• Backup Exec backup-to-disk folder creation - Access denied

  I'm having a difficult time creating a backup-to-disk folder in Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 and Backup Exec 2010. The backend storage is a Nexenta/ZFS-based NAS filer sharing the volume via CIFS. I've also seen the issue on other *nix-based NAS devices. I've attempted mapping the drive, providing the full paths to the folder, etc. I can browse to the share just fine from within Windows, but Backup Exec fails to create the B2D folder with different variants of a Unable to create new backup folder. Access denied error. I've attempted creating service accounts in Backup Exec to handle the authentication, but nothing seems to work. What's the key to making this work?

• Configuring port forwarding on Fortigate 50B

  I can't for the life of me get port forwarding to work on my Fortigate 50B. I followed the setup tips described on this other SF thread with no success. The only specific difference I can find is we are using load balancing through 2 different internet uplinks. Is there any caveat specific to this scenario that I might be missing? If you need any specific additional information please ask because I think I have checked everything: Virtual IP mapping on external interface wan1 ACCEPT all from any on wan1 to the corresponding server on internal No seeming offending firewall rules (any specific pitfalls that I might want to check for?)

• Sabnzbd Installed on Linux NAS

  I installed SABnzbd on a linux formatted NAS. Now the directory it downloads to is mapped differently on the NAS itself, because the path that SABnzbd knows about starts in it's own folder. If this sounds confusing let me give you an example: \\MYNAS\Volume_1\ That is the path of the drive on the NAS. I would like my SABnzbd downloads to go to: \\MYNAS\Volume_1\Downloads Right now SABnzbd is installed to: \\MYNAS\Volume_1\ffp\opt\optware\share\SABnzbd And the default download directory (as indicated in SABnzbd is): /ffp/opt/optware/share/SABnzbd/downloads/complete I know that the mapping is different somehow because It is installed on the NAS, but I just am lost as to what I should do. So far, I have tried for the complete folder: /192.168.restofip/Volume_1/downloads/complete /Volumes/Volume_1/downloads/complete /Volume_1/downloads/complete Does anyone know how to change the path so that I can have it download to one of the topmost folders on the NAS instead of having it download to a folder so deep in the drive?

  As all Internet users, I've visited web sites which appear to know in which country and city I'm located. I understand that these web sites typically look up my IP address in a database which maps IP address to country / city which works fairly well. I've also seen companies selling this type of database. How is this database, which maps an IP address to a country / city, created in the first place? Is there a central database somewhere where each ISP registers the link between IP address and country/city? Or does the companies selling geolocation databases contact different ISP's and purchase the mapping information from them? Or is there some organization 'above' ISP's who keeps track of this?

• Add separate domain name to Wordpress admin area with htaccess

  I have a Wordpress installation in a seperate folder on my server (meaning it is not in the root folder). I have a htaccess rewrite rule that maps Domain A to folder A. Inside folder A is the Wordpress admin folder, let's call it folder A.B. I tried mapping Domain B to folder A.B., but I can't get it to work properly. When you log in to Wordpress via /admin, you get redirected to /wp-login.php (so from folder A.B. to folder A), maybe that is where I get into trouble. So what I would like to do is this: Domain A folder A Domain B folder A.B Note that this is not for security purposes, I just like the idea of www.domainb.com instead of www.domaina.com/wp-admin. Can this be done with Wordpress?

• Using Folder Redirection GPO and Offline Files and Folders

  I want to use Folder Redirection to redirect user's My Documents to a network share. First question is: What is best practices for mapping the drive? Should I use the profile tab in AD with the %username% variable, or a net use logon script, or something else? Second question is: How do I deal with laptops and syncing the network with the local storage? I want to have 2-way syncing so if they manually map their networked home drive and edit it from a different computer, it will sync the newer version to their My Documents folder the next time they connect their normal work computer. I also want to be sure that if they edit a file offline on their laptop while away from the office, that the network version syncs the changes the next time they connect that laptop. Please advise best practices for this scenario in a 2008 R2/Win7 environment. I am also interested in Mac clients for this environment, and while I am very Mac savvy, I would like to hear what others consider to be best practices for Mac network homedirs in a Win environment.

