• Is there a way to force JUnit to fail on ANY unchecked exception, even if swallowed

  I am using JUnit to write some higher level tests for legacy code that does not have unit tests. Much of this code "swallows" a variety of unchecked exceptions like NullPointerExceptions (e.g., by just printing stack trace and returning null). Therefore the unit test can pass even through there is a cascade of disasters at various points in the lower level code. Is there any way to have a test fail on the first unchecked exception even if they are swallowed? The only alternative I can think of is to write a custom JUnit wrapper that redirects System.err and then analyzes the output for exceptions.

• Django naturaltime Localization error

  My language ID is 'id'. I used localized humanize library for my Django template tags and use the naturaltime, but the translation is partially wrong. The now translated to sekarang is right. second to detik. minute to menit, but when it comes to date, week, or months, the word is not translated to my language. It keeps printing date, week, and months. Here are my Django configuration TIME_ZONE = 'Asia/Jakarta' LANGUAGE_CODE = 'id' SITE_ID = 1 USE_I18N = True USE_L10N = True USE_TZ = True Here how I used the naturaltime template tags. <time class="discussion__info__item">{{ object.created|naturaltime }}</time> Do I forgot something? • How to create unique user key

  Scenario: I have a fairly generic table (Data), that has an identity column. The data in this table is grouped (lets say by city). The users need an identifier in order for printing on paper forms, etc. The users can only access their cites data, so if they use the identity column for this purpose they will see odd numbers (e.g. a 'New York' user might see 1,37,2028... as the listed keys. Idealy they would see 1,2,3... (or something similar) The problem of course is concurrency, this being a web application you can't just have something like: UserId = Select Count(*)+1 from Data Where City='New York' Has anyone come up with any cunning ways around this problem?

• Is there an automatic way to remove debugging methods for a release build?

  Note: This is an extension of an earlier question I asked here: Do additional function/method definitions increase a program's memory footprint? When I write a class, I usually end up writing several testing/debugging methods, used to make sure the class works as it should, or for printing data to help with debugging, or for unit testing, etc. Is there an easy/automatic way to make a release without these methods, or do I need to manually delete the extra code any time I want to compile a release version? I ask this question both from a C++ and a Java perspective. I'm using Code::Blocks and Eclipse as IDEs, if that plays into the answer somehow.

• Clearcase and java process : changing view does not apply

  i have a simple application, which receives input from a user for a CC stream name, and is suppose to return the content of a specific file from this stream repository. I have tried doing this using a simple shell script: user enters stream name, java receives stream name, runs a process which runs a script "myccscript.sh" which contains "myinput=$1; cleartool setview $myinput" (or something like that). then i try reading the file and printing it's content in the java side. BUT, after the process is finished - the view is not the view from the user input - that environment was probably only valid for the process Ive created. how do i change the clearcase view to the main java process?   Hello... I made a reporting engine with javascript for my project... The problem is with printing.. Although with page-break and css i can produce a good looking report, i want to export that report to a pdf in order to be printed better without ,the url,page title and other stuff that browsers add. Note in Chrome there isnt page setup!!! I am using java for server side. i think sending via ajax the Html of the report somehow and return a url for the pdf report maybe... i am looking for a good tool for this thank you

• Pretty-print HTML via PHP without validation?

  I'd like to automatically pretty-print (indentation, mostly) the HTML output that my PHP scripts generate. I've been messing with Tidy, but have found that in its efforts to validate and clean my code, Tidy is changing way too much. I know Tidy's intentions are good but I'm really just looking for an HTML beautifier. Is there a simpler library out there that can run in PHP and just do the pretty-printing? Or, is there a way to configure Tidy to skip all the validation stuff and just beautify?

• How can I debug a Perl program that suddenly exits?

  I have Perl program based on IO::Async, and it sometimes just exits after a few hours/days without printing any error message whatsoever. There's nothing in dmesg or /var/log either. STDOUT/STDERR are both autoflush(1) so data shouldn't be lost in buffers. It doesn't actually exit from IO::Async::Loop->loop_forever - print I put there just to make sure of that never gets triggered. Now one way would be to keep peppering the program with more and more prints and hope one of them gives me some clue. Is there better way to get information what was going on in a program that made it exit/silently crash?

• typeid() returns extra characters in g++

  class foo { public: void say_type_name() { std::cout << typeid(this).name() << std::endl; } }; int main() { foo f;; f.say_type_name(); } Above code prints P3foo on my ubuntu machine with g++. I am not getting why it is printing P3foo instead of just foo. If I change the code like std::cout << typeid(*this).name() << std::endl; it prints 3foo. Any thoughts?

