• Java-JDBC-MySQL Error

  I'm trying to get my java program to talk to a MySQL DB. So i did some reading and downloaded MySQL Connector/J. I've extracted it into my home directory ~. Here are the contents. user@hamster:~$ ls LoadDriver.class LoadDriver.java mysql-connector-java-5.1.18-bin.jar The contents of LoadDriver.java are user@hamster:~$ cat LoadDriver.java import java.sql.Connection; import java.sql.DriverManager; import java.sql.SQLException; // Notice, do not import com.mysql.jdbc.* // or you will have problems! public class LoadDriver { public static void main(String[] args) { try { // The newInstance() call is a work around for some // broken Java implementations Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance(); } catch (Exception ex) { System.out.println(ex); } } } The contents are the same from http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/connector-j-usagenotes-basic.html#connector-j-usagenotes-connect-drivermanager with the only change that the Exception is being printed to console in the catch block. • Oracle Solaris 11.1 Announced at Oracle OpenWorld

  One of the highlights for me at Oracle OpenWorld was our announcement of the next update version to Oracle Solaris 11, named Oracle Solaris 11.1. Since November 2011, we've done a lot of work not only to polish existing features and fix literally hundreds of bugs, but also add many new features that give yet more reasons for using Oracle Solaris as the deployment platform for Oracle workloads - particularly the Oracle database. Over the last few years since the Sun Microsystems acquisition, we've had our developers sitting in Redwood Shores with the Oracle database team figuring out how to best optimize that combination and provide a level of integration that no other vendor (or solution) can match. Oracle Solaris 11.1 is often the first release many customers will adopt due to perceived instability of '.0' releases. In reality, however, we've seen incredible adoption already and all our existing customers are loving the new technologies like Image Packaging System (IPS), Automated Installer and ZFS Boot Environments, consolidated network management and network virtualization, and of course the existing features that are so critical to creating private, hybrid or public cloud environments like the Oracle Solaris ZFS file system and Oracle Solaris Zones server virtualization. If you haven't already gotten on board, there's plenty chance to catch up. More importantly, Oracle Solaris 11.1 really provides a platform that is significantly easier to manage than any previous Solaris releases - to the extent that it should be relatively straightforward for any experienced Linux administrator to get up to speed (if they're struggling, we have ways to help). • Java crashes on lubuntu but not Ubuntu

  I have lubuntu and Ubuntu partitions on my drive. I've been having an interesting time with the new lubuntu partition. I've encountered strange things with the game Minecraft, Java and graphics drivers on the lubuntu partition. Firstly, I'll say that Minecraft runs fine at about 60fps on the Ubuntu partition with the latest drivers. (This is lower than it should be as it's a pretty decent graphics card [Radeon HD 5700].) When I first started lubuntu, I tried to see if I could get Minecraft running on Java. Java crashed when loading the main game graphics on both Sun and OpenJDK without proprietary drivers. Java also crashed on both Javas with proprietary drivers after the necessary restart. However, after disabling (with 'remove' button) the proprietary drivers with jockey-gtk in the session after the restart to install the drivers, Minecraft ran very well at ~120fps. This didn't continue after another restart, when it ran at 9fps. After failing thereafter on lubuntu to get it working at 15fps, I tried reinstalling lubuntu and installed the exact same driver (the latest one, not the one appearing on jockey) and Java versions as on Ubuntu. That is, now Ubuntu and lubuntu have the same graphics driver and Java version. Minecraft still crashes in the same way on lubuntu but works fine on Ubuntu. I would appreciate any explanation for any of these events. What differences between lubuntu and Ubuntu could cause this? Edit: After installing the 32bit driver version on lubuntu (seeing as lubuntu is 32bit), I have Java "working" for Minecraft. However, it is at <15fps again and it can't log in to servers as it takes too long.

• Vagrant: VirtualBox: Headless Ubuntu: How to set up bridged networking?

  I am trying to set up a Vagrant VirtualBox (v4.2.4) virtual machine with a Ubuntu "box" which I got from www.vagrantbox.es. I was able to use Vagrant to set it up as a headless box and start it, and then I was able to ssh locally into it (using 127.0.0.1:2222), connect the internet and sun a bunch of "sudo apt-get" commands to update it and install new software. I would like to be able to access this virtual machine on my network, so I need a bridged network adapter for the virtual box. When I went to the VirtualBox console for this device, and tried to set up bridged networking, it said that I needed the "guest additions". I tried to install them and I couldn't get the .iso file for the guest additions. I went elsewhere on the 'net and it seems that I had to run "sudo apt-get install virtualbox-guest-additions-iso" from the virtual machine in order to get bridged networking. I tried this, and it installed fine after a couple of reboots. I then tried to set up bridged networking again (VirtualBox console to Devices-Network Adaptors...) but it didn't work. What, or what else do I need to do to set up bridged networking in this virtual machine? I appreciate any help that I can get.

