• Can a proxy server cache SSL GETs? If not, would response body encryption suffice?

  Can a (||any) proxy server cache content that is requested by a client over https? As the proxy server can't see the querystring, or the http headers, I reckon they can't. I'm considering a desktop application, run by a number of people behind their companies proxy. This application may access services across the internet and I'd like to take advantage of the in-built internet caching infrastructure for 'reads'. If the caching proxy servers can't cache SSL delivered content, would simply encrypting the content of a response be a viable option? I am considering all GET requests that we wish to be cachable be requested over http with the body encrypted using asymmetric encryption, where each client has the decryption key. Anytime we wish to perform a GET that is not cachable, or a POST operation, it will be performed over SSL.

  I am already using output caching in my ASP.NET MVC application. Page speed tells me to specify HTTP cache expiration for css and images in the response header. I know that the Response object contains some properties that control cache expiration. I know that these properties can be used to control HTTP caching for response that I am serving from my code: Response.Expires Response.ExpiresAbsolute Response.CacheControl or alternatively Response.AddHeader("Expires", "Thu, 01 Dec 1994 16:00:00 GMT"); The question is how do I set the Expires header for resources that are served automatically, e.g. images, css and such?

  Relative newbie to C# here :) I'm currently creating a web link scraper and having issues with the responses I'm getting when trying to login to the website via my program. I'm trying to use Fiddler to see if my program is sending the proper data, but my program is throwing an AuthenticationException when trying to get a response from the site with Fiddler running. The requests are being sent over HTTPS and Fiddler's certificate is the cause of the excepting being thrown. My question is, what can I implement into my program to have it disregard the certificate authentication? As far as my program goes, the requests and responses are being handled by HttpWebRequest and HttpWebResponse classes.

  Given a GUI application where widgets can be composed of other widgets: If the user triggers an event resulting in a lower level widget needing data from a model, what's the cleanest way to be able to send that request to a controller (or the datastore itself)? And subsequently get the response back to that widget? Presumably one wouldn't want the controller or datastore to be a singleton directly available to all levels of widgets, or is this an acceptable use of singleton? Or should a top level controller be injected as a dependency through a widget hierarchy, as far down as the lowest level widget that might need that controller? Or a different approach entirely?

  I have two classes, Tag and Hardware, defined with a simple parent-child relationship (see the full definition at the end). • Varnish waits for the complete page load before sending response to browser.

  I've setup varnish to sit in front of a tomcat server. What I've noticed is that Varnish seems to wait for the complete page to load (all css, js, etc) before it sends any response to the browser. This causes a huge lag before the user sees anything. If I bypass Varnish and go directly to the site, it responds immediately. While the total page load time might be similar, the perception is that the site is slow. Has anyone faced this?

• How do I filter out NaN FLOAT values in Teradata SQL?

  With the Teradata database, it is possible to load values of NaN, -Inf, and +Inf into FLOAT columns through Java. Unfortunately, once those values get into the tables, they make life difficult when writing SQL that needs to filter them out. There is no IsNaN() function, nor can you "CAST ('NaN' as FLOAT)" and use an equality comparison. What I would like to do is, SELECT SUM(VAL**2) FROM DTM WHERE NOT ABS(VAL) > 1e+21 AND NOT VAL = CAST ('NaN' AS FLOAT) but that fails with error 2620, "The format or data contains a bad character.", specifically on the CAST. I've tried simply "... AND NOT VAL = 'NaN'", which also fails for a similar reason (3535, "A character string failed conversion to a numeric value."). I cannot seem to figure out how to represent NaN within the SQL statement. Even if I could represent NaN successfully in an SQL statement, I would be concerned that the comparison would fail. According to the IEEE 754 spec, NaN = NaN should evaluate to false. What I really seem to need is an IsNaN() function. Yet that function does not seem to exist.

  Question In a Reporting Services Report, How do I filter a second drop down list of cars to only show cars whose ManufacturerId is equal the selected Manufacturer (from the first drop down list)? Report Datasets I have 2 datasets. Dataset 1. A list of Manufacturers. From a stored procedure Report_Manufacturers_P Dataset 2. A list of Cars, including a column called Manufacturers id. From a stored procedure Report_Cars_P Report Parameters On the Report I have 2 Parameters. Parameter 1. ManufacturerId. Set from A drop down list of Manufacturers (DataSet 1). Parameter 2. CarId. Set from A drop down list of Cars (DataSet 2). I've tried.. Creating another sproc called Report_Manufacturer_Cars_P that takes the ManufacturerId as an integer and returns a list of cars made by that manufacturer. Any Ideas. • How can I filter a Perl DBIx recordset with 2 conditions on the same column?

