• Concurrency checking with Last Change Time

  I have a following three tables Email (emailNumber, Address) Recipients (reportNumber, emailNumber, lastChangeTime) Report (reportNumber, reportName) I have a C# application that uses inline queries for data selection. I have a select query that selects all reports and their Recipients. Recipients are selected as comma separacted string. During updating, I need to check concurrency. Currently I am using MAX(lastChangeTime) for each reportNumber. This is selected as maxTime. Before update, it checks that the lastChangeTime <= maxTime. --//It works fine One of my co-developers asked why not use GETDATE() as “maxTime” rather than using a MAX operation. That is also working. Here what we are checking is the records are not updated after the record selection time. Is there any pitfalls in using GETDATE() for this purpose?

• System network service uncompatable after harddrive change and format

  After changing out the hard drive in my dell optiplex 750, and reinstalling ubuntu, my computer tells me the system network services are not compatable. Because my cd drive does not work, I installed this by placing the hard drive in another computer an dusign the mini.iso to install it. I need networking capabilities becuase I want to use this computer as a web server. The on-board ethernet card is a intel 82566 something. If you need more information, and can tell me how to get it, just ask. Please help.

• Lost network interface after mac change

  I'm using Ubuntu server 12.04 inside Virtualbox and everything was working as expected, but since I changed the mac address in Virtualbox network settings the network interface is not being recognized on Ubuntu. I don't remember the old mac address and everytime Ubuntu starts shows waiting for network configuration when I use ifconfig only appears lo (loopback device) and eth0 is lost, how can I fix this problem?

After that I pursued my masters where most of my course choices involved working on web, java and databases. Now I have an offer to work with a company that is offering a job to work on the OS level. The company is pretty good but I am feeling that my Masters has gone to waste. I wanted to know is it common that a Computer Science major works on low-level coding and is there a possibility that I can work in this company for some years and then move onto an opportunity where I can work on high-level coding? • Add single sign-on into existing web app

  Apologies if this isn't the best site, I've search for an answer but can't find anything quite right. I don't actually now the correct terminology I should be using here, so any pointers will be appreciated. I have a web application that accessed by many different users across different organisations. Access is provided by each user having a unique username/password which is stored in SQL (database fields are customerID, userID, username). Some organisations are now asking if we can change this to allow "Active Directory single sign-on" so that users don't need to remember yet another set of login details. From research I can see how this is achieved using OpenAuth and Google (etc), but I know hardly anything about AD and can't find much information on this (again I'm sure it helps when you know the terminology). Is this request even possible to achieve, given that most users will be from different (and unrelated) organisations? I saw on a Microsoft Build video not long ago that there is some kind of replication service for AD to allow Cloud authentication. Is this what I should be aiming for?

• Visual Studio Linked Files Directory Structure

  I have two versions of a project. One for Silverlight and one for .NET. The SL project has the vast majority of the code base in it. I want to globally add all files from the SL project into the .NET version as linked files. I've managed to do so successfully like this in the csproj file for the .NET version: <Compile Include="..\MyProj.Common.SL\**\*.cs" Exclude="..\MyProj.Common\Properties\**"> Unfortunately, this adds all the files right to the root of my project... so I end up with a long unreadable list of linked files in the .NET project. I really really really don't want to have to maintain an entire duplicate directory structure by hand and deal with directory name changes and file name changes and whatnot. So, is there any way to have Visual Studio preserve the directory structure when adding linked files in the wildcard manner above? Or is there at least a way of making it group all the linked files together under a directory in the .NET project like MyProj.Common.SL.Links? The very closest I've come is to set the <Visible>false</Visible> under the <Compile> tag, which effectively removes the long unreadable list of 300+ files....but unfortunately this screws up Resharper, which no longer sees those files as valid and it goes crazy on all the projects that reference the .NET project. If I could figure out a way of making Resharper not get all messed up, that would be an acceptable solution too... Any suggestions? Thanks.

