• MySQL, replacing &nbsp; with... nothing (delete those, please!)

  I'm trying to purge my WordPress content from "false" carriage return (CR). These are caused after a migration of my content, that now presents from time to time a &nbsp; code that makes the web rendering engine to "paint" a CR where I would like to be nothing. The paragraphs seem to have a double CR because of this, and look too far apart. I'd like to be able to make a MySQL query in order to get rid of that strings, but at the moment I haven't found the key. What I've tried is UPDATE wp_posts set post_content = replace (post_content,'&nbsp;',' '); But i get <p> </p> where before were the &nbsp; strings. This seems not the answer at all. Could it have to be with the ampersand, and in that case, should I use something like &amp;nbsp; or something similar?

• I think I have multiple postgresql servers installed, how do I identify and delete the 'extra' ones?

  I seem to have a few installations of postgresql on my machine somehow. I'm not sure if this is a mistake or, if Ubuntu for some odd reason duplicates direcotories and keeps them elsewhere. I have a postgresql directory in /etc one in /usr/lib and one in /opt I'm properly confused at this point. How do I go about deleting the extra ones.which ones are he extra one? I also need to make sure that my 'pg' gem in my rails env is pointing towards the correct posgresql db server. Any thoughts on my issue would be huge.

• If I split my harddrive, will a system restore delete it?

  I split my 1TB HD from C drive and called it A. I put some files there to back up. I have now come to a point where I need to run a system restore with the discs that came with my computer. If I do a system restore and wipe C drive clean, will I lose the part of the hard drive that I split or will it remain intact and my files uncorrupted? This is a partition I created with windows myself, and dragged files over to it. Thanks!

• How can I delete virtual networks from command line?

  I have Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 (without GUI) running at my colo for a week. I was connected via RDP and could use the menu interface and command line. I figured out how to connect Hyper-V Manager from my Win7 laptop (THANK YOU HVREMOTE!), and created and installed my VM. I created a virtual network that didn't work (no connectivity from my VM) so I created another using different settings, and now have lost access to the Hyper-V host. No ping, no RDP. Since I don't have console access, I cannot troubleshoot. I believe if I deleted the Virtual Networks I'd regain access, but I need a command line instruction for this, that the staff onsite could enter to accomplish this. I find no help anywhere obvious (MSDN, etc), the keywords are too general. Can anyone refer me to simple steps how to do this over command line or with the menu based interface on the console?

• Have you ever used kon-boot?

  Has anyone here ever used kon-boot? I guess it may work because of the few blog posts about it but I feel kinda concerned and am interested at hearing experiences from anyone who have used multiple times with no side effects. I am slightly worried for any direct memory altering it tries to do. I am also worried if this will do its job fine to hide the fact it puts in a low level trojan or if the author planned to do anything like that in a future release as it looks like closed source from the site. Also I don't intend to gain illegal access but I find these sort of things very useful for my box of live discs I take every where, just in case. • How do I make IE8 NOT delete temporary internet files?

  Every time I close Internet Explorer, all temporary files (including cookies) are deleted. IE has a setting for this (Tools Internet Options Advanced Security Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed) but the setting is turned off. I tried cycling it on and off again, with no luck. I can open the Temporary Internet Files folder and watch all the files vanish each time IE closes. How can I get the temporary files to stay where they belong?

• Millions of files in php's tmp error - how to delete?

  Hey. I've got a tmp-folder with 14 million php session files in my home directory. At least that's what I think it is, it's not like I could ls it or anything. How can I empty this folder? I've tried using find with the -exec rm {} \; commands but that didn't work. ls 'sess_0*' | xargs rm did neither. I'm currently running rm -rf tmp but after two hours the folder appears to be the same size. • Keyboard problem, my Insert key is mix with my Delete key. How to disable overwrite text mode?

  I have a problem, everytime i type a text, it is overwriting what i have typed. i assume that the mode is set to overwriting, I want to insert the text not overwrite it, but i can't disable it because my insert key is mix up with my delete key so everytime i enter insert to disable the overwrite mode, it just delete what i type. so how to disable this? it's getting very annoying.. i'm using centOS.. and it seems that my problem is only related to netbeans because when i type here, it is set to insert mode.. but in netbeans, it just overwrites the codes! help!

• Why does MOSS sometimes delete an existing user from a site?

  I'm experiencing an issue with a MOSS installation. I am using the Site Settings Permissions to add an Active Directory account as a valid user of a site. This entails validating that the user account name is correct via the 'Check Names' button, then giving them 'Contribute' permissions. Once this is done they appear as a user on the 'All People' page. This works fine and the user is able to access the site. At some point in the future (sometimes several days later) the user account is somehow removed as a valid user from the site. This site resides in a test environment so access is pretty well controlled; which has allowed us to rule out someone else going in and removing the user manually. This appears to be something that is being done by the system itself and we have no idea why. We can manually add the user back, but then it will eventually get removed again later. I have an admittedly limited understanding of SharePoint permissions, but I believe that SharePoint stores valid users in a SQL database and I would assume that when dealing with Active Directory accounts it would be storing the user name and probably the SID. It appears that for some reason this record is later getting deleted out of the database, as the users will suddenly disappear from the "All People" page and will start getting "Access Denied: You are not authorized..." messages when trying to access the site. Has anyone seen this behavior before?