  I'm getting my feet wet in DBIx::Class - loving it so far. One problem I am running into is that I want to query records, filtering out records that aren't in a certain date range. It took me a while to find out how to do a "<=" type of match instead of an equality match: my $start_criteria = ">= $start_date"; my $end_criteria = "<= $end_date"; my $result = $schema->resultset('MyTable')->search( { 'status_date' => \$start_criteria, 'status_date' => \$end_criteria, }); The obvious problem with this is that since the filters are in a hash, I am overwriting the value for "status_date", and am only searching where the status_date <= $end_date. The SQL that gets executed is: SELECT me.* from MyTable me where status_date <= '9999-12-31' I've searched CPAN, Google and SO and haven't been able to figure out how to apply 2 conditions to the same column. All documentation I've been able to find shows how to filter on more than 1 column, but not 2 conditions on the same column. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious - hoping someone here can point it out to me? Thanks in advance! Brian

• Is there any way to filter certain things in pages served by IIS?

  Hello, This is my first time posting here so please keep that in mind... I'll try to be short and get right to defining the problem. We have an ASP.NET 2 application (eCommerce package) running on IIS (Windows Server 2003). The main site's page(s) are using plain HTTP (no SSL), but the whole checkout process and the shopping cart page is using SSL (HTTPS). Now, the problem is that the site's header is located in a template file, and inside it it has a plain HTML 'img' tag calling an image with the "http://" portion hard-coded into it... This header appears on absolutely every page (including the https pages), and due to its insecure image tag, a warning box pops up in IE on every stage of the checkout process... Now, the problem: The live application cannot be touched in any way (no changes can be made to the template (so simply changing "http://" to "//" is not an option), IIS cannot be restarted, and the website/app pool cannot be restarted). Is there any way in the world (maybe plugin for IIS or a setting somewhere) that I can filter the pages right before they are served to replace the '<img src="http://example.com/image.jpg">' with '<img src="//example.com/image.jpg">' in the final HTML? Possibly via a regular expression or something? Thanks to everybody in advance.

• What is the fastest way to filter a list of strings when making an Intellisense/Autocomplete list?

  Hello everyone, I'm writing an Intellisense/Autocomplete like the one you find in Visual Studio. It's all fine up until when the list contains probably 2000+ items. I'm using a simple LINQ statement for doing the filtering: var filterCollection = from s in listCollection where s.FilterValue.IndexOf(currentWord, StringComparison.OrdinalIgnoreCase) >= 0 orderby s.FilterValue select s; I then assign this collection to a WPF Listbox's ItemSource, and that's the end of it, works fine. Noting that, the Listbox is also virtualised as well, so there will only be at most 7-8 visual elements in memory and in the visual tree. However the caveat right now is that, when the user types extremely fast in the richtextbox, and on every key up I execute the filtering + binding, there's this semi-race condition, or out of sync filtering, like the first key stroke's filtering could still be doing it's filtering or binding work, while the fourth key stroke is also doing the same. I know I could put in a delay before applying the filter, but I'm trying to achieve a seamless filtering much like the one in Visual Studio. I'm not sure where my problem exactly lies, so I'm also attributing it to IndexOf's string operation, or perhaps my list of string's could be optimised in some kind of index, that could speed up searching. Any suggestions of code samples are much welcomed. Thanks.

• Is it possible in SQLAlchemy to filter by a database function or stored procedure?

  We're using SQLalchemy in a project with a legacy database. The database has functions/stored procedures. In the past we used raw SQL and we could use these functions as filters in our queries. I would like to do the same for SQLAlchemy queries if possible. I have read about the @hybrid_property, but some of these functions need one or more parameters, for example; I have a User model that has a JOIN to a bunch of historical records. These historical records for this user, have a date and a debit and credit field, so we can look up the balance of a user at a specific point in time, by doing a SUM(credit) - SUM(debit) up until the given date. We have a database function for that called dbo.Balance(user_id, date_time). I can use this to check the balance of a user at a given point in time. I would like to use this as a criterium in a query, to select only users that have a negative balance at a specific date/time. selection = users.filter(coalesce(Users.status, 0) == 1, coalesce(Users.no_reminders, 0) == 0, dbo.pplBalance(Users.user_id, datetime.datetime.now()) < -0.01).all() This is of course a non-working example, just for you to get the gist of what I'd like to do. The solution looks to be to use hybrd properties, but as I mentioned above, these only work without parameters (as they are properties, not methods). • Why is iTunes starting and stopping play randomly, and how do I stop it?

