  Thinking about SEO. It is better that they are dofollow trackback or nofollow trackback? When I write a post on my blog and automatically sends trackback to my site from http://bitacoras.com. The above link is dofollow. Is it advisable to give relevance to this link I also handing dofollow link? For example any domain. on the homepage has pagerank 3. This site has a pagerank 0 internal page that I send trackbacks. It is convenient to send dofollow link to that page to increase your pagerank. Increase my pagerank if I perform this operation ?works well ? Please appreciated.any reference in writing .

  Hey i am working upon a product as core developer which will be launched in USA market in few months if successful. Can this factor improve my chances for getting accepted into a PhD program at a top university (say top 20 in US)? Normally good universities like CMU, Standford, MIT, Cornell are more interested in student's profile like research work, undergraduate school, etc. I am now passed out from very good university it's ranked in top 20 of India only. Neither did I do research work till now. But being one of founding member of company and developing product for same, I want to know if this factor can help and to what extent.

• What's the best way of marketing to programmers?

  Disclaimer up front - I'm definitely not going to include any links in here - this question isn't part of my marketing! I've had a few projects recently where the end product is something that developers will use. In the past I've been on the receiving end of all sorts of marketing - as a developer I've gotten no end of junk - 1000s of pens, tee-shirts and mouse pads; enough CDs to keep my desk tea-free; some very useful USB keys with some logos I no longer recognise; a small forest's worth of leaflets; a bulging spam folder full of ignored emails, etc... So that's my question - What are good ways to market to developers? And as an aside - are developers the wrong people to target? - since we so often don't have a purchasing budget anyways!

• HTTPS To http redirect issue. How to overcome?

  Have already seen suggests on how to rewrite https to http. currently using this technique : RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} ^443$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.mysite.com/$1 [L,R=301] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http ://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L] Problem : I am currently on hostgator VPS and have found Google indexing my HTTPS pages. Weird for me as never bought an SSL. My site is a blog only. When spoke to Google forums, ( https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/webmasters/2Hz46t44nwk/7voZWudFtAQJ ), they say I should redirect https to http. Now when I have redirected this using the above method, I am still getting SSL warning in browsers. And found that Google is still indexing my new pages with https. I feel as I do not have an SSL, adding a redirect in https doesn't work. So if Google indexes my https page, then I should go and buy SSL, and tell there to redirect https to http. Why would I do that? Please help me, reduced the traffic by nearly 30% because of this. Have even told search engines to go to this file (disallows everything) if they are on https. • Gaming Community CMS, with forum integration [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Which Content Management System (CMS) should I use? I've had a simple website that I coded myself for a while now, the site is a gaming community. It's very forum and news driven. It was a HORRIBLE idea to take on coding this thing myself. Although we've used it for about a year now, we're just getting too big, and I need to streamline our work. I need writers to post news, etc. I've been doing it through code. ( A year ago I thought it would be a cool idea ) Anyway, I've been messing with just about every CMS out there, and I'm struggling to get something that I really like. The main issue I'm facing, is a good news system, and good forum integration. I'm sort of picky when it comes to looks, its a curse. Reading on here, I see a lot of people saying Drupal is the best for the 3 things I need, community interaction, and forums. I think the main issue that I ran into with drupal, was ease of use, and themes. I am not a web designer, and I need a good theme. For an idea of what I'm looking for, go check out http://www.clgaming.net, they have forums integrated, a nice news area on home page/news section, and nice user accounts. It looks very professional, and I doubt I'll get close to that with a free theme, but their functionality is exactly what I need. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

• Category to Page and blocking category url via robots.txt -Good for SEO?

  I am using a template which in the pages it allows me to add sidebars / more content under and above the content I want to pull from a category which is very helpful. If I create pages to display my categories content wont the page urls go in conflict with the category urls? By conflict I mean causing a duplicate content error? What I thought might help was to block from robots.txt the category urls of the blog ex. /category/books /category/music Would that be a good practice in order to avoid the duplicate content penalty? Any tips appreciated.

• Coding events. What they actually are about, and are they worth it?

  I'm a relatively new programmer, but am very much interested in it. I enrolled to this coding event (Yahoo! Hack India, to be precise), and got invited after the pre-coding contest. The event is like a contest where developers create an application in 24 hours, In group or individually. I've never been to such an event before, and certainly don't know anyone who did. • Disqus 2012 comments NOT being indexed by Google

  We run a high-traffic website at http://www.onedirection.net and we've been using Disqus throughout this year, initially to great effect. We accepted the upgrade to Disqus 2012 back in June, loving the increased user experience and the better community feel - albeit back to an Iframe again. However the fact we were specifically told that the comments are now being indexed by Google was great, and the dynamic nature of the iFrame suited our site (all our pages are cached, so by using Disqus the comments are updated straight away). However, it seems that the Disqus 2012 comments are not being indexed, and we've noticed an obvious fall in traffic over the last few months. Initially we didn't put this down to Disqus and focused on other issues (Google algorithm updates etc). But we're quickly coming down the reasoning that our pages now contain less indexable text, and we are getting less traffic because of this. We've tried emailing Disqus directly but they're very slow and don't seem keen to help. Any thoughts on this?

