• Perl on MacOS X 10.6.2: GDBM_File missing, how to install or work around?

  When I need a Perl module, I typically use CPAN. It works fine. But not this time. I want to use MARC::Charset, but this one uses GDBM_File, and I can't seem to install GDBM_File from CPAN. CPAN finds it all right, but trying to install it, it starts installing the full Perl 5.10.1 distribution. MARC::Charset is a rather old module, so there should be a way to use it from some common Perl version (Mac OS X 10.6.2 has 5.10.0 and 5.8.9 by default). While installing the full blow Perl 5.10.1 is not an option, modifying MARC::Charset to stop using GDBM_File might be one. What would be the best course of action to do so? This last option might also be the only one. googling GDBM_File uncovers a few items that suggest that gdbm is not even available on the Mac. Those items typically went over my head though. While I don't expect a silver bullet, somebody may have a pointer or two on where I should start. After all, MARC::Charset only does character transliteration to/from the marc8 char set, which unfortunately, iconv doesn't seem to support.

• How to install FFMpeg in WampServer 2.0 (Windows XP)

  I need to install the ffmpeg PHP extension on my localhost so I can test few of my scripts but I am having troubles figuring out how to do that. I have WampServer 2.0 with PHP 5.2.9-2, my OS is Windows XP. Please somebody give me step by step instructions. I have found some Windows builds here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffmpeg-php/files/ But I don't know which one to download and what to do with files. EDITED: What I have done so far: Download ffmpeg_new Copy php_ffmpeg.dll from the php5 folder to the C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.2.9-2\ext Copy files from common to the windows/system32 folder Add extension=php_ffmpeg.dll to php.ini file Restarted all services (Apache, PHP...) • jQuery validation plugin and .ajax

  So, I have a form where I load divs as I go asking for various user input and displaying some offers. If I remove the validation methods (rules, messages, submitHandler), everything works fine. • Mysql SELECT FOR UPDATE - strange issue

  Hi, I have a strange issue (at least for me :)) with the MySQL's locking facility. I have a table: Create Table: CREATE TABLE test ( id int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, PRIMARY KEY (id) ) ENGINE=InnoDB AUTO_INCREMENT=13 DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 With this data: +----+ | id | +----+ | 3 | | 4 | | 5 | | 6 | | 7 | | 8 | | 10 | | 11 | | 12 | +----+ Now I have 2 clients with these commands executed at the beginning: set autocommit=0; set session transaction isolation level serializable; begin; Now the most interesting part. The first client executes this query: (makes an intent to insert a row with id equal to 9) SELECT * from test where id = 9 FOR UPDATE; Empty set (0.00 sec) Then the second client does the same: SELECT * from test where id = 9 FOR UPDATE; Empty set (0.00 sec) My question is: Why the second client does not block ? An exclusive gap lock should have been set by the first query because FOR UPDATE have been used and the second client should block. If I am wrong, could somebody tell me how to do it correctly ? • MS Chart in WPF, Setting the DataSource is not creating the Series

  Hi All, Here I am trying to assign the datasource (using same code given in the sample application) and create a graph, only difference is i am doing it in WPF WindowsFormsHost. due to some reason the datasource is not being assigned properly and i am not able to see the series ("Series 1") being created. wired thing is that it is working in the Windows Forms application but not in the WPF one. am i missing something and can somebody help me?   Hi all, My problem: First of hopefully this is not a duplicate, but I could not find the right answer(right away). I would like to validate that an URI(http) is valid in Java. I came up with the following tests but I can't get them to pass. First I used getPort(), but then http://www.google.nl will return -1 on getPort(). • Redirect on Ajax Jquery Call

• How to find cause and of the SocketException with message that an established connection was aborted

  Hi All, I know the similar question may have been asked many times, but I want to represent the behavior I'm seeing and find if somebody can help predict the cause of this. I am writing a windows service which connects to other windows service over TCP. There are 100 user entities of this, and 5 connections per each. These users perform their tasks using their individual connections. The application goes on withough seeing this problem for 1 or 2 days. Or sometimes show the problem right after starting (-rarely). The best run I had was like 4 to 5 days without showing this exception. And after that application died or I had to stop it for various reasons. I want to know what can be causing this? • XML to Type - Quick way?