Untar the tar file tar -xzvf filename.tar.gz move a extracted directory of apache-Tomcat7 in current path sudo mv Directory_Name(Extracted eg.apache-Tomcat 7.0.32) /usr/local/Tomcat7 to set environment variable for Tomcat7 sudo nano /usr/local/Tomcat7/bin/setenv.sh then Nano editor will open ..   My system is Ubuntu 11.10 64bit and i have to run a 32bit version of eclipse to use the TI plugins for CCSv5 but it doesn't work. I tried to run eclipse in a 62bit java environment but it doesn't even start. Plug-in com.ti.ccstudio.project.ui was unable to load class com.ti.ccstudio.project.ui.internal.wizards.importexport.temp.ExternalProjectImportWizard. An error occurred while automatically activating bundle com.ti.ccstudio.project.ui (352). • Progress 4GL and DB to Oracle and cloud

  Getting from client/server based 4GLs and databases where the 4GL is tightly linked to the database to Oracle and the cloud is not easy. The least risky and expensive option (in the short term) is to use the Progress OpenEdge DataServer for Oracle: Progress OpenEdge DataServer This eliminates the need to have to migrate the Progress 4GL to Java/J2EE. The database can be migrated using SQLWays Ispirer: Ispirer SQLWays ProgressDB migrations tool The Progress 4GL can remain as is. In order to get the application on the cloud there are a few approaches: 1. VDI - Virtual Desktop is a way to put all of the users desktop in a centralized environment off the desktop. This is great in cases where it is just not one client/server application that the user needs access too. In many cases, users will utilize MS Access, MS Excel, Crystal Reports and other tools to get at the Progress DB and other centralized databases. Vmware's acquistion of Wanova shows how VDI is growing in usage. Citrix is the 800 pound gorilla in the VDI space with Citrix WinFrame (now called XenDesktop). Oracle offers a VDI solution that Oracle picked up when it acquired Sun. 2. Hypervisor Server Virtualization - Of course you can place applications written in client/server languages like Progress 4GL buy using server virtualization from Oracle, VMWare, Microsoft, Citrix and others. 3. Microsoft Remote Desktop Services (aka: Terminal Services Client) The entire idea is to eliminate all the client/server desktop devices and connections which require desktop software and database drivers. A solution to removing database drivers from the desktop is to use DataDirect SQLLink

• How to configure SoapUI with client certificate authentication

  SoapUI is one of the best free tools around to test web services. Some time ago I was trying to send a soap message towards a SSL web service that was set up for client certificate authentication. I pretty soon got stuck at the “javax.net.ssl.SSLException: HelloRequest followed by an unexpected handshake message” error, but after reading several posts on the internet I solved that issue. It’s not really that complicated after all, but since I could not find a decent place on the internet that explains this scenario in a proper way, here’s a list of steps that you need to do to make it work. Note: this following steps are based on a Windows environment   Step one: Export your certificate (the one that you want to use as the client certificate) using the export wizard with the private key and with all certificates in the certification path: Give it a password (anything you want): And export it as a PFX file to a location somewhere on disk: Step two: Install the newest version of SOAP UI (currently it is 3.6.1) Open the file C:\Program Files\eviware\soapUI-3.6.1\bin\ soapUI-3.6.1.vmoptions and add this line at the bottom: -Dsun.security.ssl.allowUnsafeRenegotiation=true This is needed because of a JAVA security feature in their newest frameworks (For further reading about this issue, read this: http://www.soapui.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4089 and this: http://java.sun.com/javase/javaseforbusiness/docs/TLSReadme.html).   Open SOAPUI and go to preferences>SSL Settings and configure your certificate in the keystore (use the same password as in step one): That should be it. Just create a new project and import the WSDL from the client authenticated SSL webservice: And now you should be able to send soap messages with client certificate authentication. The above steps worked for me, but please drop a note if it does not work for you.

• Difference between sh file.sh and file.sh

  I have two questions : What is the difference between executing sh filename.sh and filename.sh? How can I make both of them giving me the same output ? I'm asking this question as right now I'm facing a problem. I'm trying to run a Java + SWT application from terminal. When I do filename.sh, it gives me the desired output. But when I do sh filename.sh or bash filename.sh, it throws me an error : Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: MainForm/java Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: MainForm.java at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:202) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:190) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:306) at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Launcher.java:301) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:247) Could not find the main class: MainForm.java.
