    I have some philosophical feeling that adding to an entity fields which doesn't mapped to the DB is a wrong way of solving problems. But are there any concrete situations where using @Transient fields leads to implicit and hard fixing problems? For example, is it possible that adding/removing 2nd level cache will break our app when there are @Transient fields in our entities?

What are your experiences? Do you use some form of AOP? Like Springs @Configurable annotation? Load time or build time weawing? Problems you encountered? Do you use manual injection? Then how do you handle different instantiation scenarios (creating of the objects through an library [like Hibernate], creating objects with "new" ...)? Or do you use some other way of injecting the dependencies?

    I'm trying to redo an existing panel that I made before GWT 2.0 was released. The panel has a few text fields and a scrollable panel below in a VerticalPanel.     Currently, if I change the locale setting of my application by Locale.setDefault(Locale.ENGLISH); Locale.setDefault(Locale.SIMPLIFIED_CHINESE); What I understand from this JFreeChart forum is that, I am not using correct font. Once you get the reference of the LegentTitle, you can set it to any font. Apparently, JFreeChart's default is "Tahoma" and it doesn't support Chinese characters. May I know, how I can programmatic determine, as list of available Fonts in my system, which support Chinese? I can hard code it to Serif (It fully support Chinese, doesn't it?), its look n feel doesn't looks good to me. I would like to have more choices.

    I need to knowingly isolate each row of the vCard and get its value. For instance, I want to get "5555" from X-CUSTOMFIELD. So far, my thoughts are: "X-CUSTOMFIELD;\d+" I have been looking at some tutorials and I am a little confused with what function to use? What would my regex above return? Would it give me the whole line or just the numerical part (5555)? I was thinking I i get the whole row, I can use substring to get the digits?     Without accessing private API's to get Content URI's, etc. for SMS, how are we expected to query this data? I am currently in the process of writing my own SMS app and I want to stay as compatible as possible. Without storing the information myself in my own database (such that I can store the text messages so that other programs can access the data when/if they delete my app) and without using private API's how the heck are we suppose to query SMS data?

    In the similar question "Conversion of byte[] into a String and then back to a byte[]" is said to not to do the byte[] to String and back conversion, what looks like apply to most cases, mainly when you don't know the encoding used. But, in my case I'm trying to save to a DB the javax.crypto.SecretKey data, and recoverd it after. The interface provide a method getEncoded() which returns the key data encoded as byte[], and with another class I can use this byte[] to recover the key. So, the question is, how do I write the key bytes as String, and later get back the byte[] to regenerate the key?

    I have a table DEAL and a table DEAL_TYPE. I would like to map this code: public class Deal { DealType type; } public enum DealType { BASE("Base"), EXTRA("Extra"); } The problem is that the data already exist in the database. And I'm having a hard time mapping the classes to the database. The database looks something like that: TABLE DEAL { Long id; Long typeId; } TABLE DEAL_TYPE { Long id; String text; } I know I could use a simple @OneToMany relationship from deal to deal type, but I would prefer to use an enum. Is this possible? I almost got it working by using a EnumType.ORDINAL type. But unfortunately, my IDs in my deal type table are not sequential, and do not start at 1. Any suggestions?

  • Convert integer to equivalent number of blank spaces.

    I was wondering what the easiest way is to convert an integer to the equivalent number of blank spaces. I need it for the spaces between nodes when printing a binary search tree. I tried this `int position = printNode.getPosition(); String formatter = "%1"+position+"s%2$s\n"; System.out.format(formatter, "", node.element);` But I am getting almost 3 times as many spaces compared to the int value of position. I'm not really sure if I am formatting the string right either. Any suggestions would be great! If it makes it clearer, say position = 6; I want 6 blank spaces printed before my node element.