  I am using netbeans to develop an applet, i have a piece of code which looked like this: ipAddresss = DEFAULT_IP; System.out.println("portlet.services.hostname:" + ipAddresss); Now I changed it to something like this: ipAddresss = DEFAULT_IP; System.out.println("portlet.services.hostname using default IP Address:" + ipAddresss); But no matter what I do, it sill keep on printing: portlet.services.hostname:null I have tried deleting all .netbeans folder from documents and settings, tried creating new project, but now i am completely baffled by this issue... So, the problem is, no matter what I do, no change is getting reflected when I run the program. Can there be a java applet cache, netbeans cache, i am not sure why...

• UIImage for UIImageView is nil

  I'm having problem displaying UIImage in UIImageView. I looked all over stackoverflow for similar questions, but none of the fixes helped me. The image is indeed in my bundle File Inspector - Target Membership is checked for the image IBOutlet is connected (I have tried both using IBOutlet and doing it programmatically) Both png nor jpg works Here's the code for using Interface Builder - //@property and @synthesize set for IBOutlet UIImageView *imageView - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; NSAssert(self.imageView, @"self.imageView is nil. • Is there another way to integrate PDF viewing in a Flex application?

  I'm looking at ways to embed PDF viewing in a Flex application. Currently the only option I've seen is by using the flash.html.HTMLLoader class, which only works if you're using AIR. This isn't a big deal -- I'm willing to use AIR if I have to -- but based on my experimentation with viewing a PDF this way it appears that AIR simply integrates the embedded Adobe PDF browser Plug-in for viewing, which not only shows the PDF page(s), but provides all of the manipulation controls as well (zooming, printing, etc.) which I don't want to see. I'm looking for something that works somewhat along the lines of the JPedal library for Java -- an embedded component that simply renders the PDF alone. Has anyone found a way to do this with either AIR's built-in component or via some other method?

• Ruby: totalling amounts

  I have a Donation.rb model with an amount column that takes an integer. I want to sum all the individual donations together and show the total on the home page. In the home_controller, I'm doing @donations = Donation.all and then in the view I do <% sum = 0 %> <% @donations.each do |donation| %> <%= sum += donation.amount if donation.amount? %> <% end %> The problem is that this is printing the running sum each time a new donation is added to it. I just want the total sum at the end after they've all been added together.

• How do I log the raw HTTP headers with a PHP script?

  I'm using a cURL script to send POST data through a proxy to a script and I want to see what raw HTTP headers the cURL script is sending. List of things I've tried: echo curl_getinfo($ch, CURLINFO_HEADER_OUT) gives no output. file_get_contents('php://input') gets some HTTP headers but not all. print_r($_SERVER) also gets some HTTP headers but not all (I know this because there should be a X-Forwarded-For header and there isn't) Printing all superglobals ($_POST, $_GET, $_REQUEST, $_FILES etc) still doesn't show the raw HTTP headers. http_get_request_headers(), apache_request_headers(), $http_response_header, $HTTP_RAW_POST_DATA aren't outputting everything. Help?

  I am working with the TimeSerial sketch (an example in the Arduino Time library). Everything works fine, and I can get it to output the time continuously. I am trying to set a switch which will read in a serial.read(). For example, I send 1 through the serial monitor, my sketch reads the one and runs a function I've created called resetfunc() which all it does is end serial and go back up to setup. It then asks me to enter the T and time stamp but doesn't wait and just keeps printing time. Why is it still doing this? When I haven't sent it the T and timestamp through serial yet?

  I'm trying to implement an all-purpose function for printing 2D data. What I've come up with is: int mprintf(FILE* f, char* fmt, void** data, size_t cols, size_t rows) The challenge is determining how many bits to read at once from data, based on fmt. The format fmt is going to be the stdlib's-specific format for printf() and alike. Do you have any knowledge of already-existing features from stdlibc (GNU GCC C's) I could use to ease this up? I try avoiding having to do it all manually, because I know "I am stupid" (I don't want to introduce stupid bugs). Thus, reusing code would be the bug-freest way. Thanks Addendum I see there's a /usr/include/printf.h. Can't I use any of those functions to do it right and ease my job at the same time?

  I am working on a django / python website I have a page where I want to display a table of search results The list of results is passed in to the template as normal I also want to make this list of objects accessible to the javascript code My first solution was just create another view that returned json format. But each page load required calling the query twice. So then I tried only downloading the data using the json view and printing the table using javascript. but this is also not desirable as now the presentation layer is mixed into the javascript code. is there a way to create a javascript object from the python list as the page is rendered?

  I'm studying software engineering, and came across this exercise: it asks to write a recursive function in C language that receives a positive integer and an empty string, and "translates" the number into a string. Meaning that after calling the function, the string we sent would contain the number but as a string of its digits. I wrote this function, but when I tried printing the string, it did print the number I sent, but in reverse. This is the function: void strnum(int n, char *str) { if(n) { strnum(n/10, str+1); *str = n%10 + '0'; } } For example, I sent the number 123 on function call, and the output was 321 instead of 123. I also tried exchanging the two lines within the if statement, and it still does the same. I can't figure out what I did wrong. Can someone help please? NOTE: Use of while and for loop statements is not allowed for the exercise.
