• Any MVVM frameworks work well with NavigationWindows?

  I'd like to "throw away" the current version of a WPF application and move version 2 to a stable MVVM framework. The main concern I'm having is that I don't see much talk about MVVM frameworks and navigation (i.e., NavigationWindows and Frames). My current app relies heavily on Pages to present views to the user. I would prefer to keep it this way. I'd rather not change everything to UserControls and rely on DataTemplates to switch out the view I need to present. Are there any MVVM frameworks that: Work well with NavigationWindows and Pages Provide ViewModels adequate access to the navigation process Provide the ability to change navigation in response to security-related events (e.g., redirect to login Page after logout)

• JPanel: both implementing my own paintComponent() and rendering children doesn't work

  I'm extending a JPanel to display a game board, and adding a JEditorPane at the bottom to hold some status text. Unfortunately, the game board renders just fine, but the JEditorPane is just a blank gray area until I highlight the text in it, when it will render whatever text is highlighted (but not the rest). If I'm understanding Swing right, it should work, because super.paintComponent(g) should render the other children (i.e., the JEditorPane).   Hi i just put up a validation function in jScript to validate filename in fileupload control[input type file]. The function seems to work fine in FF and sometimes in ie but never in Chrome. Basically the function tests if File name is atleast 1 char upto 25 characters long.Contains only valid characters,numbers [no spaces] and are of file types in the list. • Converting a jQuery plugin to work on all objects, not just the DOM

  I am using the jQuery physics plugin for a pet project I am working on. The plugin enables the moving of DOM objects in realistic ways using velocity, gravity, wind etc. However I want to use the plugin to calculate where objects are to be placed inside a canvas element, not DOM object. How do I change the plugin script to work for ANY object with 'top' and 'left' properties rather than only working with DOM objects found with a jQuery selector? • Why won't this SQL CAST work?

  I have a nvarchar(50) column in a SQL Server 2000 table defined as follows: TaskID nvarchar(50) NULL I need to fill this column with some random SQL Unique Identifiers (I am unable to change the column type to uniqueidentifier). I tried this: UPDATE TaskData SET TaskID = CAST(NEWID() AS nvarchar) but I got the following error: Msg 8115, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 Arithmetic overflow error converting expression to data type nvarchar. I also tried: UPDATE TaskData SET TaskID = CAST(NEWID() AS nvarchar(50)) but then got this error: Msg 8152, Level 16, State 6, Line 1 String or binary data would be truncated. I don't understand why this doesn't work but this does: DECLARE @TaskID nvarchar(50) SET @TaskID = CAST(NEW() AS nvarchar(50)) I also tried CONVERT(nvarchar, NEWID()) and CONVERT(nvarchar(50), NEWID()) but got the same errors.

  Guys I've asked few days ago a question and didn't have really time to check it and think about it, but now I've tried one of the solutions and I can't understand why does it work? I mean why destructor is called at the end of line like this: #include "stdafx.h" #include "coutn.h" #define coutn coutn() int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[]) { coutn << "Line one " << 1;//WHY DTOR IS CALLED HERE coutn << "Line two " << " and some text."; return 0; } I assume that it has something to do with lifetime of an object but I'm not sure what and how. As I think of it there are two unnamed objects created but they do not go out of scope so I can't understand for what reason is dtor called. Thank you.

• Cannot get mysql gem to work in Snow Leopard, unable to setup ruby on rails environment

  I am having some serious problems, however this seems to be a common thing. I have Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and here are my other version info: MySQL mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.1.46, for apple-darwin10.2.0 (i386) using readline 5.1 gem 1.3.6 ruby 1.8.7 (2009-06-08 patchlevel 173) [universal-darwin10.0] My problem is that no matter what I do to try and install the mysql gem, i still get the error every time i do rake db:migrate uninitialized constant MysqlCompat::MysqlRes I have installed the mysql gem based on instructions around the web that say to use export ARCHFLAGS="-arch i386 -arch x86_64" ; sudo gem install --no-rdoc --no-ri mysql -- -v 2.7 --with-mysql-dir=/usr/local --with-mysql-config=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config This DOES work, as it gives this output: Building native extensions. This could take a while... Successfully installed mysql-2.8.1 1 gem installed Any help would be greatly appreciated

  I am writing a c# windows service which will be polling an SFTP folder for new files (one file = one job) and processing them. Multiple instances of the service may be running at the same time, so it is important that they do not step on each other. I realize that an SFTP folder does not make an ideal queue, but that's what I have to work with. What do I need to do to either use this SFTP folder as a concurrent message queue, or safely represent it in a way that can be used concurrently?

• DebuggerDisplay attribute does not work as expected!