  About me: I am very entrepreneurial and believe I would do well working solo as a consultant and possibly hiring help. I do want to do that at some point. I love to learn and a good challenge. Please help me make this decision! Current job (I am there for about 4 years): Pros: secure job good pay (I guess I am 80 percentile for my level/geographical area) large corporation - main business is not software excellent health insurance for low cost to me, pension, 401k matching, 6 weeks paid time off per year small dev team use of latest technologies (mostly WPF/silverlight) low supervision (I can do personal things all the time) I get to do a lot of moonlighting and my goal was to go solo full-time in a year or so. Cons: small team of non-professional devs 50% of my time I do things I don't enjoy projects are not meaningful to the organization If I left it wouldn't be too hard for them - business would resume as usual. Nobody besides my small team of 3 has any idea about software development whatsoever. Prospect job: Pros: small/agile software company same salary as current job same size dev team but all are very sharp (I would probably be the weakest of the team in the beginning) technology used is outside my comfort zone (latest cool web technolgies such as html5/jquery/...) - I am not a web dev and they know that. ton of learning opportunity Start-up - possibility of stock option/partial ownership of some sort Cons: Small office space - not able to do personal things as often (may be pro) No room for moonlighting less benefits (but salary can compensate for that)

• window decoration command change

  I'm quite new to Ubuntu, and I don't know how to fix this: I have been experiencing the problem with window decorations that go away. I have been told that I could correct that with compiz fusion icon, just restarting the graphics whenever it happened. This solution only fixed the problem for like 30 seconds. Then I found out that the command inside the window decorator had changed, so I only had to reset it to default (/usr/bin/compiz-decorator). The only problem is that it keeps changing the command by itself once or twice a day. I can live with that, but I would like to find a more permanent solution, if there is one. I am running Ubuntu 11.10

  I have a collision detection and its working fine, the problem is, that whenever my "bird" is hitting a "cloud", the cloud dissapers and i get some points. The same happens for the "sol" which it should, but not with the clouds. How can this be changed ? ive tryed a lot, but can seem to figger it out.   At first, my mother tongue is not English, so I apologize for the possible mistakes. I'm working on a WS2008R2 server with an Active Directory and a web platform manages this AD with C# code. A group of users have to be able to create user accounts but during the procedure, a disk quota for this new account is (and have to be) created. As the "creator" must not be a member of the Administrators group, the access to the c/: disk is denied. So, I want to perform the File Server Resource Manager operations with C# code by an non-admin account. The code is correct, it works normally with admin account. So, the problem turns around the permissions on the hard drive. I've looked after help on the Internet, without success. It seems that quota delegation is impossible. Only admin can perform this. A colleague helped me a bit, and found the GPO "By pass traverse checking" on a forum but it doesn't seems to be the good way. Any help would be appreciate.

• How do I change pages registering as 404 to 200

  I have this problem. After relaunching my site: http://www.kgstiles.com, traffic dropped immensely(about 60%). After troubleshooting for a week and a half - losing thousands of dollars off of lost traffic in the process, I found that Google was getting a 404 error at the end of many of my 301 redirects(so it wouldn't index the new pages). Most of of the pages, though, would register in my browser. They registered as a 404 error in Google's index as well as a 404checker. So my first question is: could this be what's causing my loss of traffic? and second: how do I fix it? I'm desperate!   I'm using Unity 3D Let's say the player is an ice cube. You control it like a normal player. On press of a button, ice transforms (with animation) into water. You control it completely different than the ice cube. Another great example would be: Player is human being and has normal FPS controls. On press of a button human transforms into birds and now has completely different controls. Now, my question is, what would be easier and better: make one object with animation transition and to stay in that state of anim. until button is pressed again make two object: ice and water. Ice has an animation of turning into water. So replace ice (with animation) with water object And if anyone knows this one too: how to switch between 2 different types of player controls.