• Subdomain only accessible from one computer

  I recently added a wildcard A record to my domain (*.root.com), mapping it to a certain elastic ip on AWS. I've configured apache to redirect all references to something.root.com to root.com, except for one specific "dev" subdomain, which is hosting its own site (a Django app, specifically). The Problem: This setup works perfectly for me on my computer. But on other computers around the office, it doesn't seem to work. Specifically, trying to visit dev.root.com gives an "unable to find server" error. Pinging dev.root.com gives a "cannot resolve hostname" error. The weird thing: pinging any other subdomain of root.com does work, from all machines. I would think this was all due to DNS propagation, except all the computers are behind the same office router, so how could that be the case? Any ideas?

  On my Debian Linux machine Ctrl+Alt+F1 is bound to a virtual terminal. I can see the corresponding entry by running xmodmap -pke keycode 67 = F1 XF86_Switch_VT_1 F1 XF86_Switch_VT_1 Per this thread, which I might add is consistent with what I've read elsewhere, the columns on the right hand side of = correspond to key, Shift+key, AltGr+key and Shift+AltGr+key. Given that, I don't understand how the keycode mapping for F1 (above) works for Ctrl+Alt+F1. It seems it should really be either Shift+F1 or Shift+AltGr+F1? • [Linux] Bind/map Character to alt+[some key]?

  OS: Ubuntu In programming and various terminal programs (Screen, Vim) the [, ], { and } tends to be used a lot. I'm using a Norwegian keyboard where these are placed such that I have to stretch my fingers a bit too long for whats comfortable. To make it easier I though I'd try to make alt+[some key] be one of these characters. Is there a way that I can bind, say alt+æ (Norwegian letter) to '{' system wide? Btw, is such thing called binding, mapping or something else? I'm getting a bit confused by the terms... :)

• Unable to set NTFS permissions for ApplicationPoolIdentity on Windows 2008 SP2

  On Windows 2008 R2 I am able to set NTFS permissions for an application pool's synthesised ApplicationPoolIdentity account thus: ICACLS d:\websites\site1\www /grant "IIS AppPool\site1":(CI)(OI)(M) The website's application pool is named site1 and is configured to run as ApplicationPoolIdentity. The site's authentication is also configured to authenticate as ApplicationPoolIdentity. I've done this a thousand times on Windows 2008 Standard Edition R2 with never a hitch. However if I try to do the same in Windows 2008 Standard Edition SP2 I get the error: IIS AppPool\site1: No mapping between account names and security IDs was done. Successfully processed 0 files; Failed processing 1 files I also notice that this fails if I try to set permissions for the application pool identity via the security GUI as well. I've seen this before and a reboot has cleared this issue but I'd like to know why this happens periodically. Googling around suggests other folks have hit this problem but there's never a satisfactory explanation. Why would this be?

• WAMP can connect to localhost but not 127.0.0.1

  I'm running WAMP which was working fine the other day. Today I tried connecting to 127.0.0.1 and my browser throws a 404. Both firefox and chrome. My hosts file is correct mapping 127.0.0.1 to localhost. I can telnet to both the IP and localhost port 80 and see a response from apache. When I go to localhost I see the WAMP landing page. I can go to localhost/folder and view the applications just fine. What can be causing the 404's when I go to 127.0.0.1?

  I am using Mozilla Firefox with a PDF viewer plug-in. The plug-in has been correctly associated with Adobe Reader files to view them in the browser in the settings. I would like to be able to view PDF files in Firefox rather than downloading them. This already works correctly when a web server indicates that a file has the Content-Type of application/pdf. However, some web servers provide other Content-Types for PDFs, such as application/octet-stream. (See this example of a PDF served with a non-pdf Content-Type.) I have looked at Firefox's MimeTypes.rdf file, and it appears to only support mapping applications based on file types for non-Internet-based files. How can I have Firefox view all PDF documents in-browser rather than only the ones with the application/pdf Content-Type?

  So the machine is behind a DSL router on a private IP so that it can not receive inbound requests. I want to know: Is there anyway to setup the router NAT (i highly doubt it supports one to one port mapping) without disturbing other users on the same router. I have another machine on internet which has public IP on it without any firewall. Can i use this machine as a relay server so that to initiate the connection, the XP machine send an outbound request and this relay server makes my connection through and then i can access my machine on pvt ip without any problem. Please tell??

