  • Displaying unnecessary HTML when showing content from MySQL database.

    - by ThatMacLad
    My homepage pulls in content from my MySQL database to create a blog. I've got it so that it only displays an extract from the posts. For some reason it displays HTML tags as well rather than formatting it using the tags (See picture below). Any help is appreciated. Homepage: <html> <head> <title>Ultan Casey | Homepage</title> <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/style.css" type="text/css" /> </head> <body> <div class="wrapper"> <div id="upperbar"> <a href="#">Home</a> <a href="#">About Me</a> <a href="#">Contact Me</a> <a href="http://www.twitter.com/UltanKC">Twitter</a> <form id="search-form" action="/search" method="get"> <input type="text" id="textarea" size="33" name="q" value=""/> <input type="submit" id="submit" value="Search"/> </form> </div> <div id="banner"> <img src="images/banner.jpg"> </div> <div class="sidebar"></div> <div class="posts"> <?php mysql_connect ('localhost', 'root', 'root') ; mysql_select_db ('tmlblog'); $sql = "SELECT * FROM php_blog ORDER BY timestamp DESC LIMIT 5"; $result = mysql_query($sql) or print ("Can't select entries from table php_blog.<br />" . $sql . "<br />" . mysql_error()); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { $date = date("l F d Y", $row['timestamp']); $title = stripslashes($row['title']); $entry = stripslashes($row['entry']); $id = $row['id']; ?> <?php echo "<p id='title'><strong><a href=\"post.php?id=". $id .   • z-index not working in IE8 with the sortable jQuery plugin

    - by Ojtwist
    I'm working with the jQuery Sortable plugin to drag and drop images from one box to another box. This works fine in ff,chrome and safari but it fails in IE8. It seems that when you start dragging that the image is send to the back. I've tried to solve this by adding the z-index option to the sortable plugin, i've tried appending it to a node higher in the hierarchy (body). It appears that setting a z-index on every other item in the page would fix this, haven't tried it yet and i'm not planning on doing this because this would mess up alot. So the user can drag an image from 1 gallery to the next gallery screenshot of how it should work: http://img69.imageshack.us/i/draganddrop.jpg/ Some html: <!--SECOND ARROCRDION ITEM --> <a class="flickr_accordeon_header" id="flickr_second_header" href="javascript:;">__MSG__SEARCH_FOR_PHOTOS__</a> <div> <p class ="flickr_text" > __MSG__SEARCH_FOR_PHOTOS__</p> <form method="GET" action="javascript:;"> <p> <input type="text" value="__MSG__SEARCH__" id="flickr_key_input" class="flickr_changeColorNormal" /> <button class="s3d-button flickr_search" id="flickr_seach_button"> <span class="s3d-button-inner" >__MSG__SEARCH__</span> </button> <img src="/devwidgets/flickr/images/ajax-loader-gray.gif" alt="__MSG__LOADING_IMAGE__" id="flickr_loading_img" /> <a href="javascript:;" id="flickr_refresh_key_button"><img src="/dev/_images/recent_activity_icon.png" alt="refresh" title='refresh' /></a> </p> </form> <div id="flickr_input_error">__MSG__INPUT_ERROR__</div> <div id="flickr_input_same_error">__MSG__INPUT_SAME_ERROR__</div> **<div id="flickr_key_gallery" ><ul class="flickr_key_ul"><li></li></ul></div>** <div id="flickr_key_pagging" ></div> </div> </div> <!--SLIDING SIDEBAR --> <div id="flickr_sidebar" class="jcarousel-skin-tango"> <div id="flickr_side_paging"></div> **<ul> <li><img src="/devwidgets/flickr/images/drop-image.png" alt="__MSG__DROP_HERE__" class="flick_drop_here"></li> </ul>** </div> The images get rendered into the ul, so basically it's just an ul with li's with images javascript for sortable: horizontal: { helper: "clone", // Instead of dragging the real image a copy will be dragged connectWith: ["#flickr_sidebar ul"], // To be able to drag and drop an image to another image gallery they need to be connected cursor: 'pointer', //change the cursor when dragging opacity: 0.50, //Change the opacity while dragging appendTo: 'body', //When dropped the images need to be appended to the image gallery where they are dropped containment: 'body', //Make sure the user can't drag the images outside the widget revert: true, // if the user releases the image ouside the dropbox it'll return to it's original position zIndex: 9999 } I've tried it with setting the dragged image to absolute and the container on relative... doesn't work Anyone know how to solve this in IE8 ?

  • No route matches [GET] "/user/sign_out"

    - by user3399101
    So, I'm getting the below error when clicking on Sign Out on my drop down menu on the nav: No route matches [GET] "/user/sign_out" However, this only happens when using the sign out on the drop down nav (the hamburger menu for mobile devices) and not when clicking the sign out on the regular nav. See the code below: <div class="container demo-5"> <div class="main clearfix"> <div class="column"> <div id="dl-menu" class="dl-menuwrapper"> <button class="dl-trigger">Open Menu</button> <ul class="dl-menu dl-menu-toggle"> <div id="closebtn" onclick="closebtn()"></div> <% if user_signed_in? %> <li><%= link_to 'FAQ', faq_path %></li> <li><a href="#">Contact Us</a></li> <li><%= link_to 'My Account', account_path %></li> <li><%= link_to 'Sign Out', destroy_user_session_path, method: 'delete' %></li> <--- this is the line <% else %> <li><%= link_to 'FAQ', faq_path %></li> <li><a href="#">Contact Us</a></li> <li><%= link_to 'Sign In', new_user_session_path %></li> <li><%= link_to 'Free Trial', plans_path %></li> <% end %> </ul> </div><!-- /dl-menuwrapper --> </div> </div> </div><!-- /container --> </div> And this is the non-drop down code that works: <div class="signincontainer pull-right"> <div class="navbar-form navbar-right"> <% if user_signed_in? %> <%= link_to 'Sign out', destroy_user_session_path, class: 'btn signin-button', method: :delete %> <div class="btn signin-button usernamefont"><%= link_to current_user.full_name, account_path %></div> <% else %> ....rest of code here Updated error: ActionController::RoutingError (No route matches [GET] "/user/sign_out"): actionpack (4.0.4) lib/action_dispatch/middleware/debug_exceptions.rb:21:in `call' actionpack (4.0.4) lib/action_dispatch/middleware/show_exceptions.rb:30:in `call' railties (4.0.4) lib/rails/rack/logger.rb:38:in `call_app' railties (4.0.4) lib/rails/rack/logger.rb:20:in `block in call' activesupport (4.0.4) lib/active_support/tagged_logging.rb:68:in `block in tagged' activesupport (4.0.4) lib/active_support/tagged_logging.rb:26:in `tagged' activesupport (4.0.4) lib/active_support/tagged_logging.rb:68:in `tagged' railties (4.0.4) lib/rails/rack/logger.rb:20:in `call' quiet_assets (1.0.2) lib/quiet_assets.rb:18:in `call_with_quiet_assets' actionpack (4.0.4) lib/action_dispatch/middleware/request_id.rb:21:in `call' rack (1.5.2) lib/rack/methodoverride.rb:21:in `call' rack (1.5.2) lib/rack/ru

  • CSS - Can't get the z-index to apply correctly in Internet Explorer

    - by peaki
    I've written a jQuery script to replace <select /> elements with some DIV's and UL's allowing my to simulate the original SELECT but also allow me to style it. So far, aside from a few minor bugs, it works rather nicely. However, in Internet Explorer, the 'options' div is getting rendered underneath the elements below the div. Here's the HTML: <div class="styledSelect-parent" style="display: inline-block; width: 59px;"> <div class="styledSelect-newSelect" style="position: relative;"> <input class="styledSelect-newSelect-selector" style="width: 59px;" readonly="readonly" name="hello" value="Test1" type="text"> <div class="styledSelect-newSelect-options" style="display: none; z-index: 20; width: 59px; position: absolute; left: 0px; top: 18px;"> <ul> <li>Test1</li> <li>Test2</li> <li>Test3</li> <li class="styledSelect-active">Test4</li> <li>Test1</li> <li>Test2</li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> <br /><br /> <div class="styledSelect-parent" style="display: inline-block; width: 59px;"> <div class="styledSelect-newSelect" style="position: relative;"> <input class="styledSelect-newSelect-selector" style="width: 59px;" readonly="readonly" name="hello" value="Test1" type="text"> <div class="styledSelect-newSelect-options" style="display: none; z-index: 20; width: 59px; position: absolute; left: 0px; top: 18px;"> <ul> <li class="styledSelect-active">Test1</li> <li>Test2</li> <li>Test3</li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> If I open the first select, the LI list sits underneath the second select box rather than above it. I can't get the z-indexes to work properly. What am I missing? :/

  • How can I Display an extract from MySQL database entry?

