from eVC3. Any ideas, please? What's a pdata contribution and how do I affect (or disable) those? It's something to do with exception handling; I've tried disabling SEH by specifying /EHsc, to no effect.

• Show EPS file in IE8 with standards modes set to IE8

  <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE8"> With this set my EPS files are not rendered in ABCpdf, but set to EmulateIE7 and they work fine. I know EPS aren't a standard web format but they are embedded into a PDF using a bit of ABCpdf magic. • ASP.NET Load unmanaged dll from bin folder

  Question: I use an embedded Firebird database in ASP.NET. Now, Firebird has a .NET wrapper around native dlls. The problem is, with the .NET compilation and execution process, the dlls get shadow copied to a temporary folder. Unfortunately, only the .NET dlls, and not the native dll. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms366723.aspx for details. Now, this makes it necessary to put the unmanaged dll somewhere into the system32 directory (or any other directory in the path environment variable). Now, I want to change the wrapper/native dll (opensource), so it loads the dll also if they are only in the bin folder. Now, my problem is, how can I, in .NET, load an unmanaged dll from an absolute path ? The absolute path is determined at runtime, not at compile-time...

• Can't figure out jQuery ajax call parameters

Can someone explain the parameters and where quotes go and possibly rewrite my parameters line? • How to provide a fileDownloadName only if the user requests to save the file in ASP.NET MVC?

  I've got a controller action that returns a FileResult like this return this.File("file.pdf", "application/pdf"); for the URL "/Download/322" - where 322 is the id of the file. This works great, so that if a user clicks on a link to the PDF - it will open in their web browser as long as they have a PDF plugin installed. But, what if they right-click the link and choose "Save as..."? The browser pops up with the filename as "322." I'd like to have a better filename at this point, by doing something like this: return this.File("file.pdf", "application/pdf", "file.pdf"); But if I change the controller to return like that, then it will always pop up the download box, since MVC is setting the Content-Disposition header to attachment (so I can't embed the file). In summary, can I somehow detect that the user is trying to download the file vs. the file is just being embedded in something on the page?

• Enumerating .NET assembly resources at runtime

  I have a resource assembly with image files in it that are built using Resource or Content build action. This makes these files accessible using the Uris. However I cannot find the way to enumerate such resources. If I set the build action to Embedded Resource it becomes possible to enumerate the files with the following code: string[] resources = Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetManifestResourceNames(); but it in turn makes these files inaccessible using Uris. The question is - how to enumerate resources that are compiled with either Resource or Content build action? NOTE: As Thomas Levesque pointed out it is possible to enumerate such resources by leveraging the AssemblyAssociatedContentFileAttribute, but it seems to only work for WPF Application assemblies and not for class library ones. So the question is still open.

• Math problem: Determine the corner radius of an inner border based on outer corner radius/thickness

  Here's a math/geometry problem for the math whizzes (not my strongest subject). This is for WPF, but should be general enough to solve regardless: I have two embedded Border elements, with the outer one having a certain corner radius, R and border thickness, T. Given these two values, what should the corner radius of the inner Border, R' be set to such that the two corner edges meet with no overlap or holes? So far I've just been eyeballing it, but if someone can give me a proper formula that would be great. Respect points if you can!! ;)

• What can't I build in Silverlight?

  First, I know that Silverlight needs to be embedded in a website, usually an asp page. I understand I need a delivery boy. My question is this; What types of apps/projects are so filled with technological hurdles as to make them ridiculous to do in Silverlight versus ASP.net? I know that with perseverance and flexibility I can probably make EVERY app in Silverlight, in some version or another, but which ones would be blatantly simple in, say ASP.net(or even WPF) but quite complicated in Silverlight? Basically what I am asking is if there is any reason I shouldn't consider Silverlight my first stop for every problem, obvious exceptions not with standing(a service or console). For me specifically, at this point, I am only building in house apps.

• .xcodeproj does not get committed with XCode's SCM Tool

  I am using the SCM Tools embedded in XCode to manage my app's versioning. I have created an iPhone app and I have added/committed it to the Subversion server but the .xcodeproj file won't upload (all the class files, resources etc are there)! I don't even get the option to "Add to Repository". Sometimes it gets an "A" (add) next to it under the "SCM" column but still, the next time I commit changes or commit entire project it still doesn't upload and show up on the server. As a result my team can't get and run the project. Is there a way to so something (other than just use the terminal or Versions)? Thank you.

• Silverlight standard loading animation does not get displayed.

  Can anybody enlighten me as to how the standard Silverlight loading animations (the swirling blue balls) are embedded in a Silverlight application and how they work? I currently don't see it although loading the xap takes long enough for the loading animation to be displayed. The problem is that I'm creating a xap dynamically and trying to write it to the Response Stream which might somehow interfere with the way most Silverlight applications work. So maybe there's something missing from the original aspx page or ClientBin that should be there that has been lost by accident. I haven't found any helpful information about how the loading animation is integrated into Silverlight that could help me debug the problem so far. Does anyone know what the animation needs to triggered as expected?

• Is there anything RAD comparable to VCL?

  After years in embedded programming, I have to develop a Windows app. I dug out my old C++ Builder and Delphi. These are great and the latest version costs over $1k, so I won't be going there. What I prarticularly like is the VCL (visual component library) which let's me code my own components and share them with others, plus the thousands of existing 3rd party components. I noticed that there is now also a RAD PHP from Borland too. I realzie that MSVC, QT, NetBeans, etc are good enough IDEs for RAD, BUT does anything offer the ease of the Borland products for developing additional components - and does anything else have thousands to choose from? PC based? Cross-platform is good. Browser based? Free is always good ;-) I don't particularly care about the programming language.