I feel like my resume is totally inappropriate for my current career goals. Listing laboratory skills and accomplishments is not the same as listing software development skills and accomplishments. Oddly enough, I can't seem to find any resources for writing a engineer's resume online that aren't older than 5 years. GitHub and StackExchange profiles seem like as important resume items as anything, yet I don't know how to list them on a resume, or whether they are appropriate at all. • PHP Fingerprinting CMS Versions by their meta tags [migrated]

  Hey guys I'm having some issues with the speed of my script. I'm a novice I know so getting past that - what suggestions would you have to speed up my script? I was originally just reading in the index.php and then searching the <head> of the page for an array of strings. Then I read about the get_meta_tags and went that way. • website creation - for non web programmers?

  I thought I would find decent questions and answers for this, but none really caught my eye... I am a C++ developer and I own a few domains. I'd like to start off with simple web sites for each with a minimum of time and fuss and minimum learning. I have too many projects going and don't have the time to learn how to build websites. One is for a company that currently has only a single product with custom development as well. I hacked together some really bad html with paypal links on it. It is just one simple product. I want to add uservoice to it and maybe some other stuff like FAQ, forums, etc. Right now I just link to a google group I created. Another is a startup in development phase, but we want to provide simple content like whitepapers and press releases and a section for investors. - mostly an "about us" type of thing. We will also be providing details about our product. Then there is a blog site - currently using godaddy's quickblogcast. Not a bad start but I suspect I want to move to something else. The question is - is there a framework that I can use that will make decent, if not outstanding, sites? Again, I have my hands full with three projects in addition to my day job and don't have time to learn web programming. I also don;t want to just pay a web person and then be out in the cold for upgrades, changes, etc. I have been burned before. I am happy with a web-based app or a desktop app that builds html or whatever and then I can ftp it up to the hosting servers. To summarize: - simple to get started - low time to get a web page going - ability to integrate with a few hand-done pages - pay pal integration - uservoice integration - ability to put under my svn would be nice too EDIT Thanks to the responders. I understand now why my original searches failed. I was not searching for "CMS". I'll go back and do that. I would expect that this is a many-times-duplicate... EDIT: I am considering using Wordpress and Drupal - one for each of the sites. I did one Drupal site quickly just so I could qualify for one of the Microsoft programs for discounted dev tools - anyway - it was a quick and dirty homepage and I am still on the learning curve. I look forward to playing with it. So far it has been ok. I am not sure about doing a taste-test between the two - might be a waste of time where I could just become that much better at Drupal faster than spending time on wordpress... Will keep updated. EDIT: Selecting the Drupal answer by slim for now. That is what I am going with. Don't have time to check them all out. Wordpress sounds like a good option too, but such limited time... Results: I have tried wordpress and drupal so far. Wordpress is great for blogging or for a site that you want to run ads from, but I disagree that it is ready for a corporate site, unless you want to spend lots of time making your own theme, etc. But if you spend that time, why not work with drupal? Drupal was a little intimidating at first - but after spending about 4 hours reading the overview and step-by-step guide online was a HUGE step. I got a simple site up and running easily after that. Trying to make a website just by going to the admin panel without reading anything is a waste of time. You really need to read the docs. Wordpress is really great for that. So now I've got two sites running with a lot of the functionality I wanted - and they look good. I guess either one will work - it is just a matter of getting comfortable witht he basics, using the right tools and trying things out.

• Blocking an IP range without using .htaccess

  I have a WordPress blog that I am hosting using NearlyFreeSpeech.net. Recently, Russians found it and have been comment spamming me. I don't want to have to trash 30+ Cyrillic comments/day, and I don't want to pay for that bandwidth either. I did a little research, and all the commentors are originating from RIPE delegated IP ranges. Because my blog can only interest people living in the American Southeast, I figured the quick and dirty solution would be to use .htaccess to deny connections coming from 62.0.0.0/8 and 80.0.0.0/8 - 91.0.0.0/8. I wrote a .htaccess file that did just this, but the Russians were still getting through! According to NearlyFreeSpeech.net's FAQ, they can't support IP blocking through .htaccess (dirt cheap hosting comes with a price). I can block comments by IP through Wordpress (I think), but I can't figure out a way to block IP ranges or wildcards. Does anybody know of any other way?
