    Hi, sometimes I feel my server not responding as smoothly as I would expect (i have a Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 2.80GHz Quad Core), given that for example, the 'top' commands reports a low load < 0.5, CPU are almost completely idle ... I maybe have internet connectivity issues, so I don't really know if it's me or if it's the server itself. Is there anykind of benchmarking script (or something analogous) I could run and see the actual performance of the server ?

    Hi so i am trying to install the commands wget and with-readline for use with Mac OS X's terminal. The configuration seems to work fine for both even though i am required to specify for the first one, host= i686-apple. When i get to the make part of the installation, the output is as follows.     I've recently converted to using zsh instead of bash in OSX and was wondering if it is possible to do the following: When I launch my terminal I would like to start various tabs and have each tab run a different process e.g tailing logs, running ruby scripts etc. Currently I need to cmd+n multiple tabs and then manually start each process. While this doesn't take long I would like to be able to just launch my terminal and have these various tabs start and run those commands automatically. Is this possible?

  • Ubuntu server 10.04 doesn't boot into installed Gnome desktop automatically

    I've installed Ubuntu server 10.04 and then installed Gnome desktop on top of it, because I am new to Linux and its command line, I need the GUI desktop to help me get around. However, the problem I got is that the server doesn't boot into the GUI desktop when powered on. It's booting into a shell like this: Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems: - Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline) - Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enought?) - check root= (did the system wait for the right device?) - Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev) ALERT! /dev/mapper/cecdata-root does not exist. Dropping to a shell! BusyBox v1.13.3 (Ubuntu 1:1.13.3-1ubuntu11) built-in shell (ash) Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands. (initramfs) result of (cat /proc/cmdline) BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-2.6.32-28-server root=/dev/mapper/cecdata-root ro quiet Then I have type "exit" to exit the shell and then it boots into Gnome.     Hi! Recently I have deployed some HP server with SSD's behind a SmartArray P410 controller. While not official supported from HP the server work well sofar. Now I like to get wear level info's, error statistics etc from the drive. While the SA P410 supports a passthru of the SMART Command to a single drive in the array the output I was not able to the the interesting things from the drive.     I have a linux hard drive with three areas: /dev/hda1 - ext3 boot partition (20 MB) /dev/hda2 - lvm2 main partition (6 GB) unpartitioned space - 12 GB I would like to merge the unpartitioned space into the lvm2 partition known as /dev/hda2. I tried using GParted, but it does not support lvm2. What commands or utilities could I use to add the unpartitioned space to hda2 without losing my existing data?

    Is there a way to add a new App Path (for adding commands to Start-Run) without needing Admin? With admin, you can add an App Path to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths. I tried adding one under HKCU with no effect. I've added a new (user-writable) location to my user's PATH environment variable which lets me launch things from Start-Run, but the nerd in me still wants to know about the App Paths.

  • Cannot delete audit logs with sudo

    I am using auditctl to log all commands run on my Ubuntu system and I working on a script that parses the log into a more readable format. Since these logs tend to become very large, I want to periodically delete the logs. I found that by running sudo rm /var/log/audit/* I would get rm: cannot remove `/var/log/audit/*': No such file or directory however by running sudo su rm /var/log/audit/* The logs would be deleted without any problem. What could be the cause of this?

    I've got a SHELL script which is using a pipe to separate my 2 commands: ssh -oBatchMode=yes user@hostname "mysql -u yop -pyop -c yop | echo test" The problem is even if my connection to mysql doesn't work, it send the echo test. I would like to forbid my script to send any command if the previous command doesn't work. I search with a if condition but it seems it not possible with it :( Does anyone have an idea ?