  Team; How are you doing? Im breaking my head trying to do this that seems simple but I can't figure it out... Suppose I have this XML as a string: <calles> <calle> <nombre>CALLAO AV.</nombre> <altura>1500</altura> <longitud>-58.3918617027</longitud> <latitud>-34.5916734896</latitud> <barrio>Recoleta</barrio> </calle> </calles> And and have this Type I created to map that XML: public class Ubicacion { public string Latitud { get; set; } public string Longitud { get; set; } public string Nombre { get; set; } public string Altura { get; set; } public string Barrio { get; set; } public Ubicacion() { } } I need to take that XML file and create an object with those values... Does somebody know a quick way to do it? with C#? I have been trying this but is not working at all... • basic javascript question on geolocation and googlemaps

I am uploading GIFs, Twitter returns the expected result for update_profile_background_image but returns 401 for update_profile_image , but the image is not changed. • Nonblocking Tcp server

  It's not a question really, i'm just looking for some guidelines :) I'm currently writing some abstract tcp server which should use as low number of threads as it can. Currently it works this way. I have a thread doing listening and some worker threads. Listener thread is just sits and wait for clients to connect I expect to have a single listener thread per server instance. Worker threads are doing all read/write/processing job on clients socket. So my problem is in building efficient worker process. And I came to some problem I can't really solve yet. Worker code is something like that(code is really simple just to show a place where i have my problem): List<Socket> readSockets = new List<Socket>(); List<Socket> writeSockets = new List<Socket>(); List<Socket> errorSockets = new List<Socket>(); while( true ){ Socket.Select( readSockets, writeSockets, errorSockets, 10 ); foreach( readSocket in readSockets ){ // do reading here } foreach( writeSocket in writeSockets ){ // do writing here } // POINT2 and here's the problem i will describe below } it works all smothly accept for 100% CPU utilization because of while loop being cycling all over again, if I have my clients doing send-receive-disconnect routine it's not that painful, but if I try to keep alive doing send-receive-send-receive all over again it really eats up all CPU. So my first idea was to put a sleep there, I check if all sockets have their data send and then putting Thread.Sleep in POINT2 just for 10ms, but this 10ms later on produces a huge delay of that 10ms when I want to receive next command from client socket.. For example if I don't try to "keep alive" commands are being executed within 10-15ms and with keep alive it becomes worse by atleast 10ms :( Maybe it's just a poor architecture? What can be done so my processor won't get 100% utilization and my server to react on something appear in client socket as soon as possible? Maybe somebody can point a good example of nonblocking server and architecture it should maintain?

• UINavigationController creating a blank view out of thin air?

  Ok, this one is really weird... I can't show code for it exactly cause it follows a pretty snake-like pattern through subclasses etc, there would be a pile of it. The important parts are that I push a view controller, which during viewWillAppear pushes another view controller onto the nav controller. My nav controller is an item in a tab bar. When I press back twice, I wind up at a blank view with the same title as my root view controller, (I have no other views having this title). I even tested and put a NSLog() in viewWillAppear to make sure it was the same view appearing, but for some reason the mystery blank view is showing up instead of my view. I am able to get the original view back by pressing the button on the tab bar again. (The one that corresponds to the nav controller). This confuses me greatly, so any help would be appreciated. I will post code if somebody could narrow down what code to put. Thanks.

• Copy Constructors and calling functions

  Hello, I'm trying to call an accessor function in a copy constructor but it's not working. Here's an example of my problem: A.h class A { public: //Constructor A(int d); //Copy Constructor A(const A &rhs); //accessor for data int getData(); //mutator for data void setData(int d); private: int data; }; A.cpp #include "A.h" //Constructor A::A(int d) { this->setData(d); } //Copy Constructor A::A(const A &rhs) { this->setData(rhs.getData()); } //accessor for data int A::getData() { return data; } //mutator for data void A::setData(int d) { data = d; } When I try to compile this, I get the following error: error: passing 'const A' as 'this' argument of 'int A::getData()' discards qualifiers If I change rhs.getData() to rhs.data, then the constructor works fine. Am I not allowed to call functions in a copy constructor? Could somebody please tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks, helixed

• OleDb database to DataSet and back in c#?

  I'm writing a program that lets a user: Connect to an (arbitrary) View all of the tables in that database in separate DataGridViews Edit them in the program, generate random data, and see the results Choose to commit those changes or revert So I discovered the DataSet class, which looks like it's capable of holding everything that a database would, and I decided that the best thing to do here would be to load everything into one dataset, let the user edit it, and then save the dataset back to the database. The problem is that the only way I can find to load the database tables is this: set = new DataSet(); DataTable schema = connection.GetOleDbSchemaTable( OleDbSchemaGuid.Tables, new string[] { null, null, null, "TABLE" }); foreach (DataRow row in schema.Rows) { string tableName = row.Field<string>("TABLE_NAME"); DataTable dTable = new DataTable(); new OleDbDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM " + tableName, connection).Fill(dTable); dTable.TableName = tableName; set.Tables.Add(dTable); } while it seems like there should be a simpler way given that datasets appear to be designed for exactly this purpose. The real problem though is when I try saving these things. In order to use the OleDbDataAdapter.Update() method, I'm told that I have to provide valid INSERT queries. Doesn't that kind of negate the whole point of having a class to handle this stuff for me? Anyway, I'm hoping somebody can either explain how to load and save a database into a dataset or maybe give me a better idea of how to do what I'm trying to do. I could always parse the commands together myself, but that doesn't seem like the best solution.

