  • How to convert an MKV to AVI with minimal loss

    To convert an MKV to AVI, I do two things. The first thing I do is this: ffmpeg -i filename.mkv -vcodec copy -acodec copy output.avi or this: ffmpeg -i filename.mkv -sameq -acodec copy output.avi Either of these will convert the MKV to an AVI, but the problem is that the video does not play smoothly for some reason. That's fine though, because if I do one more thing it gets fixed: ffmpeg -i output.avi -vcodec mpeg4 -b 4000k -acodec mp2 -ab 320k converted.avi After I do this then the file plays without problem. I had success doing it this way for one file, but then I tried it on another file, and there is a slight, but noticeable loss in video quality.   • How can you toggle between two sets of values per data series in flot?

    flot has built-in support for multiple data series (sample code) and also dual-axis (sample code). Assuming multiple data series (water, electricity, etc) that each have an amount (usage) and a dollar value (charge for that usage), what would the best way be to to use flot to display either the amount or dollar values for all the data series, while still supporting toggling display for each individual series? The idea is to send down all the data in one GET request and then let the client take care of everything else in Javascript. Ideally we could use triplets somehow {date, amount, charge}, and then possibly split that into two arrays for flot.

    strtok wont work correctly when using char *str as the first parameter (not the delimiters string). does it have something to do with the area that allocates strings in that notation?     Iam trying to migrate from mysql to mariadb. On this time I can face an issue with mariadb. When I can trying to load a data file into a table, it shows an error like : SQL Error (29): File 'C:/Documents and Settings/Administrator/Local Settings/Temp/SAMPLE/DATA_TEMP1351761841668/SampleFile0' not found (Errcode: 2) But the file already exists in the path.... Another one point is that the same command successfully works with MySQL. Is MariaDB has any permission issue? Login as Administrator. See below my query : load data infile "'C:/Documents and Settings/Administrator/Local Settings/Temp/SAMPLE/DATA_TEMP1351761841668/SampleFile0" into table SAMPLETABLE; When changing the path loke "C:/SampleFile0", its working properly.     We have a server that has an open remote desktop port to the internet (no VPN.) Several people are allowed to log on to the machine remotely. The server runs Windows 7 (desktop OS.) I can find logon times using Event Viewer, but it does not show the IP address of the remote machine. At any rate, manually browsing Event Viewer for all login events would be time consuming, to say the least.) Is a way to find out which IP addresses are using Remote Dekstop ?

    I'm trying to find a utility that will allow me to generate a constant flow of random network traffic at a specified rate between 2 hosts. The utility needs to run on Windows and OSX. I've tried iperf but it seems to be more oriented toward short-term testing/statistics and it really taxes the CPU even at slower rates. I want something that will generate traffic for a few weeks at say 10Mbps while I use other tools to monitor the impact of that level of traffic on the network.

  • Blackberry Application not deploying in simulator from eclipse

    I wrote a first sample Hello World Program for BB in eclipse using the plugin and everything worked fine. But then I wrote another app, not much different from the first and I went to deploy it and the simulator opened but only the first application was there. I tried loading the .cod file from inside the simulator but that didn't work either. I also tried exiting and resetting the simulator and using the clean.bat file but none of that worked either. Finally I tried to load another sample program I downloaded from RIM and that worked just fine. Help! I'm completely stuck.

    Hello, I have followed the basic GWT tutorial for creating a project in Eclipse. Now, I am trying to build off what I learned in the tutorial. I created a static utility class to perform some database connection logic. However, when I try to compile I get: [ERROR] Line 46: No source code is available for type com.sample.server.ConnectionUtil; did you forget to inherit a required module? Where can I put simple classes that I've created on my own? Do they have to be outside the package structure of the basic module, 'com.sample'? Or do I have to specify a whole new module in the gwt.xml file and inherit from that? There has to be something simple I'm missing.

    This question may sound too silly, however , I don't find concrete answer any where else. With little knowledge on how late binding works and virtual keyword used in inheritance. As in the code sample, when in case of inheritance where a base class pointer pointing to a derived class object created on heap and delete operator is used to deallocate the memory , the destructor of the of the derived and base will be called in order only when the base destructor is declared virtual function. Now my question is : 1) When the destructor of base is not virtual, why the problem of not calling derived dtor occur only when in case of using "delete" operator , why not in the case given below: derived drvd; base *bPtr; bPtr = &drvd; //DTOR called in proper order when goes out of scope. 2) When "delete" operator is used, who is reponsible to call the destructor of the class? The operator delete will have an implementation to call the DTOR ? or complier writes some extra stuff ? If the operator has the implementation then how does it looks like , [I need sample code how this would have been implemented]. 3) If virtual keyword is used in this example, how does operator delete now know which DTOR to call? Fundamentaly i want to know who calls the dtor of the class when delete is used.   • OAS log files filling up hard drive

    We've had issues with log files for Oracle Application Server filling up the hard drive on our server. The files are in the /network/admin folder and are named server.log_XXXXX.trc and client.log_XXXXX.trc where XXXXX are 5 digits. The files are typically anywhere from 1-2MB in size but can be up to 100MB and thousands of them are created at a rate of about 5-10 per minute. Does anyone know how to disable these logs? Thanks!

  • Function Point Analysis -- a seriously overestimating technique?

    I know questions about FPA has been asked numerous times before, but this time I'm taking a more analytical angle at it, backed up with data. 1. First, some data This question is based on a tutorial. He had a "Sample Count" section where he demonstrated it step by step. You can see some screenshots of his sample application here. In the end, he calculated the unadjusted FP to be 99. There is another article on InformIT with industry data on typical hour/FP. It ranges from 2 hours/FP to 27.4 hours/FP. Let's try to stick with 2 for the moment (since SO readers are probably the more efficient crowd :p). 2. Reality check!? Now just check out the screenshots again. Do a little math here 99 * 2 = 198 hours 198 hours / 40 hours per week = 5 weeks Seriously? That sample application is going to take 5 weeks to implement? Is it just my feeling that it wouldn't take any decent programmer longer than one week (I"m not even saying weekend) to have it completed? Now let's try estimating the cost of the project. We'll use New York's minimum wage at the moment (Wikipedia), which is $7.25 198 * 7.25 = $1435.5 From what I could see from the screenshots, this application is a small excel-improvement app. I could have bought MS Office Pro for 200 bucks which gives me greater interoperability (.xls files) and flexibility (spreadsheets). (For the record, that same Web site has another article discussing productivity. It seems like they typically use 4.2 hours/FP, which gives us even more shocking stats: 99 * 4.2 = 415 hours = 10 weeks = almost 3 whopping months! 415 hours * $7.25 = $3000 zomg (That's even assuming that all our poor coders get the minimum wage!) 3. Am I missing something here? Right now, I could come up with several possible explanation: FPA is really only suited for bigger projects (1000+ FPs) so it becomes extremely inaccurate at smaller scale. The hours/FP metric fluctuates abruptly from team to team, project to project. For a small project like this, we could have used something like 0.5 hour/FP or something. (Now this kind of makes the whole estimation thing pointless, unless my firm does the same type of projects for several years with the same team, not really common.) From my experience with several software metrics, Function Point is really not a lightweight metric. If the hour/FP thing fluctuates so much, then what's the point, maybe I could have gone with User Story Points which is a lot faster to get and arguably almost as uncertain. What would be the FP experts' answers to this?