  At the moment I'm using context menus a lot to access commands in Firefox, but I would like to replace this repetitive clicking and searching with keyboard shortcuts for the common tasks that I perform. How to assign keys to add-on functionality? E.g. I use Close Other Tabs from Tab Mix Plus a lot - but I could not find any add-on that allows me to create a key combination for it e.g. Ctrl Alt Shift F4? • Unable to map to web folder using WebDAV client on Windows Server 2008 R2

  Hello, I have a client running Windows Server 2008 R2 on several servers. One of the servers is also running SharePoint 3.0 and my client has created a web folder to map to. I can map to the web folder from all Server 2008 R2 boxes that have the WebDAV client (part of Desktop Experience feature) installed, except for the server the folder resides on. When I attempt to map to the web folder on the server which the folder resides, I am repeatedly prompted to enter my credentials. I am using the same account that I used to map the web folder on the other servers. I have also tried mapping from the command line and receive 'Access Denied' What may be causing the problem? I would think that if I can map to the drive from one server, I should be able to map the drive from the rest as long as the WebDAV client is installed, especially on the server where the folder is located. • Command+Tab not working on MacOSX Client with Synergy

  I have an Ubuntu 11.10 laptop paired with an Apple Wireless Keyboard. I'm using the answer on this question to swap the Command and Option keys so that they are mapped like a regular keyboard. This works fine in Ubuntu. Now I have a Macbook Pro running as a Synergy Client. This mapping kind of works on the Macbook, but it only allows me to Command+Tab between two programs, not all of them. Copy, Paste, and other Command keys seem to work fine, but not Command+Tab. It's annoying just because I use the keyboard a lot. And yes, I could switch to syncing the keyboard and the Macbook, but I use the Ubuntu laptop more.

• Windows 7 "Could not reconnect all network drives" on boot

  Windows 7 won't reconnect to my network drives on startup. Once it is done booting opening Windows Explorer and clicking each share will mount them. Windows 7 Enterprise N Service Pack 1 I have attempted formatting the windows machine - first thing done to machine was to map the network drives, upon reboot they were disconnected. It is running on an Crucial M4 64gb SSD. The host of the network shares is a Ubuntu-Server machine connected through a gigabit switch. A modem provides dhcp, although both these machines have static IP's defined. It won't reconnect the drives regardless of whether they're SAMBA shares or NFS shares - therefore I believe it's an issue with the windows machine. Ubuntu 11.10 (GNU/Linux 3.0.0-12-server x86_64) I've tried using ip address instead of netbios name for mapping shares on the windows machine, Also tried setting EnableLinkedConnections=1 gpedit.msc Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates - System-Logon - always wait for the network at computer startup and logon = yes

  Hallo, I'm trying to deploy some classroom control software (NetSupport School) to some of the machines on our network but for some reason when you log off and restart the computer any user who logs on ends up re-installing the software while logging on. I spent two hours on the phone to the complanys support and we eventually nailed it down to most likely a setting in Active Directory or in the login.bat (drive mapping and settings) but we can't find anything in those that would say "run this installer at logon". Is there anywhere else on the system that would set something like this? Server 2003/XP. Ta!

  Tried Googling, tried net use, and anything I could, with no results. I have a PC with users, and I have a network server with shared folders. For some users the usernames of the share and local account match, but the passwords are different (a good security practice). Unfortunately, Windows doesn't want to remap the drives on login, and asks for credentials when I try to connect. If I enter the password, the connection succeeds, but it still fails on next login, even if I have checked the "remember" checkbox. On PC: usera@machinea pass1 On NAS: usera@nas pass2 net use z: \\nasip\usera /user:nasip\usera pass2 /persistent:yes Credential store seems to have the user credentials stored... However I'm also using domain mapping to map other domains to other sites e.g. alldogs.com to alldogs.example.com. The problem is when I'm trying to access the front end of a site from and admin for a mapped domain e.g. alldogs.com by clicking "Visit Site" the Link goes to https://alldogs.com because of the forced ssl applied to the admin area. Which produces a certificate warning since the certificate is for example.com and not alldogs.com. How can write a mod_rewrite rule to determine if the url/link clicked on is not the main domain e.g. example.com then change the https:// to http:// so the site can be accessed via port 80 and not generate a certificate warning for that mapped domains

• Should I use VFAT or ext3 for a 1Tb external usb hard drive?

  I have a 1 Tb USB external hard drive which I want to use to backup data from my home and office desktops (both running Linux). Should I format the drive (possibly split into a few partitions) as vfat or ext3? I don't anticipate using the drive with Windows very often so this is not a primary concern. The main thing holding me back from just using ext3 is the problems you can have when two different users (home and work accounts) try to access each others data. Is there any way to mount an ext3 drive with user id mapping?
