• Cucumber-rails on jruby installs gem into my apps root directory with bundler

  Just installed cucumber 0.7.2 and cucumber-rails 0.3.1 with jruby-1.4.0 on OSX. When I run a bundle install, it places a cucumber-rails directory in my main app with all of the gem code/dependencies. First off, this is definitely not what I want and I'm not sure why this happens for cucumber-rails only. • Compiling gstreamer plugin in windows

  Hello all, My question: What is the correct way to compile a gstreamer plugin in windows, so that it will be accepted by gstreamer (actually Songbird on top of gstreamer). My setup: I have downloaded the songbird sources following the steps described here and I have a trunk/dependencies/windows-i686-msvc8 directory within my svn sources with all the gstreamer binaries. I have created a gstreamer empty plugin skeleton following the steps detailed in the GStreamer Plugin Writer's Guide, and compiled it against the gstreamer binaries in the Songbird dependencies folder. The compilation was done with VS2010 RC1 (Visual Studio 2008 yelded the same results), using an empty DLL project with the .h and .c files generated using the GStreamer Plugin Writer's Guide. The DLL was lined with libcpmt.lib, libcmt.lib, ws2_32.lib, gobject-2.0.lib, gthread-2.0.lib, gstreamer-0.10-0.lib, glib-2.0.lib, kernel32.lib, nspr4.lib and ignoring all default libraries. I have compiled the files as both .c and .cpp with the same results. Testing: I have installed the Songbird binaries corresponding to the correct svn version, then installed Songbird Developer Tools addon and used it to create an addon for testing my gstreamer plugin. Songbird will not load the pluggin. I have also tried to load it with gst-launch.exe from the trunk/dependencies/windows-i686-msvc8/[...] directory and that generated runtime error R6034: An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly. Most resources I found for this problem recommended restarting or reinstalling windows :(.

• Granite DS Actionscript Code Generation Ant cannot find class error

  I am trying to get my Ant build to run the granite DS Actionscript code generation task and am running into some problems. At the moment I am getting this error: BUILD FAILED C...\build.xml:62: Could not load Java class file: SampleDTOOne.class So the .class files are obviously being found. I am not however sure if this error means that the it cannot load the .class file or that it cannot find the actual java source code. My Ant task definition looks like this: <classpath> <pathelement location="C.../src/packages/" /> </classpath> <fileset dir="${base.build.dir}/jc/classes/gpbit/packageName"> <include name="*.class" /> </fileset> </gas3> I have tried many different values for the classpath but cannot get anythign to work. I do not like the path that I am using to find the .class files but again at the moment this is the only one I can get to work. None of the variables seem to make it any easier to get to this location. The fileset is definitely working as it definitely found the .clas files to include the name in the error message. • What Are Basic Tools For A New Project?

  For a long time, I thought that to start a new project we only need 3 basic tools. 1) A Build System (e.g. Maven & CruiseControl) 2) A Version Control System (e.g. CVS & SVN & GIT) 3) A Bug Tracking System (e.g. Bugzilla) Yesterday, a senior guy told me that we need at least one thing more. That is KPI(Key Performance Index). Without KPI, it is impossible to measure whether the project is progressing well or not. KPI is kind of SOFT tool compared to Maven/SVN/Bugzilla. I believe since I missed SOFT tools, there must be some other kind of tools I missed. So, anybody get some ideas what other basic tools necessary for a new project?

  Hello. I created several web applications that use the same static files (css, js, images). When I use svn for version control, I use an external repository (svn: externals) to add files to the current project. For example: - Project_1 ---- Webapp -------- Static (external to static's repo) - Project_2 ---- Webapp -------- Static (external to static's repo) I could easily use it in their web pages by adding a link like /static/ ... But now our company has moved to perforce. How can I support the current structure? We also use maven, I think to pack these files as a jar and use as a dependency, but then my editor (idea) does not see that this dependence are js-scripts and styles. And i need to repackage and deploy jar file when create minor changes. How to use maven correctly?

  I'm writing a software application in C#.Net that connects to a SQL Server database. My C# project is under SVN version control, but I'd like to include my database schema in the SVN repository as well. An answer to a previous question of mine suggested storing the scripts to generate the database in version control. Is there a way to automatically generate these scripts from an existing database? I'm very new to SQL Server, but I noticed in management studio that the SQL commands to create a table can be generated automatically by right clicking on the table and clicking "Script Table As". Is there an equivalent command that would work with the entire database?

• In Jenkins, how to checkout a project into a specific directory (using GIT)

  Sorry for the 'svn' style - we are in a process of migration from SVN to GIT (including our CI Jenkins environment). What do we need is to be able to make Jenkins to checkout (or should I say clone?) the GIT project (repository?) into a specific directory. We've tried some refspecs magic but it wasn't to obvious to understand and to use successfully. Furthermore, if in the same Jenkins project we need to checkout several private GitHub repositories into several separate dirs under a project root. How can we do it please? We have GitHub plugin installed. Hope we've phrased the things right.

  I cannot figure out why I get this error during check-in. I checked in successful only a few hours ago so not sure why now it's complaining Error: Commit failed (details follow): Error: Checksum mismatch for Error: 'C:\sss\sss\trunk\xxxx\.svn\text-base\Header.ascx.svn-base'; expected: Error: '3cee96f580409a1711a47541a07860dd', actual: 'a5fc0f8819b88bf32ab38d4c9a6b0654' Error: Try a 'Cleanup'. If that doesn't work you need to do a fresh checkout. I got latest and also performed a clean-up which said successful so not sure what else to do.