  Since yesterday morning my copy of iTunes has been starting and stopping randomly. If iTunes is not running, then it opens and sometimes begins playing, other times sits idle. Eventually, after a random interval it will begin playing a song, and then stop, and so on... Needless to say, it's driving me mad. (Mac OSX, 10.6.3, on a new-ish (< 1 year old) 24" iMac) I've made five changes to my system that may or may not be connected to this: My office phone was replaced with a Linksys IP Phone, which necessitated a change to my networking; where previously my Mac was connected directly to the office network port, now it is connected through the phone. My network connection now uses auto link detection in lieu of forcing 100Mbit I unpaired my bluetooth headset. I removed the USB audio device associated with another headset. I upgraded to Safari 5. I don't use it as a primary browser, but it's often open to run web apps that I'm developing. All of these things happened in pretty close proximity to each other, so one or more of them may be the culprit. One other thing that may or may not be related; for some reason my built-in microphone is no longer picking up audio. It seems like this might be connected to the iTunes issue, because it happened around the same time. In terms of things that I've tried in order to solve this, I'm at a bit of a loss. I followed the instructions at http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/technotes/tn2004/tn2124.html#SECLAUNCHDLOGGING to enable detailed launchd logging to see if I could track down which process was asking iTunes to open (when it's not already open) but I wasn't able to make heads or tails of the output. I'm not even sure if I'm looking in the right place, to be honest; it actually acts like something is activating the application with AppleScript, but I have no processes running that are doing that, as far as I know. I'm running a few apps that have iTunes integration: Adium, iChat with Chax, Quicksilver. None of these have been changed lately, so I consider them low risks of causing this, but it's not impossible. Moreover, I'm not using any of those features intentionally. • How can I filter /var/adm/wtmpx on Solaris 10?

  Some of our Solaris 10 servers are monitored using SiteScope, which uses Telnet to probe certain ports (SSH is one of them) every few minutes. This is creating an insane amount of lines in /var/adm/wtmpx, and eventually make it so big (2,5G+) that we can no longer run the last command, or that the uptime command is unable to accurately show the true uptime of the server. The error we get when trying to run the last command is this: /var/adm/wtmpx: Value too large for defined data type I have found ways we can clean this accounting log using a cron job (with the command /usr/lib/acct/fwtmp), and this works. This is not the issue. I was wondering if there would be a way to simply prevent connections from the monitoring user (in our case, user monsite) from creating entries in this accounting log at all. Is this possible, and if so, how can I do it? I've looked around and searched Google for a while, but couldn't find an answer to this question. NOTE: We are very well aware that the monitoring solution we employ is perhaps not the best one, but we cannot change it at this time. Therefore, suggesting that we change it is not pertinent to this question.   I've issues with a continuous, concerted cracking attempt on a website (coded in php). The main problem is sql-injection attempts, running on a Debian server. A secondary effect of the problem is being spidered or repeatedly spammed with urls that, though a security hole has been closed, are still obviously related attempts to crack the site, and continue to add load to the site, and thus should be blocked. So what measures can I take to: A: Block known intruders/known attack machines (notably making themselves anonymous via botnet or relaying servers) to prevent their repeated, continuous, timed access from affecting the load of the site, and B: report & respond to the attack (I'm aware that the reporting to law enforcement is almost certainly futile, as may be reporting to the ip/machine where the attacks are originating, but other responses to take would be welcome).

  Can a Barracuda SF 300 reject mail based on DNS? Specifically can it respond with a 4XX code for mail claiming to be from a domain without a valid MX or A record (similar to postfix's smtpd_sender_restrictions = reject_unknown_sender_domain). If so, how do I set it? (I realize it's probably something simple I've overlooked.) The barracuda can resolve using its configured name servers. The name servers can correctly resolve external domains.