    - by ThatMacLad
    I'm after creating a webpage that includes a blog section and it currently displays the whole post on the homepage. I'd like to set it so that it only displays a certain part of the entry i.e 50 words. I'd then like to be able to set it so that I have a read more button below the post that links to the post id. I currently use post.php?=# (# = whatever the post id is). Here is the homepage: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <meta charset="UTF-8"> <title>Blog Name</title> <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/style.css" type="text/css" /> <body> <div id="upper-bar"> <div id="bar-content"> <a href="#">Home</a> <a href="#">Archives</a> <a href="#">Contact</a> <a href="#">About</a> <a href="#"><img src="images/twitter.png" id="tweet"></a><a href="#"><img src="images/feed.png" id="feed"></a> </div> </div> <div id="clear"> </div> <div class="main"> <h1>Blog Name</h1> <div class="post-col"> <?php mysql_connect ('localhost', 'root', 'root') ; mysql_select_db ('tmlblog'); $sql = "SELECT * FROM php_blog ORDER BY timestamp DESC LIMIT 5"; $result = mysql_query($sql) or print ("Can't select entries from table php_blog.<br />" . $sql .   • Namespaced Backbone.js Views not firing events

    - by Stasio
    I'm currently getting started with Backbone.js. I've wrote some examples with Backbone and they are working fine. But now I need to use Backbone.js with Rails 3.1 and CoffeeScript. I took my well-working examples and rewrote on CoffeeScript using backbone-rails gem. And got the following problem. I've simplyfied code, but the problem is still remaining I've got the following files: Here I'm starting my Backbone app at main.js.coffee file according to my main_controller in rails app: $ = jQuery $-> CsfTaskManager.init() Here is backbone app description: #= require_self #= require_tree ./templates #= require_tree ./models #= require_tree ./views #= require_tree ./routers window.CsfTaskManager = Models: {} Collections: {} Routers: {} Views: {} init: -> new CsfTaskManager.Routers.AppRouter() Backbone.history.start() This is my apps' router: class CsfTaskManager.Routers.AppRouter extends Backbone.Router initialize: (options) -> goalsBlock = new CsfTaskManager.Views.goalsView() routes: "!/": "root", some other routes... And finally view: class CsfTaskManager.Views.goalsView extends Backbone.View initialize: -> this.goals = new CsfTaskManager.Collections.GoalsCollection() el: $('div#app'), events: "click .add-btn": "addGoal" addGoal: -> alert('ji') HTML page has such code: <div id="app"> <div class="app-screen hidden" id="goal-form" style="display: block; "> <button class="btn" id="load"> Load </button> <h3> New Goal </h3> <div class="form-stacked"> <form accept-charset="UTF-8" action="/goals" class="new_goal" id="new_goal" method="post"><div style="margin:0;padding:0;display:inline"><input name="utf8" type="hidden" value="?"><input name="authenticity_token" type="hidden" value="Pnt+V/tS1/b079M/1ZIRdw2ss1D6bvJKVh868DXRjUg="></div> <label for="goal_title">Title</label> <p></p> <input class="goal-title" id="goal_title" name="goal[title]" size="30" type="text"> <p></p> <label for="goal_note">Note</label> <p></p> <input class="goal-note" id="goal_note" name="goal[note]" size="30" type="text"> </form> </div> <p> <button class="add-btn btn"> Add </button> </p> <ul id="goals-list"></ul> </div> <table class="app-screen bordered-table" id="calendar-grid" style="display: none; "> <tbody><tr> <td colspan="2"> week </td> </tr> <tr> <td> day </td> <td> <div id="calendar"></div> </td> </tr> </tbody></table> <div class="app-screen hidden" id="role-form" style="display: none; "> <h3> New User Role </h3> <div class="form-stacked"> <form accept-charset="UTF-8" action="/roles" class="new_role" id="new_role" method="post"><div style="margin:0;padding:0;display:inline"><input name="utf8" type="hidden" value="?"><input name="authenticity_token" type="hidden" value="Pnt+V/tS1/b079M/1ZIRdw2ss1D6bvJKVh868DXRjUg="></div> <label for="role_title">Title</label> <p></p> <input class="role-title" id="role_name" name="role[name]" size="30" type="text"> <p></p> <label for="role_note">Note</label> <p></p> <input class="role-note" id="role_description" name="role[description]" size="30" type="text"> </form> </div> <p> <button class="add-btn btn"> Add </button> </p> </div> </div> So .add-btn element is nested in #app, but click on this button doesn't fire event. Where can be a trouble? Before, when I had the same app in one .js file, without of coffeescript, namespacing and backbone-rails gem, everything was allright. Bytheway, appRouter works fine, goalsView object is created successfully too, but events don't fire for some reasons. Please give me some hint, because I'm really got stuck...

  • jQuery inserting comment help

    - by StealthRT
    Hey all, i am trying to learn how to insert a comment within some html code without having to refresh the page. I know jQuery is capable of inserting a comment into a div area but i am having problems finding an example like that with fading in. Here is my comment code: <div id="CommentBox122" style="width:80%; padding:2px; margin-left:25px;"> <table width="650px" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="5" style="margin-left:20px; background-color: #F8F8F8; border-bottom:#CCC solid 1px;"><tr> <td width="10%" rowspan="2" align="center" class="Commentimage"><img src="img/avatar/gkrgimmkdhmggfh.jpg" height="60" /></td> <td width="90%" class="Commentposted">Posted by me on Saturday, May 01, 2010 @ 4:37: PM</td></tr> <tr><td class="Commentsaying">this is a test comment</td></tr> </table> <div id="stylized" class="myform" align="center"> <form id="CommentForm122" name="CommentForm122"> <div align="center" style="text-align:center; color:#F00; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight:bold;">Would you like to leave a comment, Robert?</div> <textarea name="txtComment" class="box" id="txtComment"></textarea> <input name="txtpostid" type="text" id="txtpostid" style="visibility:hidden; display:none; height:0px; width:0px;" value="Demo43639" /> <div class="buttons" align="center"> <button type="button" id="Button122" name="Button122" class="positive" onclick="doStuff();"><img name="Submit" src="img\buttonimgComment.png" alt="" />Post Comment</button> </div> </form> </div> </div> The code i need to insert again would be: <table width="650px" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="5" style="margin-left:20px; background-color: #F8F8F8; border-bottom:#CCC solid 1px;"><tr> <td width="10%" rowspan="2" align="center" class="Commentimage"><img src="img/avatar/gkrgimmkdhmggfh.jpg" height="60" /></td> <td width="90%" class="Commentposted">Posted by me on Saturday, May 01, 2010 @ 4:37: PM</td></tr> <tr><td class="Commentsaying">this is a test comment</td></tr> </table> But again, i am unable to find an example using jQuery to automatically insert that part of the code under the other "table /table" box.. So after its inserted by jQuery, the code should look like this: <div id="CommentBox122" style="width:80%; padding:2px; margin-left:25px;"> <table width="650px" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="5" style="margin-left:20px; background-color: #F8F8F8; border-bottom:#CCC solid 1px;"><tr> <td width="10%" rowspan="2" align="center" class="Commentimage"><img src="img/avatar/gkrgimmkdhmggfh.jpg" height="60" /></td> <td width="90%" class="Commentposted">Posted by me on Saturday, May 01, 2010 @ 4:37: PM</td></tr> <tr><td class="Commentsaying">this is a test comment</td></tr> </table> <table width="650px" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="5" style="margin-left:20px; background-color: #F8F8F8; border-bottom:#CCC solid 1px;"><tr> <td width="10%" rowspan="2" align="center" class="Commentimage"><img src="img/avatar/gkrgimmkdhmggfh.jpg" height="60" /></td> <td width="90%" class="Commentposted">Posted by me on Saturday, May 01, 2010 @ 4:37: PM</td></tr> <tr><td class="Commentsaying">this is a test comment</td></tr> </table> <div id="stylized" class="myform" align="center"> <form id="CommentForm122" name="CommentForm122"> <div align="center" style="text-align:center; color:#F00; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight:bold;">Would you like to leave a comment, Robert?</div> <textarea name="txtComment" class="box" id="txtComment"></textarea> <input name="txtpostid" type="text" id="txtpostid" style="visibility:hidden; display:none; height:0px; width:0px;" value="Demo43639" /> <div class="buttons" align="center"> <button type="button" id="Button122" name="Button122" class="positive" onclick="doStuff();"><img name="Submit" src="img\buttonimgComment.png" alt="" />Post Comment</button> </div> </form> </div> </div> As always, any help would be great! :o) David

