Installing Linux kernel 2.6.25.14 on RHEL 5.4

I have to install Linux kernel version 2.5.25.14 on a RHEL 5.4 server because of drive compatibility issues. I follow the RedHat "Building a Custom Kernel" instructions running the following: $ make mrproper $ make xconfig $ make clean $ make bzImage $ make modules $ make modules_install $ make install But I get a bunch of warnings like this: WARNING: No module ehci-hcd found for kernel 2.6.25.24, continuing anyway When I try to boot this kernel it is unable to mount the hard drive, and kernel panics on startup. As far as I can tell I'm using a standard configuration (I just accept the defaults and save a .config file). Is there something I'm missing? Thanks.

Computer freezes for 2+ seconds, mouse still moves

I have this problem on my workstation. The computer would effectively freeze for 2-5 seconds for no apparent reason, then continue as normal. While frozen the mouse would still be movable, but only on one of screens in my multi-screen setup. What can be the likely cause. System: CPU: i7-920 Memory: 12G of Patriot DDR3, 6 modules OS: SLED 11, Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop, using Gnome Main board: Asus P6T Video: two Nvidia 9500GT connected to three displays I am using memory at recommended settings of 8-8-8-1333. It has an XMP profile. Th CPU is a bit overclocked to 3.3 GHz, but my cooling more than allows for it. I ran the computer with all overclocks off and lower memory speed but the issue was still there. Any ideas? Where should I start looking?

How to get Atheros ar242x wireless adapter working under Debian Linux?

Does anybody know how to get the Atheros ar242x wireless adapter working under Debian Linux (5.0.2 and/or 5.0.3)? My Debian live CDs and install CDs both don't like this card at all. Curisouly, it seems to work on other, Debian-based, Linuxes. Is this a free/non-free Driver issue? I know Debian gets mardy about that. Although for what it's worth, the Live CD doesn't seem to detect my wired LAN connection either... Specifically this is on a Samsung R610 laptop (some version of which seem to have an intel wireless adapter - this one definitely doesn't!) I've tried all sorts of things but obviously on a live CD installing software is limited. I've also tinkerering with network config files and kernel modules etc but to no avail.

Puppet apache module causing 'Error 400 on SERVER: Invalid parameter identifier'

I am receiving the following error when trying to use the latest puppetlabs-apache module from github (https://github.com/puppetlabs/puppetlabs-apache): Error: Could not retrieve catalog from remote server: Error 400 on SERVER: Invalid parameter identifier at /etc/puppet/environments/apache_update/modules/apache/manifests/mod.pp:40 on node zordon.mydomain.com Warning: Not using cache on failed catalog Error: Could not retrieve catalog; skipping run My node config looks like: node 'zordon.mydomain.com' { include template::common include template::puppetagent include template::lamp User::Create sudo::conf { 'joe': priority = 60, content = 'joe ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL', require = User::Create['joe'], } } The template::lamp class is what uses apache module: class template::lamp { include myfirewall Firewall Firewall class { 'apache': } class { 'apache::mod::php': } class { 'apache::mod::ssl': } class { 'mysql::server': } } It looks like serverfault markup is getting garbled on Puppet realize statements. The User::Create and Firewall lines are just realizing a user and 2 firewall rules. I have verified that the /var/lib/puppet/lib/puppet/type/a2mod.rb type has the identifier parameter and it is the same MD5 as the server. I am using Puppet 3.0.1 on both agent and master. Any idea what may cause this?

I need to build a module to manage /etc/sssd/sssd.conf on our Red Hat VMs. The sssd modules published on the forge don't seem to do what I want, nor do I feel like forking any of them. I want to keep all the configuration data in Hiera's common.yaml file. Below is my sssd.conf file. How can I find out if mod_security is installed on my apache server? I would also like to learn its version. I'm having some upload issues and I tried to disable mod_security using .htaccess. But that started producing 500 internal server errors. I read somewhere that depending on my mod_security version I might not be able to disable it using .htaccess. So I would like to understand if I have mod_security installed and what version it is. I'm on a centos 5 box. Thanks! Hyper-V Ubuntu 10.04, Filesystem suddenly becomes Read-Only?

We are running a Ubuntu 10.04 VM on a Hyper-V system, The VM is dedicated to running one of our web applications. We have enabled the Hyper-V drivers in /etc/initramfs-tools/modules like so: hv_vmbus hv_storvsc hv_blkvsc hv_netvsc And updated the kernel image like so: $ update-initramfs -u And all was good... until.. This morning i got a support request that our web application was throwing an error 500, so i checked the logs and nothing was there. Then I remembered that I had seen this on another of our ubuntu servers so I... $ touch foo.txt And my suspicions were confirmed: touch: cannot touch `foo.txt': Read-only file system Why is the filesystem randomly becoming readonly? Is this only in Ubuntu on HV? Is it a problem on RedHat or Cent?

