• How to detect if all the device on my machine have proper drivers?

  I have just installed the Xubuntu 10.04. But the display seems to be latency. When I try to copy a big file from usb disk to hard disk, the CPU is 100% used. So I doubt that some device drivers are missing. I can use lspci to show the PCI devices on my machine, but how could I tell whether proper drivers have been installed or not? Many thanks.

• Need to remove borders from multiple images

  I have a few hundred family images and they were all sent to us with borders that I would like to remove. Thankfully the borders are all the same size of 20 pixels and they are all .jpg so this will probably make things easier but im looking for a way to "batch process" all of them quickly so I dont need to open photoshop for each image and do it individually.   Here is the following use case: wanting to ssh server1 in 3 scenarios: server1 is on current network, go for it server1 is not on current network and you need to use a gateway (gw1) to access it, not a big problem as you can use ~/.ssh/config to define tunnelling for this you are on a network that does not allow you to access the first gw1, so you'll use gw2 for that. Desired outcome: be able to use the same command and be able to connect to the server.

I'm particularly thinking of moving windows using Alt + Drag and drop (which can be changed to Win + drag and drop). My hardware: 2x Intel Xeon E5645 2,40 GHz / 32 GB of RAM / 2xSAS for pg_xlog (RAID1) + 3x2 SAS for rest (RAID10) + BBU and 512 MB of cache. It's gonna be used for one web project, with some big (relative term :P) tables (20mil+ of records). Server is dedicated to Posgtres service.   There isn't much room on server chassis and I'm wondering where a label with the servers name should go? Is there any other information in addition to the name that should go on the label? Does it make sense to label each hard drive in a server or is that not necessary? There certainly is overkill, when I worked at Big Blue labeling was a huge source of bureaucracy, even a projector needed to be labelled and have it's whereabouts routinely reported.

  How do one proceed if I want to have 3 Operating Systems: Windows 7, Ubuntu, Debian plus a swap partion, all in all 4 partitions? Lets say I have 2 disks, each 640 GB and make room - 300 GB for Windows 7, 160 GB Ubuntu, 160 GB Debian and the rest for swap 20 GB. Where do I make these partitions, do I first make one big raid array 1 in BIOS and then partition when Windows 7 is installed or do I already in BIOS make these 4 partitions?