  • Odd problem with IE8 and z-index CSS property

    - by DK39
    I not been able to put one DIV over his parent DIV in Internet Explorer. With Firefox is working as suposed to. The odd part is that if I open the html file directly in IE, everything works fine. But if I upload to the server and open from there, the div is hidden underneath his parent. I've tried several z-index combinations and none works. Here's the code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" > <head> <title>Test</title> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text-html; charset=utf-8" /> <style type="text/css"> .col { float:left; width:310px; margin-right:13px; } .art { position:relative; border-bottom: 1px solid #d0d0d0; font: normal normal bold 11px Arial,Verdana,Helvetica; color:#A0A0A0; width:310px; height:50px; top:0px; left: 0px; margin-right:10px; background-color:#F0F0F0; } .art a { padding:3px; display:block; width:304px; height:100%; color:#707070; } .art a:visited { color:#A0A0A0; } .art a:hover { background-color:#E0E0E0; } .box { z-index:1000; background-color:#A0A0A0; color:#404040; font: normal normal bold 11px Arial,Verdana,Helvetica; display:none; position:absolute; top:30px; left:10px; text-align:left; border:3px solid #707070; margin:5px 0px 5px 5px; font-size:10px; color:White; width:100%; } </style> <script type="text/javascript"> function sh(obj) { var el = document.getElementById(obj); if ( el.style.display != 'block' ) { el.style.display = 'block'; } else { el.style.display = 'none'; } } </script> </head> <body> <div class="col"> <div class="art"> <a href="" target="_blank" onmouseover="javascript:sh('i0')" onmouseout="javascript:sh('i0')">Title 1</a> <div id="i0" class="box"> <div class="text"> Les "chemises rouges" manifestent depuis la mi-mars pour faire tomber le gouvernement et occupent depuis trois semaines un quartier touristique et commerçant autour duquel ils ont érigé des barricades. </div> </div> </div> <div class="art"> <a href="" target="_blank" onmouseover="javascript:sh('i1')" onmouseout="javascript:sh('i1')">Title2</a> <div id="i1" class="box"> <div class="text"> Une association ardéchoise accueillant des séminaires de "bien-être" et de "développement personnel" a refusé d'accueillir un stage de danse en invoquant l'homosexualité des participants, ont indiqué aujourd'hui les organisateurs. </div> </div> </div> </div> </body> </html> What's is going on here?

  • Javascript Popup Windows

    - by sikas
    I have a popup window code that I have used before in login forms. The code displays an in-page popup. This is the code: <?php //In Page Popup Box with Faded Background by Jerry Low @crankberryblog.com //Find other useful scripts at the Crankberry Blog //SETTINGS $fade_amount = 60; //In Percentage $box_width = 400; $box_background = 'FFFFFF'; //Hex Color $box_border_width = 2; $box_border_color = '999999'; //Hex Color $close_box = 1; //Do You Want The Close Bar on Top 1 = Yes, 0 = No $extension = ""; // Other Variables that maybe needed, page number etc. //Begin Popup Box $left_margin = ( 0 - ($box_width*0.5) ); $page_url = basename($_SERVER['PHP_SELF']); if ($extension!="") $page_url .= '?' . $extension; if (isset($_GET['popup'])) { echo '<div class="popup" style="width:'.$box_width.'px; background: #'.$box_background.'; margin-left:'.$left_margin.'px;'; if ($box_border_width>1) echo ' border: '.$box_border_width.'px solid #'.$box_border_color.';'; echo '">'; //Close Box if ($close_box===1) echo '<div class="popup_close"><a href="'.$page_url.'">Close (x)</a></div>'; ?> <!–- START YOUR POPUP CONTENT HERE -–> Popup content goes in here! <!–- END OF YOUR POPUP CONTENT HERE -–> <?php echo '</div> <div class="fade" onclick="location.replace(\''.$page_url.'\');" style="opacity: 0.'.$fade_amount.'; -moz-opacity: 0.'.$fade_amount.';filter: alpha(opacity: '.$fade_amount.');"></div> <div class="fade_container">'; } ?> <a href="?popup=1<?php if ($extension!="") echo '&' . $extension; ?>">Activated Box</a> This code contains a link that reloads the page with parameters/arguments to show the popup. I want to update this code to make the popup appear/hide without This is what I have done so far, yet the popup doesn`t show. Now I want to update the code to work as follows. <link rel=StyleSheet href="css/popup.css" type="text/css" media=screen></link> <?php //In Page Popup Box with Faded Background by Jerry Low @crankberryblog.com //Find other useful scripts at the Crankberry Blog //SETTINGS $fade_amount = 60; //In Percentage $box_width = 400; $box_background = 'FFFFFF'; //Hex Color $box_border_width = 2; $box_border_color = '999999'; //Hex Color $close_box = 1; //Do You Want The Close Bar on Top 1 = Yes, 0 = No $extension = ""; // Other Variables that maybe needed, page number etc. //Begin Popup Box $left_margin = ( 0 - ($box_width*0.5) ); $page_url = basename($_SERVER['PHP_SELF']); if ($extension!="") $page_url .= '?' . $extension; { echo '<div id="pop_up" class="popup" style="visibility:hidden; width:'.$box_width.'px; background: #'.$box_background.'; margin-left:'.$left_margin.'px;'; if ($box_border_width>1) echo ' border: '.$box_border_width.'px solid #'.$box_border_color.';'; echo '">'; //Close Box if ($close_box===1) echo '<div class="popup_close"><a href="#" ChangeStatus()>Close (x)</a></div>'; ?> <!–- START YOUR POPUP CONTENT HERE -–> Popup content goes in here! <!–- END OF YOUR POPUP CONTENT HERE -–> <?php echo '</div> <div id="fade_div" class="fade" onclick="location.replace(\''.$page_url.'\');" style="visibility:hidden; opacity: 0.'.$fade_amount.'; -moz-opacity: 0.'.$fade_amount.';filter: alpha(opacity: '.$fade_amount.');"></div> <div class="fade_container">'; } ?> <a href="#" onClick="ChangeStatus()">Activated Box</a> <script> function ChangeStatus() { div = document.getElementById('fade_div').style.visibility; popup = document.getElementById('pop_up').style.visibility; alert(popup); if(popup == "hidden") { div = "visible"; popup = "visible"; } else { div = "hidden"; popup = "hidden"; } } </script> ignore the CSS files as it is working fine. I guess the problem is with the JS. Can anyone help me?

  • ASP.NET make a panel visible on click of hyperlink (whilst also cuasing postback for page navigation

    - by Helen
    I may be asking the impossible but let me set out my problem: I have a menu in a MasterPage which uses images and mouseover mouseout events for design purposes. On one of the menu options I need to display a set of sub menus options on the click of the parent menu item. The menu item itself also needs to navigate to a specified url. I was originally trying to use an AJAX accordion panel but as I only had one accordion panel it was always displaying the sub menu items and was not collapsing. I have also tried putting the options in a div and setting the display via javascript. This worked but then was overwritten once the page navigation postback occurred. Here is the source: <%@ Master Language="VB" CodeFile="MasterPage.master.vb" Inherits="MasterPage" %> <%@ Register Assembly="AjaxControlToolkit" Namespace="AjaxControlToolkit" TagPrefix="cc1" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <%@ Register Src="LeadHeader.ascx" TagName="LeadHeader" TagPrefix="uc1" %> <%@ Register Src="~/LeadFooter.ascx" TagName="LeadFooter" TagPrefix="uc2" %> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head runat="server"> <link href="StyleSheet.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <script type="text/javascript"> var revert = new Array(); var inames = new Array('home', 'whoweare', 'whatwedo','ourapproach', 'ourvalues', 'contact'); // Preload if (document.images) { var flipped = new Array(); for(i=0; i< inames.length; i++) { flipped[i] = new Image(); flipped[i].src = "images/"+inames[i]+"2.jpg"; } } function over(num) { if(document.images) { revert[num] = document.images[inames[num]].src; document.images[inames[num]].src = flipped[num].src; } } function out(num) { if(document.images) document.images[inames[num]].src = revert[num]; } function ShowHide(elementId) { var element = document.getElementById(elementId); if(element.style.display != "block") { element.style.display = "block"; } else { element.style.display = "none"; } } function UpdateText(element) { if(element.innerHTML.indexOf("Show") != -1) { element.innerHTML = "Hide Details"; } else { element.innerHTML = "Show Details"; } } </script> </head> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <div> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="ContentPlaceHolder2" runat="server"> <uc1:LeadHeader ID="LeadHeader" runat="server" /> </asp:ContentPlaceHolder> <div id="nav"> <div class="menu-item"> <a href="Default.aspx"> <img src="Images/home.jpg" alt="home" id="home" onmouseover="over(0)" onmouseout="out(0)" class="right" /></a> </div> <div class="menu-item"> <a href="AboutUs.aspx"> <img src="Images/whoweare.jpg" alt="who we are" id="whoweare" onmouseover="over(1)" onmouseout="out(1)" class="right" /></a> </div> <%-- <asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server"> </asp:ScriptManager> <cc1:Accordion ID="Accordion1" runat="server" AutoSize="None" FadeTransitions="true" TransitionDuration="350" FramesPerSecond="40" RequireOpenedPane="false" > <Panes> <cc1:AccordionPane runat="server"> <Header>--%> <div class="menu-item"> <a href="WhatWeDo.aspx"> <img src="Images/whatwedo.jpg" alt="what we do" id="whatwedo" onmouseover="over(2)" onmouseout="out(2)" class="right" onclick="ShowHide('divDetails');UpdateText(this);" /></a></div> <%--/Header> <Content>--%> <div id="divDetails" style="display:none;"> <a href="management.aspx" title="Management Development">Management Development</a><br /> <a href="leadership.aspx" title="Leadership Development">Leadership Development</a><br /> <a href="personal.aspx" title="Personal Development">Personal Development</a><br /> <a href="realteams.aspx" title="Team Building / Facilitation">Team Building & Facilitation</a><br /> <a href="coaching.aspx" title="Coaching">One to One Coaching</a> </div> <%-- </Content> </cc1:AccordionPane> </Panes> </cc1:Accordion> --%> <div class="menu-item"> <a href="OurApproach.aspx"> <img src="images/ourapproach.jpg" alt="our approach" id="ourapproach" onmouseover="over(3)" onmouseout="out(3)" /></a> </div> <div class="menu-item"> <a href="OurValues.aspx"> <img src="images/ourvalues.jpg" alt="our values" id="ourvalues" onmouseover="over(4)" onmouseout="out(4)" /></a> </div> <div class="menu-item"> <a href="ContactUs.aspx"> <img src="images/ContactUs.jpg" alt="contact us" id="contactus" onmouseover="over(5)" onmouseout="out(5)" /></a> </div> </div> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="ContentPlaceHolder1" runat="server"> </asp:ContentPlaceHolder> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="ContentPlaceHolder3" runat="server"> <uc2:LeadFooter ID="LeadFooter" runat="server" /> </asp:ContentPlaceHolder> </div> </form> </body> </html>