• Any reason why NGEN should hang and never complete for a particular assembly?

  I have a class library project for .NET 3.5 built with Visual Studio 2008. If I try to NGEN the core assembly in this solution file, NGEN never completes, or at least not in the time I've bothered to let it run (like overnight). Has anyone else experienced this? And if so, did you solve it? And if you did, how? What steps did you take? If this is a bug in NGEN, how do I post this to Microsoft? I have a connect account, but where do I post a bug-report for this particular product, instead of a .NET class (which I know where to go for.)   i am trying to do a deployment with capistrano to newly installed Ubuntu server i am deploying to directory /var/www, owned by root, so i need to set use_sudo to true while i execute commands with run "#{try_sudo} command" without problem, svn checkout doesn't work with sudo prefix i try set :deploy_via, :export and it throws Can't make directory '/var/www/pr_name/releases/20091217171253': Permission denied during checkout i imagine adding "try_sudo" prefix to "svn export" would help, but where can i edit the one it uses in deploy_via? -- if on other hand i don't use use_sudo, and set /var/www/ directory ownership to myuser, i still cannot deploy - some of my deployment commands set folders ownership to apache user www-data and then i get something like: changing ownership of `/var/www/pr_name/current/specificdirectory': Operation not permitted which, if i understand correctly, has to be done with sudo

• Hudson jobs won't call javac?

  Hi, I have just set up Hudson on my server. For some reason, my build will not call javac to compile my builds...? I have set the path to the JDK in the Manage Hudson area, and it seems to recognise it (doesn't give me a warning). Is there something else I'm supposed to do?   Is there a way that when a user types python setup.py install to install a Python package, setup.py can be made to set specific variables at the base of the pacakge? A common example would be to basically set mypackage.__revision__ to be the svn revision of the checkout if one is working from svn. Another example case would be if the user can choose a global option, so that the option mypackage.__option__ be set according to a flag passed to setup.py, e.g. python setup.py install --set-flag=10 Then when using the package, mypackage.__option__ would equal 10.

  I would like to try to build Google App Engine for Java from source. I have tried this: I don't know how to solve the javac Ant task. I am on Mac OS X 10.6.8. The reason why I am trying to to create a Java Project from the source is that when I try to debug/step-into the sources downloaded from SVN, something is wrong in Eclipse and it does not track execution at the right code line. It seems to be executing "comment lines"? So I don't get an accurate tracking of the code path. I think what I would ideally need is: 1) svn checkout command with matching REV number of latest SDK 2) wget command downloading matching jar

Then I specify a specific branch/tag by doing git checkout <tag name> or git checkout origin/REL<release number>. Sometimes I forget what branch or tag I'm on. In SVN I would do a svn info to figure out what branch/tag I'm using (I realize that git has distinct definitions for branch and tag but for my purposes they are the same). How do I determine what branch/tag I am on?

• Redmine & Git integration

  I am considering moving from svn and Trac to git and Redmine. I'm just wondering what everyone's experience is of this. How well does git integrate with Redmine? I'm pretty set on my decision to change from svn to git - our distributed work, and need to frequently branch and merge would make life considerably easier with git. But we would possibly need to split things into multiple projects for this. From what I have been reading, git and multiple projects don't integrate too smoothly with Trac. That aside, in my investigations into git, Redmine has also caught my attention, and some of the features look very useful. However, I haven't found as many user experiences of git and Redmine as what I'd like (possibly due to my lack of searching skills...) and so would like to hear your opinions and examples.

So I open my project using GNU Emacs 23.2.1.   I'm currently starting a project which is going to be developed on a few different computer and I'm keeping in sync with bzr. In the project I'm using a couple of 3rd party libraries, like SDL. In the past I've just pushed a copy of the compiled library to my version control, but that usually seems to massively inflate the size of the branch and generally seem like a bad idea. Is that the normal practice, just pushing the required libraries, or is there a better way of added libraries to distributed version control like bzr or git? (I know on svn you can use svn:external to do something similar to this)

  Hi I am working on a web based project in my free time. I have SVN set up on my machine (running XP). What I would like to do is have a copy of my repository copied to the htdocs folder (Dev machine) post-commit via a hook. That way I can test my changes in a browser. I know that I can write up a .bat file, but I'm not sure what the syntax would be. I can do a basic DOS Copy command, but I saw one example that provided a username and password to SVN at copy time. Do I need to do this? Can someone point me in the right direction as far a syntax for the .bat file? Or maybe even suggest a better method. Thanks

• Distributed version control for HUGE projects - is it feasible?

  We're pretty happy with SVN right now, but Joel's tutorial intrigued me. So I was wondering - would it be feasible in our situation too? The thing is - our SVN repository is HUGE. The software itself has a 15 years old legacy and has survived several different source control systems already. There are over 68,000 revisions (changesets), the source itself takes up over 100MB and I cant even begin to guess how many GB the whole repository consumes. The problem then is simple - a clone of the whole repository would probably take ages to make, and would consume far more space on the drive that is remotely sane. And since the very point of distributed version control is to have a as many repositories as needed, I'm starting to get doubts. How does Mercurial (or any other distributed version control) deal with this? Or are they unusable for such huge projects?