• Is it safe to delete "Account Unknown" entries from Windows ACLs in a domain environment?

  It's not uncommon to see entries in Windows ACLs (NTFS files/folders, registry, AD objects, etc.) with the name "Account Unknown (SID)". Obviously these are because of old AD users or groups which at some point had permissions manually configured on the relevant object and have since been deleted. Does anyone know if it is safe to remove these "Account Unknown" ACEs? My gut feeling is that it should be just fine, but I'm wondering if anyone has any past experiences where doing this has caused trouble? Normally I just ignore these, but the company I'm working at now seems to have an abnormal number of these, most likely due to past admins' inexperience with AD/Windows and assigning permissions to user accounts rather than groups in all sorts of weird places. FWIW, our environment is not complex, a single domain forest, 4 DCs in 3 sites, with all network connectivity and replication healthy, so I'm certain that these "Account Unknown" entries are really old accounts, and not just because of some failure to resolve the SID to a human-readable name.

We want to make it so that this automatically deletes (or preferably MOVES to another folder on the same shared drive) all the files that haven't been accessed in the last two weeks. • Why am I getting 'undefined method' exceptions when executing 'run_list add', 'run_list remove' and 'rackspace server delete'?

  [Originally posted this to opscode forum, got no response] I’m testing out a free hosted chef-server account and multiple subcommands are failing with ‘Unexpected Errors’. Perhaps my version and the server version are incompatible? OS: Ubuntu 12.04LTS Local Chef: 10.12.0 (Installed through gem) Local Ruby: 1.8.7 Also, the workstation machine has been manually configured, but the client(s) I’ve been experimenting with are launched with the Rackspace plugin (using ‘knife rackspace server create…’) The problem commands seem to fail when talking to the host chef-server, however, before it ever tries to modify the client, so I don’t believe that’s where the problem exists. The virtual-servers that are launched by ‘knife rackspace server create’ are launched properly but then deleting them with knife fails. If I include a recipe in the run_list when I create the server, the recipe is properly added to the run_list. If I try to add it later or remove the one that there server was initialized with, those commands fail. • Does Windows Move command delete the file only on successful completion?

  This may be a stupid question, but I'm erring on the side of caution here. If I'm using Windows command line/batch files to Move a file from one server to another and we have a network failure, what will happen to the original file? I would assume it remains untouched until fully moved, and then deleted, but I need to be sure. My fear is that it deletes bytes as they are moved, which would be bad. If that isn't the case, is there a better way than Copying the file and Deleting after the copy completes? Thanks for your help. EDIT: I suppose super user would have been better. This is part of a job kicked off by code, so my first thought was to come here.

  I can't delete a certain folder in windows 7. It's not a system folder. It was created by an app. I get an error message "You need permission to perform this action. You require permission from Tony....". I am an admin and logged in as myself Tony. I have full ownership of the folder with full control permission. I rebooted the machine. I killed the app which created the folder. I am out of ideas. Why is Windows 7 not letting me delete the folder?

• Batch convert AppleWorks files into PDF within originating folder, delete original file?

  Probably AppleScript is the way to go with this - I have found scripts online that do this, but snag on oversize printable area and put files in the same folder - I need files to stay in the folder the source came from. If the script also deleted the original AppleWorks file, that would be even better, but not required.   I wanted to know if someone got access to my server by using a nonroot account, how much damage can he do? After i su someuser I used this command to find all files and folders that are writeable. find / -writable >> list.txt Here is the result. Its most /dev/something and /proc/something and these /var/lock /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock /var/tmp /var/lib/php5 Is my system secure? /var/tmp makes sense but i am unsure why this user has write access to those folders. Should i change them? stat /var/lib/php5 gives me 1733 which is odd. Why write access? why no read? is this some kind of weird use of a temp file?

• What happens when I delete the first of several AWS EBS snapshots?

  On http://aws.amazon.com/ebs/pricing/ it says: "EBS Snapshots [...] For the first snapshot of a volume, Amazon EBS saves a full copy of your data to Amazon S3. For each incremental snapshot, only the changed part of your Amazon EBS volume is saved." I intend to snapshot some of my instances daily and keep snapshots for 7 days after which the snapshots are destroyed. What happens when, eventually, I destroy the first snapshot? Will the subsequent snapshots be worthless given the first is no longer available?