  • jQuery.closest(); traversing down the DOM not up

    - by Alex
    Afternoon peoples. I am having a bit of a nightmare traversing a DOM tree properly. I have the following markup <div class="node" id="first-wh"> <div class="content-heading has-tools"> <div class="tool-menu" style="position: relative"> <span class="menu-open stepper-down"></span> <ul class="tool-menu-tools" style="display:none;"> <li><img src="/resources/includes/images/layout/tools-menu/edit22.png" /> Edit <input type="hidden" class="variables" value="edit,hobbies,text,/theurl" /></li> <li>Menu 2</li> <li>Menu 3</li> </ul> </div> <h3>Employment History</h3></div> <div class="content-body editable disabled"> <h3 class="dates">1st January 2010 - 10th June 2010</h3> <h3>Company</h3> <h4>Some Company</h4> <h3>Job Title</h3> <h4>IT Manager</h4> <h3>Job Description</h3> <p class="desc">I headed up the IT department for all things concerning IT and infrastructure</p> <h3>Roles &amp; Responsibilities</h3> <p class="desc">It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).</p> </div> <div class="content-body edit-node edit-node-hide"> <input class="variables" type="hidden" value="id,function-id" /> <h3 class="element-title">Employment Dates</h3> <span class="label">From:</span> <input class="edit-mode date date-from" type="text" value="date" /> <span class="label">To:</span> <input class="edit-mode date date-to" type="text" value="date" /> <h3 class="element-title">Company</h3> <input class="edit-mode" type="text" value="The company I worked for" /> <h3 class="element-title">Job Title</h3> <input class="edit-mode" type="text" value="My job title" /> <h3 class="element-title">Job Description</h3> <textarea class="edit-mode" type="text">The Job Title</textarea> <h3 class="element-title">Roles &amp; Responsibilities</h3> <textarea class="edit-mode" type="text">It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. And I am trying to traverse from input.save at the bottom right the way up to div.node... This all works well with one copy of the markup but if I duplicate it (obvisouly changing the ID of the uppermost div.node and use jQuery.closest('div.node') for the upper of the div.node's it will return the element below it not the element above it (which is the right one). I've tried using parents() but that also has it's caveats. Is there some kind of contexyt that can be attached to closest to make it go up and not down? or is there a better way to do this. jQuery code below. $(".save").click(function(){ var element=$(this); var enodes=element.parents('.edit-node').find('input.variables'); var variables=enodes.val(); var onode=element.closest('div.node').find('.editable'); var enode=element.closest('div.node').find('.edit-node-hide'); var vnode=element.closest('div.node-actions').find('input.checkdisable'); var isvis=(vnode.is(":checked")) ? onode.removeClass('disabled') : onode.addClass('disabled'); onode.slideDown(200); enode.fadeOut(100); }); Thanks in advance. Alex P.S It seems that stackoverflow has done something weird to the markup! - I just triple checked it and it is fine but for some reason it's concate'd it below

  • $_GET['page'] loading content incorrectly

    - by s32ialx
    OK so here is my previous post PHP Templated Site w/ file_get_content links now i got that issue resolved BUT the problem is now that the content loads it displays UNDER the div i placed #CONTENT# inside so the styles are being ignored and it's posting #CONTENT# outside the divs at positions 0,0 any suggestions? Found out whats happening by using "View Source" seems that it's putting all of the #CONTENT#, content that's being loaded in front of the tag. Like this <doctype...> <div class="home"> blah blah </div> <head> <script src=""></script> </head> <body> <div class="header"></div> <div class="contents"> #CONTENT# < where content SHOULD load </div> <div class="footer"></div> </body> so anyone got a fix? OK so a better description I'll add relevant screen-shots Whats happening is /* file.class.php */ <?php $file = new file(); class file{ var $path = "templates/clean"; var $ext = "tpl"; function loadfile($filename){ return file_get_contents($this->path . • Using Handlebars.js issue

    - by Roland
    I'm having a small issue when I'm compiling a template with Handlebars.js . I have a JSON text file which contains an big array with objects : Source ; and I'm using XMLHTTPRequest to get it and then parse it so I can use it when compiling the template. So far the template has the following structure : <div class="product-listing-wrapper"> <div class="product-listing"> <div class="left-side-content"> <div class="thumb-wrapper"> <img src="{{ThumbnailUrl}}"> </div> <div class="google-maps-wrapper"> <div class="google-coordonates-wrapper"> <div class="google-coordonates"> <p>{{LatLon.Lat}}</p> <p>{{LatLon.Lon}}</p> </div> </div> <div class="google-maps-button"> <a class="google-maps" href="#" data-latitude="{{LatLon.Lat}}" data-longitude="{{LatLon.Lon}}">Google Maps</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="right-side-content"></div> </div> And the following block of code would be the way I'm handling the JS part : $(document).ready(function() { /* Default Javascript Options ~a javascript object which contains all the variables that will be passed to the cluster class */ var default_cluster_options = { animations : ['flash', 'bounce', 'shake', 'tada', 'swing', 'wobble', 'wiggle', 'pulse', 'flip', 'flipInX', 'flipOutX', 'flipInY', 'flipOutY', 'fadeIn', 'fadeInUp', 'fadeInDown', 'fadeInLeft', 'fadeInRight', 'fadeInUpBig', 'fadeInDownBig', 'fadeInLeftBig', 'fadeInRightBig', 'fadeOut', 'fadeOutUp', 'fadeOutDown', 'fadeOutLeft', 'fadeOutRight', 'fadeOutUpBig', 'fadeOutDownBig', 'fadeOutLeftBig', 'fadeOutRightBig', 'bounceIn', 'bounceInUp', 'bounceInDown', 'bounceInLeft', 'bounceInRight', 'bounceOut', 'bounceOutUp', 'bounceOutDown', 'bounceOutLeft', 'bounceOutRight', 'rotateIn', 'rotateInDownLeft', 'rotateInDownRight', 'rotateInUpLeft', 'rotateInUpRight', 'rotateOut', 'rotateOutDownLeft', 'rotateOutDownRight', 'rotateOutUpLeft', 'rotateOutUpRight', 'lightSpeedIn', 'lightSpeedOut', 'hinge', 'rollIn', 'rollOut'], json_data_url : 'data.json', template_data_url : 'template.php', base_maps_api_url : 'https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?sensor=false', cluser_wrapper_id : '#content-wrapper', maps_wrapper_class : '.google-maps', }; /* Cluster ~main class, handles all javascript operations */ var Cluster = function(environment, cluster_options) { var self = this; this.options = $.extend({}, default_cluster_options, cluster_options); this.environment = environment; this.animations = this.options.animations; this.json_data_url = this.options.json_data_url; this.template_data_url = this.options.template_data_url; this.base_maps_api_url = this.options.base_maps_api_url; this.cluser_wrapper_id = this.options.cluser_wrapper_id; this.maps_wrapper_class = this.options.maps_wrapper_class; this.test_environment_mode(this.environment); this.initiate_environment(); this.test_xmlhttprequest_availability(); this.initiate_gmaps_lib_load(self.base_maps_api_url); this.initiate_data_processing(); }; /* Test Environment Mode ~adds a modernizr test which looks wheater the cluster class is initiated in development or not */ Cluster.prototype.test_environment_mode = function(environment) { var self = this; return Modernizr.addTest('test_environment', function() { return (typeof environment !== 'undefined' && environment !== null && environment === "Development") ? true : false; }); }; /* Test XMLHTTPRequest Availability ~adds a modernizr test which looks wheater the xmlhttprequest class is available or not in the browser, exception makes IE */ Cluster.prototype.test_xmlhttprequest_availability = function() { return Modernizr.addTest('test_xmlhttprequest', function() { return (typeof window.XMLHttpRequest === 'undefined' || window.XMLHttpRequest === null) ? true : false; }); }; /* Initiate Environment ~depending on what the modernizr test returns it puts LESS in the development mode or not */ Cluster.prototype.initiate_environment = function() { return (Modernizr.test_environment) ? So what am I doing wrong that it makes the same number repeat ? Or what should I do to fix it ? I must notice that I've just started working with templates so I have little knowledge it.

