  • SSRS Multilookup Function for Names with Comma Separation

    I would like to put the following in a a multilookup drop-down in reporting services: "Smith, John", "Jones, Tim", "Kelly, Andy" The comma separating the first and last name prevents the multilookup from working correctly. I am also unable to use ticks (' or ") in reporting service to keep the separating comma from working like a multilookup comma that separates the fields I want to select from. Is there a way to keep the comma in the names while still allowing multilookup? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

  • File paths with XSLT includes

    Hi again everyone. I'm working on a website with a large number of pages, and each one has this in it: <xsl:include href="team-menu.xsl" /> This xsl file is stored in the root directory. Essentially including my "team menu" on each page. My problem is when I include this on nested pages, e.g. "/teammembers/smith.xsl", the links in the menu are broken because they refer to pages that aren't in the same directory as the page i'm viewing. This is probably really easy, but I just don't know how to fix it. Is there a way to tell the XSL the root directory and/or set some sort of global directory? Thanks for your help!

    I have a table that contains members names and a field with multiple ID numbers. I want to create a query that returns results where any values in the ID fields overlap with any values in the array. For example: lastname: Smith firstname: John id: 101, 103 I have Array #1 with the values 101, 102, 103 I want the query to output all members who have the values 101 or 102 or 103 listed in their id field with multiple ids listed.     Hi there, I have had only very little experience using the address book in the iPhone SDK. Does anyone have a code snippet or knows the code to get a persons name and number Eg 'Fred Smith - 027 292 2112". I haven't had much luck with the stuff I've tried. I want to achieve this programmatically, and not let the user decide (random pick of the person).   • StringBuilder/StringBuffer vs. "+" Operator

    I'm reading "Better, Faster, Lighter Java" (by Bruce Tate and Justin Gehtland) and am familiar with the readability requirements in agile type teams, such as what Robert Martin discusses in his clean coding books. On the team I'm on now, I've been told explicitly not to use the "+" operator because it creates extra (and unnecessary) string objects during runtime. But this article: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/library/j-jtp01274.html Written back in '04 talks about how object allocation is about 10 machine instructions. (essentially free) It also talks about how the GC also helps to reduce costs in this environment. What is the actual performance tradeoffs between using "+," "StringBuilder," or "StringBuffer?" (In my case it is StringBuffer only as we are limited to Java 1.4.2.) StringBuffer to me results in ugly, less readable code, as a couple of examples in Tate's book demonstrates. And StringBuffer is thread-synchronized which seems to have its own costs that outweigh the "danger" in using the "+" operator. Thoughts/Opinions?

  • How to get started with embedded systems in the aircraft or submarine industries?

    Hi, Not 100% sure how to frame this question but here goes... I currently work as a Rails developer but want to work on more substancial / "meaty" projects and have always been very interested in embedded systems, especially systems that run on aircraft and especially submarines.....I know strange combination. I have been doing some searching & found lockheed martin produces a lot of underwater systems for various navys around the world e.g. http://www.naval-technology.com/projects/nssn/ However, there is very little information about what software is used within these systems, what OS's they use or anything else "technical", presume there is a lot of C / C++ involved but that is just a guess... so its hard to know where to even begin learning what is required to potential work in these areas. Just wondering if anyone has any experiance working with or more information about embeddeed systems in either the airline (onboard flight systems) or especially submarine systems? Thanks!

    I am planning the implemention an Inheritance Mapper pattern for an application component http://martinfowler.com/eaaCatalog/inheritanceMappers.html One feature it needs to have is for a domain object to reference a large list of aggreageted items (10,000 other domain objects) So I need some kind of lazy loading collection to be passed out of the aggregate root domain object to other domain objects. To keep my (php) model scripts organised i am storing them in two folders: MyComponent\ controllers\ models\ domain\ <- domain objects, DDD repository, DDD factory daccess\ <- PoEAA data mappers, SQL queries etc views\ But now I am racking my brains wondering where my lazy loading collection sits. Any suggestions / justifications for putting it in one place over another another?   • [WPF] Drag and drop between 2 popups

    Our application is a WPF (4.0) AppBar docked to the top of the desktop. Various buttons in the AppBar produce Popups containing various data (in ListBoxes). I am trying to implement drag and drop of items between 2 Popups. It's pretty standard boiler plate stuff using Josh Smith's draggable ListBox that I've used half a dozen times before. Drag is initiating correctly, but the target Popup is not receiving the DragOver or Drop. Is this a focus issue? Or is there something else at work here?