• Implementing the outside application „openedFileView“ in c# Project

  I work on a application where i want to find out which files on my filesystem is used by a Process. After trying around with the System.Diagnostics.Process class, and didn´t get the resulst i wanted i find the application called OpenedFileView from Nirsoft. http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/opened_files_view.html Basically it does exactly what i want but i have some problems with the implimication in my project. The option wich “OpenedFileView” gives you is to start it with some arguments that it creates you an txt file with all the information i want. But for my case i want to whach the processes in realtime, and if i start the application repetitively i always have the hourglass at my mouse cursor. So after this i tryed some ways to get rid of it, tryed out to put it in a BackgroundWorker Thread. But this changed nothing at all. I also looked for a way to force the Process not to exit, and sending new arguments to it, but this also didn´t worked. So is there any way to use this application in the way I want, or does this didn´t work at all? I hope somebody can help me either with getting away this annoying mouse cursor hourglass, or with a better implimication of this application so i can use it in realtime! • How to know about MySQL 'refused connections'

  Hello, I am using MONyog to montitor my two mysql servers. I get alert emails from MONyog when something goes wrong. There is an error I could not find out why. It says: Connection History: Percentage of refused connections) - 66.67% the percentage is not important, this is just about having refused connections. I get this email every half an hour. So this is like a constant situation. This must be my mistake, because I just set up those servers and there is no chance somebody else could be interfering the servers. MONyog advices me: Try to isolate users/applications that are using an incorrect password or trying to connect from unauthorized hosts. A client will be disallowed to connect if it takes more than connect_timeout seconds to connect. Set the value of log_warnings system variable to 2. This will force the MySQL server to log further information about the error. I added log_warnings=2 to my.cnf and I enabled logging like this: [mysqld_safe] . . log_warnings=2 log-error = /var/log/mysql/error.log . . . . [mysqld_safe] . log-error=/var/log/mysqld.log . . I cannot see any warnings at /var/log/mysql/error.log I can see some warnings at /var/log/mysqld.log but they are about something else. In sum, my question is how can I detect refused connections?   Hello, I am going out of my mind for the last 2 days with an IllegalArgumentException error i receive in android code when trying to get a coordinates out of an address, or even reverse, get address out of longitude and latitude. this is the code, but i cannot see an error. is a standard code snippet that is easily found on a google search. public GeoPoint determineLatLngFromAddress(Context appContext, String strAddress) { Geocoder geocoder = new Geocoder(appContext, Locale.getDefault()); GeoPoint g = null; try { System.out.println("str addres: " + strAddress); List<Address> addresses = geocoder.getFromLocationName(strAddress, 5); if (addresses.size() > 0) { g = new GeoPoint((int) (addresses.get(0).getLatitude() * 1E6), (int) (addresses.get(0).getLongitude() * 1E6)); } } catch (Exception e) { throw new IllegalArgumentException("locationName == null"); } return g; } These are the permissions from manifest.xml file: <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" /> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" /> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION" /> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_MOCK_LOCATION" /> I do have the Google Api key declared too: <uses-library android:name="com.google.android.maps" /> From the code snippet above, geo coder is not null, neither is the address or appContext, and i stumble here: geocoder.getFromLocationName(strAddress, 5); I did a lot of google searching and found nothing that worked, and the most important info i found is this: ""The Geocoder class requires a backend service that is not included in the core android framework." Sooo, i am confuzed now. What do I have to call, import, add, use in code.... to make this work? I am using Google Api2.2, Api level 8. • Table design issues - should I create separate fields or store as a blob

  Hi guys I'm working on my web based ordering system and we would like to maintain a kind of task history for each of our orders. A hsitory in the sense that we would like to maintain a log of who did what on an order like lets say an order has been entered - we would like to know if the order was acknowledged for an example. Or lets say somebody followed up on the order - etc. Consider that there are numerous situations like this for each order would it be wise to create a schema on the lines of: Orders ID - title - description - date - is_ack - is_follow - ack_by ..... That accounts to a lot of fields - on teh other hand I could have one LongText field called 'history' and fill it with a serialised object holding all the information. However in the latter case I can't run a query to lets say retrieve all orders that have not been acknowledged and stuff like that. With time requirements woudl change and I would be required to modify it to allow for more detailed tracking and that is why I need to set up a way which would be feasible to scale upon yet I don't want to be restricted on the SQL side too much.