  • How to set different width for INPUT and DIV elements with Scriptaculous Ajax.Autocompleter?

    - by Grzegorz Gierlik
    Hello, I am working on autocompleter box based on Scriptaculous Ajax.Autocompleter. Here how my HTML/JS code looks like: <input type="text" maxlength="255" class="input iSearchInput" name="isearch_value" id="isearch" value="<wl@txt>Search</wl@txt>" onfocus="this.select()"> <br> <div id='isearch_choices' class='iSearchChoices'></div> <script> function iSearchGetSelectedId(text, li) { console.log([text, li.innerHTML].join("\n")); document.location.href = li.getAttribute("url"); } document.observe('dom:loaded', function() { new Ajax.Autocompleter("isearch", "isearch_choices", "/url", { paramName: "phrase", minChars: 1, afterUpdateElement : iSearchGetSelectedId }); $("isearch_choices").setStyle({width: "320px"}); }); </script> and CSS classes: input.iSearchInput { width: 155px; height: 26px; margin-top: 7px; line-height: 20px; } div.iSearchChoices { position:absolute; background-color:white; border:1px solid #888; margin:0; padding:0; width: 320px; } It works in general, but I need to have list of choices wider then input box. My first try was to set various width with CSS classes (like above), but it didn't work -- list of choices became as wide as input box. According to Firebug width defined by my CSS class was overwritten by width set by element.style CSS class, which seems to be defined by Ajax.Autocompleter. My second try was to set width for list of choices after creating Ajax.Autocompleter $("isearch_choices").setStyle({width: "320px"}); but it didn't work too :(. No more ideas :(. How to set different width for list of choices for Scriptaculous Ajax.Autocompleter?

  • Why pseudo-elements :before and :after appear in front of my DIV element and not behind?

    - by Dim13i
    I have a DIV element with this given class: .slideshow { background: white; width: 700px; height: 300px; padding:10px; margin: 0 auto; position: relative; box-shadow: 0px 0px 5px grey, 0px 10px 20px rgba(0,0,0,.1) inset; } I define those two pseudo-elements (:before and :after): .slideshow:before, .slideshow:after { content: " "; background: green; width: 50%; height: 50%; position: absolute; z-index: -10; } My problem is that those two pseudo-elements appear in front of my DIV and not behind. Is there any specific reason for this behaviour? Here is an example: EXAMPLE The Javascript part is a bit messy but i'm still working on it. Also I've noticed that if I delete all the JS part I don't have anymore this problem, but I don't think there is anything in the code that should modify the slideshow DIV SOLVED: The problem is in the javascript part where I have: $('.slideshow').css('-webkit-transform', 'rotate(0deg)'); Removing this line solved the problem. I guess that pseudo-elements :before and :after are not compatible with the property transform.

  • jQuery how to set click on href in the div?

    - by faya
    Good day, I want to set click event on every anchor element in my div container. Here is an example what I want to do: ---HTML--- <div id="my-container"> <a href="page1.html">page1</a> <a href="page2.html">page2</a> <a href="page3.html">page3</a> </div> ---- jQuery ---- $("#my-container a").click(function() { var link = $(this).attr("href"); $("#my-container").load(link); }); What I want to do is to let me handle loading event of href clicks and load it to the same container. And this is must done without id, class attributes which aren't available for that hrefs. The problem is in this: $("#my-container a"). Any help would be appreciated! Thanks UPDATE People doesn't seem to get right what I wanted to ask. I repeat myself again. $("#my-container a") <---- doesn't add click events on href anchors. So how I can set click event?

Here is my code: <style> #leftPanel { width:60px; height:'100%'; border:1px solid red; background:yellow; } <style> <table> <tr> <td> <div id="leftPanel"> <asp:PlaceHolder runat="server" ID="TreeView" /> <%-- Here is a TreeView --%> </div> </td> </tr> <%-- other code --%> <table> $(function () { $('#leftPanel').resizable( { handles: 'e, w' }); }); I can't reduce the size of my div less then the size of my TreeView. What code need I write to allow leftPanel to be less than the size of TreeView ? It is necessary if TreeView node's text too long.