How to configure Postfix client relay to Exchange 2010 server

I'm getting (delivery temporarily suspended: SASL authentication failed; server myserver.com[xxx.xxx.xxx.x] said: 535 5.7.3 Authentication unsuccessful) when I try to relay mail from Postfix 2.5.5-1.1 on Debian Lenny box to Exchange 2010. I think I tried all possible combinations but I'm definitely missing something. Here is relevant part of main.cf: broken_sasl_auth_clients = yes smtp_sasl_auth_enable = yes smtp_sasl_security_options = noanonymous smtp_sasl_password_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/sasl_passwd smtp_pix_workarounds = smtp_sasl_type = cyrus smtp_always_send_ehlo = yes relayhost = myserver.com And I got libsasl2-modules installed. Anybody managed to successfully relay mail between Postfix and Exchange? Oh, and I already double-checked if password is right.

Apache2 enable .ini mod in /etc/php5/mods-available

One can use the a2enmod [module] command to enable mods located in /etc/apache2/mods-available. But what about mods in /etc/php5/mods-available? When I try to enable a mod in this directory (eg. xdebug), I get the following error: ERROR: Module xdebug does not exist! Yet, /etc/php5/mods-available/xdebug.ini exists. I understand a2enmod may work only with *.load files (it makes sense since *.ini files are just configuration files) but then what's the correct way of enabling modules located in /etc/php5/mods-available?

make IIS 7.5 cache static content files over diferent pages

On a Windows 2008 R2, using DNS and IIS I've established my development test server; i.e. I'll have a web application that I can browse on http://test.dev I've moved all the static content files like images, js files and css files into another application which is visible on http://cdn.test.dev test.dev, uses cdn.test.dev urls like http://cdn.test.dev/js/jquery.js to load js, css and images. When I first load "~/" of test.dev, all files will load with a response code of 200; when I press F5 in Firefox, all files, except the "~/default.aspx", will load with 304 response code; but pressing Ctrl+F5 loads them again with a 200 code; if I browse another url like "~/pages/" in test.dev, all of those static files will reload with a 200 code... Is this normal or I'm doing something wrong? Actually, I'm looking for a behavior like this: I want the client to load http://cdn.test.dev/js/jquery.js, only once. I want the client's browser to use this jquery.js file, from cache, in all other pages of test.dev Is this possible? CISCO WS-C4948-10GE SFP+?

I have a pair of CISCO WS-C4948-10GE's that we need to connect to a new switch that has SFP+ and QSFP ports. Is there an X2 module that supports this? If so, can someone name the part number that will work? I have found some information, but want to make sure I have the correct part number for our exact switches. Per the discussion in the comments, I believe I have a better understanding of things now. Python Profiling not installed in Ubuntu? How do I get it in a virtualenv and without apt-get?

According to the Python documentation, the "profile" module is part of the standard library. But I can't find it. On my home machine, I was able to add it using apt-get install. (ie. it's split out into a separate ubuntu package.) On my work machine, (also ubuntu) I'm running in a virtualenv, so apt-get install isn't relevant. I can install python modules from pypi using easy-install, but I can't see anything on pypi which corresponds to the profiling module. (Presumably because it's meant to be part of the standard python install.) So how can I install it in this environment?

Fedora12 Slow USB 2.0 Write Speed, ehci_hcd module is missing.

I am using Fedora 12, the problem i am facing is USB 2.0 write speed. I have a dual boot system with Window XP and Fedora 12. USB 2.0 write speed in Windows XP is much faster then what i am getting in Fedora 12. After some googling i came to know that ehci_hcd module is missing/not present in my system. ehci_hcd module is neither loaded nor it is present in the available list of modules. Can someone guide me how to fix this issue? Is ehci_hcd have something to do with USB 2.0 write speed or? Should i have to recompile the kernel and add/enable he ehci_hcd module?