How would you do this? I can't depend on the date/time as this is a login report that is constantly getting updated - all I want is to ensure that the last line ends with that email address. And I can't figure out how to do it using Selenium expressions, DOM, or XPath.

    Writing an iphone app, and I'm getting my data from a REST API that returns JSON. My problem is, some of the data has special characters embedded and Im getting errors. Example: MartÌn Petite-RiviËre-Saint-FranÁois Here is my current code: NSString *jsonString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:receivedData encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; NSMutableArray *tempResults = [[[jsonString JSONValue] objectForKey:@"getRegionResortsLastUpdatedResponse"] objectForKey:@"return"]; Whenever the data has special characters in it "jsonString" return "(null)", otherwise everything works fine. Is this something I can handle on my end, or does the API need to be modified to output the character codes?

  • Select calls seems to not time out.

    HI Folks, I have a threaded C++ program where up to three threads are calling select on a three separate socket descriptors waiting for data to become available. Each thread handles one socket and adds it to the readfds with a timeout of 300 seconds. After select returns if there is data available I'm calling recv to read it. Is there anything that I need to be aware of with winsock and threads because for some reason after a number of hours the select calls all seem to be not timing out. Can a multi threaded program select from a number of threads without issue? I know that I should have one thread listening to all three sockets however that would be a large change for this app and I'm only looking to apply a bug fix. cheers, Martin.

    Anyone knows some design patterns for hierarchical structures? For example, to manage inventory categories, accounting chart of accounts, divisions of human resources, etc.. I am looking for a better way of dealing with hierarchical items to which they should apply operations depending on the level of hierarchy. I have been studying the patterns by Martin Fowler, for example Accounting, but I wonder if there are other more generic. The problem is that operations apply to the items must be possible to change even at run time and may depend on other external variables. I thought of a kind of strategy pattern but would like to combine it with the fact that it is a hierarchical scheme. I would appreciate any reference to hierarchical patterns and you'll take care of them in depth.

  • A good F# codebase to learn from

    Hi all, I've been teaching myself F# for a while now. I've read Programming F# by Chris Smith (great book) and I've written a few small scripts for getting the job done here and there. But IMO the best way to learn a new programming language—and more importantly, the idioms that come with it—is to read a good open source codebase written in that language. Naturally, writing code in that language is crucial, but in the beginning, you're basically struggling with your own ignorance about how things should be done. You could perform certain tasks one way or the other, but it takes experience to realize the flaws and virtues of each. Even after you've gotten a firm grasp of how things work, reading the code of people who have an even firmer one helps a great deal. Most would agree that the most insightful parts of any learn-a-programming-language book are the code examples, and reading a well-written open source codebase is the next level of that. So are there any out there for F#?

  • Indexed key vs indexed separate columns, which one is faster ?

    In MYSQL, from a pure performance perspective, if I have a table with large amount of data with 10/1 read/write ratio. is it faster in read/write performance to have 4 search criteria in separate columns and all indexed or have them combined in to one single string acting as a key and store in one indexed column ? e.g. say this table with 5 columns, first name, last name, sex, country and file where the first four columns will ALWAYS be given as a part of search parameters in a search or have a table with two columns, key and file. where the value of key can be john-smith-male-australia ?? I don't quite get the pros and cons. the point I try to stress is the fact that all parameters will be given.in a search.

  • Doesn't Spring really support Interface injection at all?

    Hi I know that Spring doesn't supports Interface injection and I've read that many a times. But today as I came across an article about IOC by Martin Fowler (link), it seems using ApplicationContextAware in Spring is some what similar to the Interface injection. when ever Spring' context reference is required in our Spring bean, we'll implement ApplicationContextAware and will implement the setApplicationContext(ApplicationContext context) method, and we'll include the bean in the config file. Is not this the same as Interface injection, where where telling the Spring to inject (or), say, pass the reference of the context into this bean? Or I m missing something here?   • sharepoint wss 3.0 user domain

    I've inherited a sharepoint wss 3.0 farm that is pulling users from 2 different domains, say domainA and domainB. So if I go into Add User and Browse, and type Smith, it is coming up with domainA\jsmith and domainB\jsmith. The company has moved away from domainA and uses only domainB now. So I want to remove domainA from the sharepoint configuration. I don't need to migrate existing sharepoint users, I just want for the domainA users to stop showing up when new users are added. I've been through every page I can find in Central Administration and I don't see where the names of the domain controller(s) are specified. It is using windows auth / NTLM.