  • Using the West Wind Web Toolkit to set up AJAX and REST Services

    - by Rick Strahl
    I frequently get questions about which option to use for creating AJAX and REST backends for ASP.NET applications. There are many solutions out there to do this actually, but when I have a choice - not surprisingly - I fall back to my own tools in the West Wind West Wind Web Toolkit. I've talked a bunch about the 'in-the-box' solutions in the past so for a change in this post I'll talk about the tools that I use in my own and customer applications to handle AJAX and REST based access to service resources using the West Wind West Wind Web Toolkit. Let me preface this by saying that I like things to be easy. Yes flexible is very important as well but not at the expense of over-complexity. The goal I've had with my tools is make it drop dead easy, with good performance while providing the core features that I'm after, which are: Easy AJAX/JSON Callbacks Ability to return any kind of non JSON content (string, stream, byte[], images) Ability to work with both XML and JSON interchangeably for input/output Access endpoints via POST data, RPC JSON calls, GET QueryString values or Routing interface Easy to use generic JavaScript client to make RPC calls (same syntax, just what you need) Ability to create clean URLS with Routing Ability to use standard ASP.NET HTTP Stack for HTTP semantics It's all about options! In this post I'll demonstrate most of these features (except XML) in a few simple and short samples which you can download. So let's take a look and see how you can build an AJAX callback solution with the West Wind Web Toolkit. Installing the Toolkit Assemblies The easiest and leanest way of using the Toolkit in your Web project is to grab it via NuGet: West Wind Web and AJAX Utilities (Westwind.Web) and drop it into the project by right clicking in your Project and choosing Manage NuGet Packages from anywhere in the Project.   When done you end up with your project looking like this: What just happened? Nuget added two assemblies - Westwind.Web and Westwind.Utilities and the client ww.jquery.js library. It also added a couple of references into web.config: The default namespaces so they can be accessed in pages/views and a ScriptCompressionModule that the toolkit optionally uses to compress script resources served from within the assembly (namely ww.jquery.js and optionally jquery.js). Creating a new Service The West Wind Web Toolkit supports several ways of creating and accessing AJAX services, but for this post I'll stick to the lower level approach that works from any plain HTML page or of course MVC, WebForms, WebPages. There's also a WebForms specific control that makes this even easier but I'll leave that for another post. So, to create a new standalone AJAX/REST service we can create a new HttpHandler in the new project either as a pure class based handler or as a generic .ASHX handler. Both work equally well, but generic handlers don't require any web.config configuration so I'll use that here. In the root of the project add a Generic Handler. I'm going to call this one StockService.ashx. Once the handler has been created, edit the code and remove all of the handler body code. Then change the base class to CallbackHandler and add methods that have a [CallbackMethod] attribute. Here's the modified base handler implementation now looks like with an added HelloWorld method: using System; using Westwind.Web; namespace WestWindWebAjax { /// <summary> /// Handler implements CallbackHandler to provide REST/AJAX services /// </summary> public class SampleService : CallbackHandler { [CallbackMethod] public string HelloWorld(string name) { return "Hello " + name + ". Time is: " + DateTime.Now.ToString(); } } } Notice that the class inherits from CallbackHandler and that the HelloWorld service method is marked up with [CallbackMethod]. We're done here. Services Urlbased Syntax Once you compile, the 'service' is live can respond to requests. All CallbackHandlers support input in GET and POST formats, and can return results as JSON or XML. To check our fancy HelloWorld method we can now access the service like this: http://localhost/WestWindWebAjax/StockService.ashx?Method=HelloWorld&name=Rick which produces a default JSON response - in this case a string (wrapped in quotes as it's JSON): (note by default JSON will be downloaded by most browsers not displayed - various options are available to view JSON right in the browser) If I want to return the same data as XML I can tack on a &format=xml at the end of the querystring which produces: <string>Hello Rick. Time is: 11/1/2011 12:11:13 PM</string> Cleaner URLs with Routing Syntax If you want cleaner URLs for each operation you can also configure custom routes on a per URL basis similar to the way that WCF REST does. To do this you need to add a new RouteHandler to your application's startup code in global.asax.cs one for each CallbackHandler based service you create: protected void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { CallbackHandlerRouteHandler.RegisterRoutes<StockService>(RouteTable.Routes); } With this code in place you can now add RouteUrl properties to any of your service methods. For the HelloWorld method that doesn't make a ton of sense but here is what a routed clean URL might look like in definition: [CallbackMethod(RouteUrl="stocks/HelloWorld/{name}")] public string HelloWorld(string name) { return "Hello " + name + ". Time is: " + DateTime.Now.ToString(); } The same URL I previously used now becomes a bit shorter and more readable with: http://localhost/WestWindWebAjax/HelloWorld/Rick It's an easy way to create cleaner URLs and still get the same functionality. Calling the Service with $.getJSON() Since the result produced is JSON you can now easily consume this data using jQuery's getJSON method. First we need a couple of scripts - jquery.js and ww.jquery.js in the page: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <link href="Css/Westwind.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <script src="scripts/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="scripts/ww.jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> </head> <body> Next let's add a small HelloWorld example form (what else) that has a single textbox to type a name, a button and a div tag to receive the result: <fieldset> <legend>Hello World</legend> Please enter a name: <input type="text" name="txtHello" id="txtHello" value="" /> <input type="button" id="btnSayHello" value="Say Hello (POST)" /> <input type="button" id="btnSayHelloGet" value="Say Hello (GET)" /> <div id="divHelloMessage" class="errordisplay" style="display:none;width: 450px;" > </div> </fieldset> Then to call the HelloWorld method a little jQuery is used to hook the document startup and the button click followed by the $.getJSON call to retrieve the data from the server. <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $("#btnSayHelloGet").click(function () { $.getJSON("SampleService.ashx", { Method: "HelloWorld", name: $("#txtHello").val() }, function (result) { $("#divHelloMessage") .text(result) .fadeIn(1000); }); });</script> .getJSON() expects a full URL to the endpoint of our service, which is the ASHX file. We can either provide a full URL (SampleService.ashx?Method=HelloWorld&name=Rick) or we can just provide the base URL and an object that encodes the query string parameters for us using an object map that has a property that matches each parameter for the server method. We can also use the clean URL routing syntax, but using the object parameter encoding actually is safer as the parameters will get properly encoded by jQuery. The result returned is whatever the result on the server method is - in this case a string. The string is applied to the divHelloMessage element and we're done. Obviously this is a trivial example, but it demonstrates the basics of getting a JSON response back to the browser. AJAX Post Syntax - using ajaxCallMethod() The previous example allows you basic control over the data that you send to the server via querystring parameters. This works OK for simple values like short strings, numbers and boolean values, but doesn't really work if you need to pass something more complex like an object or an array back up to the server. To handle traditional RPC type messaging where the idea is to map server side functions and results to a client side invokation, POST operations can be used. The easiest way to use this functionality is to use ww.jquery.js and the ajaxCallMethod() function. ww.jquery wraps jQuery's AJAX functions and knows implicitly how to call a CallbackServer method with parameters and parse the result. Let's look at another simple example that posts a simple value but returns something more interesting. Let's start with the service method: [CallbackMethod(RouteUrl="stocks/{symbol}")] public StockQuote GetStockQuote(string symbol) { Response.Cache.SetExpires(DateTime.UtcNow.Add(new TimeSpan(0, 2, 0))); StockServer server = new StockServer(); var quote = server.GetStockQuote(symbol); if (quote == null) throw new ApplicationException("Invalid Symbol passed."); return quote; } This sample utilizes a small StockServer helper class (included in the sample) that downloads a stock quote from Yahoo's financial site via plain HTTP GET requests and formats it into a StockQuote object. Lets create a small HTML block that lets us query for the quote and display it: <fieldset> <legend>Single Stock Quote</legend> Please enter a stock symbol: <input type="text" name="txtSymbol" id="txtSymbol" value="msft" /> <input type="button" id="btnStockQuote" value="Get Quote" /> <div id="divStockDisplay" class="errordisplay" style="display:none; width: 450px;"> <div class="label-left">Company:</div> <div id="stockCompany"></div> <div class="label-left">Last Price:</div> <div id="stockLastPrice"></div> <div class="label-left">Quote Time:</div> <div id="stockQuoteTime"></div> </div> </fieldset> The final result looks something like this:   Let's hook up the button handler to fire the request and fill in the data as shown: $("#btnStockQuote").click(function () { ajaxCallMethod("SampleService.ashx", "GetStockQuote", [$("#txtSymbol").val()], function (quote) { $("#divStockDisplay").show().fadeIn(1000); $("#stockCompany").text(quote.Company + " (" + quote.Symbol + ")"); $("#stockLastPrice").text(quote.LastPrice); $("#stockQuoteTime").text(quote.LastQuoteTime.formatDate("MMM dd, HH:mm EST")); }, onPageError); }); So we point at SampleService.ashx and the GetStockQuote method, passing a single parameter of the input symbol value. Then there are two handlers for success and failure callbacks.  The success handler is the interesting part - it receives the stock quote as a result and assigns its values to various 'holes' in the stock display elements. The data that comes back over the wire is JSON and it looks like this: { "Symbol":"MSFT", "Company":"Microsoft Corpora", "OpenPrice":26.11, "LastPrice":26.01, "NetChange":0.02, "LastQuoteTime":"2011-11-03T02:00:00Z", "LastQuoteTimeString":"Nov. 11, 2011 4:20pm" } which is an object representation of the data. JavaScript can evaluate this JSON string back into an object easily and that's the reslut that gets passed to the success function. The quote data is then applied to existing page content by manually selecting items and applying them. There are other ways to do this more elegantly like using templates, but here we're only interested in seeing how the data is returned. The data in the object is typed - LastPrice is a number and QuoteTime is a date. Note about the date value: JavaScript doesn't have a date literal although the JSON embedded ISO string format used above  ("2011-11-03T02:00:00Z") is becoming fairly standard for JSON serializers. However, JSON parsers don't deserialize dates by default and return them by string. This is why the StockQuote actually returns a string value of LastQuoteTimeString for the same date. ajaxMethodCallback always converts dates properly into 'real' dates and the example above uses the real date value along with a .formatDate() data extension (also in ww.jquery.js) to display the raw date properly. Errors and Exceptions So what happens if your code fails? For example if I pass an invalid stock symbol to the GetStockQuote() method you notice that the code does this: if (quote == null) throw new ApplicationException("Invalid Symbol passed."); CallbackHandler automatically pushes the exception message back to the client so it's easy to pick up the error message. Regardless of what kind of error occurs: Server side, client side, protocol errors - any error will fire the failure handler with an error object parameter. The error is returned to the client via a JSON response in the error callback. In the previous examples I called onPageError which is a generic routine in ww.jquery that displays a status message on the bottom of the screen. But of course you can also take over the error handling yourself: $("#btnStockQuote").click(function () { ajaxCallMethod("SampleService.ashx", "GetStockQuote", [$("#txtSymbol").val()], function (quote) { $("#divStockDisplay").fadeIn(1000); $("#stockCompany").text(quote.Company + " (" + quote.Symbol + ")"); $("#stockLastPrice").text(quote.LastPrice); $("#stockQuoteTime").text(quote.LastQuoteTime.formatDate("MMM dd, hh:mmt")); }, function (error, xhr) { $("#divErrorDisplay").text(error.message).fadeIn(1000); }); }); The error object has a isCallbackError, message and  stackTrace properties, the latter of which is only populated when running in Debug mode, and this object is returned for all errors: Client side, transport and server side errors. Regardless of which type of error you get the same object passed (as well as the XHR instance optionally) which makes for a consistent error retrieval mechanism. Specifying HttpVerbs You can also specify HTTP Verbs that are allowed using the AllowedHttpVerbs option on the CallbackMethod attribute: [CallbackMethod(AllowedHttpVerbs=HttpVerbs.GET | HttpVerbs.POST)] public string HelloWorld(string name) { … } If you're building REST style API's this might be useful to force certain request semantics onto the client calling. For the above if call with a non-allowed HttpVerb the request returns a 405 error response along with a JSON (or XML) error object result. The default behavior is to allow all verbs access (HttpVerbs.All). Passing in object Parameters Up to now the parameters I passed were very simple. But what if you need to send something more complex like an object or an array? Let's look at another example now that passes an object from the client to the server. Keeping with the Stock theme here lets add a method called BuyOrder that lets us buy some shares for a stock. Consider the following service method that receives an StockBuyOrder object as a parameter: [CallbackMethod] public string BuyStock(StockBuyOrder buyOrder) { var server = new StockServer(); var quote = server.GetStockQuote(buyOrder.Symbol); if (quote == null) throw new ApplicationException("Invalid or missing stock symbol."); return string.Format("You're buying {0} shares of {1} ({2}) stock at {3} for a total of {4} on {5}.", buyOrder.Quantity, quote.Company, quote.Symbol, quote.LastPrice.ToString("c"), (quote.LastPrice * buyOrder.Quantity).ToString("c"), buyOrder.BuyOn.ToString("MMM d")); } public class StockBuyOrder { public string Symbol { get; set; } public int Quantity { get; set; } public DateTime BuyOn { get; set; } public StockBuyOrder() { BuyOn = DateTime.Now; } } This is a contrived do-nothing example that simply echoes back what was passed in, but it demonstrates how you can pass complex data to a callback method. On the client side we now have a very simple form that captures the three values on a form: <fieldset> <legend>Post a Stock Buy Order</legend> Enter a symbol: <input type="text" name="txtBuySymbol" id="txtBuySymbol" value="GLD" />&nbsp;&nbsp; Qty: <input type="text" name="txtBuyQty" id="txtBuyQty" value="10" style="width: 50px" />&nbsp;&nbsp; Buy on: <input type="text" name="txtBuyOn" id="txtBuyOn" value="<%= DateTime.Now.ToString("d") %>" style="width: 70px;" /> <input type="button" id="btnBuyStock" value="Buy Stock" /> <div id="divStockBuyMessage" class="errordisplay" style="display:none"></div> </fieldset> The completed form and demo then looks something like this:   The client side code that picks up the input values and assigns them to object properties and sends the AJAX request looks like this: $("#btnBuyStock").click(function () { // create an object map that matches StockBuyOrder signature var buyOrder = { Symbol: $("#txtBuySymbol").val(), Quantity: $("#txtBuyQty").val() * 1, // number Entered: new Date() } ajaxCallMethod("SampleService.ashx", "BuyStock", [buyOrder], function (result) { $("#divStockBuyMessage").text(result).fadeIn(1000); }, onPageError); }); The code creates an object and attaches the properties that match the server side object passed to the BuyStock method. Each property that you want to update needs to be included and the type must match (ie. string, number, date in this case). Any missing properties will not be set but also not cause any errors. Pass POST data instead of Objects In the last example I collected a bunch of values from form variables and stuffed them into object variables in JavaScript code. While that works, often times this isn't really helping - I end up converting my types on the client and then doing another conversion on the server. If lots of input controls are on a page and you just want to pick up the values on the server via plain POST variables - that can be done too - and it makes sense especially if you're creating and filling the client side object only to push data to the server. Let's add another method to the server that once again lets us buy a stock. But this time let's not accept a parameter but rather send POST data to the server. Here's the server method receiving POST data: [CallbackMethod] public string BuyStockPost() { StockBuyOrder buyOrder = new StockBuyOrder(); buyOrder.Symbol = Request.Form["txtBuySymbol"]; ; int qty; int.TryParse(Request.Form["txtBuyQuantity"], out qty); buyOrder.Quantity = qty; DateTime time; DateTime.TryParse(Request.Form["txtBuyBuyOn"], out time); buyOrder.BuyOn = time; // Or easier way yet //FormVariableBinder.Unbind(buyOrder,null,"txtBuy"); var server = new StockServer(); var quote = server.GetStockQuote(buyOrder.Symbol); if (quote == null) throw new ApplicationException("Invalid or missing stock symbol."); return string.Format("You're buying {0} shares of {1} ({2}) stock at {3} for a total of {4} on {5}.", buyOrder.Quantity, quote.Company, quote.Symbol, quote.LastPrice.ToString("c"), (quote.LastPrice * buyOrder.Quantity).ToString("c"), buyOrder.BuyOn.ToString("MMM d")); } Clearly we've made this server method take more code than it did with the object parameter. We've basically moved the parameter assignment logic from the client to the server. As a result the client code to call this method is now a bit shorter since there's no client side shuffling of values from the controls to an object. $("#btnBuyStockPost").click(function () { ajaxCallMethod("SampleService.ashx", "BuyStockPost", [], // Note: No parameters - function (result) { $("#divStockBuyMessage").text(result).fadeIn(1000); }, onPageError, // Force all page Form Variables to be posted { postbackMode: "Post" }); }); The client simply calls the BuyStockQuote method and pushes all the form variables from the page up to the server which parses them instead. The feature that makes this work is one of the options you can pass to the ajaxCallMethod() function: { postbackMode: "Post" }); which directs the function to include form variable POST data when making the service call. Other options include PostNoViewState (for WebForms to strip out WebForms crap vars), PostParametersOnly (default), None. If you pass parameters those are always posted to the server except when None is set. The above code can be simplified a bit by using the FormVariableBinder helper, which can unbind form variables directly into an object: FormVariableBinder.Unbind(buyOrder,null,"txtBuy"); which replaces the manual Request.Form[] reading code. It receives the object to unbind into, a string of properties to skip, and an optional prefix which is stripped off form variables to match property names. The component is similar to the MVC model binder but it's independent of MVC. Returning non-JSON Data CallbackHandler also supports returning non-JSON/XML data via special return types. You can return raw non-JSON encoded strings like this: [CallbackMethod(ReturnAsRawString=true,ContentType="text/plain")] public string HelloWorldNoJSON(string name) { return "Hello " + name + ". Time is: " + DateTime.Now.ToString(); } Calling this method results in just a plain string - no JSON encoding with quotes around the result. This can be useful if your server handling code needs to return a string or HTML result that doesn't fit well for a page or other UI component. Any string output can be returned. You can also return binary data. Stream, byte[] and Bitmap/Image results are automatically streamed back to the client. Notice that you should set the ContentType of the request either on the CallbackMethod attribute or using Response.ContentType. This ensures the Web Server knows how to display your binary response. Using a stream response makes it possible to return any of data. Streamed data can be pretty handy to return bitmap data from a method. The following is a method that returns a stock history graph for a particular stock over a provided number of years: [CallbackMethod(ContentType="image/png",RouteUrl="stocks/history/graph/{symbol}/{years}")] public Stream GetStockHistoryGraph(string symbol, int years = 2,int width = 500, int height=350) { if (width == 0) width = 500; if (height == 0) height = 350; StockServer server = new StockServer(); return server.GetStockHistoryGraph(symbol,"Stock History for " + symbol,width,height,years); } I can now hook this up into the JavaScript code when I get a stock quote. At the end of the process I can assign the URL to the service that returns the image into the src property and so force the image to display. Here's the changed code: $("#btnStockQuote").click(function () { var symbol = $("#txtSymbol").val(); ajaxCallMethod("SampleService.ashx", "GetStockQuote", [symbol], function (quote) { $("#divStockDisplay").fadeIn(1000); $("#stockCompany").text(quote.Company + " (" + quote.Symbol + ")"); $("#stockLastPrice").text(quote.LastPrice); $("#stockQuoteTime").text(quote.LastQuoteTime.formatDate("MMM dd, hh:mmt")); // display a stock chart $("#imgStockHistory").attr("src", "stocks/history/graph/" + symbol + "/2"); },onPageError); }); The resulting output then looks like this: The charting code uses the new ASP.NET 4.0 Chart components via code to display a bar chart of the 2 year stock data as part of the StockServer class which you can find in the sample download. The ability to return arbitrary data from a service is useful as you can see - in this case the chart is clearly associated with the service and it's nice that the graph generation can happen off a handler rather than through a page. Images are common resources, but output can also be PDF reports, zip files for downloads etc. which is becoming increasingly more common to be returned from REST endpoints and other applications. Why reinvent? Obviously the examples I've shown here are pretty basic in terms of functionality. But I hope they demonstrate the core features of AJAX callbacks that you need to work through in most applications which is simple: return data, send back data and potentially retrieve data in various formats. While there are other solutions when it comes down to making AJAX callbacks and servicing REST like requests, I like the flexibility my home grown solution provides. Simply put it's still the easiest solution that I've found that addresses my common use cases: AJAX JSON RPC style callbacks Url based access XML and JSON Output from single method endpoint XML and JSON POST support, querystring input, routing parameter mapping UrlEncoded POST data support on callbacks Ability to return stream/raw string data Essentially ability to return ANYTHING from Service and pass anything All these features are available in various solutions but not together in one place. I've been using this code base for over 4 years now in a number of projects both for myself and commercial work and it's served me extremely well. Besides the AJAX functionality CallbackHandler provides, it's also an easy way to create any kind of output endpoint I need to create. Need to create a few simple routines that spit back some data, but don't want to create a Page or View or full blown handler for it? Create a CallbackHandler and add a method or multiple methods and you have your generic endpoints.  It's a quick and easy way to add small code pieces that are pretty efficient as they're running through a pretty small handler implementation. I can have this up and running in a couple of minutes literally without any setup and returning just about any kind of data. • DualLayout for SharePoint 2010 WCM Quick Start