Header unset Server not working for static files

I'm trying to unset the "Server" field in response headers. I do this using Header unset Server, and that works fine for requests handled by mod_perl. However, for requests to /static I use Apache to serve static files. For some reason, when these files are loaded directly in the browser, the Server field is not removed. How can I go about fixing this? Installing mod_xsendfile on MAMP

Hello, I'm having trouble installing mod_xsendfile on MAMP. I was able to seem to load the module at least. Hiera + Puppet classes

I'm trying to figure out Puppet (3.0) and how it relates to built-in Hiera. So this is what I tried, an extremely simple example (I'll make a more complex hierarchy when I manage to get the simple one working): # /etc/puppet/hiera.yaml :backends: - yaml :hierarchy: - common :yaml: :datadir: /etc/puppet/hieradata # /etc/puppet/hieradata/common.yaml test::param: value # /etc/puppet/modules/test/manifests/init.pp class test ($param) { notice($param) } # /etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp include test If I directly apply it, it's fine: $ puppet apply /etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp Scope(Class[Test]): value If I go through puppet master, it's not fine: $ puppet agent --test Could not retrieve catalog from remote server: Error 400 on SERVER: Must pass param to Class[Test] at /etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp:1 on node <nodename> What am I missing? EDIT: I just left the office but a thought struck me: I should probably restart puppet master so it can see the new hiera.conf. I'll try that on Monday; in the meantime, if anyone figures out some not-it problem, I'd appreciate it :)

Enabling mod_fcgid results in 403

I have an EasyPHP 12.1 setup (latest) on Windows 7x64 and I'm trying to enable mod_fcgid for PHP. I have added the following in my httpd.conf Include conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf LoadModule fcgid_module modules/mod_fcgid.so FcgidInitialEnv PHPRC "C:\progra~2\EasyPHP-12.1\php\php546x121028092509" AddHandler fcgid-script .php FcgidWrapper "C:\progra~2\EasyPHP-12.1\php\php546x121028092509/php-cgi.exe" .php and Options ExecCGI Indexes FollowSymLinks under <Directory "${path}/www"> I've made sure the paths are all good and set permissions on the entire C:\progra~2\EasyPHP-12.1 and my www root to Everyone - Allow All. Yet I still get 403 on all server(localhost) requests. Along with Apache/2.4.2 (Win32) PHP/5.4.6 mod_fcgid/2.3.7 so I know mod_fcgid is enabled and is causing the 403. Commenting out the above lines from httpd.conf makes it work again but is slower than death (which is why I wanted mod_fcgid). What could I be doing wrong?

Hi, I want to bypass certificate checking. I tried using svn --trust-server-cert update, but I get an error, svn: invalid option: --trust-server-cert. I am on ubuntu and the svn version is 1.5.4. Is there any other way to bypass the certificate? Ubuntu won't automatically update my svn to 1.6.xx, which I think has this option. (In any case, I have heard that 1.6.xx has compatibility problems with some apache modules so is not fully safe to install?). Anyone with a suggestion? Thanks JP

I have Apache2 running on Ubuntu 14.04LTS. To begin securing network access to the machine, I want to start by blocking everything, then make specific allow statements for specific subnets to browse to sites hosted in Apache. The Ubuntu Server is installed with no packages selected during install, the only packages added after install are: apt-get update; apt-get install apache2, php5 (with additional php5-modules), openssh-server, mysql-client Following are my /etc/hosts.deny & /etc/hosts.allow settings: /etc/hosts.deny ALL:ALL /etc/hosts.allow has no allow entries at all. I would expect all network protocols to be denied. The symptom is that I can still web browse to sites hosted on the Apache web server even though there is a deny all statement in /etc/hosts.deny The system was rebooted after the deny entry was added. Why would /etc/hosts.deny with ALL:ALL be ignored and allow http browsing to sites hosted on the apache web server?

I have a few hints to think that it is not: The "Desktop Effects" will not load Apps such as stardock, when attempting to use OpenGL rendering, will display black boxes instead of transparency In the games Pioneers, the number-tile icons are suspiciously just black circles Windows games running with Wine will only support software rendering, not hardware rendering When I boot into a Knoppix LiveCD, the desktop effects do work, splendidly, meaning compiz detects my computer as capable. My problem with troubleshooting is that Canonical has basically eliminated the conf-file-based mechanism of X11 as far as I can tell, thus making it even harder to ensure graphics modules are loading properly. How do I debug and test OpenGL on m Ubuntu 10.04 installation?

VLC 2.0: can't enable UPnP support

I'm attempting to use VLC 2.0.1 (Intel 64 bit) to connect to a UPnP server (Serviio 0.6.2 on OS X Snow Leopard). I've tried to enable the feature by right clicking the "Universal Plug 'n Play" node in the LOCAL NETWORK section of the Main Window. While I am able to select 'Enable', the setting doesn't seem to 'stick'. Moreover, UPnP isn't listed in the Playlist Service discovery section of the preferences. The 'Service discovery modules' is currently set to upnp_intel:sap. I am able to connect to the UPnP server with my Samsung TV, so I know that the service works.
