• Do I need the text "_size" in the my.cnf file for mysql 5.1?

  This is a pretty simple question about setting parameters in the my.cnf file for mysql 5.1. This page gives me the parameters I can tune: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/server-parameters.html and so I think I would need to write key_buffer_size = 256M But when I open my current my.cnf, it has the line: key_buffer = 16M My question is, do I need "key_buffer_size" or "key_buffer" or does it not matter which I use? And, how would I know if something in the my.cnf is incorrect? Where's the daemon start log file? I am running ubuntu; I think version 8.04 LTS

• Computer/Application having trouble and getting slow while accessing Sql server through LAN, Network is fine

  Hi, I have an web project in asp.net in one of my computers which are connected internally through LAN. The database is in Sql Server kept in another computer. The LAN is connected well. There is no connection error in my programming also. But sometimes in this particular system the page is taking long time to be open, sometime it is showing some exceptions(not everytime again and again). What can be the problem? How can it be solved? The same project is running good in other computers as well. My network seems ok, as I can acccess the computer hosting SQL server.

• Is there a way to have a dynamic google map that opens links in _blank?

  I came up with a good solution for a client showing a google map iFrame using the normal google maps embed. Only problem? They want the links inside the iFrame to open in a new window instead of there on the page. So, I used the static API to come up with a static image of a map and have that link to the google maps site with target="_blank". Great, but they don't get the pretty draggable map. Is there a way to do what I want using the google maps API? I'm reading the API documentation but without actually trying it I'm not sure if it can be done, and would love it if someone with some experience with the API can point me in the right direction or just tell me why it's WAY not worth the effort.

  On websites where you have to enter a user name and password, I notice that I can browse the site with one browser and it will know who I am no matter where I go on the site. But if I open a different browser it doesn't know who I am in that browser unless I log on in that browser. After I log in to a website, does it store some kind of cookie in my browser, and every time I navigate to a different page on that site, it checks the cookie for my identity? What would happen if I logged in, and then before browsing to a different page on the site, deleted the cookie?

• Not able to include ntifs.h in win32 project

  I tried to use the function called NTCreateFile. When I compiled it gave me an error saying "_NTCreateFile identifier not found". I inlcuded the header winternl.h. So next I tried to use ZwCreatFile, as per MSDN I included ntifs.h, but I am not able to include that header. It says "not able to open/find the directory". I am using V@2008. What is the problem? Am I missing anything?

  I've recently started a new job working with webdevelopment in .NET. Coming from a php and rails background i've been working mainly in Eclipse and NetBeans, along with some TextMate. I find myself missing a few great keyboard shortcuts and i can't seem to find a Visual Studio equivalent. NetBeans has the awesome "Go To File" and so does Eclipse with this plugin. Eclipse also has the option of quick searching in the open file list with Cmd/Ctrl-E. Is there something like this in Visual Studio? Either build in or via plugin. Or is there some other way of quickly navigating between files that's prefered?

• How can I compare two jpeg encoding and other inormations

  We have created a Driver programe which connect to a remote host using FTP and mount the remote host as a network drive. So when I try to copy some data it copies using FTP retrieve request and then paste it to the destination. The copy paste works fine as we can see the source file size and destination size are same. But while we try to open the .jpg file that is being copied , says no preview. I suspect there must be some bytes that is being corrupted while we try to copy and paste. Is there any tools so that I can compare both source and destination to get the differences.

Now, before the votes to close it's not as open-ended as you might think. I'm not asking purely what is the worst feature or what feature would you really like to remove purely arbitrarily. Yes, there may not be one correct answer but I suspect there will be many similar answers which will provide me with a good idea of things I might be doing wrong, even inadvertently.

But how can i make the DatabaseHelper.java run just to create the database but still be at the Main.java file. The database should be created with the tables only when the db or the tables dont exist. • Fail to resolve a name when calling ConnMgrEstablishConnectionSync()

  Hi Guys, I'm trying to setup a GPRS connection with ConnMgrEstablishConnectionSync(), so far so good, the connection is established and if I try to connect to an IP address, everything works fine. Alas, when I try to resolve a name: ConnMgrEstablishConnectionSync(); ... gethostbyname("www.google.com"); The result is always an error: 0x00002af9 (host not found). Therefor I'm not able to resolve any name, but if I try to open a browser, the browser is able to resolve everything. Am I doing something wrong? Thanx for your help.

• Best of both worlds: arrow keys for cursor movement or flipping through buffers.

  I really like this vim trick to use the left and right arrows to flip between buffers: "left/right arrows to switch buffers in normal mode map <right> :bn<cr> map <left> :bp<cr> (Put that in ~/.vimrc) But sometimes I'm munching on a sandwich or something when scrolling around a file and I really want the arrow keys to work normally. I think what would make most sense is for the arrow keys to have the above buffer-flipping functionality only if there are actually multiple buffers open. Is there a way to extend the above to accomplish that?

  Can anyone recomend me a simple web UI prototyping tool, so I could quicky prototype the look of a my web site. I have tried to use MS Visio for this, but found it very "user un-friendly". What I really need is to be able quicky sketch the layout of the page, put some links, images and buttons on in, play a little bit with a colors (CSS), and it would be great it this tool could support navigation between the pages - but it is not essential. I would rather consider a low-cost or an open-source solution, since I am not a web designer and not going to use that tool on a daily basis.

I'm getting a "The network path can't be found" issue when instantiating my model container with a connection string for LocalDB. • Ruby: Streaming large AWS S3 object freezes

  Hi, I am using the ruby aws/s3 library to retrieve files from Amazon S3. I stream an object and write it to file as per the documentation (with debug every 100 chunks to confirm progress) This works for small files, but randomly freezes downloading large (150MB) files on VPS Ubuntu. Fetching the same files (150MB) from my mac on a much slower connection works just fine. When it hangs there is no error thrown and the last line of debug output is the 'Finished chunk'. I've seen it write between 100 and 10,000 chunks before freezing. Anyone come across this or have ideas on what the cause might be?   I am trying to create a method in which I can exequte mysql UPDATE, DELETE or INSERT query. The method must work when with an INSERT I ask or do not ask the last_insert_id().   I've recently added to my .bashrc file an ssh-add command. I found that ssh-add $HOME/.ssh/id_rsa_github > /dev/null results on a message "identity added and something else" every time I open a shell. While ssh-add $HOME/.ssh/id_rsa_github > /dev/null 2>&1 did the trick and my shell is now 'clean'. Reading on internet, I found that other command do it, (for example time). Could you please explain why it's done?