    - by svdoever
    DualLayout for SharePoint 2010 WCM is a solution to provide you with complete HTML freedom in your SharePoint Server 2010 publishing pages. In this post I provide a quick start guide to get you up and running quickly so you can try it out for yourself. This quick start creates a simple HTML5 site with a page to show-case the basics and the power of DualLayout. We will create the site in its own web application. Normally there are many things you have to do to create a clean start point for your SharePoint 2010 WCM site. All those steps will be provided in later posts. For now we want to give you the minimal set of steps to take to get DualLayout working on your machine. Create an authenticated web application with hostheader cms.html5demo.local on port 80 for the cms side of the site. Click the Create Site Collection link on the Application Created dialog box and create a Site Collection based on the Publishing Portal site template. Before we can click the site link in the Top-Level Site Successfully Created dialog we need to add the new host header cms.html5demo.local to the hosts file. Add the following line to the hosts file: 127.0.0.1        cms.html5demo.local Navigate to the site at http://cms.html5demo.local to see the out-of-the-box example Adventure Works publishing site. Download and add the DualLayout solution package designfactory.duallayout.sps2010.trial.1.2.0.0.wsp to the farm’s solution store: On the Start menu, click All Programs. Click Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Products. Click SharePoint 2010 Management Shell. At the Windows PowerShell command prompt, type the following command:Add-SPSolution -LiteralPath designfactory.duallayout.sps2010.trial.1.2.0.0.wsp In SharePoint 2010 Central Administration deploy the solution to the web application http://cms.html5demo.local. Navigate to the site at http://cms.html5demo.local, and in the Site Settings screen select Site Collection Administration > Site collection features and activate the following feature: Open the site http://cms.html5demo.local in SharePoint Designer 2010. Create a view-mode masterpage html5simple.master with the following code: html5simple.master <%@ Master language="C#" %> <%@ Register Tagprefix="SharePointWebControls" Namespace="Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls" Assembly="Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" %> <%@ Register TagPrefix="sdl" Namespace="DesignFactory.DualLayout" Assembly="DesignFactory.DualLayout, Version=1.2.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=077f92bbf864a536" %>   <!DOCTYPE html> <html class="no-js">       <head>         <meta charset="utf-8" />         <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=Edge" />         <title><SharePointWebControls:FieldValue FieldName="Title" runat="server"/></title>           <script type="text/javascript">             document.createElement('header');             document.createElement('nav');             document.createElement('article');             document.createElement('hgroup');             document.createElement('aside');             document.createElement('section');             document.createElement('footer');             document.createElement('figure');             document.createElement('time');         </script>           <asp:ContentPlaceHolder id="PlaceHolderAdditionalPageHead" runat="server"/>     </head>          <body>                  <header>             <div class="logo">Logo</div>             <h1>SiteTitle</h1>             <nav>                 <a href="#">SiteMenu 1</a>                 <a href="#">SiteMenu 2</a>                 <a href="#">SiteMenu 3</a>                 <a href="#">SiteMenu 4</a>                 <a href="#">SiteMenu 5</a>                 <sdl:SwitchToWcmModeLinkButton runat="server" Text="…"/>             </nav>             <div class="tagline">Tagline</div>             <form>                 <label>Zoek</label>                 <input type="text" placeholder="Voer een zoekterm in...">                 <button>Zoek</button>                             </form>           </header>                  <div class="content">             <div class="pageContent">                 <asp:ContentPlaceHolder id="PlaceHolderMain" runat="server" />             </div>         </div>              <footer>             <nav>                 <ul>                     <li><a href="#">FooterMenu 1</a></li>                     <li><a href="#">FooterMenu 2</a></li>                     <li><a href="#">FooterMenu 3</a></li>                     <li><a href="#">FooterMenu 4</a></li>                     <li><a href="#">FooterMenu 5</a></li>                 </ul>             </nav>             <small>Copyright &copy; 2011 Macaw</small>         </footer>     </body> </html> Note that if no specific WCM-mode master page is specified (html5simple-wcm.master), the default v4.master master page will be used in WCM-mode. Create a WCM-mode page layout html5simplePage-wcm.aspx with the following code: html5simplePage-wcm.aspx <%@ Page language="C#"     Inherits="DesignFactory.DualLayout.WcmModeLayoutPage, DesignFactory.DualLayout, Version=1.2.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=077f92bbf864a536" %> <%@ Register Tagprefix="SharePointWebControls"              Namespace="Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls"              Assembly="Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" %> <%@ Register Tagprefix="WebPartPages"              Namespace="Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages"              Assembly="Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" %> <%@ Register Tagprefix="PublishingWebControls"              Namespace="Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.WebControls"              Assembly="Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" %> <%@ Register Tagprefix="PublishingNavigation" Namespace="Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Navigation"              Assembly="Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" %> <asp:Content ContentPlaceholderID="PlaceHolderPageTitle" runat="server">     <SharePointWebControls:FieldValue id="PageTitle" FieldName="Title" runat="server"/> </asp:Content> <asp:Content ContentPlaceholderID="PlaceHolderMain" runat="server"> </asp:Content> Notice the Inherits at line two. • Metro: Introduction to the WinJS ListView Control