  Dear ladies and sirs. I know that this attribute should work in C# and yet, in my case it does not. I have a class with a lazy property Children. Accessing this property may have a side effect of roundtripping to the server. So, naturally, I do not want this to happen when I just watch it in the debugger watch window. Omitting all the irrelevant details the source looks pretty ordinary: [DebuggerDisplay("(Frozen) {m_children}")] public IList<IEntityBase> Children { get { if (m_children == null) { m_children = FetchChildrenFromDB(this); } return m_children; } } And yet, when I watch the object and expand this in the watch window I do not see (Frozen) in the display, meaning the debugger simply ignores the attribute.   Twitter client (formerly Tweetie) allows you to define a bookmarklet in Safari that launches the app. I want to know which iPhone API allows you to register the protocol specifier (or whatever it's called) - in this case "tweetie:" - in order for this bookmarklet to work. The instructions can be found here and the bookmarklet itself is below. javascript:window.location='tweetie:'+window.location Clicking the above bookmark is the same as typing in "tweetie:http://google.com" into the address bar. This is obviously supported on the OS/Browser level, much the same as tel: URIs.   I use use lib "./DIR" to grab a library from a folder elsewhere. However, it doesn't seem to work on my server, but it works fine on my local desktop. Any particular reasons? And one more question, does use lib get propagated within several modules? Two situations: Say I make a base class that requires a few libraries, but I know that it needs to be extended and the extended class will need to use another library. Can I put the use lib command in the base class? or will I need to put it in every extending class? Finally, can I just have a use package where package contains a bunch of use lib, will it propagate the use lib statements over to my current module? <-- I don't think so, but asking anyways

• Can't seem to get Prototype AJAX form validation to work in conjunction with Codeigniter

  Is there some kind of trick involved? Here's how I would envision it working: 1) User tries submitting the form 2) Event.observe captures this and sends an AJAX request to a special validation URL (PHP using Codeigniter) 3) If no errors were returned, continue submitting the original form 4) If errors were found, cancel form submission and display Mostly, I can't seem to get a separate AJAX validation request to work as the form continues submitting. I could use Event.stop(event), but have not found a way to re-start the process if no validation errors exist from the validation call. I'd post code, but I have about 15 examples of things I've tried and it would just clutter this question. Any ideas? :-( I didn't think form validation would be this difficult. Many thanks, - Matt

  Hello, I created a small app in C# that removes border and caption from window, then it sets size to the user's resolution and centers it. It's a utility for me to use when I want to play games in windowed mode without being annoyed by the borders. Everything works fine with most games, but I tried to use it on a recently released game Alpha Protocol and it doesn't work. I could almost say that the game reverts my changes, but I'm not sure how to tell if that's true or not. I'm using imported API functions MoveWindow, SetWindowLong and SetWindowPos. • Help getting ActiveScaffold to work properly

  Hey there I was curious about the ActiveScaffold Rails plugin, but somehow I can't get it to work properly. I've followed the steps which are described on http://activescaffold.com/tutorials/ . The table and everything shows up and when I click on "Create new", the dialog pops up. However, when I fill out the form and click "Create", I just get "500 Internal server error". In the server log, it says "NameError (wrong constant name ###):", with ### being what I entered in the first form field. If I don't enter anything in the form, it says "NoMethodError (undefined method `new_record?' for #):"... So what am I doing wrong here? Thanks in advance for your help :)

• CRXIR2 doesn't work with VS2010 on Windows 7 nor on Vista

  We're upgrading from VS2005 to VS2010. We are almost there but there is a problem with Crystal Reports. We use the RDC (COM-based) component within our C++ application. On Windows 7 or on VISTA, I can't get the viewer nor the designer controls working. I get Access Violations when the control is activated: // from atlhost.h (line 2208) hr = m_spOleObject->DoVerb(OLEIVERB_INPLACEACTIVATE, NULL, spClientSite, 0, m_hWnd, &m_rcPos); The strange thing is that when I run the same exe on a XP machine, it seems to work. We basically use "AtlAxWin100" window class to host the Crystal report control ("CrystalReports11.ActiveXReportViewer.1") in. I'm using the SP6 version of Crystal reports so that's the latest version. Also, when I compile the same code with VS2005 and run it on Windows7 or Vista everything works out just fine. Does anybody have any idea about what might cause the problem, or ideas for further investigations?

  Hi, I'm having problems retrieving the values of a selectlist in my form collection. I've tried making a viewmodel with an attribute with the same name as the select list. I'm honestly just realizing I REALLY don't understand how model binding works with selectlists. I've just been assuming that the following conventions apply: Name the select list the same thing as the attribute on the model you want it to bind to. Apart from that, I really don't get it. I've looked at several books on it and they're useless frankly. How does a select list work with a) form collection and b) a particular model?