• Include OpenX ad in a jquery-ui dialog?

  I'm loading some content into a jquery-ui dialog via .ajax. That's all working fine but now I've been given an OpenX ad to embed into the dialog & can't figure out how to do it. I know all the script is stripped when coming in via ajax, & I know how to use $.getScript to load .js files for use in the dialog, but the OpenX ad script I've got uses document.write so I think it's expecting to be embedded inline into the desired position on the page. I've tried appending the escaped script string into the div on ajax success of the main content as below, but this results in the page being redirected to a page with just the ad on it. Attempt shown below: $("#" + idHelpPage).find(".adScript").append("<script type='text/javascript'>var m3_u = (location.protocol=='https:'?'https://d1.openx.org/ajs.php':'http://d1.openx.org/ajs.php');var m3_r = ... etc etc I'm ok with jquery but not great with javascript, would really appreciate any help! • How to embed PDF in a web page using Acrobat Reader instead of Acrobat.

  I have a pdf form that uses Acrobat 8 features. The form contains Javascript that interacts with the hosting web page. Some of my Windows users have both Adobe Acrobat and Acrobat Reader installed, and need Adobe Acrobat to be the default handler for pdf files. The users with Adobe Acrobat 7 are unable to use the form, even though they might have Acrobat Reader 8 or 9 installed. • Text editor with spell checker that ignores (X)HTML/CSS/javascript tags?

  Do you know of any text editor that can be used with a spell checker which is smart enough to ignore XHML/CSS and javascript tags? The requirements would be: It must run in Linux; It must be free and open source; It doesn't need to have WYSIWYG capabilities, but they would be welcome. It must have built in "tag skipping" capabilities or be configurable to skip (X)HTML tags, CSS and embedded Javascript; It doesn't need to have a HTML validator, but if it does it will be a plus; I've tried to use spell checker plugins for Kate, HTML validators for Firefox, Eclipse's HTML editor, but I couldn't find a solution that have a speel checker that ignores hml tags. • Back button loop with IFRAMES

  In my (school) website we use Iframes to display class blogs (on blogger). This works well EXCEPT if the user then clicks on (say) a photo inside the iframe. Blogger (in this case) then displays the photo in the whole browser window and the back button loops; that is if the back button is hit, the browser (IE, FF, Chrome) stays on the same page. The only way out is for the user to jump back two pages (which many of our users don't know how to do). I've read a lot of posts on back buttons and iframes and there doesn't appear to be a simple solution. Bear in mind that I don't have control over the iframe content (so no embedded back buttons in the frame are possible). Ideas anyone?

• Cross compiling unit tests with CppUnit or similar

  Has anyone used a package like CppUnit to cross-compile C++ unit tests to run on an embedded platform? I'm using G++ on a Linux box to compile executables that must be run on a LynxOS board. I can't seem to get any of the common unit test packages to configure and build something that will create unit tests. I see a lot of unit test packages, CppUnit, UnitTest++, GTest, CppUTest, etc., but very little about using these packages in a cross-compiler scenario. The ones with a "configure" script imply that this is possible, but I can't seem to get them to configure and build.

  In our windows application, we used crystal reports. If a customer needed a custom report, we could create it and then send them the rpt file. The customer would then simply add the report file to a custom folder, and could access it directly from our application. Using a web app, how is this possible. It seems like anything created, using ssrs, crystal, or even telerik reporting must be embedded. What are some methods for providing custom reports to users of an asp.net web application?

• Is there a JS diff library against htmlstring just like google-diff-match-patch on plain text?

  Currently I am using google-diff-match-patch to implement a real-time editing tool, which can synchronize texts between multiple users. Everything works great when operations are only plain texts, each user's operation(add/delete texts) could be diff-ed out by comparing to old text snapshot with the helper of google-diff. But when rich format texts(like bold/italic) are involved, google-diff not working well when comparing the htmlstring. The occurrence of character of < and > messed up the diff results, especially when bold/italic format are embedded within each other. Could anyone suggest a similar library like google-diff to diff htmlstrings? Or any suggestions can get my problem fixed with google-diff? I understood google-diff is designed for plain text, but really didn't find a better library than it so far, so it also works if a doable enhancement to google-diff can help. Thanks for any comments. • Scrollable div on iPhone without using 2 fingers?

  Hi there; I've got a UIWebView embedded in my iPhone app, and I'd like to keep a locked header and footer DIV on the page at all times, with a scrollable center DIV. I know that I could do this using a header/footer that are UIView controls, but I want the header and footer to be HTML divs, as a pure HTML/JS/CSS solution will be easier to port to Android/PalmPre/AdobeAir, which is going to be on my todo list relatively soon. I can do this using techniques like the one mentioned here: http://defunc.com/blog/?p=94 But this requires that the user use 2 fingers to scroll the div, which is not satisfactory to me...   People use gdb on and off for debugging, of course there are lots of other debugging tools across the varied OSes, with and without GUI and, maybe other fancy IDE features. I would like to know what useful gdb scripts you have written and liked. While, I do not mean a dump of commands in a something.gdb file that you source to pull out a bunch of data, if that made your day, go ahead and talk about it. Lets think conditional processing, control loops and functions written for more elegant and refined programming to debug and, maybe even for whitebox testing Things get interesting when you start debugging remote systems (say, over a serial/ethernet interface) And, what if the target is a multi-processor (and, multithreaded) system Let me put a simple case as an example... Say, A script that traversed serially over entries to locate a bad entry in a large hash-table that is implemented on an embedded platform. That helped me debug a broken hash-table once.