    - by Stephen.Walther
    The goal of this blog entry is to provide a quick introduction to the ListView control – just the bare minimum that you need to know to start using the control. When building Metro style applications using JavaScript, the ListView control is the primary control that you use for displaying lists of items. For example, if you are building a product catalog app, then you can use the ListView control to display the list of products. The ListView control supports several advanced features that I plan to discuss in future blog entries. For example, you can group the items in a ListView, you can create master/details views with a ListView, and you can efficiently work with large sets of items with a ListView. In this blog entry, we’ll keep things simple and focus on displaying a list of products. There are three things that you need to do in order to display a list of items with a ListView: Create a data source Create an Item Template Declare the ListView Creating the ListView Data Source The first step is to create (or retrieve) the data that you want to display with the ListView. In most scenarios, you will want to bind a ListView to a WinJS.Binding.List object. The nice thing about the WinJS.Binding.List object is that it enables you to take a standard JavaScript array and convert the array into something that can be bound to the ListView. It doesn’t matter where the JavaScript array comes from. It could be a static array that you declare or you could retrieve the array as the result of an Ajax call to a remote server. The following JavaScript file – named products.js – contains a list of products which can be bound to a ListView. (function () { "use strict"; var products = new WinJS.Binding.List([ { name: "Milk", price: 2.44 }, { name: "Oranges", price: 1.99 }, { name: "Wine", price: 8.55 }, { name: "Apples", price: 2.44 }, { name: "Steak", price: 1.99 }, { name: "Eggs", price: 2.44 }, { name: "Mushrooms", price: 1.99 }, { name: "Yogurt", price: 2.44 }, { name: "Soup", price: 1.99 }, { name: "Cereal", price: 2.44 }, { name: "Pepsi", price: 1.99 } ]); WinJS.Namespace.define("ListViewDemos", { products: products }); })(); The products variable represents a WinJS.Binding.List object. This object is initialized with a plain-old JavaScript array which represents an array of products. To avoid polluting the global namespace, the code above uses the module pattern and exposes the products using a namespace. The list of products is exposed to the world as ListViewDemos.products. To learn more about the module pattern and namespaces in WinJS, see my earlier blog entry: http://stephenwalther.com/blog/archive/2012/02/22/metro-namespaces-and-modules.aspx Creating the ListView Item Template The ListView control does not know how to render anything. It doesn’t know how you want each list item to appear. To get the ListView control to render something useful, you must create an Item Template. Here’s what our template for rendering an individual product looks like: <div id="productTemplate" data-win-control="WinJS.Binding.Template"> <div class="product"> <span data-win-bind="innerText:name"></span> <span data-win-bind="innerText:price"></span> </div> </div> This template displays the product name and price from the data source. Normally, you will declare your template in the same file as you declare the ListView control. In our case, both the template and ListView are declared in the default.html file. To learn more about templates, see my earlier blog entry: http://stephenwalther.com/blog/archive/2012/02/27/metro-using-templates.aspx Declaring the ListView The final step is to declare the ListView control in a page. Here’s the markup for declaring a ListView: <div data-win-control="WinJS.UI.ListView" data-win-options="{ itemDataSource:ListViewDemos.products.dataSource, itemTemplate:select('#productTemplate') }"> </div> You declare a ListView by adding the data-win-control to an HTML DIV tag. The data-win-options attribute is used to set two properties of the ListView. The ListView is associated with its data source with the itemDataSource property. Notice that the data source is ListViewDemos.products.dataSource and not just ListViewDemos.products. You need to associate the ListView with the dataSoure property. The ListView is associated with its item template with the help of the itemTemplate property. The ID of the item template — #productTemplate – is used to select the template from the page. Here’s what the complete version of the default.html page looks like: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <meta charset="utf-8"> <title>ListViewDemos</title> <!-- WinJS references --> <link href="//Microsoft.WinJS.0.6/css/ui-dark.css" rel="stylesheet"> <script src="//Microsoft.WinJS.0.6/js/base.js"></script> <script src="//Microsoft.WinJS.0.6/js/ui.js"></script> <!-- ListViewDemos references --> <link href="/css/default.css" rel="stylesheet"> <script src="/js/default.js"></script> <script src="/js/products.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <style type="text/css"> .product { width: 200px; height: 100px; border: white solid 1px; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="productTemplate" data-win-control="WinJS.Binding.Template"> <div class="product"> <span data-win-bind="innerText:name"></span> <span data-win-bind="innerText:price"></span> </div> </div> <div data-win-control="WinJS.UI.ListView" data-win-options="{ itemDataSource:ListViewDemos.products.dataSource, itemTemplate:select('#productTemplate') }"> </div> </body> </html> Notice that the page above includes a reference to the products.js file: <script src=”/js/products.js” type=”text/javascript”></script> The page above also contains a Template control which contains the ListView item template. Finally, the page includes the declaration of the ListView control. Summary The goal of this blog entry was to describe the minimal set of steps which you must complete to use the WinJS ListView control to display a simple list of items. You learned how to create a data source, declare an item template, and declare a ListView control.