• Delegating account unlock rights in AD

  I'm trying to delegate the rights to unlock user accounts in our Active Directory domain. This should be easy, and I've done it before... but every time the user tries to unlock an account (using the LockoutStatus tool), he gets denied with the error "You do not have the necessary permissions to unlock this account." Here's what I've done: I created a domain local group and added the members who should have the rights. This was created over a week ago, so the users have logged out and in again. In ADUC, I've used the Delegate Rights wizard on the OU which contains our user accounts to grant permissions to Read lockoutTime and Writer lockoutTime to the group, per MSKB 279723 I have double-checked the permissions were applied correctly in ADSIEdit. I have forced replication between all domain controllers to ensure the permission changes were copied over. The user testing it has logged out and in again to ensure he has any changes applied to his account. ...That covers all the bases I can think of. Anything else I could be missing?

• ActiveDirectory user files aren't being shared? [on hold]

  I'm taking a class in college and my current project is to setup Active Directory. So I have two VMs, one is Windows Server 2008 R2 and the other is Windows 7. I setup the domain team15.net (this is the FQDN for the forest) on the W2008 server machine. And then I connected the Windows 7 machine to the team15.net domain, and now I can login to the administrator account on the W2008 machine by using TEAM15\Administrator for the username. However, any files that I add in Windows 7 while logged into TEAM15\Administrator are NOT shown in the Windows 2008 machine. Is this normal? It seems like any files I add to this user in the domain only exists for the machine that I'm currently using. Is it possible to change this so all files for all users are synced to all computers in the domain? If not then what are alternatives? I noticed that back in high school we also used domains but there was a shared drive E:\ that you had to store your files because if you put them on in the desktop instead then they would suddenly disappear once you logged out and back in. How can I setup a shared drive? and which computer would provide the storage for this drive?

After camera reposition, everything works perfect but how to set camera its proper position. For example my loading text move from bottom to top or vice versa based on camera movement. • Why does running "$ sudo chmod -R 664 . " cause me to get access denied on all affected directories?

  I have a project folder which has messy permissions on all files. I've had the bad tendency of setting everything to octal permissions 777 because it solved all non security related issues. Then FTP uploads, files created by text editors etc. has their own set of permissions making everything a mess. I've decided to take myself together and start using the permissions the way they were meant to be used. I figured 664 was a good default for all my files and folders, and I'd just remove permissions for others on private files, and add +x for executable files. The second I changed my project folder to 664 however: $ sudo chmod -R 664 . $ ls ls: cannot open directory .: Permission denied Which makes no sense to me. I have read/write permissions, and I'm the owner of the project folder. • Group Policy for DNS Server Addresses

This is not asking about if this is the right function, role, or best use of group policy; but rather, how to make it work. I would like to be able to publish in group policy DNS addresses and possibly control the order in which the client consumes the addresses. I have tried following the information from this site without success. I set the following setting within group policy, but the client never shows the settings within the TCP/IP properties. Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Network/DNS Client/DNS Servers I did list them as a single space separated list. For example, the following: 192.168.0.1 192.168.10.3 192.168.34.2 192.168.2.67 192.168.56.99 192.168.99.23 This would be for Windows 7, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Server 2008 clients. I am not sure what I am doing wrong or how to get this to work. Am I missing a setting? Do I need to set something differently?

  I have a small problem as I'm a server manager beginner, I installed a Domain Controller on my Windows Server 2008, and I created three OUs, now I'm trying to add users to each OU via csvde command, but I get as a result of the operation, without mentioning any errors: > C:\csvde>csvde -i -f List.csv > Connecting to "(null)" > Logging in as current user using SSPI Importing directory from file > "List.csv" Loading entries. > 0 entries modified successfully. Below is the csv file I'm using to add 2 users to "Offshoring1" OU, the domain name is "iado.lan". It would be best if it either is a built-in solution (like a JScript or VBscript snippet), or something that does not require installation.
